Six Premier League matches take place this evening before the Gameweek 21 showpiece of Manchester City v Liverpool brings the frenetic festive fixture schedule to a close ahead of FA Cup third round weekend.

Four of tonight’s games kick off at 19:45 GMT, with Bournemouth v Watford (due to a delay) and Newcastle United v Manchester United getting underway at 20:00 GMT.

There aren’t too many surprises in the team selections this evening, with many of the more widely-owned Fantasy Premier League assets getting a start.

Marcus Rashford has recovered from a groin problem to keep his place in Manchester United’s starting XI, with Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial also unsurprisingly named in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Jesse Lingard, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez make the bench.

Fabian Schar replaces the injured Federico Fernandez in Rafael Benitez’s only alteration, while Florian Lejeune makes the matchday squad for the first time in 2018/19.

Eden Hazard is again deployed on the left flank as Alvaro Morata replaces the injured Olivier Giroud, but Chelsea are otherwise unchanged from the side that beat Crystal Palace 1-0 in Gameweek 20.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has really shuffled his pack for this encounter at Stamford Bridge, making eight changes – including the recall of Danny Ings – following the 3-1 defeat against Manchester City.

In the delayed kick-off on the south coast, Ryan Fraser returns to the Bournemouth starting XI after his benching at Old Trafford.

Javi Gracia has made five changes to his team, with Jose Holebas, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Troy Deeney among the players handed a recall.

Andy Carroll makes his first Premier League start in over a year for West Ham, who have new signing Samir Nasri among their substitutes.

Glenn Murray replaces Florin Andone up front in Chris Hughton’s only change.

Joao Moutinho and Helder Costa return to the Wolves starting XI, while Jordan Ayew gets his first start since Gameweek 17 as Roy Hodgson switches to a 4-3-3.

David Wagner has made two changes to his team and seemingly reverted to a 4-2-3-1, while Sean Dyche trusts the same 11 players who beat West Ham three days ago.

Bournemouth XI (3-5-2): Begovic, Cook, Ake, Daniels, Brooks, Lerma, Gosling, Fraser, Stanislas, Wilson, King.

Watford XI (4-4-2): Foster, Femenia, Cathcart, Mariappa, Holebas, Sema, Capoue, Doucoure, Pereyra, Deulofeu, Deeney.

Chelsea XI (4-3-3): Arrizabalaga, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Alonso, Jorginho, Kante, Barkley, Hazard, Willian, Morata.

Southampton XI (3-4-3): Gunn, Yoshida, Vestergaard, Bednarek, Valery, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Cedric, Armstrong, Ings, Redmond.

Huddersfield Town XI (4-2-3-1): Lossl, Kongolo, Schindler, Zanka, Hadergjonaj, Hogg, Billing, Mbenza, Pritchard, Kachunga, Mounie.

Burnley XI (4-4-2): Heaton, Bardsley, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor, Cork, Westwood, Gudmundsson, McNeil, Barnes, Wood.

West Ham United XI (4-4-2): Fabianski, Zabaleta, Ogbonna, Diop, Cresswell, Rice, Obiang, Snodgrass, Anderson, Arnautovic, Carroll.

Brighton and Hove Albion XI (4-3-3): Button, Montoya, Dunk, Duffy, Bernardo, Stephens, Propper, Gross, March, Murray, Locadia.

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI (3-4-3): Patricio, Bennett, Boly, Coady, Doherty, Saiss, Moutinho, Jonny, Costa, Cavaleiro, Jimenez.

Crystal Palace XI (4-3-3): Guaita, Wan-Bissaka, Tomkins, Sakho, van Aanholt, McArthur, Milivojević, Kouyaté, Townsend, Ayew, Zaha.

Newcastle United XI (3-4-2-1): Dubravka, Yedlin, Schär, Lascelles, Dummett, Ritchie, Hayden, Diame, Atsu, Pérez, Rondón.

Manchester United XI (4-3-3): De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Lindelöf, Shaw, Matic, Herrera, Pogba, Mata, Martial, Rashford.

Not much mention of Lovren although he looks to be rising, seems like a cheap way to double up on pool defence with TAA at 4.9, is he looking like he’ll keep his spot?

Until Gomez is back, he's pretty much as nailed as they come. Problem is that that might only be one more gameweek.

How nailed is TAA now? (I’ve got no Liverpool defence. Am considering Fabianski + Alderweireld to Lloris + TAA). Good idea?!

Not very but he gets a high PPG when he plays and doesn't do cameos. As long as you have playing subs he's a great player to own.

he played 15 games this season, that's nailed enough for me

If number of games played were a good way to calculate nailedness, 15/20 wouldn't cut it for me.

fair enough, but to me starting 3/4's of games means he's more nailed than not

I know. Just one reason why number of games played isn't the best evidence for nailedness.

When available for selection and chosen to start is naildeness (is that a word)?

                        • 10 Years

That's a large part of it (especially nailedness of the past), but there's also more context to consider.

Injuries to Gomez and Lovren have previously allowed consistent selection of TAA and continues until Gomez returns (at the start of the season , Lovren was given time out after the World Cup, too).

Then there is form. TAA seemed on the verge of losing his spot after several poor performances in a row, before an injury to Lovren (I think) made him nailed for his spot again. TAA therefore, is only nailed as long as his form is good (imo), which for me is not nailedness, since he is bound to drop in form sometime.

