Investing heavily in Chelsea and Liverpool has proved a successful strategy for many this season. But with these two title contenders going head to head in Gameweek 7, is this ‘eggs in one basket’ tactic about to come unstuck?

David, Andy and Az join me to discuss the best strategy for dealing with these tricky ties when so many highly owned players are squaring up against each other.

We also consider the merits of bringing in the likes of Everton talisman Richarlison (£6.6m) and Arsenal’s newly sure-starting striker Alexandre Lacazette (£9.4m), as they answer the community’s questions.

Tapping into Spurs’ fine fixture run, and in particular, the improving form of Harry Kane (£12.4m), is also on the bill. But will Andy’s ambitious plan to swoop for the Tottenham forward leave him with egg on his face?

Elsewhere, the Scoutcast crew look at Gameweek 7’s likeliest clean sheets and best low-owned gems, reveal their plans for the next set of matches and laugh and cry at some of the community’s roughest and smoothest recent transfers.

This Scoutcast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

Who knows. If both hit the type of form they did at points last season it's gold, but haven't been convinced by Kane so far and haven't seen enough of Son. If it was between the 2 I might punt on Son just now

Patricio or Henn seem the most popular 4.5s on here, but I like having Fabianski. Always seem to get saves, and 11pts vs CHE was an unexpected but pleasant surprise.

Lots of talk on here, there and everywhere about whether to ditch Salah to get Kane. I haven't seen/heard anyone discuss ditching Hazard instead. There might be good reasons for that, but Haz often blanks at frustrating times. Pool's 1st team defence is better than Chelsea's - isn't Salah more likely than Hazard to score this weekend? And Chelsea have Man Utd in GW 9 - Mou will park the bus for that.

    One plan could be...
This week: Haz out for someone. Play Salah. (And bring Kane in for a hit if you like.)
GW8: Salah out (to avoid the city game) for Haz back in (for his Southampton game).
GW9: Haz out (to avoid Man Utd game), Salah back in (for the Hud game)
GW10: Get rid of Kane if you brought him in. (Vardy still has good fixtures from that point).

Those who played the WC recently should have a team relatively free of problems elsewhere, so they might be able to spend transfers on this sort of jiggery-pokery.

It's harder to ditch Hazard for Kane, you would have to go very cheap on your midfield replacement for Hazard to get Kane unless you have a lot ITB

Yeah a lot of people already have Aguero up top so they would be upgrading a lower priced forward to Kane, that's why they need to ditch Salah over Hazard

Personally I wouldn't be dropping either for Kane right now.

Salah may not be on the best form, but I wouuld be surprised if the CHE and MCI games end goalless or very low-scoring... free flowing, attacking football is what I expect.

Hazard is on banging form, and playing well with still decent fixtures, so don't fancy dropping him just yet either.

Haven't been convinced enough by Kane to bring him in for a hit really.

Also seems a bit of a waste of FTs doing that plan no offence

No offence taken, I'm sure you're right. I think I'm only thinking about it because I could do it, not because it's a great move. Don't have any other team issues at the moment.

I'm not bringing Kane in this week for sure. Have to say I am not hopeful for Haz vs Pool though and am thinking of the midfield swaps still. Haz could be Alli this week. Salah to Haz next. Haz to Salah after that.

Aguero, Mitrovic, Arnautovic, Vardy, Zaha, maybe even Lacazette all more attractive to own than Kane for me. Some because of price, but many for form. Absolutely zero chance I would be taking Hazard out for Kane.

    4. bench boost for every gamew…
      • 9 Years

Made a point under the topic made by Rotation alter ego, that one could have Kane alongside Salah, ditching Hazard and instead go for Rich, which has very good fixtures. You never know how things pan out though. But i wouldn´t do what you sugegst because that will occupy far too many transfers, i think this steategy must leave one of them entirely in this period, riding out the Southampton game if it is Hazard who gets the boot. Salah vs City screams points imo. I think using WC now could be a nice to do, then saving a tranny either in GW 8 or ) to allow a miniwc in GW10

Most people have Mendy or no City defender, so I wouldn't worry about that. Ownership % of other City defenders is low (Walker on 13.9, all the others 7.1 or lower).

    In a pickle:

Mendy injured, but currently have Alonso and Robertson on the bench. Surely I don't need to use a transfer there and can just play Alonso for the home fixture, ya? Or is he worth getting out now anyways with the drops and mixed fixtures incoming?

Also considering doing Stephens --> Ramsey with my FT and benching Mane. Sounds crazy but people get carried away with price tags, I bench people based on expected returns, not price. Money no issue at the moment with the plethora of firing budget options.

So hard to call, anything could happen. Chelsea have been leaky but from the past we know they can shut out anyone. Liverpool can also score against anyone on their day. At the Bridge which is good and this season I've been full hope-mode banking on Chelsea wins and it's been fun.

