There were impressive performances for Aleksandar Mitrovic and Andrew Robertson on international duty on Monday night.

That may be of encouraging news to their owners currently worried about whether to start them for difficult fixtures in Gameweek 5.

All that and more Fantasy Premier League talking points from another night of international action in this latest Scout Notes article.

SERBIA 2-2 ROMANIA

Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.7m) – 90 minutes
Nemanja Matic (£5.0m) – 19 minutes

Aleksandar Mitrovic continued his blistering start to the season by adding another two goals to his tally. The Fulham man has now found the net six times in the first five matches of 2018/19 with two assists to boot, one of his club and one for his country. In his last 30 matches in all competitions he has scored 23 goals.

Such form should ease any concerns among Mitrovic’s 19% ownership about starting him in Gameweek 5 when he faces a trip to Manchester City. The champions remain without a clean sheet in their first two home matches of the campaign while Fulham have registered more big chances than either of the sides to have already scored at the Etihad Stadium in 2018/19.

SCOTLAND 2-0 ALBANIA

Andrew Robertson (£6.1m) – 90 minutes
Kevin McDonald (£4.5m) – 45 minutes
Stuart Armstrong (£5.3m) – 45 minutes
Scott McTominay (£4.4m) – 11 minutes

Andrew Robertson was a standout performer for Scotland as they recorded a much-needed win over Albania. The Liverpool man has recently been handed the captain’s armband and he led by example at Hampden Park. Much of the play went down the left side of the pitch and it was Robertson’s cross for Steven Naismith that created Berat Djimsiti’s own-goal.

There was disappointment for the 6% of Fantasy managers invested in Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser (£5.6m) as it was revealed he picked up a knock in training with Scotland and missed the match with Albania. He is now a doubt for Gameweek 5.

Robert Snodgrass (£5.5m) and Callum Paterson (£5.3m) were unused substitutes for Alex McLeish’s Scotland side.

PORTUGAL 1-0 ITALY

Rui Patrício (£4.5m) – 90 minutes
Rúben Neves (£5.2m) – 90 minutes
Bernardo Silva (£7.6m) – 90 minutes

Jorginho (£5.1m) – 90 minutes
Emerson Palmieri (£5.3m) – 16 minutes

There was a positive update on Bernardo Silva after he played the full 90 minutes for Portugal as they beat Italy in their UEFA Nations League debut. The Manchester City man had revealed last week that he came out of a friendly match at half-time with a groin complaint, but his run out on Monday night allays any injury fears ahead of Gameweek 5.

Rui Patrício got another 90 minutes under his belt, which should come as no surprise. But there was another full appearance for his Wolves colleague Rúben Neves who appears to be slowly establishing himself in the international picture. Southampton’s Cedric Soares was an unused substitute again.

Jorginho was the only Premier League player to play the whole match for Italy. Chelsea teammate Emerson Palmieri made his debut for the Azzurri while Davide Zappacosta (£5.2m) was not in the matchday squad.

SWEDEN 2-3 TURKEY

Victor Lindelöf (£4.9m) – 90 minutes

Caglar Söyüncü (£5.0m) – 90 minutes
Cenk Tosun (£7.0m) – 90 minutes

Everton striker Cenk Tosun played his part in a dramatic comeback Nations League win for Turkey on Monday night. He provided the assist for Emre Akbaba’s first goal of the night, an 88th-minute equaliser.

Elsewhere there was a second full appearance of the campaign for Leicester new boy Caglar Söyüncü as he builds up his match fitness. Watford’s Ken Sema (£4.9m) was an unused substitute for Sweden.

How serious do we think Fraser's injury is? Best to avoid bringing him in?

Howe called it a hamstring injury, which sounds a little ominous...

If it’s a hammy he will likely not be worth bringing in even on a WC.

Hopefully we will get a further update at Howe’s presser. I’m really hoping Fraser will be fit.

What this site could really do with is a statistician to put together a very brief 5 minute video that rockets through the 101 of stats as they may be applied to FPL. Reading regular use of 'significance' and 'probability' and 'relationship' and it would helpful for people to understand some of the basic rules. I am reading a lot of people who openly say they aren't familiar with this stuff and a lot of people who think they are but clearly don't know what they're talking about. I've done a bit as part of a couple of degrees but have lost most of it now and don't feel qualified to do it at all anyways. I'm sure if someone had the time or inclination it would be hugely appreciated. Presumably it would also help mods decide which data and analysis are worthy of HT and articles.

