Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Özil have started to draw attention to themselves in Fantasy Premier League as their form continued in Gameweek 7.

Both players registered attacking returns while options such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Aaron Ramsey disappointed once again. Alex Iwobi is also keeping himself in the mix for a first-team start.

Meanwhile, Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson was at the heart of a 3-0 win over Fulham while Richarlison let down his large ownership with another blank.

Arsenal 2-0 Watford

Goals: Mesut Özil (£8.3m)

Own Goals: Craig Cathcart (£4.5m)

Assists: Alex Iwobi (£5.5m), Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m)

Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) continued his impressive run of FPL points as Arsenal beat Watford 2-0. The Frenchman now has six goal involvements in his last five league appearances and can consider him unlucky not have a seventh. Craig Cathcart‘s (£4.5m) second-half own goal came from an Alex Iwobi (£5.5m) cross intended for Lacazette. He had more shots in this Gameweek 7 match than any other player. Crucially, it was another start for the former Lyon forward, who has featured from the beginning in every single one of the last four league matches. He has averaged 7.5 points per game in that time.

Also in-form and starting regularly is midfielder Mesut Özil (£8.3m). The German has been in the first XI for the last four Gameweeks and has scored in three of his last four appearances in all competitions. Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.0m) remains the most popular Arsenal midfielder (7.6% ownership), but Özil could prove the one to turn to. Aaron Ramsey (£7.4m) has historically been a fashionable option when looking for an Arsenal midfielder, but he has registered returns in just one match in 2018/19 and is likely affected by off-the-field contract issues. He certainly did not look happy to be substituted at the weekend, although manager Unai Emery was apparently happy with that reaction.

“I want a competitive spirit. When the players want to play every moment to help the team, I want this to help with his character for the team.” – Unai Emery

Replacing Ramsey was Iwobi, who delivered FPL points once again. The Nigerian international has appeared in only four Gameweeks but has registered attacking returns in three of them. Currently, Iwobi has a goal involvement every 55 minutes. That’s better than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 186 minutes and even Lacazette’s one every 76 minutes. If Ramsey does lose his place to Iwobi in the coming weeks, he could be one worth considering.

“(Iwobi) is working well every day. Three weeks ago he was outside the team because he had an injury. I am very happy with him because of his mentality. He can play right or left, maybe he can do more one on one. Also, I want him to stay nearer the box to score and finding assists for his teammates. This is the way for him.” – Unai Emery

There was a second clean sheet in a row for Arsenal, who have taken some steps to improve at the back. The Gunners allowed on average 14.6 attempts on goal in the first five Gameweeks, but this has dropped to 12.5 per game since then. Interestingly, they are conceding on average more big chances though. Accordingly, the jury is still out on whether Arsenal’s defence can be trusted with investment.

Centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulous (£5.2m) missed the match despite being cleared fit after an injury in Gameweek 6. Interestingly, Rob Holding (£4.4m) played in his place and picked up all three bonus points. If the Greek does lose his place in the team, then a regularly starting £4.4m option at Arsenal is worth being aware of. However, we currently suspect Sokratis was absent as a result of missing training in the week, nothing more.

Meanwhile, Bernd Leno (£4.8m) has finally been given a chance in the Arsenal goal. However, it was not through the choice of his manager but because of an injury to Petr Cech (£5.0m). The former Chelsea custodian sustained a hamstring injury and went off just before half-time at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. He looks to be out for several weeks.

“I don’t know now, tomorrow I know more. Maybe it’s two or three weeks, it’s muscular (hamstring). (Leno) is working very well with the goalkeeping coaches. I spoke with him and said the most important thing is when the team needs him to help us, to be prepared. He did that on Wednesday and today also – and against Vorskla. We have three very good goalkeepers. Petr Cech, his performances for us have been very important and his experience. Leno can learn by staying near with Petr Cech every day. I am very happy with him. He has waited for his moment and it’s arriving.” – Unai Emery

After making a perfect start in the first four matches of the season, Watford are now winless in their last three. However, there were some reasons for encouragement as they actually outperformed their hosts on both the shot and accuracy counts. The Hornets had 14 efforts on goal to Arsenal’s nine, and five on target to the Gunners’ two. With Bournemouth up next, Javi Gracia’s men are likely to find the net in that one.

