Manchester City are currently sweating over the fitness of Kevin de Bruyne (£9.8m) after he came off injured in the League Cup.

However, there were some positives for Fantasy Premier League managers as neither one of Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) or Benjamin Mendy (£6.4m) were involved in the 2-0 win over Fulham.

We’ve got all the Fantasy talking points in this latest Scout Notes article.

Manchester City 2-0 Fulham

Goals: Brahim Diaz x2 (£4.7m)

Assists: Vincent Kompany (£5.2m)

It was a mixed night for De Bruyne as he made his first start since sustaining a knee injury in August. He was in excellent form on the night but had to be brought off in the second half after falling awkwardly under a Timothy Fosu-Mensah (£4.5m) tackle. Thankfully for him, the knee he was clutching as he limped off was not the one he damaged over the summer, but it is still early days, until we get another update from Pep Guardiola.

“I think today Kevin is back. The Kevin we know. He made a huge effort against Shakhtar, played a few minutes against Spurs in difficult conditions. Today he was involved in offence and defence. Hopefully what happened in the last minute is not serious. He is being checked by the doctors. We don’t know if it’s nothing or if it’s something serious.” – Pep Guardiola

Guardiola made 10 changes to the side that won at Spurs on Monday night with only John Stones (£5.3m) keeping his place. That was good news for a large number of Fantasy managers invested in Aguero and Mendy, who played no part in the match.

Aymeric Laporte (£5.8m) looks set to start an eleventh successive Premier League match on Sunday after he was left out of the match-day squad entirely.

Ederson (£5.8m), Kyle Walker (£6.6m), Bernardo Silva (£7.6m) and Raheem Sterling (£11.1m) were all unused substitutes, while Riyad Mahrez (£8.6m) came on for goal-scorer Brahim Diaz (£4.7m) in the closing stages. The youngster continues to impress in matches outside the Premier League but is still yet to register an FPL minute this season.

“Everybody was good. Brahim make two goals, Aro make a clean sheet. We didn’t concede too many chances, he gave us good security, Phil Foden every time he plays a good level.” – Pep Guardiola

Most of the starting XI against Fulham were always unlikely to be starting against Southampton this weekend so there are not expected to be many Fantasy managers too worried about the so-called ‘Pep Roulette’ this weekend. 90 minutes for Stones and Leroy Sané (£9.2m), as well as De Bruyne’s 86 minutes and injury, are the biggest causes for concern.

There was a start in goal for Arijanet Muric (£4.5m) with Oleksandr Zinchenko (£4.8m), Vincent Kompany (£5.2m) and Danilo (£5.1m) joining Stones in a back-four. Despite fielding a second-strike defence, Man City kept their eighth successive clean sheet in domestic competitions this season.

That will be somewhat discouraging to owners of Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.9m) and Andre Schürrle (£6.0m), as they formed part of a fairly strong Fulham line-up that offered little. There were just three changes from the side that lost to Bournemouth in Gameweek 10.

“It’s not so strange in this country (to name a strong side in the EFL Cup), especially teams plays Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, between these three games it’s nine days and I try first of all respect the competition.” – Slavisa Jokanovic

Despite playing what constituted as a first-team, Fulham were exceptionally flat throughout the encounter. From the moment Diaz’s opening goal hit the back of the net in the 18th minute the match felt more like a training exercise than a cup tie.

Once again the Cottagers’ forward players were starved of service and barely troubled their illustrious hosts. That was largely down to the fact that Slavisa Jokanovic appeared insistent in playing the ball out from the back. Naturally, this was not particularly effective against the best possession side in the country.

There had been suggestions that Fulham would benefit from Luciano Vietto (£5.5m) and Tom Cairney (£4.8m), the former for his creative link-up with Mitrovic and the latter for protection of the defence. Admittedly this was a match against Manchester City, but it appears they did not have the desired effect in a drab performance.

“It’s important for us (having Cairney back), between other things I try to force him for all the games. I know in life there always exists risk, he push all the game bravely, he made good work, he needed this kind of situation with this kind of game. He didn’t play so much this season, he’s an important player for us and I believe he is positive in everything he made tonight.” – Slavisa Jokanovic

Manchester City XI (4-3-3): Muric; Zinchenko, Kompany, Stones, Danilo; Foden, Delph, De Bruyne (Gomes 86′); Sané, Jesus, Diaz (Mahrez 78′).

Fulham XI (4-3-3): Rico; R Sessegnon, Ream (Le Marchand 69′), Odoi, Fosu-Mensah; Seri, Zambo Anguissa, Cairney; Schürrle (Ayité 81′), Mitrović, Vietto (Christie 90′).

Maurizio Sarri has reported that he does not know whether Eden Hazard is fit to play for 90 minutes on Sunday; “He trained for a large part of the session yesterday. He can probably play for 40 to 45 minutes." #CFC

I’m probably gonna just gonna play him and hope for the best but leave the captaincy and vice captaincy away from him this week. Do other managers smell an opportunity though?

