This week the ScoutCast crew are determined to bust the myth that they share identical strategies.

Long-term maverick Luke returns to reveal his freshly Wildcarded team which bravely went into Gameweek 2 without Manchester City’s hat-trick hero Sergio Aguero and last season’s points-scoring sensation Mohamed Salah.

In stark contrast, Az is continuing his march up the rankings thanks to his faith in this premium pair, and his resolve in resisting broadsheet tittle-tattle hinting that the Argentinian would be dropped.

David is also beating a different drum and keen to explain the reasons behind his chequered FPL history and how his fortunes already look better this time around.

That leaves me as the only dullard representative, armed with a bunch of ownership statistics, a goals imminent table and a dubious ‘camping’ excuse to explain my recent poor captaincy decision.

Our differing views across a range of key issues facing Fantasy Premier League manages ahead of Gameweek 3 are aired.

Our assessment of Chelsea and Arsenal assets ahead of their favourable fixtures is top of our list. And we also ponder whether Spurs’ players can compete as assets this season and indulge in some bargain hunting up front.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you had to pick one for this week and beyond, would rather have Mkhi or Alonso?

Already did Jota out for Richarlison and took a -4 for to get rid of Moura for Miki.. And now Shaw is flagged. What to do now ?
    Defends : VVD - Mandy - Shaw - Peltier (doesn't play) - Wan-Bissaka (suspended)

    a) hope he plays
    b) remove for D.luis / Bellerin (-8)

Everyone on here has Alonso except me.... I just can't get behind picking 3 premium defenders but feel like with so many going for it that I have to be wrong in that opinion.

      But are they defenders???

    2. The Finnisher

Extra points for a goal, CS points and look as likely (if not more likely) for assists as any mid below 9.5M

      1. F_Ivanovic
        • 10 Years
        8 years, 4 days ago

Seems I constantly have to explain this but it's not quite as simple as comparing how they might do against a 9.5m midfielder.... defenders always have a higher VPM on avg. Sakho for instance had a better VPM than Aguero but you would still rather have Aguero because he's significantly better than other options in attack.

more premium forwards + mids but less good mid/budget options in that area would mean you try and get as many as possible and ignore defence even with how good they are bc you can still always find good value cheaper options that can rotate decently.

Get the best priced players on the game. If they happen to be defenders, so be it. Change formation accordingly

    4. Like an Egyptian Magician

The advent of the winger-defender has made defenders’ ppg per million vastly superior to both mids & fwds. That superiority has been FPL reality for the previous 100gws so I’d even argue the best theoretical formation is 5-4-1 or 4-5-1

    Foster vs Palace (H)

    Both with 4.0 keepers

Like the idea of Ederson playing every week, but with Hennessey's fixtures he could go well over the next 10.

    On a WC, currently have

    XXX Hamer
    Mendy Alonso AWB 4.0 XXX
    Salah Mane Richarlison XXX XXX
    Aguero Ings XXX

    Fill in the blanks:

    A) Hennessey, TAA, DSilva, Kante (as 1st sub), Zaha (means no Arsenal attack)
    B) Hennessey, TAA, DSilva, Mkhitaryan, 5.0 fwd (possibly more prone to rotation with Silva and Mhki)
    C) Ederson, Robertson, Mkhitaryan, 4.5 mid, Zaha (only has Aguero as City attacker)

Leaning towards C but very tempted by DSilva as I think he's going to be City's main creative force in KDB's absence.

by 4? If Bilva has any goal involvement you're at a loss. Do it for free next week if Mkhi looks good and Bilva doesnt.

Bilva has limited chance to create or score compared to mikhi. Given Arsenal’s must win game and West Ham’s poor defense I think Mikhi will outscore bilva

        2. 420king

Silva had attacking returns in every game this year expect for the last one where he had to play RWB due to Walker's absence.

I sold Silva for Mkhi (-4), but wouldn't have done it if it didn't give me funds for a huge upgrade.

    2. Chromehound
      • 9 Years
      8 years, 4 days ago

I would. I didn't like how KDB's injury changed Bilva's role in the team to play more deep. Sure, he almost scored against Huddersfield, but I feel like Mkhi will be more involved also gives you Arsenal coverage.

      1. IRBOX ⚽
        • 9 Years

He didnt play deep.Heat maps had him the 2nd highest on the pitch behind only Aguero. He was higher than Mendy and jesus!

    3. JohnnyMagrinho

I can see Mhki outscoring Silva massively not only this week but over the next 6-8.

It's one of the template moves along with bringing in Alonso and downgrading an attacker for Ings.