That said, pinpointing who the primary goal threat for Watford is proving a difficult task. Roberto Pereyra (£6.3m) is without an attacking return since Gameweek 3, Troy Deeney (£6.1m) since Gameweek 4 and Andre Gray‘s (£6.0m) run of goals ended at the Emirates Stadium. The former Burnley striker had been looked at by some as a potential differential after he scored in back-to-back games. However, he has now been replaced in the second-half twice since Gameweek 6 when Watford have been chasing goals. That is never a good sign when considering Fantasy potential.

It was Isaac Success (£4.5m) who came on for him at Arsenal, a player who has earned praise for his performances in the League Cup of late. Gracia even name-checked him for his impact in his post-match quotes.

“One of (our chances) was in the moment when Troy (Deeney) had a very good chance with an amazing save, but not only free-kicks. We have created with Isaac Success with Roberto (Pereyra), there were different chances in different moments.” – Javi Gracia

Watford remained relatively unchanged from the side that drew 1-1 at Fulham in Gameweek 6. The only switch was right-back Marc Navarro (£4.3m) coming in for the injured Daryl Janmaat (£5.0m).

Arsenal XI (4-2-3-1): Cech (Leno 45′); Monreal, Holding, Mustafi, Bellerín; Xhaka, Torreira; Aubameyang (Welbeck 77′), Ramsey (Iwobi 63′), Özil; Lacazette.

Watford XI (4-4-2): Foster; Holebas, Kabasele, Cathcart, Navarro (Kiko Femenía 84′); Pereyra, Capoue, Doucouré, Hughes; Deeney, A Gray (Success 72′).

Everton 3-0 Fulham

Goals: Gylfi Sigurdsson x2 (£7.3m), Cenk Tosun (£6.8m)

Assists: Theo Walcott (£6.6m), Bernard (£5.9m)

Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.3m) scored his second and third goals of the campaign as Everton swept Fulham aside at Goodison Park. It was a match in which we learned a fair amount about the Icelandic international.

Firstly, it became apparent that he had assumed penalty-taking duties, which had long been held by FPL veteran Leighton Baines (£5.3m). Now that the left-back has lost his place in the team to Lucas Digne (£4.8m), Sigurdsson has appeared to be given the nod. However, he has now missed two of his last three competitive spot kicks, one for Everton and one for Iceland at the World Cup). It could, therefore, be worth waiting to see whether he remains the Toffees’ taker. Either way, he showed great mental character to come back from the miss and score twice.

“If he can score 10 goals this season it will be fantastic. I hope that when he scores the first direct free-kick more will come as well. Like all the others, he needs confidence. All of our players who play in our attack need confidence.” – Marco Silva

“It could have gone either way for me mentally. I could have crumbled, but I just said to myself let’s forget about it, let’s move on and try and score. If that had been five or six years ago when I was a bit younger I think I would have gone into my shell. I had to just get on with it and make sure it didn’t cost us.” – Gylfi Sigurdsson

Perhaps hoping to clinch penalty responsibilities from Sigurdsson is Richarlison (£6.7m). The Brazilian was heavily backed to score against a porous Fulham defence in Gameweek 7 but picked up just three points. There were encouraging signs for his 21.4% ownership though, as the only player to register more shots than him at Goodison Park on Saturday (five) was colleague Sigurdsson (six).

Digne has made the left-back spot at Everton his own, having started the last four matches in a row. The former Barcelona man currently sits second among defenders for chances created in that time. His role in set pieces has helped him to such lofty figures. The fact that Everton were not keeping clean sheets had counted against him when compared with the similarly priced Matt Doherty (£4.5m), but the Toffees have finally registered one. It was a shut-out that not many were expecting with Fulham’s attacking style of play so should be to their credit.

It was a second away match in a row that Aleksandar Mitrovic (£7.0m) did not find any attacking returns. However, Fantasy managers shouldn’t lose too much faith in the Fulham striker considering that he still had more shots than any of his colleagues. In fact, only Richarlison and Sigurdsson registered more in the match than him. Furthermore, Goodison Park has historically been a tough place to visit for the Cottagers anyway. They have never won a league match there and have lost on their last 22 visits in a row.

Mitrovic was probably not helped by manager Slavisa Jokanovic making a slight change to the Fulham formation. He switched from the usual 4-3-3 to a 4-4-1-1 with Andre Schürrle (£5.9m) moving from the flanks to a number 10 role behind the Serbian. Meanwhile, Luciano Vietto (£5.5m) was pushed back from the front-line into midfield and Ryan Sessegnon (£6.1m) was used on the opposite flank.

