Ryan Fraser (£6.3m) was the key Fantasy Premier League man to be benched in the Saturday afternoon matches for Gameweek 18.

He was named among the Bournemouth substitutes for the visit of Brighton, with David Brooks (£5.0m) and Junior Stanislas (£6.0m) preferred on the flanks, with Callum Wilson (£6.9m) and Josh King (£6.3m) up front.

That will be of some frustration to those Fraser owners who opted to hold on to him one more week in order to specifically capitalise on Brighton’s vulernability to set pieces in away matches.

There was better news from the Etihad Stadium as both of this week’s most talked about Manchester City options Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) and Leroy Sané (£9.7m) were selected in the starting line-up to face Crystal Palace.

Gabriel Jesus (£10.1m) leads the line, while Sergio Aguero (£11.2m) was benched, following some minutes for him in the League Cup midweek.

Wilfried Zaha (£6.7m) returns to the starting line-up for Crystal Palace after missing Gameweek 17 through suspension.

Glenn Murray (£6.5m) was left out of the starting line-up for another away match with both Jurgen Locadia (£5.3m) and Florin Andone (£5.0m) both in the Brighton side.

Eden Hazard (£11.0m) leads the line for Chelsea once again, with Maurizio Sarri making no changes to the side which beat Brighton in Gameweek 17.

Jamie Vardy (£8.8m) comes through his injury doubt to start for Leicester at Stamford Bridge, while Ben Chilwell (£5.1m) returns for the Foxes.

Of particular note was another start for budget Southampton defender Jan Bednarek (£3.9m), who has now featured from the beginning for the last three matches in a row.

Bournemouth XI: Begovic, Francis, Cooke, Ake, Surman, Lerma, Daniels, Wilson, King, Brooks, Stanislas.

Brighton XI: Ryan; Montoya, Dunk, Balogun, Bernardo; Bissouma, Pröpper; Andone, Groß, March; Locadia.

Chelsea XI: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Rüdiger, David Luiz, Alonso; Kanté, Jorginho, Kovacic; Pedro, Hazard, Willian.

Leicester XI: Schmeichel; Ricardo Pereira, Morgan, Maguire, Chilwell; Choudhury, Mendy, Ndidi; Albrighton, Vardy, Maddison.

Huddersfield XI: Lössl; Hadergjonaj, Zanka, Schindler, Kongolo; Bacuna, Billing; Mbenza, Pritchard, Löwe; Mounie.

Southampton XI: McCarthy; Bednarek, Yoshida, Vestergaard; Valery, Højbjerg, Oriol Romeu, Targett; Armstrong, Redmond; Ings.

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Laporte, Otamendi, Delph, Gundogan, Sane, Sterling, Bernardo, Jesus

Crystal Palace XI: Guaita; Wan-Bissaka, Tomkins, Sakho, van Aanholt; McArthur, Milivojevic, Meyer, Schlupp; Townsend, Zaha.

Newcastle XI: Dubravka; Manquillo, Lascelles, Schär, Dummett; Ritchie, Diamé, Ki, Atsu; Ayoze Pérez; Rondón.

Fulham XI: Rico; Odoi, Mawson, Ream; Christie, Chambers, Seri, Bryan; Cairney, Schürrle; Mitrovic.

West Ham XI: Fabianski; Zabaleta, Balbuena, Diop, Masuaku; Snodgrass, Noble, Rice, Felipe Anderson; Antonio, Chicharito.

Watford XI: Foster; Kiko Femenía, Kabasele, Cathcart, Holebas; Doucouré, Capoue; Sema, Pereyra; Deulofeu, Deeney.

2 hauls from 2 of the 6 big hitters (Salah, Auba, Sterling, Kane, Aguero, Hazard). Will the trend continue?

      He’s still ticking over.

I have 2 FT so need to consider the downgrade, but happy to hold if theirs no obvious move to free up funds. I still don’t want Auba at that price.

      1. diesel001

You do want Auba at that price. He is the best value along with Sterling and Hazard of the 6 big hitters. Unless you are planning to bring in KDB / Aguero who could potentially be better value.

I'm gonna part with his company, showed a very frustrated player when subbed today, not a good sign. May even get reprimanded by Emry for his outburst. Will use it as an opportunity to bring Hazard in with my 2FT next week.

Think we have to assume at this point that Emery just doesn’t like Lacazette. He’s not “saving” or “resting” him at this stage.

Showing in Laca’s play as well. Doesn’t look confident at all. Zero shots today I think. Absolutely pointless to hold onto him in the hopes he does something amazing at Brighton or vs Fulham at home.

Why he was subbed instead of Auba which has played too much?

Because real football isn't like Fifa. You don't just take off the ST with the slightly lower stamina because it's the easiest way to make the decision 😆

well auba was benched at start of the season and then came back to his favor .Seriously dont want to predict emery and what he thinks

      • Deulofail
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 3 months ago

To assume that would be rash. The sample size is so, so small, and you have to consider the tactical decisions Emery has to make. The only explanation isn't that he doesn't like Lacazette. Not by a long shot. For a start, he played 77 mins. Emery is not the kind of guy to give someone 77 minutes for free.

Yeah, you can't really control point swings in DGWs. Can easily go 50 points either direction. Just accept you've got to only lead 1 GW and that's GW 38. I've noticed in my MLs, that while I've also won from leading, I feel more relaxed chasing. Else, you're constantly looking at rivals and it's stressful.

2 GWks ago I got 26points, was second on ML.
            Leader got almost 100points.

Yes, you can easily. I got one week over 70 point less than leader.

I’ve been behind my ML leader since he triple captained Aguero on his big hall at the beginning on the season. I’ve tried to keep steady and not over react. Last GW I moved ahead of him by 10 points (without using any chips). So you definitely can catch up.

You have a low chance IMO. FPL is a leaders game because of price rises and the fact that as you go further in the season, the pool of players has narrowed. In GW1 there are hundreds of players who could do well. By GW19 that pool is a lot smaller (think of the big hitters we have now - down to 6 - Lukaku, Sanchez, KDB, Jesus just a few to have gone as options). The pool being smaller makes getting differentials harder hence harder to chase.

Something really amusing about "lots of swimming left", but can't put my fingure on what.

If Bednarak is nailed I'm sorely tempted on bringing him in for Laporte. WB at 4.0, Bennett at 4.0, Bednarak 3.9, Doherty 4.4. I do love a bargain!

You must have some great players in your team if Doherty at 4.4 is classed as trash!

With this move, on wildcard, and Mitro>Ings, I can get a mid of Salah Hazard Sterling Rich and Kane up top. Hmm.

What if Sterling hauls next GW and Salah blanks? Will you be tempted to change again?

Personally I’d learn from it. You can only have so many in form premiums in your team. Pick your favourites and have a little faith in them. If their underlying form dips, that’s when you think about dropping them.
