It’s all about Harry Kane in the world of Fantasy Premier League this week, and with good reason.

In this latest article I’ll be giving my thoughts on whether he’s worth signing for Gameweek 8 as well as touching on a few other areas.

They include Manchester City rotation and my plans for budget options in defence and attack.

To Kane or not to Kane?

Kane is the standout captaincy option in the final Gameweek before the dreaded international break as Spurs host Cardiff. A brace against Huddersfield last week and a goal against the mighty Barcelona on Wednesday night has FPL managers ripping up their teams to fit him in.

Will he send his backers into the break buzzing or will he frustrate in a so called ‘easy fixture’ like he has done many times before? Is he back to his best or is it chasing last week’s points?

Whether you’re on the Kane train or not, Saturday’s game at Wembley is sure to be entertaining.

When I finish typing this, I’m going to hoover my living room, paying more attention than usual to the area behind the couch because that’s where I’ll be from 3pm to 5pm on Saturday.

As much as I’d like to own Kane and captain him this weekend, I don’t want to lose Eden Hazard, Mohamed Salah or Sergio Aguero to do so. Spurs have a tricky run of fixtures after the Cardiff match and he hasn’t passed my eye test yet this season.

The David Silva myth

There’s a belief among some in the FPL community that David Silva can’t play three games in a week because a ‘source’ claiming to be ‘close to the player’ said so. This information came out when the Spaniard was rested for the Cardiff game. Since then, he’s played three games in seven days against Oxford United, Brighton and Hoffenheim.

Like the Sergio Aguero fiasco in Gameweek 2, the lesson here is to trust your instincts rather than those of others who claim to be ‘in the know’. I expect to see Silva’s name on the City team sheet for the Liverpool game on Sunday. He’s pivotal for them while Kevin De Bruyne is out, and he’s got two weeks to put his feet up afterwards, having retired from international football.

That said, even though I think he’ll play this weekend, Silva could be the makeweight in a double move I make to improve my strike force. Five games without a goal for Callum Wilson has me worried and losing patience. I’m eyeing up Marko Arnautovic to replace him with Richarlison coming in for Silva.

The Holebas roller coaster

As the clock ticked past eighty minutes at the Emirates on Saturday, Holebas was looking good for an unlikely clean sheet and three bonus points. It was too good to be true. He’s now scored me a grand total of two points from three matches since I brought him in after accumulating thirty-four points in the opening four Gameweeks.

I’ll be taking another ride on the Holebas roller coaster this week, so you can be certain that he’ll pick up his fifth yellow card of the season after Callum Wilson wipes out his clean sheet!

Good luck to all in Gameweek 8 and stay strong during the international break.

You can follow the FPL General on Twitter HERE. He has achieved three top 500 finishes in the last four seasons.

Very good team, you’ll be wanting a Liverpool attacking asset next week onwards though.

I think Pereyra’s time is done for now too. Knockaert? Then use the extra money to get Doherty or Jonny for Bennett.

I really enjoy FFS site. I also find these websites (suggested on here so many times by helpful folk) very interesting with data, stat, and more:

What other useful sites do u use to analyse data, monitor mini league opponents and check for potential price rises etc ?

He does bring in some nice 5s and 7s with regularity but I think Arnie can bring in some 12 and 15s, maybe not every week but it will happen.

      Agreed.

Any team losing to Barcelona is thoroughly disgraceful.

Hold on their chief...."heroes"???? That's the word he used. Lloris didnt look to heroic to me , neither did dembele or a vast majority of the team who made error after error . Two years ago he wouldn't have said that but now the bar is that bit lower for spurs....

Coming back from a drink driving scandal to play against Barca...whilst clearly still drunk is pretty heroic.

...just a joke, nothing funny about drink driving...or oxymorons.

Dembele is injured and wasn't playing.

I'm not claiming anyone is a hero, but they worked very hard second half and were somehow only a goal down in the last 5 minutes.

Many mistakes yes, I don't think their effort could be faulted.

Sorry meant sissoko when he came on , not dembele...it was a good second half effort but id be worried the way pocche is dressing this up to be more valiant than it was, they were torn apart with pass after pass from deep and it wasn't just messi... lloris charging off his line like rene higuita on speed..winks and lamella put in effort as did kane but what were that back line doing??

            1. how now brown cow
              • 11 Years

Sanchez and lloris made too many mistakes.

The issue to me was without dembele and eriksen we didn't keep the ball well enough.

Throw in no vert or dele and the lack of strength in depth was exposed.

He tried to press them from the off and it left the defence exposed. Ter stegen was unflappable unlike Hugo.

Got to put it in perspective though. It's Barcelona and we were missing 4 of our most influential players.

Messi in particular was astounding to see in the flesh for the first time.

Any thoughts on thoughts on this? I'm really swinging from one decision to the other by the hour 😆

    A. Aguero & Zaha - > Kane & Jimenez (2Fts)

    B. Zaha - > Arnautovic (Save 2nd FT)

Tough call. As you have 2FT's it might be worth bringing Kane in for this weekend, I think I would if I had 2FT's but sticking with Aguero as don't want to take him out for a points hit

I'd be surprised to see any of them benched for the City game, but quite possible, and indeed likely, that we see some rotation in the 'easier' games after the IB.
I guess only TAA will be the only one getting some time off over the IB....as in playing time.

    Hart

Maddison Hazard Son Yarmalenko(Considering Willian instead)
    Vardy Kane Arnie

    Subs; Hamer, Lennon, Wan-Bissaka, Bennett

Klopp has some decisions to make for Sunday after what was probably the most toothless performance of his reign.

If Sunday's game wasn't Man City, I would be sure there would've been changes at fullback, midfield and in attack.

Seeing as it's City, he's probably going to go for the tried and tested and maybe make 1 midfield change. Maybe even put Salah CF with Firmino as an inside forward.

Shaqiri deserves to be in the XI at this moment IMO and the quicker Henderson gets perma dropped, the better.

Ouch, damning verdict on Henderson. I've always thought whilst not being especially good himself, he allows others to shine.

Salah seems to be trying a little too hard to replicate his goal scoring achievements of last season, shooting in situations where a pass is the better option.

On another note, I can't wait for the Liv/City game, hoping for a classic.

Points over value. If Kane gets you more than 20 points as captain for example, which is very plausible, you wouldn't care about the 0.2 you lose out on. You gain points.

Take out Ings and play AWB (instead of Vertonghen) or get rid of Vertonghen and play Ings??

I'd probably play AWB this week over Ings. Is Vert definitely out?

Bench: Doherty - AWB - placeholder

Original team have only Alonso and Hazard from this lot and 1 FT.

Personally I'd save the free hit for a week with blank fixtures or DGW
