It’s a welcome return for our Captain Sensible article as the return of Fantasy Premier League action is now very close.

The second international break of the season has given us plenty of time to weigh up our skipper decisions for Gameweek 9.

As per usual, Sergio Aguero, Eden Hazard and Mohamed Salah all figure in the debate. We’ll be looking at the results of our poll as well as the underlying data behind the options themselves, their teams and their respective Gameweek 9 opposition.

Captain Poll

Not for the first time this season, Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) is the runaway leader of the captain poll. At the time of writing, the Manchester City striker boasts a 44.69% share of the vote and was considerably clear of second-placed Eden Hazard (£11.3m).

The Chelsea man has just under 13% backing thus far. Both he and Aguero may have been boosted by the fact that Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) is an injury doubt for Gameweek 9 when it came to the voting process.

Hazard especially has also been more reliable than the Egyptian this season and leads his rival on goal involvements by a score of ten to five. That is why the easier fixture for Salah is not so enticing, even if Hazard is facing Manchester United.

Interestingly, Raheem Sterling (£11.2m) is still yet to trouble this season’s big three. He sits fourth in the vote with a little under 7% of the votes in our poll, despite blanking in just one of his Premier League appearances in 2018/19 and outscoring Aguero in every home match. That could indicate that many of those who participated in the poll are struggling to fit him into their squads given their current structure and are looking elsewhere for the captaincy.

Alexandre Lacazette‘s (£9.7m) recent form has him hot on Sterling’s trail in the captain poll. He currently edges Harry Kane‘s (£12.5m) 4.55% share of the vote with a backing of 4.63% at the time of writing.

Surprisingly, up next is Marcos Alonso (£7.0m) whose 2.48% score is nearly more than double that of Alexandar Mitrovic (£6.9m), Callum Wilson (£6.4m) and Richarlison (£6.8m).

Hoping to get some answers now as I know how packed it gets on Friday evenings 😉

    Ederson (Hamer)
    Bennett Robbo Mendy (Alonso, AWB)
    Hazard Maddison Rich Fraser (4.5m)
    Aguero Kane Arnautovic

    Save or get Laca in?

Laca for Arnie? If so i am also thinking of going heavy up top. I love Arnie but niggling knee issues spell danger long term for me. Also loathe ot get Mendy as Pep says no to two games in a week and the Sane issue. Otherwise sweet team, love the Ederson safety with Bravo out

I really like Arnies run of fixtures, can’t quite manage Laca for him either. We’ll see with Mendy, will become obvious soon whether or not he’ll sort his attitude out

On my wildcard and experiencing the usual multitude of options problems so advice on the following would be very helpful - I really fancy either Schurrle or Bernard (in for Fraser if bad news) to be great value at 5.9 but already have Richo. Thinking of going maverik up top...........

    Ederson - Stek
    Dunk - Robbo - Yedlin - Doherty - Bennett
    Schurrle - Rich - Hazard - Fraser - Musuaku
    Kane - Laca - Agüero

Alternativley Kane & Fraser go to Jimenez & Salah for more balance.

      You don't need Kane
Mitro/Arnie will give you more value and flexibility,
And do something with the extra cash, your Mid is bad

I have kept £4.3 ITB to move Dilva to Salah. But a fully rested Dilva may not be outscored by yellow flagged Salah. Should I roll FT and make the transfer next week if salah looks good? Even if Dilva misses the full game I’ve maddison first sub anyway

Is just get Salah in if he’s fit. I’ve done the exact move of DSilva to Salah.

DSilva could do well but it’s one of those time (IMO) you just have to risk it and hope he doesn’t. He could easily blank too. Where Salah could easily haul.

Have same kind of problem. Lukaku and Dilva to Arnie or Salah. That would mean to do right now.
      Or
Lukaku to Firmino now and next week Dilva to Mane, which gives me 2 Pool attacker.

I've moved Fraser to Sterling this week, to move to Salah next week if he looks good against Hudd. To many unanswered questions with Salah atm for me, whereas Sterling has been firing so far.

Just pulled the trigger on Kane & Shaw to Firmino & Mendy.

2.2m left itb means I can upgrade Will Hughes to Maddison next week.

I've avoided Firmino all season but the next run of fixtures look inviting for him, some very leaky defences. I there is a time to hit some form, it's now.

Good move. Bobby isn’t the flavour of the month around here but if people expect Liverpool to start thumping Hudds, Cardiff and Fulham then Bobby will likely be involved and could score well.

Sad story. On my wildcard (gw 4) I picked Neves as a 5 mid to play him when someone injured. I`m already played him 3 or 4 times with very good fixtures and he never delivered more than 3 points. Look like tomorrow he again will play instead of Fraser. Just give him last chance and free funds next week (Billing for example)?

On my WC and need to decide on these 2 combo

    A) Alonso Balbuena Fraser
    B) Mendy TAA Knockaert

    A) has an underperforming Alonso, Balbuena who is going to be rotated with Doherty and Fraser who is now a doubt

    B) has Mendy and TAA who are both rotation risks? Also Knock who is a punt but has fixtures on his side and on set pieces

So it looks that Salah have been training and fit. Which one is the right way, have 2 FT.

      A) Lukaku, Dilva and Shaw >> Arnie, Salah and TAA in -4.

      B) Lukaku and Shaw >> Firmino and TAA for free now.
Next week Dilva to Mane. (Dilva have Burnley this week so would be happy to keep him)

A gives me just Salah and TAA from Pool. Maybe later Robbo in.
B gives me Firmino, Mane and TAA.
