More names from our panel of Fantasy Premier League managers are back to answer your questions, this time as we go into the first international break of the campaign.

The big question which we’ve had plenty of submissions on is whether Mohamed Salah (£13.om) should come out of our squads.

We’ve got some opinion on that conundrum while the subjects of transfers during the international break and Wildcard tips are also discussed.

Once again, we had an overwhelming response to our request for questions. Unfortunately, we can only answer a handful each week but keep your queries coming in for the rest of the season.

Here’s a reminder of who is on the panel for your Gameweek 4 Question Time:

James Egersdorff – You can’t get much more experienced than this man when it comes to FPL. After yet another season inside the top 5,000 managers in 2017/18, James is a Fantasy Football Scout ‘Hall of Fame’ legend.

Tom from Who Got the Assist? – One half of one of the fastest growing FPL podcasts of recent times.

Holly Shand – Founder of the popular Fantasy Football Community website and recent video star for Official FPL.

QUESTION ONE – JAMES EGERSDORFF

Do we have enough information to be reasonably sure that Mane provides a better points return over Salah and if so, should we be looking to move Salah on?

James: “The lack of a double-digit return from the ‘Egyptian King’, combined with the smoking hot start to the season from Mané has led many FPL managers (myself included!) to investigate the possibility of doing the unthinkable and removing Salah from our squads.

“As a pre-Gameweek 4 Wildcarder, it’s fair to say the idea of cashing in on Salah did look attractive. I spent the week tinkering with my squad given with treasure trove of riches his £13m opened up. It looked like a combination of Mané and Hazard versus Salah and a (roughly) £7m midfielder here.

“It’s definitely a tough choice. We’ve only had four Gameweeks played and therefore only a small sample of data to base such a potentially season-defining decision on. So I kept the Egyptian in my squad.

“We must ask ourselves ‘do we feel that Mané and Salah will maintain their current performance levels?’ Mané is flying right now, with a score of 9.8 per game to Salah’s 6.8. To put that into context, if they were to continue that over 38 Gameweeks, Mané would smash the all-time FPL high score record (303 set by Salah last season) with a whopping 372. Do we really think he’s capable of doing that?

“On the other hand, Salah would weigh in with just over 258, which in fairness isn’t a million miles away from his optimum points per game levels seen in 2017/18.

“Working the figures again, this tells us Salah is underperforming against last year’s figures by around 15 percent, whereas Mane is massively overperforming, even when we factor in his 10-game absence last season.

“The question FPL managers need to ask themselves therefore is whether they feel Salah will make up the performance level deficit and return to the mean and whether Mane can continue to outperform his mean score by such a high margin.”

QUESTION TWO – HOLLY SHAND

How much team value can you potentially earn playing your Wildcard during the international break and is it worth using if your squad doesn’t need a major fix?

Holly: “The international break tends to be a steadier time for price rises and falls than many expect. So I’d expect perhaps just one or two players rising twice, to give the all important £0.1 million gained value.

“However, if you cannot afford the price swings to ditch underperforming assets for the in-form players, the Wildcard can still be valuable.

“Beware the fixture swings and chasing early season points though.

“Liverpool in particular have a tricky upcoming spell.”

QUESTION THREE – TOM

If you are not planning to use the Wildcard for Gameweek 5, how many point hits should we consider taking to make up an injury and suspension filled squad? Also, should we be making early transfer considering how fast players prices are rising?

Tom: “How many hits should we consider? Well, obviously this depends very much on your team and what the situation is.

“If you are dead set on keeping your Wildcard, I’d focus on getting a good XI out for Gameweek 5, after International Break, rather than fixing bench fodder – unless you are doing a combination move as part of your hit (i.e. moving a £4.5 defender down to a £4.0 to free up cash).

“That being said, I’d be thinking that if you need multiple hits to deal with your team’s injuries and suspensions then there’s no need to be stubborn about pulling your wildcard; your squad needs it.

“Should we make early transfers considering how fast players’ prices rise? It depends in what context.

“If there’s little to no midweek action, as we’ve seen at the start of this season, then an early transfer is a risk that can be worth taking.