I agree. I’ve been a member since membership started yet I have no clue how to use most of the stats on the members area.

I have just been on wanting to look at Jota’s stats as a possible Fraser replacement but I’ve given up as I don’t know what I’m doing.

The big numbers is just some descriptive statistics. Literally anyone who can read and count can use it. The point of getting a deeper understanding of statistics is to recognise what may or may not have any value, out to be able to compare those statistics with others in a way that is meaningful

Am hoping for the exact same team as that too. Emery needs to get the finger out soon. Mustafi is just awful and Mavropanos was very good bar one mistake against United last season. Lichsteiner is a very solid right back and leader. Bellerin on the other hand seems to care more about his hair and fashion than he does about defending. And Xhaka is like Mustafi, he is awful and a headless chicken

I lot has been discussed about reasons to hit the wildcard button but what about the reasons not to? Here's a few of my thoughts.

1/ Everybody is doing it so why the hell should I? - This is a very popular GW to wildcard. If you wildcard now you will end up with pretty much the current template which a lot of people already have without using their chip. Having the same team as everyone else at this early stage isn't going to help you catch up.

2/ Fixture shift? What fixture shift? - Currently there isn't one apart from Liverpool's fixtures being bad but there is an argument to say that Pool are fixture proof anyway. There are big fixture shifts around GW9 and again around GW15 if you can hang on till then.

3/ Is there a hole in my pocket? - You might not love your current team but do you have a bunch of players that look like dropping in price and losing you budget? If not it might be wise to hold off and wait for that time to come (which it will, especially around the fixture shifts). A wildcard is a great way of stemming the flow of TV out of your team.

4/ You know nothing Jon Snow - It's only GW5. We haven't even started the Champions League yet. Which teams will rotate and in which positions? Is 4 GWs worth of data enough to base any sensible long term strategy on? Sure you'll have another wildcard in GW20 but you will probably want to save that for around the DGWs late in the season. That's a long time to wait to fix your team if you get it wrong now.

5/ You call that a knife? THIS is a knife! - Are you playing for OR or to win a minileague? If the latter it's like shooting first in a duel. If you miss you are in a LOT of trouble. You don't know yet whether you need to use your wildcard to differentiate to catch your ML rivals, or defensively to lock up a lead. As in poker it's a BIG advantage to act last.

I'm sure this isn't a comprehensive list. Has anybody else got some other reasons to hold their wildcard?

That's a double-edged sword. Apart from the luxury of not having to worry about injuries the 1st IB is the worst GW to wildcard. Lots of people seem to think it is good so a lot of the transfer don't count and the market moves slowly. Also all the transfers tend to be compressed in to one or two days so you don't get value from price rises as nothing happens and then on the last day they all overshoot their delta.

Couldn't agree more. Thisbis the longest I've held my wildcard since I've taken the game seriously. Feel like I'm in a good position though and only key player I'm missing is Alonso and maybe hazard or Mitro. Definitely an advantage to hold it as the template will have changed loads in a few weeks!

I’m in the same boat. It worries me that I don’t have Hazard, but I can’t see playing the chip to only address that, especially when I’m sure I’ll have issues further down the road.

I think this is a good post Crossfire. I tend to agree. There are a lot of sheep on here which, tbf, represents that there are some clearly rubbish players too who seek to simply emulate what others do. That doesn't make it wrong to play a WC - better players than me such as Eggersdorf have last GW. There's no fixture swing as you say, if anything, it's next week when Spurs run into good fixtures post Liverpool and Fulham jump to the top (for the next 5 GW's). I've put this as a Scoutcast question. I agree with you on Liverpool. Everybody owns Salah, Mane and Roberstion, of which the latter two have gone up in price, a lot in Mane's case. Yes, fixtures are tough but surely Liverpool will fancy themselves and they will be subject to little if any rotation except vs Southampton given the nature of the games. I get selling Salah to free funds, but why ditch Mane and Robertson when you have cash tied up and will want them back at some point?

Too many listen to "expert" advice that you have to play a WC in the IB because "prices go up". They haven't really, probably in large part due to the number of WC's being played. That's an old tactic. If you're forced into it, and I might be by large numbers of injuries, then that's one thing. But ditching an OK team and losing the most powerful chip because everybody else is playing it makes no sense.

