Do we make our own luck? Or are there unforeseen events that can conspire to ruin even the best Fantasy managers’ seasons?

In this week’s Scoutcast, David, Andy and Az join me to discuss the role of fortune in Fantasy football as we look to introduce a ‘luck league’.

This is one of a number of new and revamped features we trialled following the international break.

This saw the return of old favourites, including Rough with the Smooth and clean sheet predictions, as well as a new version of Fantasy Island Risks that focuses purely on low-owned gems.

Our Community section has undergone a late spring clean too, focusing on the week’s key teams, players and talking point to allow us to have more in-depth discussions.

But as with all trials, some things don’t quite go as planned.

The introduction of forfeits for the Scoutcaster with the lowest monthly score and an unexpectedly controversial quiz proved to be more works in progress, which will be put back on the shelf for the time being.

Among all the upheaval we also find time to ponder going without Liverpool’s pricey talisman Mohamed Salah and frisk the fixtures to analyse the teams with the best upcoming run of games.

This Scoutcast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

    Final adjustment. Wildcard team complete!

    Begovic
    Alonso Mendy Holebas
    Hazard Mane Dilva Neves
    Aguero Vardy Mitrovic

    Bench: Boruc, Wan-Bissaka, Bennett, Billing.

Thoughts on the team? Any critique?

It's the team I wanted to go with. Just did not have the balls to go without Salah any longer. I've been Salahless, but got a gut feeling that I had to bring him in. Team looks good!

Good Salahless team, but I think you need more Liverpool.
The way they play will bring them good results (and fpl points), I wouldn't like to miss out.
Maybe by doing Mitrovic->Wilson/Deeney and then Vardy->Firmino.
Also, the bench is very weak.

I agree with the Liverpool statement. However I feel the bench is fine. WB will get points, and so will Bennett. Plus the two of them rotate well for 1. sub place.

Begovic sucks. I owned last season before Pope came along

He does suvk. It was either him or Ryan as a cheapie combo.

Bournemouth have the kinder immediate fixtures. Once they get tough ill get rid of Begovic.

      Can we go without Salah?

    Bottomed in last page.

So this is what I've got so far on my WC.

    Patricio--Hamer

    Mendy--Alonso--WB- Holebas- Bennett

    Hazard-Salah-Pogba-Maddison-Hojbjerg

    Aguero-Mitro-Wilson

Got 0 itb. Am I all good to go or do you think I should change something? Planning on playing 3-4-3 for the 4-5 next game weeks. With a 1:3 rotation at the back. I've been playing with the thought of downgrading Pogba and getting Pereira at the back. But as I am rotating defense, I like the idea of having them cheap.

Patricio is great. Next 6 fixtures can play every week. Hamer isn't first choice so may not play again

Yeah don't understand why people keep falling for Pogba

      1. SirT83

Pogba has good underlying stats and fixtures are pretty good. The reason I am picking him is the potential he can bring. I can't see Man U continue beeing as poor as they have been. Who do you think I should pick instead of Pogba?
I don't need a better second goalie, as you say Patricio can play all weeks (next 5-6).

He's deep lying mid with a couple of penalties. Rather Lingard if must Man U. Got Lingard last season at 6m when everyone jumped on Pogba train that derailed

I don't need Man U at all. Just has a good feeling on Pogba. Took a closer look after you mentioned deep lying mid, and figured out that you are right. What do you suggest. No obvious choices in that price range. Dilva would be, but he is 0.3 to expensive.

Richarlison. You'll have him on the bench for one week but who cares. After his recent outing for Brazil I'm convinced this guy is going to be the real deal. You'll also now have 1.6 to spend.

He was inserted into the Brazil squad because he deserved to be there. He's 6.6m - that my friend, in my humble opinion, is real FPL value. He's going straight into my team in GW6.

If you think you might WC next week and have a FT, should you use it? Or just save and hope that you can wait on the WC for a little longer..

    Current problems in my team:

    No alonso
    3rd sub doesn't play (H-O)
    Walcott/Mhiki

I could maybe take a 4 pt hit next week for a mini-WC if I save - maybe go for Peryera + Fraser over Walcott and Mhiki to fund Alonso.

    1. Duffy Dunk
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 7 months ago

Alonso is the priority. How many hits would it take for you to get him?

