Richard Clarke is among an elite core of managers who have topped our Hall of Fame, which is based on the career achievements of those in our Fantasy Premier League mini-leagues.

He achieved this momentous feat just last month and after since slipping to 11th spot he is keen to once again return to the summit and secure his ambition of being number one when the season ends.

In the latest in our Meet the Manager video series he reveals how he plans to see off the competition and discusses the strategies that have earned him such incredible success over his 12 previous campaigns.

With seven top 10,000 finishes, including last season’s 263rd and a 303rd rank in 2011/13, he is a competitor that cannot be underestimated. In fact, he is yet to have a poor season, with 2015/16’s end rank of 32,547th his ‘worst’ to date.

Richard (FPL team link here) discusses the importance of keeping tabs on elite managers and the season ticker. He also reveals how analysing probability can ensure managers make their own luck.

This season’s trends are also discussed, as he reveals which heavy hitter he is looking to shun on his upcoming Wildcard and how the tried and tested ‘eye-test’ let him down badly last weekend.

The chat with Richard is available to view on Youtube here and in the embedded video below.

The first Meet the Manager video, featuring Triggerlips, can be viewed here, while the second, featuring Philman, can be seen here. Last week’s episode, featuring Will Thomas, is available here.

    GW11: Fraser to Maddison

    Bottomed on previous page

    I can do Stephens/Kane >> Hazard/Jimenez (-4) to get the following team for gw9:

    Patricio -- Foster
    Alonso • Robbo • Doherty • Shaw --- Awb*
    Salah • Rich • Maddison • Hazard -- Camarassa
    Kun • King • Jimnez

    - Looks decent..covers most bases but i dont like my strikers (king/jimenez)..would prefer arnie/mitro
    - Dont particularly like taking a hit to bring in hazard over kane who on paper has an easier fixture esp as i wont captain hazard
    - will WC in gw14/15

Alternatively, i could keep Kane in gw9 and wildcard in gw10 to bring in haz, arnie, mitro etc. see below potential gw10 WC team
    Ryan • Fabianski
    Alonso • TAA • Doherty • Yedlin • AWB
    Salah • Hazard • Maddison • Knockart • Hojberg
    Arnie • Mitro • Kun

Is playing the market during IB in order to make money a myth ?

I had exact cash to do 2 early transfers on Sunday night, bringing in Murray & Jonny. I did it early beacasue at the time they were both around 96-97% mark on fplstats, few days later they are still in the same spot.
I wanted these players anyway so it dosent bother me at all but I guess those who activated WC to "make money" might feel different about it.

    1. MTPockets
      7 years, 9 months ago

Increasingly so yeah. Prices seem a lot more driven by articles/twitter bandwagons these days, which dies down for about 10 days.

    2. ShaunGoater123

I think it's not just making money through players that go up but trying to dodge if you have any that are going down. For example Salah this week, if you were planning on doing your wildcard and activated it on Friday then you dodged his drop and can get him back for a little cheaper.

Then I guess it comes down to any double risers, of which there aren't many these days. That being said if you get in someone who doesn't quite go up but then they have 1 good week you stand a chance of getting your double rise that way. For example looks like Murray will rise once this week, then if he does well against Newcastle he'll likely rise again in the next gameweek ahead of his good run

Basically, you can't make money on a IB wildcard like you used to be able to, but still think there is value to be made over a 2 gameweek spell

Wilson is another one who may rise once this week, then again next week IF he scores.

Haz may rise a second time.

Very difficult to make a profit by buying and selling over the ITB. You do have a better chance of catching some price rises / avoiding falls for those players you actually want in your team. There will be lots of activity just before deadline as per a normal GW.

        yep agreed.

You aren't going to come out of it with an extra 0.5m in your bank compared to where you were, but you can get yourself in a position that you have a bunch of players either in a streak or looking like they are going on one of which in another week or two's time they might be an extra 0.2-0.3 to buy

    4. Baps Hunter

This ib looks bad for money game, since bandwagons like Mitro, Maddison or Fraser have blanked during last couple games. Laca probably only player to rise .2. Yet, if popular players get long term injuries, things may change.

And there is some kind of confusion at the market imo. Salah and Mané not in form, but fixture change. Pick the wrong and fear price drop if the other braces.

That's an exciting squad. Upgrading Kamara will not be a problem since we have lot of options in 6.5 to 7 price bracket

It's the preseason template that succeeded. WanB, Mendy, Kun, all doing well early on.

That is actually a decent article and does show cause for optimism. Hmm. Think I still prefer Arnie.

I dunno there's stiff competition in the "best picture staring a wwe wrestler" category this year.

Salah (with Wilson/Murray) or Mane & Firmino?

Salah, would be make the captaincy decision easy, but it's 12.8m for someone who's not firing like last year. Quite a few of the shots that used to fly in, he now seems to be firing wide or straight at the keeper. Then there's the penalty dilemma. All 3 of Salah, Mane and Firmino could be on them, so owning both the latter doubles your chances.

Salah + 6.5/7 would also mean an extra transfer, to really hit the sweet fixtures eg. Wilson (SOU, ful) to Murray onwards. Murray has new, WOL for the next 2, and those won't be easy high scoring games. Liverpool have great fixtures coming up for a while, so Mane + Firmino could well be 2 set and forget assets.

Liverpool has an easy CL fixture up next, so there's little risk of rotation/limited minutes for all of the 3.

Last but not least, there's nothing so far this season to suggest Salah will outperform Mane in terms of FPL points.

I'm sure there's a few of you with similar dilemmas and it would be great to hear your thoughts.

I have money ITB and have a vast array of choices spinning around in my head as I only have Robertson from Liverpool and City, thinking of the following instead of Ralls & Kane :

      Aguero & Mane
Wilson & Mane to free up funds for KDB/Sterling later on
      Wilson & Salah
      Firmino & Sterling
      Firmino & KDB

Or just keep Ralls and Shift Shaw for TAA.

Teach me for getting rid of liverpool and city assets...

I think I might just wait and see. I have ditched both Salah and Mané for a reason.

      Salah -18.1% and -100k already
      Mané -68.2%
      Firmino -90.8%

No points next week and price drop coming for any of them who failes. Yet if any of them braces, it means new bandwagon.

I was secrety hoping they'd drop during the break, but I'm more interested in being ahead of the curve on this one. Serious points potential in the next 2 games. I also started the season with both Salah and Mane which served me well. Also ditched them at the right time. Now it seems like the moment to get them back with those fixtures

Ditching only for price drop is a bit harsh. If not on wc.

    Hennessey Hamer
    Alonso Shaw* Doherty Robertson AWB
    Salah Hazard Maddison Fraser* Höjberg
    Kane Mitro Jimenez
    1ft. 0,5 itb.
Got Kane last week and have to dig out of this hole.
Fraser probably all right but Shaw has to go very soon.
Kane can maybe stay for West Ham. First thinking is save of nothing serious happens in the break.
Hate taking hits unless injuries or deep trouble. Any ideas?

Vardy in my view based on shots he is getting on target. Maddison moves out wider with Iheanacho playing
