Attacking double-ups focus of latest Watchlist Update

Effective attacking double-ups are the theme of our most recent Watchlist update.

With Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) largely dominating the captaincy debate and his ownership increasing each week, Fantasy Premier League managers need other tactics to keep getting green arrows.

As discussed on this week’s Scoutcast, attacking double-ups could be the way to go, and that was confirmed in part when we recently updated our Watchlist.

What we found was that the colleagues of some of the game’s most effective assets are also looking ready for investment.

Starting with Salah’s team-mates, we pushed Sadio Mané (£9.5m) and Roberto Firmino (£9.3m) up in their respective positions. In the last four Gameweeks, both players have had more efforts on goal than the Egyptian. With Liverpool’s fixtures remaining favourable and involvement in all the upcoming Blank Gameweeks, either one from the pair could make excellent partners in our Fantasy teams for Salah.

In spite of their upcoming Blank in Gameweek 27, both Raheem Sterling (£11.3m) and Leroy Sané (£9.7m) have strong credentials. Between Gameweeks 24 and 26, the fixtures still suggest attacking involvements for Manchester City, with Newcastle (away), Arsenal (home) and Chelsea (home) their next three matches. Obviously, the defending champions will have a corresponding Double Gameweek at some point, for which owning both Sterling and Sané could prove a devastating combination. That said, we have pulled the German down a little for now, with the impact of Benjamin Mendy‘s (£6.1m) return currently difficult to assess.

On the other side of Manchester is another strong looking double-up with both Paul Pogba (£8.7m) and Marcus Rashford (£7.7m) at the top ends of their respective positions. The former is the second-best midfield option after registering 10 attacking returns in his last six Premier League outings. However, with his ownership now just under 40%, owning him may not be enough to cover yourself against large Manchester United wins. The recent injury to Harry Kane (£12.5m) has accelerated Rashford’s rise to prominence, breaking the record for most-transferred in ahead of any Gameweek last time around. He has seven attacking returns since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over, making him just as viable as Pogba. The two of them have very high ownership among the top 10,000 FPL managers as well so they both look must-haves for a run of games featuring Burnley (home), Leicester (away), Fulham (away), Crystal Palace (away) and Southampton (home).

The recent injury to Dele Alli (£8.9m), which will keep him out until March sees Christian Eriksen (£9.4m) slot in as the obvious replacement for him on the Watchlist. Even though Spurs are now without a selection of key options, it does increase the likelihood that Eriksen will be involved in their attacking returns. With Son Heung-min (£8.6m) and South Korea now out of the Asian Cup, he may reappear soon, once we know more about a specific return date.

The other big change in midfield is that Wolves man Diogo Jota (£5.9m) has come into the frame, replacing Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.3m). His hat-trick against Leicester has drawn the attention of the Fantasy community to him and his fixtures make him very appealing. Wolves face West Ham (home), Everton (away), Newcastle (home), Bournemouth (away), Huddersfield (away) and Cardiff (home) in the next six Gameweeks.

Further up the pitch, Gonzalo Higuain (£9.5m) makes a tentative debut appearance among the forwards, replacing the elusive Marko Arnautovic (£6.9m). While the Argentinian comes to England on the back of a bad first half of 2018/19, he does present a potentially appealing cheaper alternative to Eden Hazard (£11.0m), who has slipped down to third in the midfield bracket after struggling in the false-nine position.

In defence, Matt Doherty (£5.2m) holds onto second place, despite his poor form of late. The main reason for his high positioning is the potential the next six Gameweeks offer for Wolves. As we’ve already mentioned, their fixtures look incredible, and with little else to excite us in defence, the man who has shown what he can do earlier this season is tipped to rediscover his spark.

Sead Kolasinac (£4.9m) is the biggest riser in this position, with no defender managing more touches in the penalty box since Gameweek 20 than the Arsenal man. The Gunners are not especially renowned for clean sheets, but shutouts look achievable against Cardiff and Huddersfield in Gameweeks 24 and 26, while Kolasinac’s price makes him conveniently benchable when Arsenal travel to face Manchester City in Gameweek 25.

Everybody’s favourite budget man Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£4.5m) returns to the Watchlist this week as Crystal Palace’s schedule turns very blue on the season ticker. Only two teams rank higher than the Eagles for defensive potential on it over the next six Gameweeks. Wan-Bissaka takes the place of Sol Bamba (£4.6m).

His Palace colleague Vicente Guaita (£4.2m) goes in the opposite direction though after picking up an injury last time out. Furthermore, Roy Hodgson bolstered his options in the goalkeeping department by confirming the signing of Lucas Perri on Thursday. Conveniently replacing Guaita as the budget option in our goalkeeper section is Brighton’s David Button (£4.0m), still filling in for Mat Ryan (£4.4m) during his Asian Cup exploits.

Meanwhile, Marcos Alonso (£6.6m) continues his freefall down the defensive charts, with his place on the Watchlist very much at jeopardy.

If therr are dgws for both City and Chelsea (Eve and Brighton as well), how many players would y'all get and who for gw25 keeping in mind they'll blank gw27?

Four maybe? Any more could lose points taking GW27 into account.

I currently have just Digne and Richarlison. I'd likely take a hit or two and go with 5

I think Ederson could be a great shout to get an additional DGW player, easily benching him for the alternative keeper in 27

To state the obvious, there's no benefit to having double gameweek players if they are also going to have blanks. They'll play the same number of matches. You only benefit if you can rotate around the fixtures. With that in mind, I'm reducing city and Chelsea assets over the next few gameweeks using free transfers, with a view to wildcard/free hit as necessary with the double gameweeks coming up.

