Thursday and Friday’s manager press conferences offered up the usual mix of non-committal, straight-bat answers and enlightening soundbites that could influence our thinking ahead of the Gameweek 3 deadline on Saturday morning.

The headline news perhaps came at Chelsea, with Maurizio Sarri’s comments about Eden Hazard sure to increase interest in the Belgian midfielder a week before the Blues embark on a double-header of home fixtures against Bournemouth and Cardiff City.

Sarri stated that Hazard and recent signing Mateo Kovacic were ready to start and play “50 or 60 minutes” at Newcastle United on Sunday, though doubted that the Belgian international could last the full 90 minutes.

The quotes about Hazard would potentially spell bad news for owners of Willian, who would appear most at risk from Hazard’s re-introduction given Pedro‘s early-season purple patch.

Ross Barkley, meanwhile, could be the makeweight for Kovacic’s path into the first team, which could still be a week or two away despite his head coach’s comments.

Jose Mourinho revealed that Nemanja Matic, Alexis Sanchez and Antonio Valencia are back in training with the first-team squad after injury, although with United not playing until Monday evening Mourinho has two more days of training with which to make a decision on his returning trio’s involvement against Spurs. Diogo Dalot might not be too far away from coming into contention either, though Monday’s game will come too soon for the Portuguese full-back.

Luke Shaw (foot injury) is a minor doubt for the visit of Mauricio Pochettino’s side, though wasn’t mentioned by name in Mourinho’s typically terse press conference.

While all was quiet on the injury front at Arsenal (other than updates on their long-term absentees), Unai Emery did have something to say on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

The Spanish coach’s words, however, have perhaps been distorted online, with his aversion to playing two up front not necessarily meaning Aubameyang and Lacazette won’t take to the field together at the Emirates on Saturday: Aubameyang, of course, has regularly switched to the left flank to accommodate Lacazette centrally.

Whether Emery would be willing to drop left-winger Alex Iwobi after his promising performance against Chelsea, however, remains to be seen.

Little of note came from Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino’s press conferences, a source of frustration for those FPL managers seeking clues as to the possible formation and personnel employed by Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Dejan Lovren‘s ongoing pelvic injury was the only real stand-out story from Jurgen Klopp’s press conference, with the Croatian centre-back joining Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the treatment room.

Elsewhere, Chris Hughton refused to rule out Lewis Dunk for the Seagulls’ trip to Anfield, but the Brighton centre-back seems very likely to sit out this weekend after injuring his ankle in the win over Manchester United.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka will miss Crystal Palace’s trip to Vicarage Road this weekend through suspension, while Roy Hodgson revealed that recent signing Max Meyer is “ready to start” – a situation that could put Jeffrey Schlupp or James McArthur at risk.

Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes are still not ready to feature for Everton this weekend, but Bernard could come into contention and Kurt Zouma will press Mason Holgate for a start at centre-back.

Denis Odoi returns from suspension to offer Slavisa Jokanovic another option at centre-half, with the Fulham boss still without the services of Tim Ream and the almost-fit Alfie Mawson.

DeAndre Yedlin looks set to solve Rafael Benitez’s troubles at right-back after making a swift return from a knee injury.

Jannik Vestergaard has returned from illness to boost Mark Hughes’ preparations for the visit of Leicester, though winger Mohamed Elyounoussi is still a doubt with a hamstring problem. For the visitors, Shinji Okazaki may feature after building up his match fitness.

Mark Noble‘s back problem could keep him out of West Ham’s trip to the Emirates, which adds to the quandary Manuel Pellegrini faces over whether to switch back to a 4-3-3 from last weekend’s 4-4-2 experiment.

Eddie Howe and Nuno Espirito Santo teased the prospect of Jefferson Lerma and Leander Dendoncker featuring for their sides respectively, while David Wagner was happy to report that Huddersfield Town now have a fully-fit squad after their injury problems of last weekend.

Aron Gunnarsson was ruled out by Neil Warnock, who floated the idea of using all of Kenneth Zohore, Gary Madine and Danny Ward up front over the next few matches – while confirming that he sees Bobby Reid‘s future in a more withdrawn role.

Burnley have had less than 72 hours to recover from their Europa League exploits, while Javi Gracia has confirmed that Nathaniel Chalobah and Gerard Deulofeu remain out for Watford – who could well be unchanged for the third match running.

