A week of international fixtures gets underway today, with two African Cup of Nations qualifiers and a cluster of friendlies kicking off a nervy period in which we keep our fingers crossed in the hope of our Fantasy assets returning to England unscathed.

This article gives a club-by-club rundown on which assets will be away from their sides during this period, also detailing the dates in which these players will be competing for their respective countries.

There are four players in action in the early hours of Wednesday, October 17 who then face a long-haul flight back from the Americas: Alexis Sanchez (£10.0m), DeAndre Yedlin (£4.5m), Davinson Sanchez (£5.8m) and Raul Jimenez (£5.6m).

Davinson was among the substitutes in Spurs’ Premier League match against Liverpool immediately after the September international break, though Yedlin was thrust straight back into the Newcastle United starting XI for the visit of Arsenal. Alexis Sanchez sat out Chile’s previous two fixtures last month, while Jimenez was recalled early by Wolves as a precautionary measure in plenty of time ahead of Gameweek 5.

Manchester United are in action in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday, October 20, so it remains to be seen whether Alexis features from the start against Chelsea after his exertions in Mexico next Wednesday morning. Jimenez and Wolves, meanwhile, take on Watford at 3pm on that same Saturday.

The good news for owners of Fantasy assets playing for Brazil and Argentina is that their meeting on Tuesday, October 16 will take place in Saudi Arabia, meaning an earlier-than-usual finish time for the likes of Roberto Firmino (£9.4m), Alisson (£5.6m), Ederson (£5.7m), Richarlison (£6.8m), Lucas Moura (£7.4m) and Roberto Pereyra (£6.2m) and a shorter flight back to the UK.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.7m), Mohamed Salah (£12.8m), Sadio Mane (£9.9m), Wilfried Zaha (£7.0m) and Son Heung-min (£8.3m) are among the FPL players who are in action in Africa and Asia next Tuesday, meanwhile.

Sergio Aguero (£11.3m), Alexandre Lacazette (£9.6m), Aymeric Laporte (£5.7m) and Benjamin Mendy (£6.2m) are some of the more notable “uninjured” players who won’t feature for their respective national teams over the coming week.

General Question: is Aubameyang being overlooked a bit?

He has returns in the past 4 out of 5.

Has scored 37 points over those 5 games versus someone like Kun who has scored 28. He has also outscored both the Bournemouth boys, Mitro, Kane, Arnie, Lukaku over that span.

    Lowish cost at 10.7.

I understand he starts on the wing, but he definitely drifts into the center a la Salah.

Main argument I see against him is Lacazette for 1.1 cheaper...but hey, why not have both?

It'd cost me about 16 points to adjust my team.

Aye, I imagine team structure might be one of the biggest factors keeping him off many teams

      Laca > Auba for me.

Prefer City or Pool double ups if going for it over Arsenal.

Yeah, double up on Arsenal is risky. Pool and City are definitely higher scoring overall but the the goals/assists seem to be less concentrated at those two than over at Arsenal. Will look up some stats on this when back from my drive to confirm

Had Auba up until last week when I shifted to Laca. Have no doubt is a better player and will get more points but value wise I’m gonna stick with Laca

“... main argument I see against him ... “. For me the main argument against him is Emery. I’m not confident that he knows how he wants to use him yet. Love Auba though.

First name on my team sheet this season. Stuck with him a week too long, should have sold GW7 but finally did the switch to bring Hazard in for GW8! Typical! Only way I could get Haz in but just knew Auba would come good at some point. I still might get him back if/when I move on Salah, Mane or Aguero.

Nice but I'd captain a form player over a player who is arguably out of form, albeit Pool have had some tough fixtures. Armband on Kun for me assuming he is well rested and fit at the end of the IB.

At some point you'll need a FT on Hart.. Heaton and McGoalface keeping him on his toes..

          That’s fair assumption
Whilst salah is still getting the most chances, they really work as a trio. Don’t think there’s an obvious standout between the 3 and most people are going off last season which is basically unrepeatable
Think it was ~630 points between them last season

With so much rotation I think I playing bench is vital. I'd probably down grade Firmino and upgrade 5th mid with a little cash itb to make changes in the coming weeks.

      Salah + Wilson for me.

Having 3 legitimate captaincy options in Salah, Hazard and Aguero just makes life easier. I don't rate Mane as a captaincy option, his output is just too erratic and his current form (at least stats wise) is bad.

Doherty in a 4-4-2, he is the best Wolves option imo, he will be involved in plenty of Wolves goals with the added bonus of clean sheets (and will get bonus points if he has any goal involvement). He plays oop so is great value even now still.

I personally do not like to double up on defence, but others have double Wolves and it has worked out last few weeks. They are very good in defence, but 1 goal let in means a lot of lost points. Would be ok for now though, and maybe consider changing Pat to someone like Fab or Ryan in a week or 2?

So most of Liverpool's team is playing in internationals, and several key attacking players have fairly long hauls back on the 17th. Shaqiri has one more days rest, Sturridge a complete rest. And Huddersfield's moreorless entire first team is laid up for two weeks.

This is one of those things about which people on the podcast could be saying 'Well in retrospect the signs...'

Feel like taking a big hit for a -12 hit. Already used ft:
Kane out - Aguero or Lacazette (still undecided) in
    Trippier out - Robertson in
Holebas out - Mendy or TAA (Liv fixtures scream def. double up) in

    Will give me:

    Patricio (Hennessey)
    Alonso, Robertson, Mendy/TAA, Doherty (Bennett)
Salah, Hazard (c), Fraser (Maddison, Billing)
    Aguero/Lacazette, Mitrovic, Wilson

I was thinking Lacazette for gw's 9 & 10 then swapping to Aguero in gw11.

You would think that the Egyptian FA would keep that information in house and not leak it?

Liverpool are right,he does look like a player that has just run out of steam and needs a few weeks to recharge the battery's.Even if Egypt give him a break he might also need some time off or at the very least reduced minutes for the next game or two.

      1. MTPockets
        7 years, 9 months ago

Ragabolly will know better, but from what I've read the Egyptian FA is quite political and Salah considered more than just a good footballer. This is a good example of why I'm indifferent about these internationals (from previous discussion).

It is fair to say that Salah has a lot of unnecessary weight on his shoulders but that is part of the course when you are a huge global star and by far Egypt's biggest star.

The international thing is a double edged sword and in some cases. When a country has a huge star on its hands and they are carrying the hopes and wishes of the nation they can sometimes crumble under that weight.Roy Keane for us Irish is a good example of this or Beckham making a stupid move in that game against Argentina at the WC for the English.

I have seen that video alright and it just goes to show how superstardom can be such a burden and how everyone wants a bite of the cherry of such a huge star but these vultures will keep going until there is noting left to give.

Looking at Salah during the first eight fixtures of this season he looks a different man and does not look as happy about his football as he once did but this could change fast after a bit of rest and recuperation and a few goals.

B (potential WC team from gw10)
    Ryan • Fabianki
    Alonso • TAA • Mendy • Doherty • Bennett
    Salah • Hazard • Maddison • Knockart • Hojberg
    Firmino • Arnie • Mitro

If i dont WC in gw10, the only other time to use it will be in gw15 when spurs fixtures improve for the better. There arent any other major fixture swings and i can easily get spurs cover with 2FT's come gw15 so might as well set my team up in gw10 for the long run.

    Thoughts?

I prefer team A but would be WCing now or next week just for the sake of the fixture swings. Just make a better team 🙂

As you said gw 15 is the next point but its just one team so easy to do without a WC.
