Gameweek 10 is almost upon us and surely it can’t be as bad as Gameweek 9, right?

The lowest average of the season had many in despair.

The FPL community has been quieter than usual this week as managers lick their wounds.

I managed a score of 42 which was respectable considering some of the horror stories from the weekend.

The Punishers

Going into Gameweek 10, Anthony Knockaert (£5.5m) is causing me a headache. He came in on a double move in Gameweek 8, alongside Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m), to replace David Silva (£8.5m) and Callum Wilson (£6.5m). It’s safe to say, those were not my best transfers of the season! Wilson must have known I had sold him as he gave a salute in his goal celebration to rub salt in my wounds.

In hindsight, I should have been more patient with him as he still had three good fixtures and excellent underlying statistics despite going five games without a goal. I was hell-bent on getting Arnie in for the Brighton game which meant sacrificing Silva who also punished me with a nine-pointer in the 5-0 win over Burnley.

Knockaert hasn’t worked out and is now a rotation risk having sat out the Gameweek 9 fixture against Newcastle. He’s likely to be my transfer out this week.

The reason I went cheap with the Silva replacement was so that Andrew Robertson (£6.4m) could come in for Jose Holebas (£4.8m) in Gameweek 9 which worked out well. The Scottish Roberto Carlos was phenomenal again in the Champions League last night.

Salah and the Liverpool defence

Another player who impressed for Liverpool against Red Star Belgrade was the runaway leader in this week’s captaincy poll, Mohamed Salah (£12.8m). A brace, including one from the spot, has his owners feeling confident of a big haul at home to Cardiff this weekend. Non-owners will no doubt be looking at ways to get him.

Hat trick please Mo ©.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.1m) owners are worried after he missed his second game in a row. Dejan Lovren (£4.9m) has come in and posted back-to-back nine-pointers. The Croatian was an unused substitute in the Champions League in midweek which suggests he may start against Cardiff. If so, the big question is – who starts at right back, TAA or Joe Gomez (£5.1m)? If I owned TAA, I’d give him one more week if you have a solid first sub who can come in if he misses out again.

Knockaert replacements

Roberto Pereyra (£6.2m), Andre Schürrle (£6.0m), Kenedy (£4.9m) and Josh Murphy (£4.8m) are battling it out for a place in my Gameweek 10 squad.

Pereyra and Schurrle have four goals each, while Kenedy and Murphy have the favourable fixtures between now and Christmas and are much cheaper. More research is required before I come to a decision but I’m leaning towards going cheap and using the cash saved to improve things next week.

Benjamin Mendy (£6.3m) is top of my ‘Wanted’ list for Gameweek 11. Once he’s back in, the next step will be to figure out which Man City midfielder is worth the investment. A task I’m not looking forward to!

Good luck to all in Gameweek 10.

have an opinion on the current bps system that it's a great really well balanced system up until 1 goal for each player. when i say balanced here i'm referring between playing positions, so defs, mids and strikers. what i do think is as soon as a players scores 2 goals for example it then tips far too heavily in forwards' favour.

to give the most recent example i'd say aubameyang getting 3 bonus over ozil. ozil's double attacking return as a midfielder was worth 27bps, aubameyang's was worth 48bps. an example which really put this whole inbalance in my mind in the first place was an example from last season when spurs won 0-4 at huddersfield. kane scored a brace (48bps) and ben davies got a goal assist and clean sheet (33bps). imo the latter is the more impressive, it's like he scored a hattrick given as a fullback you're pretty limited to what you can do, but it's 15bps worse off, a pretty significant gap. let's say davies didn't get the clean sheet, his goal and assist would be worth 21bps to kane's 48bps. that's mad imo.

strikers getting a bit more for a goal does have logic as they'll be getting less pass bonus and stuff like tackles, clearances, blocks, interceptions etc, sure i get it, and really like the balance in matches where a player is getting 1 goal max. but yeah the system then gets a bit exposed beyond that. the frustration i have is i don't really know an obvious solution. is there one? resisted the urge to say surely 99% of people would have said ozil had the superior match to aubameyang because well this is a stats system so kind of have to keep it there.

I think the system is more biased towards defenders if anything.

Go look at BPS breakdown this season. I think you will find forwards are the lowest (not sure about GKs).
If a striker scores 2 goals, hes done his job exceptionally and deserves to be rewarded.

guess there i'd ask are the defenders just getting a load more assists and goals than normal whilst the strikers are barely scoring a brace between them. can barely remember 5 braces this season

I agree, but forwards struggle to make points otherways.

