Vokes and Brooks continue FPL form on international duty

Sam Vokes and David Brooks are the headline act in our latest Scout Notes article.

The pair were involved in Wales’ solitary goal against Spain in a 4-1 thrashing, but that comes off the back of recent form in Fantasy Premier League.

Their match was one of four international friendlies played on Thursday.

Turkey 0-0 Bosnia and Herzegovina

Caglar Söyüncü (£5.0m) – 90 minutes
Cenk Tosun (£6.7m) – 45 minutes

Asmir Begovic (£4.5m) – 45 minutes

Caglar Söyüncü may be without a single Premier League minute since joining Leicester City in the summer, but he continues to prove his worth to the Turkey national team. The centre-back played 90 minutes in this 0-0 draw with Bosnia. With Wes Morgan (£4.5m) suspended for the next two matches, Söyüncü and Jonny Evans (£4.9m) are the potential replacements.

Cenk Tosun featured only as a second-half substitute for Turkey, while Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic also came on at the interval for Bosnia.

Iraq 0-4 Argentina

Sergio Romero (£5.0m) – 90 minutes
Roberto Pereyra (£6.2m) – 45 minutes

An Argentina side still without Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) were comfortable winners over Iraq.

The impact on FPL was also minimal with Manchester United’s reserve goalkeeper Sergio Romero playing the whole match, and Roberto Pereyra getting 45 minutes in the second-half.

However, the Watford did end his goal-drought, which stretches back to Gameweek 3, with his 53rd-minute strike.

Meanwhile, Nicolas Otamendi (£6.1m) was absent from the matchday squad despite being included in the latest selection. There does not appear to be any sort of injury. He could well be involved when Argentina face Brazil in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

Wales 1-4 Spain

Wayne Hennessey (£4.6m) – 90 minutes
Ben Davies (£5.6m) – 62 minutes
Ethan Ampadu (£4.4m) – 50 minutes
Sam Vokes (£5.3m) – 90 minutes
Aaron Ramsey (£7.4m) – 90 minutes
David Brooks (£5.0m) – 45 minutes
Andy King – 40 minutes

David De Gea (£5.9m) – 45 minutes
Cesar Azpilicueta (£6.4m) – 63 minutes
Álvaro Morata (£8.7m) – 90 minutes
Kepa Arrizbalaga (£5.5m) – 45 minutes
Jonny Castro (£4.5m) – 27 minutes

Sam Vokes will be hoping his latest international goal will see him continue his run of four consecutive league starts for Burnley. However, it did come at the end of Wales’ mauling at the hands of Spain.

Bournemouth’s David Brooks, with back-to-back league goals for the first time in his career after Gameweek 8, provided the assist in a 45-minute appearance.

Tottenham’s Ben Davies was used as a centre-back in a three-man defence that was torn apart by the Spanish.

Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu was forced off in the 50th minute having fallen awkwardly under a tackle. He is already considered to be a doubt for Tuesday’s meeting with the Republic of Ireland.

“Ethan (Ampadu) just extended his knee a little bit in the second half, and we will assess it and see how it is.” – Ryan Giggs

There was less of a Premier League presence in the Spain side. Manchester United and Chelsea goalkeepers David de Gea and Kepa Arrizabalaga rotated between the sticks at half-time while Álvaro Morata managed a 90-minute appearance with no direct involvement in any of the goals scored.

Cesar Azpilicueta was replaced in the 63rd minute by Wolves man Jonny, who made his first international appearance in the process. Marcos Alonso (£6.9m) unused substitute.

France 2-2 Iceland

Hugo Lloris (£5.4m) – 90 minutes
Lucas Digne (£4.8m) – 90 minutes
Paul Pogba (£8.1m) – 67 minutes
Olivier Giroud (£7.8m) – 90 minutes
Kurt Zouma (£5.0m) – 45 minutes

Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£6.0m) – 71 minutes
Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) – 80 minutes

It was a nervy night for France who had to rely on a late show of class from substitute Kylian Mbappé to avoid defeat to Iceland.

Hugo Lloris conceded twice in the first hour, Kari Arnason heading home a Gylfi Sigurdsson corner for the second goal. Everton man Lucas Digne played the whole match at left-back, with colleague Kurt Zouma coming on at half-time.

Paul Pogba came off in the 67th minute while Olivier Giroud lasted the whole match up front. Mamadou Sakho and N’Golo Kante remained on the bench.

Is this finally my time to ship DDG? Who would you get for max 5.7t? He'd be playing all matches until i WC or get another keeper:
    De Gea
    Doherty, Robertson, Alonso, Bennett
    Salah, Hazard, Bernardo Silva, Fraser
    Mitrovic, Agüero

    Hamer, Wan-Bissaka, Kamara, Stephens

Also, I'd like to get in Mendy (for bennett or awb), worth it for -4 this week?

Have 1ft and 0.5m itb. Kane and Shaw are possible out of my team
      A) Give Kane this week
      B) Kane to Kun and dont bother with Shaw on bench this week
      C) Kane to Kun to afford Shaw to Mendy for a hit, Mendy will surely pay off right away and one less thing to worry about next week.

With Robbo, TAA, Doherty and AWB as your defenders, the weekend 3 of november looks bad for a Liverpool double up, Doherty and AWB bad fixtures as well. What are people’s thoughts on this? Could it be better to get a Newcastle defender to spread the risk a bit?

Liverpool kept a clean sheet v Man City and were very close to doing so v spurs.

Given the fact everyone owns a pool defender more or less just run with the double imo

Yeah, a pool double up looks good now, but I dont wanna sell TAA after 2 game weeks considering who they meet after Arsenal. A double up is always risky, and I have double Chelsea as well, so I might just go for a Newcastle defender right away.

Mane operating at 8.4ppg against the diddy teams this season and there's a few of those on the horizon for Liverpool in the next few GWs. I reckon he's much better value than Salah who would have difficulty kicking a cow's arse at the moment.

It’s true, but remember he is operating at 8.4 PPG courtesy of an offside goal that never should have been allowed in GW1, and a lucky break of a ball falling to his feet v Leicester.

Next 4 games will be very interesting in the Salah vs Mané debate. If Mané managed to pick up penalties, and outscored Salah by say 20 points over those 4 games, questions would have to be asked.

My money is on Mo though.

I have Hamer so little choice but to change the keeper.
Kun 60 minutes annoying me but I could do Kane instead.
Firmino strange when i could do Mane but I feel he is going to offer reliable points.
Shaw to Mendy a no brainer for me.

There were some direct quotes recently.

Something along the lines of having an injury which causes swelling, so after a game on the Saturday he won't train again the Thursday to let the swelling go down...and then he's good for the Saturday again.
