Do we make our own luck? Or are there unforeseen events that can conspire to ruin even the best Fantasy managers’ seasons?

In this week’s Scoutcast, David, Andy and Az join me to discuss the role of fortune in Fantasy football as we look to introduce a ‘luck league’.

This is one of a number of new and revamped features we trialled following the international break.

This saw the return of old favourites, including Rough with the Smooth and clean sheet predictions, as well as a new version of Fantasy Island Risks that focuses purely on low-owned gems.

Our Community section has undergone a late spring clean too, focusing on the week’s key teams, players and talking point to allow us to have more in-depth discussions.

But as with all trials, some things don’t quite go as planned.

The introduction of forfeits for the Scoutcaster with the lowest monthly score and an unexpectedly controversial quiz proved to be more works in progress, which will be put back on the shelf for the time being.

Among all the upheaval we also find time to ponder going without Liverpool’s pricey talisman Mohamed Salah and frisk the fixtures to analyse the teams with the best upcoming run of games.

This Scoutcast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Thank you for another great scoutcast, loved the luck vs skill part.

Also thanks for adding to my headache as I'm on a WC. Could really use some feedback as some injuries killed my preferred WC team.

    Patricio - Hamer
    Pereira - Alonso - Mendy - WB - Bennet
    Hazard - Salah - Maddison - Brooks - Jota*
    Deeny - Kun - Mitro

Jota is a placeholder for Richarilson, might be a nice one week punt if Jimenez is out (could start as striker like he did in pre-season)

Don't even know who Brooks is but...

Hamer as second keeper needs a better 1st than Patricio imho.

Looks great on all other fronts.

Brooks is a good pick. You need stats to know what he is good at 😉

        Thanks for the feedback 🙂

Brooks has great numbers for Bournemouth (with no output at all), didn't start last week but I think it was due to formation change against Chelsea.

I would go for Pedro if you can stretch instead of Jota for a one game punt.

Assuming they return to a 4-4-2, you'd expect Stan to play in his normal RM role and Fraser in his LM. This would mean Brooks misses out, unless he comes inside.

If they continue in a 4-3-3, Fraser could make way / be pushed to wing back to allow Stan to enter the front 3, but last time out Brooks was left out anyways.

The issue is, a lot of these players can play anywhere in midfield. Stan for example can play RM, LM or in a front 2/3, so it's all guesses currently.

            1. MTPockets
              7 years, 10 months ago

No expert on Bournemouth, but fairly sure Stanislas was LM and ousted Fraser towards end of last season. But yep who knows.

Fraser looks great, can't see him getting dropped. Stan will take a few weeks to get in shape but don't think I want a Cherries lineup headache..

I think there were 4 games in March when this happened, then Stan got injured. Prior to that they played together with F at LM and S at RM, but they hanged formation about 98 times, with Fraser going to full back a number of times.

                Eh, who knows 😉

                1. MTPockets
                  7 years, 10 months ago

Just had a look too. Fraser was only benched for 3 games while Stan took up LW, but then Stanislas was crocked again so impossible to know counter factual. Prior to that, as you say, positions were mixed up.

Will say it again, the GK combo will most likely backfire. Hamer (not sure he will return over Lossl) needs a better first GK than Patrico.

Salah + Mane is too much Lpool for the tough fixtures coming, look for Haz.

Richarlison over Walcott, you've a strong enough bench to cover his absence this week.

Why would you not have Walcott instead if he plays? Home fixture against winless hammers? I’m going for Salah and fodder the week after for hazard and Walcott because I can’t risk not having Salah for too long, then plan to rotate Richarlison with Pedro each week on transfers depending on fixtures

Seems a waste to me to plan upcoming transfers on a wildcard, something else might come up in the meantime that you have to deal with instead then you could find yourself stuck with Walcott when Richarlison is back.

Yeah I do agree with that, it’s jusy that the game Richarlison comes back is arsenal away (not that that’s a fixture worth fearing these days) but when I could get Salah in that weekend against saints at home I think I can safely bet where more points are likely to come. But I do appreciate the feedback, I think I’ll get rid of Walcott tonight anyway as his price might go down, even if I decide to get him back in before the deadline starts so I don’t lose value when permanently selling him

Logic says home win, however the closer the game comes the more I see Liverpool putting a ponderous Spurs in a chokehold with a lively Salah sticking two fingers up at the Salah-less heathens amongst the FFL community.

After transferring in Walcott for Richarlison last week, I told myself "have to save your free transfer next week and be patient"

Walcott gets injured - no worries, I can still save, this is why you got a stronger bench than usual on your GW3 WC

Fraser reported as picking up an injury - ah, that's nothing, your smart WC plan is going to pay off since I still have Jimenez

hey look, Jimenez a doubt....- 4 here I come

    Which combo do you prefer?

    A) Milner + Chilwell
    B) Ozil + Morgan
    C) Madisson + Morgan

Transfers come very cheap in this game, so a few punts is not the end of the world

None of 'em, Arsenal won't get clean sheets. Just avoid Arsenal all together, better for your sanity.

this. Laca looks like being possibly the only decent option right now, and with Europa League, he'll no doubt miss PL as well.

Great fixtures, Bellarin has looked attacking but little to show for it and can't see them getting many clean sheets despite the fixtures. What about one of the Leicester full backs? I like the look of Rico from Bournemouth or Digne from Everton for a punt but not 100% sure they will start.

Do these moves worth -8 over next 2 GWs?

GW5: Walcott, Eriksen to Hughes, Hazard (-4)
GW6: Bernardo, Ings to Maddison, Mitro (-4)