Agree - only have one City player and looking to ship Hazard, Richarlison ahead of GW27. Stacking up on City last thing on my mind... no way they won’t get rotated in a double game week with strength of their squad.

Spot on. I’ve got 6 guys from the GW27 blankers and 4 transfers to make the necessary moves to field a decent starting XI.

I plan to move Sane out for Son next GW, then Hazard and Richarlison our the following GW for Mane and Pogba, with Keane being ditched on the eve of the blanks, leaving me with 12 guys with fixtures and Laporte/David Luiz on the bench.

Have 4 (Sterling, Sane, Digne, Richarlison) so hoping City v Everton is on the double week but Chelsea and Brighton isn't. If there are two double gameweek fixtures I'm really going to have to think about this as I want Son in my team and would want to get and triple captain Hazard for that double.

Maybe downgrade Kun after this gw? as he could get his minutes managed with G.Jesus hungry for more game time, then sell Richarlison for Son and use the remaining cash on Snoddy. I think there is a blank for City in 27. What do you think?

                    I think so

Thinking about future doubles and triple captain options

                    A. City always going to be rotation risk
                    B. No Liverpool dgw
                    C. Don’t think we can get arsenal
                    D. Spurs perhaps but then depends on fixtures. Think they may fall paired with Liverpool or city as one of them
                    E. Are united players strong enough or nailed enough to triple.
                    F. Leaves Chelsea and hazard. And usefully the fixtures would be great. Then again he is a nightmare to captain

So we see four fixtures of note this week and after their FA Cup exit Arsenal (503DS) are handed the easiest fixture of the week with Cardiff visiting the Emirates. Manchester City (481DS) show up next best with Liverpool (455DS) not that far behind as they welcome Leicester to Anfield. Manchester United (388DS) should see off Burnley at Old Trafford too.

GW23 saw the Mods & Cons top of the table finish as:

                  1) Not Salah La Land (D Munday) 1,481 (74)
                  2) Ragabolly (M Rogab) 1,471 (71)
                  3) Sutherns Comfort (M Sutherns) 1,465 (66)

Took my first ever -8 hit which saw a net gain of 13 points and a rise of one place up to 13th and now only 22 points off the top 10 🙂

I don’t think stats take into account new manager boost for Huddersfield (v Everton). I doubt if they don’t score in that game. People need to use there instincts more than just follow stats on here so much!

If you take your current overall points and divide it by the amount of gw’s played (23) and then multiply by total gw’s (38) it gives you a rough predicted overall score.

                  Current points. 1426
                  Predicted points. 2356

If I reach that score it will by far be my best overall points total and hopefully break into the top10k for the first time, how does your look?

I know it’s only a predicted rough score and could be dramatically higher or lower, for all those who wish to shoot me down!

Does anyone recall how many points they scored from their bench when playing bench boost in a DGW without any bench w*nkery? I remember it being very disappointing last season and am considering playing it in SGW25 with:

                  McCarthy (bur)
                  Ings (bur)
                  Doherty (eve)
                  AWB (FUL)

Any thoughts on the points value of BB? The most I have benched this season is 14 so anymore than that would be great I imagine.

I played it last year in DGW, got a disappointing 16 points.
I think I would be happy if I get 20 points or more when I play it this year in one of the DGWs

Last season. Chips were hopeless. SGW players outscored DGW players.
Season before. Chips were a dream. DGW players outscored SGW players.

If you've got 4 nailed DGW'ers when you bench boost you can expect a 16 points boost to your GW score in appearance points alone, add in a CS or two and the possibility of attacking returns and I think 25-30 points from BB is a realistic target.

                    My benched points this season has been;

                    GW1; 31
                    GW7; 15
                    GW8; 23
                    GW12; 13
                    GW13; 13
                    GW17; 15
                    GW19; 15
                    GW21; 14

So I'm hoping for something along these lines in a SGW, would want at least 25 from a DGW.

Triple captain, benchboost , wildcard after maturing your selling value, navigation of BGWs and DGWs with planning means I’d hope to average weekly better scorers in forthcoming weeks, than previous 23.

Has to be in three weeks time.

                      Few means 3 or more.

Too early. Haz could become esential again if he links up good with Haz. Auba is top scorer and has good fixtures until the end of season. Only Son looks good to me. Sane rotation prone, Firmino I would rather have double def + Mo ofcourse

Well, my team looks pretty good overall. I just brought Pogba in and would love to have Son or Sane which is difficult without downgrading Hazard and/or Auba...Got 0 FT, so i wanna wait how the next two gw's go anyways and then decide! Thanks lads!

I got ridiculed last night for asking if Arsenal now play in GW27 due to losing last night.

                  Do they?

                      Not paying any attention really.

I thought there were some blanks in GW27 dependant on teams cup success

Only the Man City and Chelsea games are blank on GW27
                        That won’t change.
Nor will any other teams blank on that GW

2 different cups mate. The teams blanking in 27 are the Carabao finalists and their GW27 opponents, so Chelsea, City, Everton & Brighton. And that's it.

Only Manchester City, Chelsea, Brighton and Everton don't play in GW27, due to fixture classes with the EFL Cup final. Arsenal's loss last night does increase their chances of having a game in GW31 and GW33 however.

FA cup and Carabao Cup are two different things...and since Arsenal lost, your question seems kind of a non issue anyway.

So yes, Arsenal will play in GW27

They play one top 6 team in their next 7, so fixtures look relatively appealing and I feel like since the WHU game in GW16 they're starting to show a bit of promise.

Townsend being just 5.8M I feel like I'd prefer him over Deulofeu at 5.5M

                  What’s a better combo?

                  A. Hazard + Jimenez

                  B. Higuain + Son

I’m tempted to use my 2FTs next week to switch to B (assuming no Chelsea DGW in wk 25)
