FPL Team News and Injury Round-up – Gameweek 20

Anthony Martial (illness), Romelu Lukaku (personal reasons) and Alexis Sanchez (hamstring) are all back in contention for Manchester United after returning to training, with the attacking trio set to be assessed ahead of the visit of Bournemouth.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said:

Romelu [Lukaku], Anthony [Martial] and Alexis were [in] light [training] yesterday so hopefully they can join part of the training today and let’s see after they’ve come through.

Marcos [Rojo] and Scott [McTominay] look like they can take part very soon as well, so it’s looking better. Smalling has got a sore foot, so I don’t think we’ll see him until the New Year anyway – maybe not even before Spurs.

Pedro (hamstring) will be unavailable for Chelsea on Sunday, with the Blues likely to be missing another winger in the form of Callum Hudson-Odoi (hamstring).

That may push Eden Hazard back onto the left flank, though Maurizio Sarri was once again effusive in his praise of the Belgian as a central striker:

He is able to play as a winger and he is able to play in the centre of the pitch. I’m really very happy with him in this position because he’s able to score firstly, but also open spaces for team-mates and come to play with team-mates. I’m happy with him in the position but in the future he can play as a winger of course.

I cannot see the problem of Hazard in this role, he played four matches as a false nine, scored three goals and has three assists, so I’m not able to see the problem.

In this moment we need to be solid and with Hazard in this position I think we can become more solid, it’s a good option for the defensive phase but it depends on the moment.

Shkodran Mustafi (ankle) could return to boost Arsenal’s defensive ranks in Gameweek 20 ahead of their trip to Anfield, where Liverpool will be missing James Milner (muscle).

Serge Aurier (muscle) and Dele Alli (hamstring) will be assessed ahead of Spurs’ match against Wolves, who will again be without Diogo Jota (hamstring).

We won’t hear from Pep Guardiola before tomorrow so we’re still in the dark regarding the availability of Fernandinho (thigh) and Gabriel Jesus (knock), both of whom missed the Boxing Day defeat against Leicester City.

The Gameweek 20 preview section of Manuel Pellegrini’s presser is also embargoed until Saturday morning, so we await information on whether Marko Arnautovic (hamstring) or Javier Hernandez (knock) are able to return to face Burnley.

The Clarets themselves have major doubts over Robbie Brady (knock) and Steven Defour (calf).

Ademola Lookman (ankle) is Everton’s only injury worry for the match against Brighton, who will be missing Mathew Ryan after his departure for the Asian Cup. Chris Hughton confirmed that he is yet to make a decision over which £4.0m-rated goalkeeper he will choose as the Australian’s deputy.

Jonjo Shelvey (thigh) is fit for Newcastle, while Watford will have Will Hughes back after a hip problem.

Simon Francis (ruptured ACL) has suffered a season-ending knee injury and joins Adam Smith and Lewis Cook on the sidelines for Bournemouth.

Wayne Hennessey has recovered from a back problem so Crystal Palace are only without Christian Benteke (knee) for the visit of Chelsea.

Michael Obafemi (knock) looks set to remain unavailable for Southampton after missing the defeat to West Ham.

Claude Puel said that fatigue was an issue for Leicester City ahead of the visit of Cardiff City, who are again set to be without Kenneth Zohore (thigh).

Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa (unspecified injury) is Fulham’s only injury doubt for the clash with Huddersfield, who have no new fitness concerns.

That's what I thought too. The only change I've made on WC is laporte > Alonso... And Defenders are the only thing keeping me in it this year lol.

Which defender would you get rid of? It's a challenge to choose one

i personally would get rid of Alonso because the money from him would get you a decent mid priced mid like Richarlison or someone a bit more expensive if you have the funds

Ahhhh so torn on my team this week! So many ideas running through my mind, im a bit worried going with 0 united.
Sterling, Wilson, Brooks > Hazard, Kamara, Martial for a -8? United could run riot

A few fun facts about Harry Kane:

    - In his first 14 league games, he had only 5 at home, three of which were against Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea
    - Since clearing those hurdles, he's been quietly going about his business - he is now the only player in FPL to have got attacking returns in each of his last 8 starts
    - In the medium term - his next 7 games include the likes of WOL, WAT, NEW, LEI, ful, car and a little bonus MAN to spice things up
    - In the short term - only one team has managed to score more than 2 goals v Wolves - Spurs are that team, and Kane has them tomorrow
    - I think he's a solid bet to be top scorer in the game come ~GW26-ish

So Lord Harold to continue his ascent to the throne tomorrow?

    1. Goonsquad245

Interesting thoughts - Kane does seem to play 'better' away from home though (as in FPL 'better')

        I quite agree.

Also spurs tend to win and win heavily against teams who attack them. This happens more often away from home.

I think that could be more a reflection of that fixture list - he has actually only played a tiny proportion of home games compared to most players (8 of his 19 fixtures home/11 away)

Of his 8 home games, 3 were Liverpool, City, Chelsea so lack of hauls there isn't a massive deal.

