The final Premier League fixture before the October international break takes place at 16:30 BST – and what a match it promises to be.

Liverpool versus Manchester City is perhaps the most anticipated clash of the season so far, with plenty of Fantasy interest in assets from both sides.

Despite suffering over 210,000 sales and a price drop in Fantasy Premier League this week, Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) is still owned by more than one in two Fantasy managers and has actually been captained by more FPL bosses than Eden Hazard (£11.2m) this weekend.

Aguero leads the line for City again this afternoon in a side that shows three changes from the team that started the win over Brighton in Gameweek 7.

John Stones (£5.3m) replaces Nicolas Otamendi (£6.1m) at centre-back, but the more noteworthy alterations to Pep Guardiola’s starting XI come on the left flank.

Benjamin Mendy (£6.2m), who has suffered over 1,375,000 sales in FPL since missing out in Gameweek 5, returns at left-back, with Oleksandr Zinchenko (£4.8m) missing out.

Mendy’s inclusion, as has often been the case in the past, means that Leroy Sane (£9.2m) drops to the bench, with Riyad Mahrez (£8.6m) coming into the side. Raheem Sterling (£11.1m), it is assumed, will move over to the left flank to play as an inverted winger in Sane’s stead.

Kevin De Bruyne (£9.7m) was rumoured to be in contention for this fixture but is not even among the City substitutes this afternoon. Ilkay Gundogan (£5.6m) also misses out with a hamstring complaint.

Mohamed Salah (£12.8m), Sadio Mane (£9.9m) and Roberto Firmino (£9.4m) all start for the Reds and indeed there is only one change to the starting XI from the side that drew with Chelsea last weekend: Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.2m), who put in a sub-par display against Napoli in midweek, is replaced by Dejan Lovren (£4.9m).

Joe Gomez (£5.1m) will presumably move across to right-back in Alexander-Arnold’s absence.

Naby Keita (£7.3m) has recovered from a back spasm to take his place in the home dugout, meanwhile.

This fixture features the four most-sold FPL players of Gameweek 8: Salah, Mendy, Aguero and Mane.

Aguero and Liverpool’s front three all registered attacking returns in this corresponding fixture last season, with the hosts running out 4-3 winners in a thrilling match.

No Premier League club has registered more clean sheets than Liverpool and City (four each) this season, though, while City have conceded fewer “big chances” than any other top-flight side. Jurgen Klopp’s side have themselves only allowed six clear-cut opportunities.

Liverpool XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Gomez, van Dijk, Lovren, Robertson; Milner, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Mane, Salah, Firmino.

Manchester City XI (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Stones, Laporte, Mendy; Fernandinho, Silva, Bernardo; Mahrez, Sterling, Aguero.

    Hi,

    Please choose:

    1) Mendy & Firmino

    or

    2) TAA & Aguero

    for GW9

    Thanks

2 aguero with two week rest. Will firmino be travelling to South America over the IB?

I'm not sure about Firmino but I do think he will join the Brazil squad as Jesus is not performing at the moment. Is it ok to select Sturidge as an alternative? I think he will get more minutes during UCL period.

Strange decision to break up the Gomez-van Dijk partnership, although clean sheet might suggest otherwise.

Any advice what to do here? I have 2 FTs. Plan was to do Trippier > TAA and double up on Liverpool defense. Seen he was dropped.

Might be injuries to come and the wildcard could prove a mastersroke. Make sure you get in all the players you can who look like they might double rise as well and maybe make a bit of money.

      Exactly the same for me.

I want Mitrovic who has fixtures but not sure of form.
Liverpool and City but assets didn't convince me. Could've easily gotten away with a week or two.

Im considering 5 at the back again with Alonso, Mendy, TAA, Robertson and Doherty. Just need to do awb to Robbo and the quartet is complete. Thoughts? Great value at the back and several big hitters in midfield and up top doesnt seem necessary.

I'm considering something very similar - Alonso, Mendy, Robertson, Yedlin and Doherty

Yedlin's run of fixtures is amazing.

        TAA a rotation risk now?

        1. stat
            7 years, 6 months ago

Also to get that defence I'd be doing AWB + Pedro -> Robbo + Elneny (fodder - or Gunnarson if he drops) for a hit

          • Brosstan
            • 11 Years
            7 years, 6 months ago

TAA could be a rotation risk but I dont think its a big problem because by prioritizing money in defense and having 5 starters be defenders theres a lot of money left over and its pretty easy to have solid mid priced options in midfield ready to come on in case of rotation.

I'd still want to cover Doherty's poorest fixtures with another player. You'll need a strong first sub anyway imo with Mendy and TAA rotation risks

        4. Paul Psychic Octopus
          • 15 Years

Certainly four at the back must be the way to go. I assume most have three premiums already, and AWB's fixtures now turn coyote ugly.

How many more games are Salah owners giving him? A busy schedule full of big games is finally behind Liverpool as their fixtures ease. I've had him since GW1 and think he deserves at least 2-3 games to see if he can convert his chances. If not it may be time to downgrade down to the likes of KDB/Sterling.

What are your thoughts from those who have him currently?

My friend had same dilemma. He isnt good fpl player so he was feeling bad wasting one of free transfers. I first told him let it go as wilson mane are fine for this gw. But then he brought in Kane (c) and Knocheart. Cost him 30points as he had haz c and wilson exploded

Got lucky break with Haz c as entire team blanked.
Want to check whether Mcity has imp match after Burnly. If yes then probably Salah c vs Hud

So KDB will back. Will he play 90mins? I would sacrifice Maddison+Schürrle for him.

Reckon lots of 50-60 minutes. If Man City 2-0, 3-0 up Pep will ease his game time. It's not as if there aren't any replacements.

Was Ins decent? As stats show he missed a big chance and had in target attempts...Thoughts as else may knee jerk jiminez/wilson in 😉

I shipped him for previous week.

Ask yourself this question, if you played your wc, or were starting afresh, how many of those players would you pick?