Aguero scores 1 goal, he needs 3 bonus to get 9 points
Hazard scores 1 goal and gets a CS, he only needs 1 bonus to equal that

What i dont agree with is yellow cards being -3 bps. They already lose -1 point and a lot of yellows are tactical fouls.

feel that's fair, although yeah ideally you could divide up yellow cards. a players loses the ball in an awful way and someone else ends up getting the yellow for the tactical foul. they arguably both deserve the same punishment or even the initial loss of the ball should be punished more (although there is argument tactical foul are the worst of the lot, it's throwing in the towell and as intentional as it gets).
yellows could be an area where man in the stands actually has an advantage, they can distinguish between all those different type of cards.

also what if a midfielder scores a brace (36bps), or even more extreme case what if a defender scores a brace (24bps). they've both done their job exceptionally too and have done something (to generalise as salah is a mid for example) much more rare yet get rewarded less bps wise.

they get rewarded more points wise as you say, just wonder if they should get rewarded more bonus wise too. maybe the second goal is worth 24 for all players, or increase the weighting of assists. i don't know, it's complex, you tweak one thing and end up causing imbalances elsewhere

I think it's a good thing, forwards can't get clean sheet point/s and only get 4 for a goal.

I agree, forwards score goals - that's their job. Why should they be rewarded more bonus for doing something they should, than a defender - who won't score that many goals.

One slip from another defender could mean defenders lose bps that way as well from no fault of their own - CS points gone, BPS gone from a collective fault, not an individual fault.

The BPS weighting should be given depending on how difficult it is for that position to execute that task.

My main concern with bps is that it should have nothing to do with goals and assists though as they are rewarded by points anyway. I much rather the Sun way of doing things and just give the bonus to the MOTM - sometimes the best player on the pitch doesn't score or assist (KDB assisting the assister time and time again springs to mind, or the Scholes days when he would boss the game but you wouldn't see and goals or assists stats to his name). At least that way the bonus will go to the player that had the best game.

liked the sky concept, just not always their choices 😛
picking rooney against villa once springs to mind, was either 0-0 or 0-1 and the only mentions he got all match were negative. sometimes feels dare i say nationalistic. but yh i imagine they can't be asked for all the fury over selections with a subjective system

Dare I say it, but why not just scrap the bonus system?

Most areas are covered by giving points for goals, assists, saves and clean sheets anyway...

Bonus usually goes to whoever scores a brace (in most cases) and they get rewarded with goals points anyway.

is definitely one option, although things like chips make me think the makers are keen on more than less. interesting how no bonus does change your thinking, sit next to a guy a work who is always asking about 50-50s in a draft game without bonus points and you're so programmed to saying things like "yeah but watch out for richarlison/schurrle/salah with bonus, and groB is worth it for the bonus that come with any attacking return" that you really have to alter your perceptions

If a striker scores 2 goals I do think they should be getting lots of bps. A vrace is a big deal. As you say further down, there are not that many braces for any players so far this season; they desrve to be rewarded handsomely. Especially as the whole game comes down to scoring goals - they are the most significant part of a match. Arguably 5-8 players are involved in a clean sheet, but only one scores a goal - they deserve credit

do you think a midfielder brace should be worth 12bps less than a striker brace? counter i guess is clean sheet point, extra point for a goal, potentially more likely to assist, more likely to reach 30 passes etc

    Thinking of Mane (C).
Spurs vs Man City could be a close game. Which rules out Aguero.
I don't fancy Hazard to get a points haul, away at Burnley.

Need to make strategic decision on transferring Salah or Mane as a part of 2FT combo (WC in gw15/16).
Below is the difference depending on that transfer (option 1 with Salah, 2-with mane)
    Gw10: 1-king vs fulham, 2-Arnie vs Leicester
Gw 11: 1-king vs man Utd and Kennedy vs watford, 2- Arnie vs Burnley, richa vs Brighton
Gw12: 1-king vs New, Kennedy vs bou. 2- fraser vs new, mitro vs Chelsea
Gw13: 1-king vs are, Kennedy vs Burnley. 2-richa vs Cardiff, mitro vs Southampton

    What option is better please?

Big difference between asking an opinion on which player to start / transfer in, and which entire team is going to score more goals over a 7 gwk period. Not even close to being similar to the simple "A or B" type questions, it's much deeper than that and requires a decent amount of research to come to a conclusion worthy of posting.

Both good options. If it's 4-0 as we're all expecting then think there'll be returns for both. I'd always go for a midfielder over defender and Cardiff did score 4 last time out (Fulham I know but still).

My gut also says that, it would be a differential . Needs bravery. Can Hazard go ballistic this week?

Looks a safe bet, you would be very unlucky not to get 6 and good chance of an 11 or 12 pointer even with just 1 assist

I'm going to do it but the Cardiff goal against Chelsea worries me.

But yeah 6 points plus potential attacking returns I have a good feeling...

Just go with Sterling or get Mane?
Can't get Salah using single transfer and downgrading Laca doesn't look good as he has CRY.

    Captain Haz if it
    Kun otherwise

Might be worth covering these two Liverpool home games just in case they do slaughter Cardiff and Fulham.

Would you rather have for this week:

    A. Salah (c) + Arnie
    B. Mane (c) + Lacazette

    And gong forwards:

    1. Salah + Wilson
    2. Mane + Lacazette

    Thanks.

......if anyone wants to know, first option would have Kun, Arnie Wilson front line, second would have Kun, Lacca, Wilson, bu selling Wilson for Arnie next week, hence the slightly contradictory looking options......
