It’s a welcome return for our Captain Sensible article as the return of Fantasy Premier League action is now very close.

The second international break of the season has given us plenty of time to weigh up our skipper decisions for Gameweek 9.

As per usual, Sergio Aguero, Eden Hazard and Mohamed Salah all figure in the debate. We’ll be looking at the results of our poll as well as the underlying data behind the options themselves, their teams and their respective Gameweek 9 opposition.

Captain Poll

Not for the first time this season, Sergio Aguero (Β£11.3m) is the runaway leader of the captain poll. At the time of writing, the Manchester City striker boasts a 44.69% share of the vote and was considerably clear of second-placed Eden Hazard (Β£11.3m).

The Chelsea man has just under 13% backing thus far. Both he and Aguero may have been boosted by the fact that Mohamed Salah (Β£12.8m) is an injury doubt for Gameweek 9 when it came to the voting process.

Hazard especially has also been more reliable than the Egyptian this season and leads his rival on goal involvements by a score of ten to five. That is why the easier fixture for Salah is not so enticing, even if Hazard is facing Manchester United.

Interestingly, Raheem Sterling (Β£11.2m) is still yet to trouble this season’s big three. He sits fourth in the vote with a little under 7% of the votes in our poll, despite blanking in just one of his Premier League appearances in 2018/19 and outscoring Aguero in every home match. That could indicate that many of those who participated in the poll are struggling to fit him into their squads given their current structure and are looking elsewhere for the captaincy.

Alexandre Lacazette‘s (Β£9.7m) recent form has him hot on Sterling’s trail in the captain poll. He currently edges Harry Kane‘s (Β£12.5m) 4.55% share of the vote with a backing of 4.63% at the time of writing.

Surprisingly, up next is Marcos Alonso (Β£7.0m) whose 2.48% score is nearly more than double that of Alexandar Mitrovic (Β£6.9m), Callum Wilson (Β£6.4m) and Richarlison (Β£6.8m).

    More on Fraser and King:

Eddie Howe has said that there will be late decisions made on attacking duo Ryan Fraser and Joshua King for the game with Southampton.

Fraser pulled out of the Scotland squad during the international break, with the Bournemouth manager speaking about the 24-year-old's fitness during his pre-match press conference.

"We'll have to see with Ryan," said the Cherries manager. "He's been carrying a hamstring injury for a few weeks, we'll have to see and make a late decision on him, but he's certainly a doubt."

Striker King did go away with Norway over the last week or so, but returned to Dorset with an injury of his own.

Howe gave further details: "I wouldn't say he's 100%, he's picked up an ankle injury and he's not trained with us. We'll see if he goes out [on Friday] and then we'll make a decision on him.

"Sometimes it's only after a game that you feel the repercussions of an injury like this, but his ankle's swollen up and we're looking at him carefully.

"We don't want this injury to stop his momentum with us so we're hopeful he'll be fit."

Fwiw both King and Fraser weren't spotted in the Bournemouth training pictures yesterday.

          That's as big a "no-no" as I've heard.
Hamstring + still a doubt 24 hours before a game. Suggests to me he'll be on the bench at best.

No, you’ll get more out of it playing it on a Saturday or Sunday imo after another gameweek’s worth of data + a full weeks’ price rises - just use a FT to swap out if someone is definitely out

It is pretty imbalaned. You could arguably sell Mane and Zaha for a -4 and get a decent team out, but it's problematic to have both Kane and Salah in there. I think it's worth wildcarding.

Their doubts. Different to being out.
That said I’m going off getting Wilson in for Zaha because of those doubts.

I have Fraser. I’m going to upgrade Guendouzi to Bernard instead and play 3-5-2 and if Fraser doesn’t play then Zaha comes of the bench.

Obviously wait until the Klopp presser, but it's unwise to carry injured players into your fresh team. Fraser fixtures stiffen up anyway - look elsewhere.

Firmino prob the safest of Liverpool attackers, Brooks over Fraser perhaps if you want Bournemouth cover.

        Will Iheanacho keep his place?
I know Gray coming back could make a difference to him and Maddison positionally, but I'm not in the know on Leicester.

Maybe my final wc team, play 433 and focus on form player.
Will get Pool attacker in the future.

        Patricio
        Alonso • Robbo • Mendy • Doherty
Sterling (vc) • Haz • Rich
        Kun (c) • Laca • Wilson
        (Button, Bennett, Obiang, Hojberg)

        Transfer plan in gw 11:
        Wilson, Patricio -> Arnie, Fabs

        Good luck all πŸ™‚

Presumably you'll go Sterling to a Pool attacker if needs be?

I like it and interesting structure. I'm on WC too and still tempted to ditch Maddison, but wondering whether he'll move centrally again with Gray coming back.

"I wouldn't say he's 100%, he's picked up an ankle injury and he's not trained with us.

I see the benching headache for you. I just see Everton getting some confidence and at home plus very attacking are going to roll someone over soon. Might not be this week of course.

On the other hand Bournemouth have a good game and are free scoring. It’s your call could go either way. Either one will be good backup if Salah is out.