“However as we saw with Wilfried Zaha and Kevin de Bruyne picking up training ground knocks you are never immune from a shock injury.

“But as we start to enter the period where continental football and other cup competitions return, I’d advise being more cautious with your early transfers as you may end up needing a hit to fix an impetuous move.

“Essentially: you’ll remember your overall rank at the end of the season, not your team value.”

I think they need to play in a way that gets the best out of Kane (as last season with Son playing) I don’t think Kane performs well in the current set up alongside Moura. Can see Moura getting dropped

I've owned Holebas previously and have been both rewarded with attacking returns but also punished with yellows, suspension(s?) from accumulated bookings and sporadic benchings. He does look like he's settled down somewhat, and Watford look a much better team in general and I think are likely to keep more cleansheets. Do people think Holebas is less prone to being benched and less of a liability in general then in season's passed?

Holebas looks to be the main provider for Watford.

I'm lucky in that I've had him from the start, although I benched his 10 pts last week.

He and Watford look in great form and we know he's in set pieces, so he's worth a place for me.

Yep. You're likely right. I'm looking for anything to suggest he won't keep up these returns. Moving towards 5 at the back could end badly.

maybe I'm being hard on myself, obviously wish I had taken the 'risk' now - I just think such concerns come into the overthinking category, I removed Moura after GW2 because Lamela was sniffing around - maybe it's best to wait for them to actually be dropped before acting on it

I think that we ask wrong questions here. Its should not be "Salah > Hazard?" rather Salah AND Hazard.
Salah and Liverpool like to score vs big teams plus their callendar just after next two is perfect! Good luck with getting 13 mil player back.

I have all three and invested in premium defenders and of course WBA to offset cost. It has me with 3 budget strikers. Arnie, Mitrovic and Ings. Totally new strategy for me but I wanted to have best midfield and premium defenders (offensive full backs) and two keepers who rotate well. Working well so far!

No Kun? Kun always break / make my season. I’m not going without him for now. Man City are still bookies favourite to win EPL and the goals got to come from somewhere. If it comes down to Hazard vs Kun, I pick Kun.

Also depends on if you are going to have to bring him back in.
For me - if I was to ship him it wouldn't be with the thought of getting him back in but strengthening elsewhere.
There is always the 'what if he goes on fire'

I'm hoping leaving Mane and Robbo in there is enough (if I lose him)

    4. SADIO SANÉ

as of last night I'm now on Hazard Pedro Salah Mane - Pedro is risky and probably becomes Richarlison but if not I see no reason to remove any of them, inside forwards playing in a system that is designed for them to score goals.

      1. SADIO SANÉ
        • 10 Years

people did Mane -> Hazard or now Salah -> Hazard because they 'need' Alonso, they are forgetting that clean-sheets and attacking points are available at sub-5.0 (although admittedly harder to predict), which allows you to have both

    5. Lone Wolf FPL
      • 10 Years

As far as I can fit in ARM, Salah, Hazard and Aguero which I all have atm he is going nowhere.
Only reason to sell would be gettin Kane or Salah really poor form in 3-4 next games.

Likely to be a good performer. But Fraser is cheaper and more nailed on and Mitrovic is likely going to end up in everyone's teams so Schurrle double up isn't great.

The stats back him up as the real deal, but time will tell whether he keeps his place in the team if he goes a week or two without scoring.

Do intend to use the international break to play about with potential WC options just in case.

So, bit of maths. Merits of owning the 'new' holy defensive trinity of Robbo/Alonso/Mendy.

Current prices 6.1/6,8/6.4. Say you go three '4.5' with AWB and Bennett, that's likely to be 4.7/4.4/4.8 (Holebas/Doherty/Digne)

So, roundabout 5.4m. If I were to do this on a WC I could get:

    Patricio Hamer
    Holebas Jonny Digne AWB Bennett
    Salah Hazard Mane Moura Richarlison
    Ings Mitrovic Aguero

Beautiful team. Maybe keep one pricey defender and drop moura for bench fodder. He won't keep it up (i have owned him since the start of the season)

Though if I were you I would bring in one premium defender, just for a little cover. That midfield is almost too deep.