Could this be a good time to trade him for a Man City midfielder with the likes of Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez facing Southampton at the Etihad or maybe those currently without Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mané can get on board with Liverpool up against a potentially makeshift Arsenal defence and Fulham at home to come?

If you’re keeping Hazard do you have a strong first sub in the event of a no show? Does anyone think it might be worth leaving him on your bench this week and playing someone else ahead of him?

In light of this news, what is your plan of action for Eden Hazard this week?

I don’t understand the problem. If you kept him him last week you wil play him and take what you get. If you sold him last week you get to wait a week to get him back without too much damage.

Thinking about leaving Hazard on the bench and playing Success. Might back out though ha

Not worth a transfer out if you have decent value tied up in him as he'll be back playing 90 minutes from next gameweek.

I posted this on an earlier page:

So I did some research on how Sarri has responded to Hazard's return in the past. Before the GW 3 game against Newcastle, here is what Sarri had to say:

"I don’t know. I think Eden is ready for 50 or 60 minutes. I don’t know if 90 minutes. But he can start.” Asked if the player himself feels ready to play a full game, Sarri replied: “Maybe, but I think it’s more important (what is in) my mind.”

        https://www.westlondonsport.com/chelsea/chelsea-boss-unsure-of-hazards-fitness-ahead-of-newcastle-clash

Despite the pessimistic remarks of his manager, Hazard ended up playing the entire quota of 90 minutes. I know that Hazard was supposed to come off before the last player subbed (Kovacic due to injury) but even that was around the 80 minute mark. You'd expect that Sarri, like Eddie Howe, tends to err on the side of precaution on injuries in his press conferences.

TLDR/Conclusion: I would not be surprised if Hazard starts the game, and ends up being taken off around the hour mark if the game is in the bag. You'd expect him to be involved in the goals in that case, anyways. Given the history of the pessimism of his manager, his high ownership, his record from the bench (2 assists in 2 games after coming on) and the fact that the game is on a Sunday (which would give Hazard more recovery time to train), I personally think it's an extremely risky move to sell before such a favorable fixture.

A very risky move. The risk vs reward is not there for a sale.

Agree with your points, I wanted to check this myself too.

But before such a favourable fixture? Aren't Palace quite good defensively? Especially away from home?

Price swing is a big issue for a lot of managers, I only brought Hazard in fairly recently so haven’t got TV tied up.

I’ve just swapped for Sterling, means a triple up on City alongside Kun & Mendy so there best be a goal feast.

Yea. If there wasn't .4 million extra cost to get him back, I might be tempted to transfer Sterling in and then Mané for him. Yet he may even start and score and I already lost my ft getting Barkley in for Fraser. -4 pts and -.4 million is simply just not worth it.

I do smell an opportunity I must admit.

I think too many people on here fear losing TV/ SV, when the fact is Hazard looked under priced at 10.5 at beginning of the season.

So to pick him back up at 11 ish later is still real value.

Not worth it for one week of 45 mins maybe this week and then back to 90 mins next week. Using valuable transfers in shifting him and getting him back. IMO

Was planning Haz & Bilva > Salah & Maddison last week but chickened out and went for the seemingly safe Zaha > Arnie. Didn't work out too well.

Had decided to save this week and do Hazard & Bilva/Richa > Salah & Maddison/Barkley depending on how they do this week but now I'm tempted to break it down into two and do Hazard > Barkley/Maddison this week and Richa/Bilva > Salah next week. As I probably prefer Barkley/Maddison to Hazard this week if only 45 mins ...

I just wondered what Hazard's points potential is against Palace, Everton and Spurs.

Palace are defensively tight even if Hazard comes on. Everton are ever improving, and Spurs will be very tight potentially.

So is a month without Hazard going to be much of a downside when you can replace with Liverpool/City assets?

      • PaperTroopers
        • 8 Years

No way I am selling Hazard if he is close to full fitness. If he is able to do approx. 60 min. then he should be good for 90 min. next GW. Honestly, I would keep him even he didn't play this GW at all.

Without midweek games (looks like he is always rotated for Europa League anyway) then he has time to get the rest and the time he needs to get back.

To much uncertainty with Hazard at the moment. Sold last week for Salah. Will take a view when I know he is 100% fit.

      Help pls!

      Dubravka
      Robertson/alonso/holebas*
      Salah/hazard/maddy/fraser*
      Kun/murray/mitrovic*

      Bench: hamer/bennet/hojberg/AWB

      0.3ITB

Do i just shift mitrovic for arnautovic and take no hits? Or should i also shift our fraser for barkley? My initial plan was to get into arnie next gw and instead move out of fraser but cant stand having mitro in my team as fulham suk and specialy after the Hazard news and cup lineups i am now sure that barkley will play.
      Thanks

      Hazard - Mane - Bilva - Richa - Billing
      Aguero - Wilson - Mitro

I feel like I should bring someone for Hamer, but have 0 ITB.
