Captains

Captain Sensible – Kane battles in-form midfield assets for the armband

Another Gameweek deadline is upon us already, meaning another tricky decision over which Fantasy asset to captain.

The usual premium options are dominating the thinking in the Fantasy community, though there is a cluster of in-form, mid-price midfield options that are also entering the equation in Gameweek 20.

We’ve gone over those performing well in our still-live captain poll before carrying out a comparison between the individuals themselves, their teams and their opponents in order to pinpoint the best candidate.

Captain Poll

Just as he did in Gameweek 19, Harry Kane (£12.6m) leads the way from Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) at the top of our captain poll.

The Spurs striker enjoys a home fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday and is out in front with a 36.1% share of the vote, with the Egyptian sitting in second place on 13.3% (all figures given are correct at the time of writing).

Like his aforementioned team-mate, Son Heung-min (£8.8m) has both form and fixtures on his side going into Gameweek 20 and takes “bronze” with an 8.2% share.

The Korean midfielder is neck and neck with Eden Hazard (£11.1m), however, having accrued only a handful of votes more than the Chelsea winger-turned-false nine.

Paul Pogba’s (£8.1m) resurgence as a Fantasy option continues after two double-digit hauls and he lies fifth in our poll having gained 7.2% of all votes cast. It would have been difficult to imagine Pogba as a viable mid-price midfielder let alone captaincy candidate a fortnight ago, such has been his transformation under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Everton pair Richarlison (£7.0m) and Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.3m) follow next with 3.2% and 2.7% of the vote respectively, while Sergio Aguero (£11.2m) is the most popular Manchester City option among our voters having garnered 2.1%.

Fresh off the back of double-digit hauls in Gameweek 19, Felipe Anderson (£7.3m) and Lucas Digne (£5.1m) complete our top ten.

Best defender up to 5.6 to swap Kolasinac for? Current defence is Luiz, Doherty, Digne and AWB. Don’t have any Pool but next 2 fixtures aren’t great which puts me off TAA and Lovren.

Ok how’s this for a plan... Wait for the City update after the embargo is lifted at 13:30 and if Fernandinho is still out, ditch Sterling for Haz (-4) but if he’s back, stick.

    A) Good plan
    B) Just do it now
    C) Stick with Sterling anyway

    2017/2018 Season GK Strategy:

    - Invest in a premium GK (DDG) for 75% season

    2018/2019 Season GK Strategy:

    - Invest in a 4.5 GK (Fab) and 4.0 Fodder.

Is this a wise strategy or are two rotating 4.5 GK better from the midway point?

    FYI:

    - Purchased Ederson from GW1 - GW9 (49 points)
    - Went onto Fab from GW11 to date (38 points)

Not really that drastic a benefit as keeping Ederson would have achieved 30 odd points anyway, but I guess the extra money invested may have made a substantial difference...

What GK Strategy are you planning for the GWs ahead?

Personally I prefer the 4.5-4.0 combo, as it leaves an extra £1m to invest in midfield, and leaves 3 spots outfield for all premium teams. Last season the DDG premium option would have been better than this but most seasons ive found it better to go for cheaper GK's

After this season concludes, I will do an overall points comparison for

        2017/2018

        Premium: DDG
        Rotating: Fab 4.5
        Fodder: Fab 4.0

        2018/2019

        Premium: Ederson 4.0
        Rotating: Fab 4.5
        Fodder: Fab 4.0

Will pave the way for my GK selection 2019/2020

Would be interesting to see that comparison, again this is just me but personally I'm not keen on rotating keepers as you inevitably lose clean sheets by playing the wrong keeper. For me investing just 9.5m in 2 keepers, the main one who gets a few cs and decent save points (Fab being the example). Just gives more funds and flexibility throughout the team. But I'm sure there are plenty who have had success with the other methods...

It’s possible if he mixed the tactics up, maybe if he tries something for Liverpool. I would guess that Sterling would drop out, if any of them do. I think it would be silly to break up the Silva/Sane combination on the left. I would play Sterling but it’s possible that he’d be dropped

    G2G? Bench right?

    Fabianski
    Alonso, Robertson, Digne
    Sane, Salah(C), Martial, Richarlison, Anderson
    Kane, Wilson

    Hamer, Ings, Doherty, Bennett

So many midfield double ups looking good now

    Siggy, Rich
    Felipe, Snod
    Pogba, Martial

That’s before even getting to Haz, Mo and also ignoring Raz, Sané, KDB

    Midfield has truly gone bananas

1 up top the way forward?

3-5-2 looks the way for me.

I’m struggling with the captaincy this week more than ever. I want to captain Rashford but I’ve suddenly got cold feet not I’ve taken the Lukaku need more seriously. Surely even if Lukaku doesn’t start Rashford could easily be taken off for him anytime after the hour mark.

So that leaves me with Kane, who I’m just not convinced with this week.