Thoughts on Trippier as a 6 million option? It's between him and Smalling for me right now. Im very worried about Trippier sharing minutes with Aurier. Backline already has Mendy, Alonso, Awb and Bennett

Just go Shaw or TAA. Shaw looks solid and his attacking play has looked very promising so far.

Out of the 2 Trippier has to be the obvious one. He's taking a lot of set pieces & has a decent schedule coming up. Your concern though is genuine, u should expect Aurier to get a few starts here & there, especially around big CL matches. If you think your bench has enough to handle it then go ahead with it. I'm not sure ymwhy you're looking at Smalling at that price.

Trippier surely first choice over Aurier now. May miss out the odd game, but Wan Bissaka can cover for that. Huge attacking potential when he plays.

With the following WC, which do you think is the better option?

    A. King (bought at 6.0) + budget bench (4.0 GK, 2x 4.0 defender, 4.5 MID)
    B. Ings (would be bought at 5.6) + an upgrade on my bench.

    Patricio Norris
    Alonso Mendy Robertson (AWB Bennett)
    Salah Hazard Pedro Maddison (Anguissa)
    Aguero Mitrovic Wilson

Pedro -> Richarlison when he's back. Leaning towards A as I feel that one of AWB, Bennett or Anguissa will always play so no real need to strengthen.

    Ederson (Hamer)
    Mendy, Robertson, PVA, AWB (Ream*)
    Salah, Mané, Mkhitaryan (Fraser, Cairney*)
    Aguero, Arnautovic, Ings

    A. Ream + Salah > Alonso + Hazard (-4)
    B. WC. For example:

    McCarthy (Fabianski)
    Alonso, Mendy, Robertson (Boly, AWB)
    Hazard, Mané, Moura, Maddison (Fraser)

He looked great vs. Cardiff. Aubameyang will score too but when they play together it's Lacazette that looks like the main goal threat, and the stats back this up too. If I was brave enough I'd do Aubameyang to Lacazette right now, but I need to know more about his security of starts first.

I have the same issue. I brought Theo and Zaha in for -8 and got completely trolled. Toon at home will be no pushover so I am going to see if I can hold Zaha until we learn how long he will be out for.

I am tempted to updgrade him to Lacazette, but it will need a hit.

-8, ouch ! I feel your pain. Think it's worth waiting despite inevitable loss of value, however, personally I have enough itb to make the switch to Laca now and save the loss of value throigh price drops/increase so it is tempting.

You would think so, but the Auba-Laca pairing looked good going back to the end of last season. So why did Emery wait until game week 4 to start them together? I just don't understand it. If I could be comfortable that Laca was nailed, I would do Salah to Hazard and Zaha to Laca in a heartbeat.

Feel that a Leicester player (hopefully Maddison/Chilwell, but could easily be Vardy) will establish themselves as essential over the next few weeks... Their run of fixtures now until GW16 (SIXTEEN) is insane.

Vardy does better against good teams! 😀 But yes, I agree - not sure how I'll fit a Leicester player in though. I think I prefer Fraser and Pereyra (and Richarlison when he's back) to Maddison. I suppose I could get Pereira or Chilwell for Shaw if he loses his place or United underperform.

Unknown quantity in the premier league and isn't in such form that we can overlook that. Mitrovic is scoring goals and has good stats, Wilson is getting points, would likely be able to hit at least 10 goals over the season looking at part history, good stats, Ings, good stats, we know he can score goals from his time with Burnley, scoring goals.

Yeh that's fair. On WC and have one predicament - Mitro is 0.5 too pricey for me as a 3rd striker (got Aguero and Laca). So either:

            Richarlison and Wilson/Ings
            OR
            A 6.2 mid and Mitro

    Lowton - PVA - Mendy - VVD - Peltier
    Salah - Mikhi - Cairney - BSilva - Walcott
    Aguero - Ings - Zaha

    0.9 ITB, 1FT

A - WC and replace Speroni, Lowton, Peltier, Cairney, trying to get in Alonso for VVD and Pedro for BSilva, allowing Cairney to Fraser

B - Do VVD > Alonso due to fixtures and form, for free, before price rise