We've spent a bit of time this week working behind the scenes on the code behind the RMT numbers.

There are 3 components to the RMT model: the team numbers, the playing probabilities and the player rates (their rates of scoring goals, assists, bonus points, yellow cards, red cards e.t.c.)

The team model I have updated this week in line with betting market opinions - for example Utd have taken a bit of a tumble this week after their below-par performance against Brighton. The playing probabilities were updated this morning and will continue to be updated throughout the day to take into account team news from press conferences e.t.c.

The third part of the model, the player rates, has had a massive overhaul in the way it is updated. In recent seasons, it has been felt by us and the community that RMT is too slow to react to player form, whilst we have been really strong at reacting to team news etc. The reason for this is the way the code was set up- it suggests updated model numbers based for rates of scoring, assisting etc but needs someone to scrutinise them and manually change them each week (can be very time consuming).

Now that we have xG and xA in the model the model is much better at latching onto early season form and has made the decision to switch to automatically updating player rates easy. We still have the ability to tweak individual players rates (i.e. increase/decrease goalscoring rates for a player by a certain percentage) in response to information (a player is now on penalties or is playing in a deeper role) that the model is not aware of. Crucially, these tweaks work on top of the model so whenever a player has a good game, getting a higher than usual xg or xa, their RMT projections should increase and if, for example, Aguero plays 90 minutes and gets 0 xg, his goalscoring projected numbers should decrease. Tweaks will be reviewed each week as the players will (if the tweak was correct) start to regress in the direction of the tweak, making the tweak less necessary.

Because of all this work to the RMT model, I haven't had time to update the HoF code but I am hoping the first HoF update will be during the week after GW3.

TL-DR: RMT is now better and HoF should be updated next week.

        Thanks for the update.
Still don't get some things like the RMT scores from Hamer/Lossl, even if there's a fair chance the former being dropped soon, it doesn't make sense to me and it sure doesn't help me on my keeper selection between Hamer and DDG.

Would hardly call it a big mistake...Huddersfield have a decent chance of keeping a CS at home against Cardiff... United less so against Spurs. I still think DDG is the pick because I think if United do keep a CS (which is more likely than the bookies may predict) then he will likely get a lot of save points.

Looks so right and much more better.
Made Mkhi my priority this GW and having Mane already covers some Salah points. Hazard looks the form man and with Chelsea fixtures he’ll be hard to ignore and the next big bandwagon!

Mahrez won't play LWB. Think City likely to revert to a 4-2-3-1, with Gundogan and Bilva in the pivot and Sterling, Dilva, Mahrez behind Aguero.

One single price change has caused me a hiccup to what seemed a feasible solution.

King + Firmino > Ings + Auba could have been perfectly accommodated by getting a 4.0 keeper for one of my 4.5s. That 0.1 drop by King is ruining it. Might just do the Ings move for now and reevaluate again next week with 2FTs.

Just hold. Unless you got an FT to burn. In which case King to Ings probably

Think this is a solid team for this GW? Pretty happy to say i haven't used a WC Pickford (Speroni) Mendy, TAA, Alonso (Kabasele, Awb) Salah, Lucas, Fraser, Rich (Odoi) Firminho, Zaha, AgueroMade 2 FT this week to bring in Fraser and Alonso for Ozil and Diop...
Will look to transfer out firminho and lucas in net 1 or 2 GWs...

Quite new to the RMT tool.. it has me scoring more points having king in my team over Wilson Which I find strange..

Also what's a high predicted score on there?

Bernardo Silva to Miki, for -4. Is this crazy, or might just be worth a punt?

I'd want as many Man City forwards as I can have in my team for a while

Not worth it. Wait a week, see if Arsenal play about with their line-up against a weaker side. Auba may shift wide left to accommodate Laca up top, which could limit Mhki minutes. If it was a FT maybe, but not for a -4.

I think it would be worth the punt.

Made that transfer this week, but wouldn't have done it for -4. Bilva will prob blank against Wolves but it's a sideways step.

I was wondering this myself, minus the hit part. I think I'm sticking with Bilva for now. Arsenal for me need another week or two, so I can judge how they do against non-Big-Six teams and understand where Emery's head is truly at.