Nobody really stands out for me. Spurs have been relatively poor, and their best options are rotated. Arsenal's defence is always a question and there's a lot of individuals I expect to score against them in the coming weeks.

What to do here lads? I have the fear re Haz and Rich and feel any hits may be justified:

    £0.6itb, on -4 already
    Fab
    Alonso, Robbo, Doherty, PVA
    Salah, Mané*, Fraser
    Aguero (C), Wilson, Mitro

    (Foster) (Pedro*, AWB, Hughes)

I still have WC and thinking of playing it in GW9 so taking out players now not as serious potentially

    A) Pedro > Rich/ Madd (-4)
    B) Mané > Rich/ Madd (-4)
    C) Mané, PVA > Hazard, Duffy/ Boly (-8)
    D) Mané, Pedro > Haz, up to 6.0 mid (-8)
    E) Salah, Pedro > Haz, Rich/ Dilva/ Madd.etc

Fair enough, they're both defence long-term moves though and gives you a bench player

I'm very conscious of taking a hit with defenders with my rank. That would give me my 'wildcard defence' tho

I think a 4 pointer for long-term changes that gives you at least one bench cover is worth it. It probably won't pay off this week necessarily but would set you up nicely

Defence of Robertson, Vertonghen, PvA, Cedric & AWB

What would you do as if I play one of AWB / PvA I essentially wouldn’t want a CS as one would be on the bench, however don’t feel confident enough to play them both.

    Transfer PvA to double Spurs?

    Walker or Tripper?

Walker has better home fixtures in a better defence, with tough away fixtures. He also has good assist potential.

Trippier is a bigger rotation risk, but arguably has better overall fixtures. He also has set pieces and is an assist and goal threat, but is more likely to be rotated than Walker.

Walker has 0 assists this year so isn't worth 6.5 imo. Would rather have Trippier. If you want a city defender I would go for Laporte.

Bringing in Kane for one week is ridiculous isn't it? I'm just looking at GW8 and my only legit captaincy choice is Hazard away to Southampton. It could work out but I don't think that's a great fixture.

I'm thinking Aguero > Kane straight swap when Tottenham play Cardiff. Then bring in Salah the following week for a hit.

Kane isn't really interesting me. He still seems off form - I wasn't very impressed in that last game and he missed some chances that peak Kane would be smashing in.

Posted my WC team already and people seem to like it apart from the obvious NO LIVERPOOL - and they've asked my plan to get Liverpool attack in from GW9.

How does this look as a plan?

    WC team..

    Fab/Hart
    Alonso/Trippier/Shaw/Doherty/WB
    Hazard/Maddison/Richa/Fraser/Hughes
    Kane/Kun/Mitro

    GW9
    Kane(or)Aguero/Maddison(or)Rich > Salah/7.0 or Mane/9.9 or Firmino/10.5
    - Will try to cover Spurs/City with the remaining budget

I do personally, if he doesn't I have good cover in Doherty and WB so it's not the end of the world. That being said I'm considering maybe playing Doherty for his home fixture against Southampton over Alonso against Pool but unsure atm

TAA has Chelsea and City next and from what I have seen Shaw has been playing very well so far this season and getting forward a lot. West Ham and Newcastle next for UTD. I think I'll stick with him for now.

I think he's a good player to have on your WC even if you bench him for the next 2. Shaw is pretty unlikely to get many more points over TAA considering United's form.

            • 11 Years
            7 years, 11 months ago

You might actually be on to something there. I could start Doherty against Southampton and either Doherty or WB for their fixture against each other and then I have TAA for Huddersfield & Cardiff

I'm gonna go for it. Just hope a Shaw goal doesn't happen now.

            1. Pooodle
              • 17 Years
              7 years, 11 months ago

That's what I would do. Doherty is a great pick this week, and then you've got TAA lined up for when the fixtures turn.

United can occasionally tighten up and look good but the last 2 games have been simply shocking, and the team isn't settled. My biggest wildcard regret was going for Shaw and Robertson instead of Walker and TAA so I'm going to make those changes over the next 2/3.

This is a real tricky period of FPL. These next 2 weeks, then a break. CL rotation. Kane, Salah in n out. Richarlison. Captain next week. Pool fixtures and ideally 2 FT for after the break.

I’m torn. Aggression, Rich Kane in -4, bank 2 FTs for break (Pool players I sold in gw4 back for gw9) Kane C next week. Or just stick with Aub and Silva, saving a ft. After all, it’s WAT and BRI. Still have 2 FT for break but no reliable C next week.

Serious question and apologies if you think the answer is obvious but...

Why are people ditching Mendy without knowing how long he’ll but out for?
Am I missing something; could he be back GE8 for instance and therefore bench for one week more?

I just think without definitive news it’s not player I want to remove?!

If you owned him from the start you can ride out any price drops for now. I'm holding until we get more news, and my bench is good enough to cover his absence.