The defensive problems look set to continue for the newly-promoted side. Timothy Fosu-Mensah (£4.5m) was taken to hospital with a shoulder injury sustained in the eighth minute while Joe Bryan (£4.9m) has been ruled out for a few weeks with a hamstring problem. That particular absence should probably see Sessegnon return to left-back.

“Bryan has a hamstring problem and will be out for a few weeks. Timothy has a shoulder problem and I cannot give you a clear answer, we must assess him.” – Slavisa Jokanovic

However, the return of central midfielder Tom Cairney (£4.8m) may prove a slight tonic for Jokanovic. He made his return to the side as a 64th-minute substitute at Everton, after being absent since Gameweek 3 with an injury.

“We start to lose the control at the beginning of the game and I am thinking about (Cairney) before they scored the first goal. This is positive news for us to have the opportunity to use him and Tim Ream too. In the end, we must recover our best player in the squad and find a way to use them in the best way.” – Slavis Jokanovic

Everton XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Digne, Zouma, Keane, Kenny; Gueye, Davies; Richarlison (Bernard 88′), Sigurdsson (Schneiderlin 90′), Walcott; Calvert-Lewin (Tosun 55′).

Fulham XI (4-4-1-1): Bettinelli; Bryan, Ream, Odoi, Fosu-Mensah (Christie 8′); Sessegnon, Seri (Ayité 84′), Zambo Anguissa, Vietto (Cairney 64′); Schürrle; Mitrovic.

The headlines are carefully crafted to get a high relevancy rating on search engines, not to be easy to read. This one has FPL, some arsenal players and the recent everton result all in one hard-to-read headline.

    David Silva + Wilson -> Kane + 4.4 mid? (-4)

Is it worth keeping Aguero? Just do Aguero -> Kane for free?

Who's your 4.4m? Real bench fodder or do they have to play at some point?

I alreday have Højbjerg as a fodder. It means I will have to play either Wan Bissaka or Holebas every week, with the one not playing dropping to the bench with Højbjerg and the new 4.4.

How badly are people prioritizing Kane? Is this week's captaincy worth tearing your team up including sacrificing Salah for GW9+?

If you want points you'd give Kane a go, in paper it's very obvious that Kane will outscore Salah this GW and maybe in the next couple of games. Personally I'm going to get him in place of Aguero, it makes a lot of sense. Then again if it goes wrong, that's why we play FPL

      1. Klein

This week yeah. Next couple of weeks not so much. Salah will play hud and cardif after that

A switch back then, Kane's ownership is very high and he has a history of explosiveness when he hits form.

Tough in this situation, got rid of him 3 weeks ago. For me it's a straight switch Kun Kane. If Salah shows something in the next game I could get him back easily. For you it's tough really because a switch will mean a lot of transfers.

It would be very like him to troll and blank or get a small score like 6.

Bringing him now for a hit is only worth it if he gets 12+ points imo. He of course could. Will want to kill myself if he scores a hat trick or more.

This price drop doesn’t affect value (if bought at 6.0) so the seasoned players aren’t bothered. However the next drop does 6.2 to 6.1. This is when you will see a big flurry of transfers.

As the deadline is Friday, he won’t drop twice this week.

Also, the second his red flag is removed he goes to 0% and transfers don’t count for a week. This could really protect his price from climbing back up if people want him back for GW9.

Planning to play 4-4-2 till gw10 WC. Which combo do you prefer for the next 2 gw's only.

A: Robbo Alonso Shaw Awb (with Mendy on bench) + Hazard
      - robbo has a tough fixture in gw8
      - dont have a bench if any of above 4 defenders dont start
      - will do shaw >> xxx in gw9 . but that would still mean starting awb (eve) in gw 9 unless Mendy is back by then
      - Hazard seems essential?

B: Doherty Alonso Shaw Awb (with Robbo on bench) + Salah
      - can bench robbo this gw for his tough fixture in favour of doherty (cpl)
      - have robbo on bench if any of the defenders dont start. worried about shaw's position
      - will do shaw >> xxx in gw9. alonso/doherty/robbo have good fixtures in gw9
      - salah imo has the better fixtures but would prefer hazard however my defence is weaker in option A

I never actually bet the draw on a single bet but will put that in a multiple permed acca i.e win win/drw win win win/drw win win/draw

8 x win sevenfolds @ £1.00 = £8.00..I've had some good payouts with this especially as the draws often pay more.