The 2 Cardiff & Burnley displays were VERY dissapointing, but both came 3 days after massive champions league games so there are mitigating factors there, and he did return v Burnley.

The remaining 3 home games were Fulham, Southampton, Bournemouth - 3 goals, 1 assist 4 baps is very captainable.

His next 7 games go a long way to redressing that home/away balance, I'd heavily fancy a few hauls there to balance things out

I think that 4th point suggests that Wolves have a strong defence. Wolves won't leave themselves as open as Everton and Bournemouth. Kane may score but I can't see it being a hammering

Having Alli and Eriksen back has helped Spurs massively too, Kane performs much better with them in the team, although Son is stealing his thunder at the mo

Against the non top 6, Kane hasn’t gotten more than 1 attacking return in a game that son didn’t start

On the other hand, Kane averages over 7 points vs the non top 6 in games that eriksen started and over 9 points not including the first four (looked tired from wc early on)

He's played 14 games against non top 6 this season, and has 13 attacking returns and 13 baps in those games (9 goals, 4 assists) - remarkable consistency from the big man

        1. Bad Kompany
          • 6 Years

Yes but normally I’d want a little bit more than 6 points from my captain most weeks. He has been doing better recently though

            5 years, 4 months ago

6 points is a lot better than 2 from a captaincy perspective - While Kane has delivered attacking returns in all of his last 8 starts - Auba has 4 blanks in that time period, Sterling has 5 blanks, Haz has 3 blanks plus another 3 games at 4, 5 & 6 points, Salah has 4 blanks, Kun hasn't played - And with Kane's fixture list and this head of steam he's building up, he's going nicely under the radar for owners & should be top scorer in around 5-6 GW's

Just got him in for Auba with one of my 2 FT.

Spurs fixtures look great, Kane realistically rotation free and Arsenal not looking as great as they were a month ago.

I’ll have some of Harry, thank you very much.

            2. Bad Kompany
              • 6 Years
              5 years, 4 months ago

You have more than 1 captain option for a reason and it’s so you can pick who has the easier fixture. Half of the time they blanked you didn’t expect much. It’s more about delivering when they are expected to deliver.

Salah still outscored Kane in those weeks with the blanks. It’s better to get 15 and then 2 than 6 and 7.

Also midfielders get more points for each goal and can get a cs point. Even though it’s only one point it becomes two if they are your captain and it adds up pretty quickly.

I have Kane and think that he is without a doubt and good option but with so many others firing I wouldn’t say that he is a must have

Have a plan that involves bringing in TAA and Salah GW22 (don't we all) - but a decent chance I will be priced out.

Thoughts on Holebas as a TAA stand in if so? Would have Robbo Digne Doherty Holebas AWB.

    105.3 TV (2.6 ITB)

    Fabianski (Speroni)
    Alonso Robertson Digne (Doherty, AWB)
    Salah Pogba Anderson Richarlison (Hojbjerg)
    Kane Rashford (Jimenez)

Main concern is no Hazard. My options are to switch him for Salah, which I feel may be wiser for the next 2 fixtures, or to downgrade a premium defender or mid-forward. Fixtures are great for much of the team, other than Liverpool's next 2, so Robertson could make way if necessary. Thoughts?

I really like your WC team and think it's a good idea to swap Salah with Hazard next GW and back around the following.

Any worries on Rashford game time ?
Thoughts on Jonny over Doherty to save some cash?

For me, Doherty has too much attacking potential to consider dropping. Rashford has great fixtures although I am a little concerned with Sanchez and Lukaku coming back into the fold. What are your thoughts? Any United fans able to offer an opinion?

Just think that he's not going to be scoring every week.
Considered Deeney at all (rather than Jimenez maybe?)

I really can't decide who to get on my WC!! Been tinkering for days

In the same boat! My reasoning for not getting rid of Jimenez is the profit tied up in him. If I got rid, you can only really go down to a 4.5m (excluding Ings), and ideally I want nailed players for greater flexibility

I feel you. Not sure whether best to go flexible and spend a bit more (e.g. Ings over Kamara) and downgrade a mid-priced mid or go all in and 2/3 bench fodder

I got in Periera this week, great chance of immediate cs vs Cardiff and getting attacking returns, decent fixtures ahead, looked good on MOTT

MANU seem t be shipping the odd goal, playing freer and looser, dont see cs for pool next two

Anyone thinks Davies is a good defender pick for the next 2 GW's? He only played 6 mins against Bournemouth.

Should play tomorrow but can't say after that. Rose has been playing well and vert not too far away to cut off any cb appearances.

Yes I agree with you there. Any defender recommend I should swap him with next GW? I have 0.4 left ITB.

Why is everybody sleeping on lingard? Goal threat and on pens.

      Pogba is on pens.

Lingard took it upon himself to take that one the other day but unlikely that happens again.

Pogba has missed a couple this season, whoever scored last, takes next

Any ideas if Hennessey starts? Deliberating whether to keep to transfer to Fab for a hit as I don't have a bench GK?