Then there's the fact that actually he hasn't been selected for 100% of the games he was available for.

Then there's the form of other players, e.g. Gomez as a right-back and Lovren as a centre-back. Form for either in those positions reduces TAA's nailedness. Clyne also impressed recently, although it does seem clear he's never going to be favoured.

Then there's tactical decisions from Klopp: Gomez seemed to be used as a RB in games which Klopp wanted more stability, which could be a useful option going forward.

And then there's minutes: typically we talked about nailedness as starts, but I would say specifically it means playing more than 60 mins (to me). I think TAA is more in danger of being subbed off early than the other Pool defenders due to poor form or for the tactical reasons above.

I think one of the important factors could be set pieces. TAA is one of the main set piece takers, but now Shaqiri is starting more games, perhaps the need to start TAA for that reason is lessened.

So yeah, I think he's a greatFPL option, but I don't think he's nailed. I also don't think that playing 15/20 games (or almost all the games he's been available for - or even all the games he's been available for) is enough to call him nailed for future games, because you need to think about context (aka all the other factors).

Hope that is a reasonable response 😀 Sorry for the length

i think most people would agree liverpool's strongest starting 11 would have TAA in it, he has already played 3/4's of their games and is a really cheap way into the meanest defense in the league, sure he gets random benching's but so does Robbo, and no one is gonna say Robbo isen't nailed because he didn't start 100% of their games

Yeah to be honest he’s be the last one to go out the 3 just said all of the premium assets I own to get a wider picture. I’m tempted to get rid of hazard but only recently got him is making me hesitant. Plus auba is getting a lot of big chances while his fixtures after Chelsea are amazing bar city obviously

Do people think it’s still 2 out of 4

Out of Sterling, Kane, Hazard and Salah?

I have Kane and Hazard. Don’t want rid of Kane but seem to be the expert at having the heavy hitters blanks. Sterling blanked twice, switched to Hazard who then blanked twice and repeat. Forever chasing their points.

I’ll almost certainly swap salah for hazard after Newcastle too.

    Anyone else feel the same?

My team value is only 104.

Seen mark sticks by his sterling, salah and hazard combo. But he has no spurs.

Kane is staying for me, so adding salah and hazard to him means no Man City, as sane would likely have to go for salah, doesn’t sit well as I still think they are the best attacking team in the league.

It’s very tough, roll FTs and go with fixtures is my plan going forward, they are all great options.

            Which is good I guess.

Means all teams aren’t the same.

Salah and Kane I’m moving towards after hazard plays castle, and hoping sane can “cover” Raheem

I'm responding to your comment saying not to worry too much about what people seem to be thinking in general, since it seemed to be what you were trying to find out. But maybe you intended to imply something else by what you wrote.

There are approximately 3 home CSs to every 2 away CSs. And there are approximately 3 home goals to every 2 away goals. Those ratios have been pretty constant (plus/minus 10%) for many seasons.

Home fixtures are only overrated if you believe the advantage to be bigger than 3:2. Or if you imagine that 3:2 applies to every specific game. But as an overall balance, it is a statistical fact.

Anyone else surprised by the amount of Hazard captainers in the top 10k? I was expecting Kane to be the most popular captain but it wasn't even close.

(not saying this after the fact, I mentioned this before the Hazard blank too)

    1. SADIO SANÉ
      • 10 Years

yeah, feel like a bit of an idiot but was pleasantly surprised so many did the same - thought it would be closer than that

      1. Pierce34

        7 years, 4 months ago

Well, Hazard still a good choice (though not in hindsight obviously), I was just expecting Kane away to Cardiff to be the obvious captain choice.

On the other hand, what made me feel like a bit of an idiot was Rashford to Lacazette for -4 😆

        1. SADIO SANÉ
          • 10 Years
          7 years, 4 months ago

oh god that's not good 😀 tbh I was set on Kane (c) Son (vc) for this game when I wildcarded a couple of weeks ago, but Poch saying the word 'tired' after the last game made me panic 😐

          1. Pierce34
            • 10 Years
            7 years, 4 months ago

Yeah I did consider that Poch quote too, and then I decided not to overthink it. Instead I decided to focus my overthinking on Lacazette 😀 At least he scored so it wasn't a complete disaster, and I have a pretty decent score, but that hit made the difference between treading water for another week or making serious inroads in the top 10k.

            1. SADIO SANÉ

I thought Newcastle and Spurs would be tricky fixtures for United that wouldn't be high scoring. I also thought Arsenal would put a lot past Fulham (and West Ham next week for that matter).

I was right in a way, except that Rashford was involved in everything Untied did, and Lacazette in only 1 in 4.

Same. Even though I didn't 'believe' in Rashford's flag, I still thought he wouldn't play 90 especially if he felt a groin niggle last time out.

Having watched Chelsea play lately, in hindsight, it was a silly pick. Injuries affecting us, and just the fact we cannot convert. That factored in with the rest vs. City for some SOU players, should have been warning enough.

After seeing Captain Sensible I became more comfortable, but should have listened to my Chelsea-supporting gut really 🙂

Because he is the absolute talisman of West Ham, so nailed it hurts and involved in everything. He started the season with a knee injury and was too important to be rested so it never got a chance to heal. He looks alright now. Played all last season iirc, and his goal involvement stats are frightening, second only to Salah over the past 12 months

Too many good low priced forwards to waste a spot on Kamara. Consider yourself well advised