Palace’s away form bizarrely seems to be better than their home form too. Small sample size & lopsided fixtures aside, it’s not a bad bet. You just never know what the hell youre going to get with Bournemouth.

I’ve Wilson & Fraser so hoping for a very high scoring game either way.

If you’re hunting for value - I’d actually fancy backing against Barca, Madrid, Man Utd, and Bayern this week in the champions league.

They’re all in absolutely stinking form and very short odds. Very rare this type of opportunity comes up with them all out of form so badly, and together.

Spurs, CSKA, Valencia & Ajax all plus one or something of that ilk in doubles or trebles, really fancy a few upsets out of those 4.

Asking again because I think it's genuinely an interesting question.

What's more important to you: getting a bad player out or getting a good player in?

My example is last week I had Milner + Lukaku and 1FT. I decided to get my "bad" player out in Milner > Richarlison instead of doing Lukaku > Kane which is to prioritize the good player.

Obviously you can do both and are supposed to, but there are situations where you often have to choose between getting rid of the likes of Mendy or swapping out a mediocre Salah/Mane for a player becoming essential like Hazard.

Getting a good player in, you can usually ride out a bad player in your team with subs or even play them for a GW or 2.

      2. Yoshioka
        • 7 Years
        7 years, 6 months ago

It depends how much money is tied up in the bad player and whether you feel compelled to keep playing him, and of course the ideal scenario is to just trade him for the good player, but if I had to choose exclusively between the two I would always prioritise getting the good player in. I can always just bench the bad player or stomach his minimal returns, but I'll always be ruing not grabbing what seemed like obvious points.

Situational for me really. Sometimes it not really about being a bad player, but I'd rather have someone who is playing, getting minutes etc than sitting there getting fat zeros.
Also, the rate which the player finds their way out my team depends heavily on their price tag. Anything over 7+ whom is doing badly, under performing or plain not playing finds themselves on the express shuttle to transferville.
Like wise, if someone is on form, good fixtures and price rises I can't avoid, I'll do best to get them in.

        tldr: situational for me

There are degrees . . . When you're talking about a player like Hazard that is a long term "essential", I would say that's more important (providing you're not sacrificing someone ridiculous!). More generally I would rather be getting rid of an injured player that I know will score me 0 than swapping around players with marginally more potential. This week for example I *could* swap Mane for a player more likely to score, but I could just as easily end up bringing in a lesser scoring player. But a move like Mandy to Trippier has far more potential upside.

Depends on value/importance to the squad - Peltier can sit there injured all season on my bench for me. But I had planned to do Ings > Vardy this GW, plans changed and I finally had to bite the bullet on Mane > Hazard instead, so I guess that answers your question.

Opportunity cost of ignoring the good player is worse. I would ride out having stinkers if you can get on the high scoring new players.

Only just got around to looking at my actual standings (primarily as there is a game tonight with 3 players playing).

Last week I ended up OR just over 12k apparently just 2 points off 10k according to Gargatron.

A very average 45 points and OR drops like a stone to 38K+

Can be very cruel in that top 50Kish bracket. Hopefully a wee flurry of points and I can regain some ground.

For Liverpool's juicy run are people going with:
      a) 2 Pool defenders, 1 attacker (e.g. Robbo, TAA, Salah) or
      b) 1 Pool defender, 2 attackers (e.g. Robbo, Mane, Salah) or
      c) less than 3 Pool
I'm stuck between a and b, think 3 players is definitely needed between GW 9 and 10!

Yeah I was leaning towards a as well, but WCing so may just go all out with b and hope Wolves defenders (vs Watford and Brighton) cover Pool clean sheet points over those two fixtures. I'll probably then do double transfer to go to b for the rest of their run.

0 ITB / 0 FT (already on -4 as made the Kane transfer to miss the price rise)

Current setup, Dilva and Mendy both risky but not the worst bench options...

      Thoughts? Should I Wildcard?

      Thanks

A Wilson Hattie and an AWB no show isn't too much to ask for is it

H2H or just in general for your OR?

my H2H has come down to; him: WanBis + 6pts vs me: PvA, Fraser & Zaha... slightly confident but not really 🙂

Honestly, I don't know. But right now he's doing more harm than good to the team and i back sterling/man city to deliver more goods

i'm not one of the major stats lads on here but he's getting into positions to score & just not getting it done... surely gonna change & after city those fixtures look sweet.

also with city attacking pool it'll mean plenty of counter attacks.