Yeah I agree with this. I ditched Salah last GW for Hazard but Mane and Robertson are going nowhere. I'd want them back in my team soon enough. Spending transfers on taking out and bringing back a 13m player is one thing but you need a lot of potential improvement to do that with cheaper players and it's just not there.

I believe the wildcard is there for a major restructuring of your team either because everything has gone disastrously wrong or because you are taking the opportunity of a fixture shift to steal a march on the vast majority of players. What it's not there for is to get the same team as those who have started well as that is just cementing their advantage.

I haven't used it for any of those reasons above I just wanted different players and a re-think thats all.

We don't know who is going to start one game to another so whether its GW 5 or GW 15 it doesn't matter really so that's an invalid point really.

It's nice to change the team up a bit players are going to start hitting form now I think.

Lukaku-Eriksen-DIlva-Lacazette I might add these in who are far from template. The wing backs won't go be hauling like that every week that;s for sure there will come a time when the points shift to MID and FWD positions.

Big yes to point #5. As much as I’d love my OR to keep going up, the chances of winning the whole shooting match are minuscule, so at the end of the day, it’s more important to me to win my mini-league. The poker analogy is a good one, hadn’t thought of it that way.

That's good post and all are good Points but you are missing something that all of those points are general... Actually WCing or not depends on your team.
Taking hits or playing WB every week or keeping peltier or keeping many players that are always in doubt to start or keeping players that drops in price .. All of those are annoying.

Only point that matters for me atm. Is 4...

        Enjoyed reading your post

People talk absolute BS on about when to play wildcards. Generally they apply their own ideas based on their own individual set of circumstances and ethos/objectives to others teams, or just argue for whatever they're doing in an attempt to convince themselves they're right. And almost without fail there is no attempt to demonstrate with any kind of evidence, because it's bloody difficult to gather it, why they're right. It's usually biased in favour of hanging on to it and frankly, in the first half of the season, there isn't a clear cut argument to support that

Is anyone who is on a WC getting rid of Robertson?
Realistically I can only see Liverpool keeping 1 CS in their next 4 games (tot SOU che MCI) and that's the Southampton game.
Robertson has picked up 2 assists in 4 games but unlike Mendy and Alonso, clean sheets have been a big part of his points so far.

          What to do here:

          Ederson, Hamer
          Robertson, Luiz, Tomkins, Kabasele, Wan-Bissaka
          Salah, Mane, Mkhitaryan, Neves, Stephens
          Aguero, Morata, Tosun

          2FT.

Last chance for Morata(CAR) / Tosun (WHM) for sure, monitoring Mkhitaryan and of course try to bring Mendy or Alonso in within the next two GWs.
Too early for me to push the WC button.

Plan to do Tomkins -> Bennet to free up some cash. - Good decision?

          Transfer out:

          Transfer in:

            b > 2
Walcott will probably start again after the international break and if he's fit he is nailed, which you cant really say about Bernardo. D. Silva could work but it hard to say without knowing the rest of you city coverage so i'll have to go Pedro who is heavily favored by sarri

On Wc and I think i'm pretty set for now on the following team. Please make me change my mind because every time i'm certain of a team it usually goes to h*ll.

          Hart
          Pereira - Alonso - Trippier - Mendy
          Salah - Maddison - Hazard
          Aguero - Wilson - Mitro

          Foster - AWB - Billing - Ward
          0.3 itb

Hart and foster rotates well in the upcoming 13-14 GW and hart looks fairly descent in the Burnley defense which should get better without their EL games. Leicester looks good and Pereira is nailed, either in defense and sometimes as a winger. Trippier will switch to robbo when the fixtures swings for Spurs and Pool. Maddison is on all set pieces and should be able to get a descent return from set pieces. Hazard looks great and I don't have the guts to go Salahless when he started the season this good. Front three is fairly strong with Agüero as the main man for hauls and wilson/mitro with a (hopefully) chance to get consecutive returns.

          Please shoot me down

Personally i would drop hart as he could well be dropped by Burnley soon. Don't wanna waste transfers on keepers.

Can i have your feedback, please? I am leaning towards chickening out and going for salah.

Logic: i have a good rank so far and reckon a lot of people abive me won't have salah, so i could make ground on them when(if) mane reverts to normal output and salah explodes

          Patricio, Hennessey
          TAA, alonso, mendy, holebas, AWB
          salah, hazard, richarlison, madison, billing
          Mitrovic, aguero, ings

Don't intend to ever start Billing, so would normally be 343 or 442. Possibly even 5 at the back if the fixtures force me down that route
