A large portion of Fantasy managers are backing the key Spurs’ men for their Monday night trip to Manchester United.

Harry Kane (£12.5m) comes into the match as the most popular player and captained by just under 500,000+ managers.

Only Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Sergio Aguero (£11.2m) were backed by more in Gameweek 3, and the England captain needs two goal involvements to outshine them both.

Kieran Trippier (£6.0m) is the next most fashionable member of the Spurs squad, 24 percent of Fantasy managers hoping for a repeat of recent free-kicks scored against Croatia at the World Cup and Fulham in Gameweek 2.

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea (£6.0m) remains owned by just over a quarter of managers, despite not yet keeping a clean sheet in 2018/19. Although with Spurs bringing plenty of attacking talent to Old Trafford, this match is unlikely to be the last straw for him.

The Spaniard is one of just two United players with double-figure ownership. The other one is Paul Pogba (£8.1m), currently backed by 18 percent following back-to-back converted penalties.

There will be some interest Christian Eriksen (£9.4m) and Dele Alli (£9.1m) with the Dane still just ahead of his English team-mate’s ownership, inspite of losing some set pieces duties to Trippier. Eriksen sits in 11 percent of squads with Alli in 7.6.

The secondary defenders (in terms of popularity) for each side are Luke Shaw (£5.1m) and Jan Vertonghen (£6.0m). The United man is in 8.7 percent of teams with Vertonghen in 10 percent.

SOMETHING ABOUT JOE AND WILLY BOLY.

Ed Woodward is far more to blame than Mourinho.

Nobody can deny that United were good tonight until Kane scored. They were the better team but didn't take their chances. Mourinho identified his defence has being an utter shambles and tasked Mr Woodward to sign him some defenders. He failed with every single target. Mourinho's defence is constantly letting him down. The system was fine. The defenders are subpar.

Jones loses Kane for the goal from the corner.
Jones is about 20 yards behind the play for no good reason and doesn't track Eriksen for the second goal.
Smalling gets mugged by Moura for the third goal.

I don't support United - Fulham fan - but Woodward is far more to blame than Mourinho imo. No excuse for a team with the financial firepower and international allure of United to be unable to purchase any established defenders in a whole summer.

This is the comment of somebody with an agenda. United were far weaker than City last season and Jose wasn't backed in the transfer market. Stop talking about the money he spent 3 whole years ago, that's irrelevant. What matters is the fact that United had a weak team in the summer and for some reason wasn't allowed to improve that squad. That's on Woodward.

There's a completely fair argument that ManU's squad wasn't a tad weaker than City's. Their tactics and particularly use of the great attacking players was for sure.

Probably, the problems at United have been there since Ferguson left, or rather were there the whole time but only reared their head once he'd left, the club just doesn't have the right strategy in place for the longterm but they're supposedly trying to rectify that by looking to appoint a DoF.

Mou got Lindeloff, Fred and a couple of other crappy signings. Mou can't utilize Sanchez. Mou plays poor football with a good team.
Utd have spent a lot of money. This is mostly on Mou

      Mourinho signed those players

      1. Obi-1 Kenobi-0
        • 11 Years
        8 years, 21 days ago

Mourinho signed Young, Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Darmian, Shaw? No... he got stuck with them. The only defenders Mourinho has signed are Bailly who is a 10/10 one week and a 1/10 the next, and Lindelof who is poor (but cost less than Mangala who was awful for City). When City make a mistake with Mangala, he was instantly replaced by spending more money, whereas Mourinho is forced to stick with the aforementioned group of subpar players.

£30m is nowhere near a hefty price. That's the price for a project, which is exactly what Bailly and Lindelof are.

You pay £65m (Walker), £70m (Van Dijk) or more for the best defenders, which is what Woodward has failed to bring to United.

        1. stamboy
          • 13 Years

At the time 30m was quite big for defenders. Now since Neymar the game has changed so not a fair comparison

      Mourinho in August 2017:

"In many ways, it is my team. In terms of the squad, this is my second transfer window. I was thinking, three transfer windows, I need that. But after two windows I have a good group and a football club much better equipped.

"We are much better organised in the areas that support the first-team squad. We are much better organised at every level. So we will go for it this season. We are going to try to win the title."