I just think a lot are taking hits for out but will need hits in when he hits form soon (I hope anyway)

hmmm... i haven't actually confirmed the transfers yet. I'll think about it but i'm running out of patience with Salah.

He has received 0 bonus points this entire season. Unless he scores 2+ goals his ceiling is 8 points. And he's not looking like he's gonna score 2+ goals many times this season. Hazard, Kane and potentially Sterling all do

Oh dear. This is a classic case of where real life football bias makes fans make poor FPL choices.

Removing two good players, Fraser proving exceptional value and hasn’t even played yet this GW for Özil is nuts.

I can tell you first hand that bias influences many, many of my FPL decisions

Yeah clearly but it’s not always bad. Your faith in Lacazette has been a good move for you.

Sport - what's your overall rank in the game? I'm intrigued...

      Ederson
      Alonso - Robbo - Bennett - Shaw
      Hazard - Salah - Fraser
      Aguero(c) - Zaha - Mitrovic

      Fabi - WanB - Højbjerg - Kante

I have 2 free transfers, stick or twist?

Might as well use at least one of them. Suspect you might want to move Zaha on given the good Wolves defence and upcoming difficult fixtures, although Everton defence is suspect so maybe mileage in holding another 2 GWs, as well as seeing what he does tonight.

Perhaps look into Brighton assets even if to strengthen the bench for coming weeks - Knockaert, Duffy and Murray? Good run of fixtures coming up and those 3 players are under the radar and started well.

Would appreciate your comments on my post below too. Cheers

If you think your team is alright but you still have your WC, when is the right time to play it?

I currently feel every GW I need only 2 transfers at most to fix my team.. So I wonder when shall I play my WC..

Plenty of time to go yet until the deadline for using it so just wait and see what comes around the corner.

i'm holding as long as possible. once i'm happy with my team then why waste it when it may be huge come xmas with the fixtures flying etc.

a hit or 2 is nothing but if every week you're in trouble & also think is this just bad planning & foresight i.e. will a WC really change this or will you just be looking a week or 2 ahead instead of 5/6 weeks ahead

For anyone panicking about Kane and looking for reasons to steer clear

Since he broke into the squad he's averaged

~ .5 goals per game against Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Liverpool and United
~ 1 goal per game against the remainder of the league

Following Cardiff Kane has 4/6 away games. His two home games are MCI and CHE at home and he faces ars away, and wol/cpl/whu, none of which are pushovers at the moment.

If you already own Kane then great, keep him, cap him, but if you don't then beyond the CAR GW8 I think there's really a strong case to not panic

I own Kane but I agree he’s not anywhere near as essential as what people are making out. He’s a good options but people shouldn’t be wrecking their teams to get him in.

As you point out, the defences he is coming up against in the away matches have been fairly decent recently.

I am strongly considering Kane after either 8 or 9 to fund Liverpool investment and then back in when the fun really begin for him around GW15

not sure there will necessarily be a drought or anything, but I do think money spent elsewhere in a team will not leave non-owners disadvantaged and so panicking and making rash moves to get him is probably inadvisable

At a bit of a crossroads here guys, hoping someone could help me out! Gone from 8k OR to 16k this GW, under a bit of pressure in my mini-league.

I've seen a few people mention free hit this week - it's something I've thought about but ultimately it needs to be kept. Looking to get Spurs in and avoid City and Liverpool to then restock later so thinking a Wildcard at GW9 is the way to go.

My team with 1FT and 0.1mITB

      Alisson
      Alonso, Vertonghen, Robertson, Boly, AWB
      Hazard, Mane, BSilva, Jorginho, Maddison
      Zaha, Aguero, Deeney

For one week only to capture Kane vs Cardiff, with wildcard following and a switch back to Aguero:

      A) Aguero and Robertson to Kane and Mee (-4)
      B) Aguero and Mane to Kane and Son (-4)
      C) A and B combined for -8
      D) go Free Hit to go heavy on Spurs and others with favourable fixtures

Problem is that I'm struggling to come up with better wildcard changes to maximise Liverpool, City whilst keeping Hazard and not weakening the overall team. I want Vertonghen, Zaha out, possibly AWB but he's cheap so 3rd sub, Jorginho, Deeney, and possibly Mane although fixtures are very good. Problem is getting rid of all those leads to potentially sideways moves.

      Any thoughts?

You could have a great team long term with one or two changes.
I would suck up the fact that you may not get a massive score this week and look to make a move which is better for the long term.
i imagine you will want Aguero and Mane next week so maybe just DSilva to Son this week.
