Uncertainty still surrounds the availability of several widely owned Fantasy Premier League assets this evening, with the Thursday and Friday press conferences not providing the unambiguous injury updates we had yearned for.

The 9% of FPL managers who own Luke Shaw (£5.1m) have had a rollercoaster week with one media report contradicting the other regarding his recovery from a concussion, and Friday was no different.

Jose Mourinho had effectively given Shaw the all-clear in his press conference earlier today, stating that the Manchester United medical department had declared him available for selection.

Mourinho himself, however, said that he “didn’t know” whether he would pick Shaw for the trip to Vicarage Road tomorrow and reports in the press this afternoon suggested the England full-back was not with the travelling party heading to Watford.

Those FPL bosses sitting on Ryan Fraser (£5.6m), Theo Walcott (£6.7m) and Wilfried Zaha (£7.0m) also face a nervous wait once the Gameweek 5 deadline passes, with little clear-cut information being offered by their respective club managers in the press gatherings today and yesterday.

Fraser picked up a hamstring injury while on duty with the Scottish national team over the international break and wasn’t pictured in training as of Wednesday this week.

Eddie Howe said Fraser was a concern for Saturday, though had been working with the club’s medical team in a bid to recover. Charlie Daniels (£4.5m) meanwhile hasn’t trained with the Cherries all week and is a big doubt for the visit of Leicester City.

Walcott and Zaha, at least, have been training with their respective clubs, though Roy Hodgson and Marco Silva stopped short of declaring their players 100% fit ahead of the weekend.

Silva claimed Walcott was “in contention” to play, while Hodgson said on Thursday that he would make a late decision on whether Zaha and James Tomkins (£4.4m) would feature against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Everton’s injury crisis at least shows signs of abating, with Bernard (£5.9m) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£5.4m) now available for selection – though Seamus Coleman (£5.4m) will be out for “one or two weeks”.

There was mixed news for three other England players injured before or during the international break, with Raheem Sterling (£11.0m) declared fit by Pep Guardiola earlier today but Dele Alli (£9.1m) and Adam Lallana (£6.9m) ruled out by their respective managers.

Mauricio Pochettino also confirmed that Hugo Lloris (£5.5m) would be out for “several weeks” with a thigh injury.

There was little to report concerning Chelsea’s likely starting XI against Cardiff City tomorrow, though Maurizio Sarri did suggest that Cesc Fabregas (£6.3m) may be fit enough for a place on the bench at Stamford Bridge.

Unai Emery’s press conference on Thursday was also thin on injury updates, though the Arsenal manager was quick to rubbish any rumours of a tiff with Mesut Ozil (£8.3m) – speculation that owners of Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.2m) might have hoped was true.

Arsenal are up against Newcastle United tomorrow, whose manager Rafael Benitez confirmed that Jonjo Shelvey (£5.4m) and Matt Ritchie (£5.9m) have recovered from their respective injuries to come back into contention.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£5.9m) and Stephen Ward (£4.9m) were declared fit to play against Wolves by Sean Dyche today, while his counterpart in the opposite dugout on Sunday – Nuno Espirito Santo – asserted that his returning international players were all “healthy”: good news for those worried about Raul Jimenez (£5.5m).

Jack Wilshere (£4.9m) was ruled out of West Ham’s trip to Everton with an ankle injury, meanwhile.

Neil Warnock was his usual loquacious self, effectively confirming that Danny Ward (a £4.5m-rated midfielder in FPL) and Bobby Reid (£5.4m) were his first-choice strike pairing for the time being.

Tom Cairney (£4.9m) remains out for Fulham, while Adama Diakhaby (£4.9m) is a minor doubt for Huddersfield. The Terriers’ goalkeeper Ben Hamer (£4.0m), however, appears to be back in contention to compete for Jonas Lossl‘s (£4.5m) starting spot.

Charlie Austin (£5.8m) and Shane Long (£4.9m) are minor doubts for Southampton, though Mark Hughes was more upbeat when discussing Danny Ings‘ (£5.6m) blister problems.

The Saints’ opponents on Monday night, Brighton, might have Florin Andone (£5.0m) – a potential threat to Glenn Murray (£6.5m) in the medium term – available for selection for the first time this season. There was no update provided by Chris Hughton about the knock picked up by Pascal Gross (£6.9m) in Gameweek 4, however.

There was little to report from Javi Gracia and Claude Puel’s pressers, though Caglar Soyuncu (£5.0m) is now fit and available for selection at centre-back for the Foxes.

Any advice on this? Wildcard A or B?