    4. JonSnow
      • 9 Years

longterm yes, too many options at city with sterling needing game time, dilva looking sharp as ever, sane scoring and Mahrez wanting to earn his place. So if you want to bank the .1 go for it

if bellerin gets a clean sheet and shaw's sub doesnt, you basically got a free transfer. thats realistically a best case scenario

Not saying it’s a bad move, but why do you have to take Arnie out? He can easily get returns in the next 3 at least.

      1. Gianfranco Zola
        • 11 Years
        8 years, 4 days ago

It's more about wanting Mkhi and I can't see a better route other than perhaps a straight swap with Bilva.

Also the Wolves defense looks good (stats wise) so I'm really not impressed by Arnie's fixtures going forward. Was unsure about him even for GW1 tbh

        1. Licious Lizard
          • 13 Years
          8 years, 4 days ago

Honestly, I would keep both, but that’s just me.

Agree that Wolves looks decent defensively stats wise, but people also seem to be forgetting that they played against 10 men for almost one full match. And City is another level.

hi Zola. Keep Arnie, arsenal defence is awful. His fixtures is not bad at all (ars, WLV, eve)

    3. JohnnyMagrinho
      8 years, 4 days ago

Dunno why you've got Arnie in the first place then. It's not like his fixtures were kept hidden from you at the start of the season.

He's on penalties and he's shown time and time again if he's in the mood he'll score - regardless of opposition.

Besides, I don't buy into all this "they have tough fixtures" nonsense. Arsenal are so bad at the back I'd fancy Huddersfield to score at least a couple.

Wouldn't surprise me if Arnie got a couple to be honest.

Not saying he won’t be rotated, but I’m feeling 7% more comfortable about his role in the team now.

Pep really seems to rate him highly and seems liked by the team.

Lol, I know it’s not relevant at all, but every little piece of info counts, right 😉

I was afraid he will be rotated because Delph played well on that position last season and operated as another midfielder, but when I saw him play and how involved he is in the game I think he is 100% nailed. He gets along very well with teammates as we could see after half time with Kun. Yes he will be fire this season, I was wrong doubting in it.

Yeah, I think he’s as nailed as any outfield player in that team tbh.

Haha yep, he would be the first player I would pick if I had to start over.

But it’s pep, who knows what will happen

      Need Mendy asap.

With uncertainty in their midfield I believe there's a spot for him, at least right now.

Think I will need to take a -4 to get a team out?

    Ederson
    Robertson Mendy Christie* (FUL)
    Salah Neves Mane Richarlason
    Auba Aguero Ings

    Hamer Schnerlin Wan-B Pelitier 0FT 0 ITB

    Plan is
A- Christie to Cedric (will wait as he might drop to 4.4)
    B- Something else
    C- Hold
Longer plan is hope that Kante does not rise and get for Neves next week

    Thanks for any input.

Shaw as my third defender with Peltier and AWB on the bench.

1.0 ITB and no FTs. Worth taking a hit to move Shaw on? Or sweat it out (and/or take the donut)?

    how about this wc team

ederson and downgrade jorginho and you got my wc team.

Ive settled on it because its very flexible as looking ahead to next week you have good options and a structure thats not too rigid. You want to be able to jump arsenal/Chelsea if need be as im not a fan of the Liverpool double up past brighton, but kind of need to do it as lacking information at this stage

      e.g. if you need auba: Mane+wilson -->Auba+Kante
      if you love arsenal: Salah+wilson-->Ozil+Auba
if you think pedro is nailed and laca scores well against whm: Mane+wilson --> Pedro+laca (hoping this happens)
if you think hazard is essential but love salah and leno starts: Mane+Ederson-->Hazard+Leno

Already made 3 changes and now on -8

    A) Hit the WC to wipe out the hits and make 4 more changes to fix GK and cheap DF / MF
    B) Go with -8

Tempted by WC to zero the hits I already made, but the additional changes look not so important.

Depends on your team. I took a -8 hit as well but wouldn't change a thing except one 4.0 defender for another.

I think the team look ok with 3 premium DF in demand.
Double Mane + Salah plus Mkhi and Rich in the mid.
        Kun Zaha Ings upfront.

Switching from 4.5/4.5 GK to 5.5/4.0 or 4.5/4.0 GK and fix 4.5 MF and fix 4.0 DF look minor.

I would say just take the -8 on the chin. A WC is worth more than 8 points and some minor bench changes. Plus you should have hit it from the beginning then and made some cash 😉

        • 15 Years

I think so. If I decided it earlier, I would be able to get Pedro in the mid too.
