It’s all about Harry Kane in the world of Fantasy Premier League this week, and with good reason.

In this latest article I’ll be giving my thoughts on whether he’s worth signing for Gameweek 8 as well as touching on a few other areas.

They include Manchester City rotation and my plans for budget options in defence and attack.

To Kane or not to Kane?

Kane is the standout captaincy option in the final Gameweek before the dreaded international break as Spurs host Cardiff. A brace against Huddersfield last week and a goal against the mighty Barcelona on Wednesday night has FPL managers ripping up their teams to fit him in.

Will he send his backers into the break buzzing or will he frustrate in a so called ‘easy fixture’ like he has done many times before? Is he back to his best or is it chasing last week’s points?

Whether you’re on the Kane train or not, Saturday’s game at Wembley is sure to be entertaining.

When I finish typing this, I’m going to hoover my living room, paying more attention than usual to the area behind the couch because that’s where I’ll be from 3pm to 5pm on Saturday.

As much as I’d like to own Kane and captain him this weekend, I don’t want to lose Eden Hazard, Mohamed Salah or Sergio Aguero to do so. Spurs have a tricky run of fixtures after the Cardiff match and he hasn’t passed my eye test yet this season.

The David Silva myth

There’s a belief among some in the FPL community that David Silva can’t play three games in a week because a ‘source’ claiming to be ‘close to the player’ said so. This information came out when the Spaniard was rested for the Cardiff game. Since then, he’s played three games in seven days against Oxford United, Brighton and Hoffenheim.

Like the Sergio Aguero fiasco in Gameweek 2, the lesson here is to trust your instincts rather than those of others who claim to be ‘in the know’. I expect to see Silva’s name on the City team sheet for the Liverpool game on Sunday. He’s pivotal for them while Kevin De Bruyne is out, and he’s got two weeks to put his feet up afterwards, having retired from international football.

That said, even though I think he’ll play this weekend, Silva could be the makeweight in a double move I make to improve my strike force. Five games without a goal for Callum Wilson has me worried and losing patience. I’m eyeing up Marko Arnautovic to replace him with Richarlison coming in for Silva.

The Holebas roller coaster

As the clock ticked past eighty minutes at the Emirates on Saturday, Holebas was looking good for an unlikely clean sheet and three bonus points. It was too good to be true. He’s now scored me a grand total of two points from three matches since I brought him in after accumulating thirty-four points in the opening four Gameweeks.

I’ll be taking another ride on the Holebas roller coaster this week, so you can be certain that he’ll pick up his fifth yellow card of the season after Callum Wilson wipes out his clean sheet!

Good luck to all in Gameweek 8 and stay strong during the international break.

Do you think Richarlison > Maddison is worth a -4
(straight transfer but used FT already)?

Madd looks great and apart from one match vs ARS, LEI have great fixture run. Whilst Rich has potential to explode, Everton are really not up to scratch.

2 FTs and getting closer to doing the Aguero > Kane move, alongside Mane > Maddison (I have Salah).

Kane just looks too much of an appealing (C) option this week. I could easily get burnt by binning Aguero, especially with BUR to come after, but City play away at Shakhar Donetsk 3 days after the City game so will most likely have reduced minutes.

Salah, although off-form, could still serve as a captaincy option against Huddersfield. Andy my team is reasonably set-up for next week, i.e. I won't missing rolling the 2nd free transfer.

Anyone else tempted for Aguero > Kane as part of 2 FTs or otherwise?

I’m at a loss slightly with what to do with my 2FT’s and £1.2 itb:

    Hart £4m
    Robertson, Shaw, Mendy, AWB, £3.9m
Haz, D. Silva, Mane, Moura, Neves
    Kun, Zaha, Mitro

Silva and Moura worry as both may not play but both have great games his week so could hurt me. Mendy out, Kane in?

    Afternoon all

I've been tinkering with my team which is pretty template and looking at playing my own game (aware this could be disastrous) and have looked at getting the 4 big players everyone is talking about as season keepers.

    Current team
    Henny
    Alonso Robbo Tripper
    Fraser Hazard Salah Wally
    Jimenez Kun Zaha

    Hamer Westwood Holebas AWB

Looking at losing Alonso, Robbo, Wally and Zaha to bring in TAA, Doherty, Hojberg and Kane (£0.0ITB)

Aware that cost isn't really spread evenly around the team and there may be captaincy headaches but I'm covered for the season without having to ditch one big player to bring in another.

    Opinions would be welcomed.

Yes for my biggest hit ever of -12, I've managed to steer clear of them this season and that's why I'm on the fence to make the move or not.

The majority of teams have 2-3 of these players and will be swapping throughout the season. Theoretically I could have the 4 main captaincy options to choose from and if any haul I won't miss out.

That said, point distribution throughout rest of the team may suffer but on paper I do think it looks ok (ish).....

I prefer your current option of Alonso etc. You're downgrading 3 players to upgrade 1 player, and therefore likely down when Kane blanks.

          and with a -12 which I didn't spot, it's absolute madness!

If you really want Kane in then take Aguero and Robertson for something like Kane and Mee (if that works out money-wise). I'd be tempted to then reverse that within 2 GWs to hit Liverpool's good fixtures.

No, I'm going to leave it. I need to weigh up how many points I'm potentially transferring out to how many the transfers in will get and that means mainly relying on Kane to cover every week (if that makes sense)

Anybody else not doing Aguero - > Kane because they don't want to lose 0.2m?

Did Ings to Kane last week.

      Considering it.

But Kane's points potential compared to Aguero's might outweigh the 0.2.

Haven’t ruled it out yet but think I’d rather aguero long term. Il be fuming if I get him in to captain and then he blanks

      But you don't lose 0.2m. 😀

Planning on WC-ing next week and looking at ways to get in Kane for this week. Can do Salah & Ings > Lamela & Kane - 4 which leaves me with:

    Foster
    Alonso / Shaw / Robertson
    Richarlison / Hazard / Lamela / Maddison
    Zaha / Kane / Aguero

    Hamer / Doherty / AWB / Billing

Think Lamela will start as olnly looked like cramp he came off with last night.

    Yes or no?

Get Gundmunsson or Yarmolenko instead of Lamela. If you're going to take a hit for this I'd want to be more sure of getting a starter.

    What you reckon guys?

    a. Mendy + Salah + Mitro to Maguire + Maddison + Kane for -8pts
    b. Salah + Mitro to Maddison + Kane for -4pts
    c. Salah + Ings to 6.0 Mid + Kane for -4pts

    DDG
    robbo trippier AWB
    Haz Salah Fraser Walcott
    Aguero Mitro Ings

    Stek, Hojberg, Mendy, Peltier

C with Knockaert out of those.
But I'd focus on DDG, Mendy and Ings (Walcott) out first though.

so better to do DDG + Mendy for Rui Patrico + Alonso for a hit and wait for Kane?

Liverpool have _those_ attacking fixtures from gw9.
If you ship Salah now I'd consider a WC for GW9 to get Pool guys in

So I was thinking about using my WC for GW9, but that seems a bit unnecessary right?
    Current setup:

    Rio 4.0
    Alonso Robbo Holebas AWB 4.0
    Salah Hazard Walcott Fraser Westwood
    Kane Arnie Mitro

I want Vardy and/or Maddison for the Leicester run. Maybe TTA for 3x Liverpool. Most likely Walcott out.
My team doesn't look WC worthy does it?