    A) Begovic (Boruc)
    Mendy Alonso Robbo (Bennett AWB)
    Hazard Mane Dilva Neves (Richarlison)
    Aguero Mitro Wilson

    B) Begovic (Boruc)
    Mendy Alonso Robbo (Bennett AWB)
    Hazard Mane Neves Hojbjerg (Richarlison)
    Aguero Lukaku Wilson

Mitro + Dilva beats Lukaku + Hojberg, as that’s the only difference I’d say A

    - have Kane, Mane, Salah -- points graveyard this week as TOT-LIV cancel each other out?
    - have only 2 fit defenders (amid reports Shaw did not travel and Tomkins a game time assessment)
    - no City coverage

    So, QUICK POLL:

    1. light a candle Tomkins starts, bank the transfer;
    2. Kane to Aguero
    3. Tomkins to Cedric
    4. use free hit chip to bring in City coverage (Aguero/Silva/Mendy) bring in Goalanso (have Hazard, Pedro already), shelf TOT-LIV players for the week...

    Patricio Hamer
    Alonso Mendy Pereira AWB Bennett
    Salah Hazard Mane Billing Hojberg
    Aguero Mitro King

Right now have to play one of AWB Bennett Billing or Hojberg each week

The question is... cash in on mane (sell for 9.7, hard getting back in for 10-10.2 in 4 weeks) to upgrade billing or bennett

I'm just as undecided on my WC as 2 weeks ago haha

    Patricio - Hamer
    Alonso - Mendy - Yedlin - AWB - Bennett
    Hazard - Mane - Pedro - Richarlison - 4.4m
    Aguero - Lukaku - Mitrovic

........but I keep changing my mind on Lukaku, Wilson and Salah.

A 13m midfielder is ridiculous, like. Especially when he's not on penalties.

    Good to go?

I still think Salah is great value at 13.0 myself. At the moment, the way I see it is you want 3 out of the big four - Aguero, Salah, Kane, Hazard. If you’re not going to have the most popular captain pick in your team every week it’s going to be a long season and Salah will be a lot of people’s go to captain most weeks IMO.

That's true, I guess when in doubt it's better to play the percentages and Salah has over 50% ownership. Lukaku will deliver but is he really 5m better than Wilson? Perhaps not.

        1. Marty McFly
          • 14 Years

I really like the Wilson pick. Tbh, my strategy is to have Salah/Aguero because of overall ownership and then the best other premium option, which i think is Hazard at the moment. If your squad is flexible in player value, theoretically you should only ever be -4 away from getting a big hitter in (I.e. making a move like Hazard/Wilson > Lukaku/budget midfielder

        2. Marty McFly
          • 14 Years
          7 years, 11 months ago

I think the differentials are for later in the season. The real question is, can you pick a captain each week that will A) outscore Salah, and B) have an ownership low enough to still result in a ranking rise. Because the chances are your captain pick will still be a popular choice.

Warnock has been renown throughout his career for chopping and changing strikers.

Fair call. I don’t really want to be having to make a sub for a 3rd bench spot so might be best to stick with Billing who is a nailed starter.

Billing not great for FF. But imo will end up playing for one of the bigger clubs. Very comfortable on the ball, rarely gives it away, and very young. And being 6ft 6in doesn't hurt either. 🙂

            Sorry that should be 6ft3in.

Yeh I know. I’m not expecting a huge amount from him, but if my third sub is having to come on then I think those 2 points might be handy. Just want someone nailed. Is it maybe even better to just save the 0.1 and go with Hojbjerg? That 0.1 actually gives me an easy trade to Richarlison back in again soon.

DSilva could be gold over the short term.

Tough call. I actually have Wilson, DSilva and Vardy. Would go A just. Can you fit in Maddison to cover Leicester’s fixtures? I would definitely want 1 Leicester attacker.

Cheers, I could and probably should switch Lingard to Maddison gets me a 0.2 I just have a gut feeling lingards going to have a good run

I’d make the change. I’m not a fan of Lingard and struggling to find United appealing at all. Lukaku is the only United player I’d consider ATM.

PVA & King > Alonso & Jiminez or stick?

I’d stick. King got great fixtures coming up so would keep him and PVA’s got HUD this week. Alonso looks almost essential though so would probably want to find a way to get him soon.

if free, definitely get Alonso and Jiminez...

(enough for Ings?) could do Mendy and Ings too. (Though Ings is out gw 6 v parent club LIV)

Would be for free, 0.1 shy of Ings annoyingly. Already have Mendy just feel I need to get Alonso in ASAP!

    Hi DZ

I own zaha, walcott and Mkhiraryan and a bench of (Schneiderlin, peltier, Kamara)
so would you sell one of mkhi or walcott or upgrade a bench player ?

    Was thinking one of these

    A. Pelt - Cedric
    B. Pelt - bennet
    C. Pelt - Doherty
    D. Mkhi and Kamara - Maddison and Ings -4

what do you guys think ?

D looks good, but keep in mind Ings cannot play gw 6 v. parent club LIV. I would pick A

Need much more information about the rest of your squad to be sure, but just from what you say, C, or D if it lets you bench a likely low scorer