      1. F_Ivanovic
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 7 months ago

This week? I have 1 FT and 0 ITB so I'd need a hit to get this week unfortunately. Not only that but the only way I can get him in with 1 hit is by:

        1) downgrading Salah to Mane
        2) going Mhiki > 4.5 and be forced to play 4-3-3 (I guess not the end of the world short term)
        3) By getting rid of Robertson for him and Mhiki > Fraser

        1. SirT83
          • 8 Years
          7 years, 7 months ago

Option 3 is viable for a - 4. Robertson has tough fixtures in both PL and CL, rotation risk.
Fraser has amazing underlying stats for that price. Wait and see if you get any news on him being ready for this weekends game though.

          1. F_Ivanovic

Maybe... I regret already some of the decisions I've made this season. Took an 8 point hit last week and was pretty happy with my team till Walcott + Zaha got injured and Mhiki got dropped.

But I also went around to getting my current team a long way around - I could have just gone Firmino > Aguero week 2 like I initially planned and Sanchez > Hazard - instead I took 12 hits over 3 GW's! Just feels bad to have to take another hit for Alonso.

    Stick or twist??..
I currently have Walcott, Fraser, Salah, Neves and Jorginho as my 5 mids, but with the first two being doubts for this weekend, do I ship Walcott (and for who) or do I save a transfer, assess next week and hope for the best?
I've got Aguero, Aub and Mitrovic upfront

        Considering to make a hit:
        Eriksen, Walcott to Hazard, Hughes

Other option is to stick with Eriksen and just ditch Walcott.

Even if I try to avoid hits this season, getting Hazard now seems like a good moment.
Chelsea will play in a weaker competition compared to Tottenham and I expect Hazard's minutes to be less managed compared to Eriksen's. Way tougher opponents for Tottenham.
Now that I've thought more about it, I'd avoid the hit. Would you wait on Walcott's injury update?

I own Pickford and Stekelenburg, but being disappointed by their lack of clean sheets, I plan downgrading Pickford to a 4.5 after gw5.

Got a bit of a dilemma but determined not to hit WC this week.
2FT 0ITB - Tomkins to Alonso is hard without a hit and the options aren't great...

    Fabianski
    Robbo Mendy WB
    Salah Mane Bilva Walcott
    Kun Arnie Zaha

    Foster / Neves Tomkins Peltier

Some potential options with the view to reassess next GW:
    A) Bilva, Tomkins -> Alonso, 5.1 (like Hughes)
    B) Bilva, Tomkins, Zaha/Arnie -> Alonso, Gray, Wilson (-4)
    C) Help

I've made the difficult decision to ditch Mane for Salah.
My reasoning is that once I've got rid of Salah, it'll be impossible to bring him back in, without changing half of the team.

    Maddison Pedro Hazard Salah
    Wilson Aguero

    Should I WC this. I have 2FT and 0.5itb
    Fabs, Foster
    Alonso, Mendy, VVD, AWB, Peltier
    Salah, Mane, Mikki, Fraser, Gunarsson
    Aguero, King, Tosun.

Lots of things to fix, but I do have 2 FT. Not sure what to do. Would like to save my WC if possible. But, I think with the Fraser news I may not have a choice.

I just did Walcott > Pedro for -4.

Even if he’s fit, he’s a serial troll and I fancy Pedro to outscore him nicely over the next 2 games. Then switch Pedro to Richarlison

Or keep Pedro. -4 for week or 2 seems pointless

2 weeks of Pedro then ship with a free transfer.

Pedro may be worth keeping more than 2 weeks.
If Sarri prefers him, he may be a great ticket in Chelsea's attack.

Just took in pedro myself... but im not entirely convinced that pedro will be a consistent performer over 2 or 3 gws. Rather have hazard but would need to take 2 more hits to do it.

Sorry if everyone is posting the same problem but I need to act quickly.
Got mkhitaryan Walcott and zaha. Looks like zaha is gonna play and I'm tempted to give mkhitaryan one more week. That being said my first sub is going to Wan B this week so not very ideal. What should my move be? Please help. 1ft 0 ITB. Has hazard and priced out of Pedro.
    1. Walcott to Maddison
    2. Walcott to Pereya
    3. Kamara to Wilson, Walcott to H. Costa of Wolves or Hughes for a minus 4

Thoughts? If I remember correctly Costa does play in a front 3 for Wolves and at 4.9 he is tempting. Is there a reason why he is cheaper than Kante? Many thanks

I wasn't too subtle! For the record, I wouldn't be surprised at all if King punished me now of course, but I wanted Mitrovic long term.

As for Pereyra - first choice was Fraser but couldn't risk the injury doubt. Considered Gray as a one-week punt before bringing Richarlison in, but concluded Pereyra was the one I wouldn't mind keeping longer than one week. (if I decide to wait on Richarlison)
