Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has selected something of a make-shift defence ahead of Saturday’s trip to Brighton.

With Dejan Lovren (£4.9m) ruled out, midfielder Fabinho (£5.5m) has been named at centre-back alongside Virgil van Dijk (£6.4m), having played there against Wolves in the FA Cup on Monday night.

While that may not instil confidence in a Liverpool clean sheet at the Amex Stadium today, there is encouragement on the bench as Joel Matip (£4.9m), missing since Gameweek 16, is named among the substitutes.

Brighton look to have gone for a slight change of shape, switching to a 4-2-3-1, with Glenn Murray (£6.3m) leading the line and still in search of his first home goal since Gameweek 15.

Recently discovered budget midfielder Dwight McNeil (£4.4m) continues to hold down a place on the left flank of Burnley’s attack, while Ashley Barnes (£5.6m) strings together eighth consecutive start for the Clarets.

Callum Paterson (£5.1m) returns to the centre-forward position for Cardiff, while Victor Camarasa (£4.6m) is used in a traditional central midfield role for the Bluebirds.

Huddersfield hand a Premier League debut to Jason Puncheon (£4.2m), who has recently arrived from Crystal Palace, in a right attacking midfield position.

Vicente Guaita (£4.2m) holds down his place in Crystal Palace’s goal for the sixth match in a row, as Roy Hodgson goes for a 4-3-3 formation against Watford.

The Hornets continue with their 4-4-2 system, Gerard Deulofeu (£5.5m) and Troy Deeney (£5.9m) leading the line for Javi Gracia’s men.

Meanwhile, James Maddison (£6.8m) returns to the Leicester City line-up after an unused substitutes role against Everton.

Today’s visitors to the King Power Stadium Southampton have selected Shane Long (£4.7m) as the lone striker with Danny Ings (£5.6m) and Charlie Austin (£5.5m) both out.

Brighton XI: Button; Bong, Duffy, Dunk, Montoya; Pröpper, Stephens; Locadia, Groß, March; Murray.

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Fabinho, Robertson, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Shaqiri, Firmino, Mane, Salah.

Burnley XI: Heaton; Bardsley, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor; Hendrick, Cork, Westwood, McNeil; Wood, Barnes.

Fulham XI: Rico; Odoi, Ream, Le Marchand; Christie, Chambers, Seri, Bryan; Schürrle, Mitrovic, Sessegnon.

Cardiff XI: Etheridge; Ecuele Manga, Morrison, Bamba, Bennett; Gunnarsson; Mendez-Laing, Arter, Camarasa, Hoilett; Paterson.

Huddersfield XI: Lössl; Hadergjonaj, Schindler, Zanka, Durm; Billing, Hogg; Kachunga, Pritchard, Puncheon; Mounie.

Crystal Palace XI: Guaita; Wan-Bissaka, Tomkins, Sakho, van Aanholt; Kouyaté, Milivojevic, McArthur; Townsend, Ayew, Zaha.

Watford XI: Foster; Kiko Femenía, Mariappa, Cathcart, Holebas; Doucouré, Capoue; Hughes, Pereyra; Deulofeu, Deeney.

Leicester XI: Schmeichel; Ricardo Pereira, Morgan, Maguire, Chilwell; Choudhury, Mendy, Ndidi; Albrighton, Vardy, Maddison.

Southampton XI: McCarthy; Bednarek, Stephens, Vestergaard; Valery, Oriol Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Targett; Redmond, Armstrong; Long.

Just slightly bitter as an Auba captained. The plan was to ship him for Salah anyway after this deadline. Just hoped he would give me a nice parting gift, fully expect a brace next week against Chelsea.

Fraser has been backed to do well against 5 of nxt 6 games in an article during the week.

No plans to do right now but Auba is a big let down most of the time and not captain material.

        1. AndyCook
          7 years, 6 months ago

What I infer from this is that Kane is captain material but he is no bigger a points scorer nor a more reliable points scorer in terms of being a flat track bully as far as I can see. Fraser might do well but he’s no better a player this year than last so can easily go cold for the rest of the season

That article doesn't take account of the fact that 2 of those games, and 4 of their next 8, are against big six opposition.

What a waste of unbelievable talent Arnatuavic is. 29, hasn't done anything at any club hes been at other than show them glimpses of what he can do , never been consistent, never played at a top 4 club...and now he's off to challenge for titles that most players would be embarrassed to even have included on their Wikipedia page.

Depends on your mentality. Professional sport has a shelf life, you never know when a big injury is around the corner...Arnie has had his fair share already. His body is falling apart and now he has a chance to earn 10mil a year for the next 4 and set himself up for whatever comes next. Fair play to him. If he was playing for his boyhood club and had always dreamed of titles then it would be a different story....

    In trouble here (Captained Auba).
My options are limited if I am selling him to bring in Salah as well.

    Fabianski.
    Holebas, Digne, Doherty.
    Sane, Hazard, Pogba, Rich, Felipe.
    Auba, Kane.
    Hamer, Bednarek, AWB, Kamara.
    2ft, 0.1m ITB.

    Next GW either-
    1. Felipe + Kane -> Salah + Jimenez. (Exact cash).
    2. Felipe + Hazard -> Salah + Camarasa (-4) leaves 0.5m to bring in TAA for Holebas next GW.
    3. Felipe + Auba -> Salah + DCL (5.3m).

      Sky sports. ALEXANDER-ARNOLD CONCERN

A potential concern for Liverpool in the warm-ups as Trent Alexander-Arnold may have suffered a slight injury.

He stretched for a ball, stayed down and then looked a bit uncomfortable as he twisted and tried to shake it off while speaking to Jurgen Klopp.

No news of a change yet, but James Milner is staying out and warming up while the rest of the team have gone in.

So it seems Alexis and Ozil were indeed two key players and Arse should have given them both a good contract?

    But what do I know.

Auba hey.. still top scorer but Arsenal not so consistent. Pondering Auba to Aguero if Kun scores this week...

Would give me some City cover I’m lacking and also frees up 0.1 to upgrade Hamer.... hmm

    Better move

Alonso and Snodgrass > Shaw and Sane - 4

    or

Alonso and Jiminez > Bednarek and Kane -4

    Rest of the team is

    AWB/TAA/Kola/Digne

Haz/Rich/Moura(Just did Son > Moura too hence the -4 for the move)/Pogba

    Auba/Rash

I transferred in TAA this week. Bennett against Man City to come in if TAA is injured. WTF.

TAA being out is good for me.

Benched AWB, so sorts that issue out and it means no CS for Pool imo.

      Same here, I don't mind.

My cup rival also has TAA but his first sub is Holebas. He has Wan-B in starting eleven.

Really...don't mind at all. Alonso, Digne, Wan-B will beat Holebas, Keane, Wan-B.
