While we’ll be bringing you the usual team news video and article write-up on Friday, the earlier-than-usual Gameweek 27 deadline has prompted this initial summary of the press conferences and medical bulletins that have happened already.

Things We’ve Learned

The headline news came from Mauricio Pochettino’s presser, with talk of Harry Kane‘s (ankle) return dominating proceedings.

The Spurs boss said of his star striker:

He’s very good. I think we need to assess him one training session tomorrow and then decide but I think he’s doing well. I am happy with him and maybe he’s going to be available to be part of the squad.

He’s not ahead of schedule but everyone knows that Harry is an animal, he wants to be ready as soon as possible. He made everything to try to recover and, of course, the injury that he suffered is tough to recover but it’s more the possibility that when you push, you push. In some injuries, you cannot push too much, because always you need to be careful. When it’s a massive injury it’s completely different.

But of course, we’re so happy that in the last ten days he was fantastic, back in training again, and he can be available again. It’s going to be a massive impact for everyone.

I don’t care if he feels ready or wants to play or not, like another player. I’ll decide myself, with my coaching staff, with the doctor and the medical staff and the sports science staff. Always with every player that came from an injury or illness, always it’s about the structure, when it’s possible to play or not. Of course, if you ask him ten days ago, he was ready to play. But in the end, the last word is always myself. I take the risk, the decision and everything that is going on in the team.

Ben Davies (groin) has also returned to training this week, though Danny Rose (illness) is a minor doubt for the trip to Burnley.

One Spurs player who won’t feature this weekend is Dele Alli (hamstring), with Pochettino providing this update on the injured midfielder:

His progression is good, we are happy. This is the last part of the period of his recovery. Difficult to say: maybe one week, maybe ten days, maybe two weeks. We are going to assess him day by day.

Burnley will again be without Steven Defour (calf), Aaron Lennon (knee) and Jonathan Walters (Achilles), though Sean Dyche confirmed on Thursday that Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Robbie Brady are fit to feature.

Leicester’s fixtures are about to take a turn for the better but those Fantasy managers who were interested in James Maddison and Ben Chilwell might have been slightly deterred by Claude Puel’s comments on Thursday.

The Foxes’ boss said:

We have an issue with Chilwell and Maddison and we will make a point in tomorrow’s training session. It’s not serious but we will see tomorrow.

Manuel Pellegrini delivered his press conference on Wednesday and brought news that Manuel Lanzini (knee) and Samir Nasri (calf) have returned to training.

The West Ham United boss said the pair “maybe” have a chance of featuring against Fulham, though there was no update forthcoming on Fabian Balbuena (knee).

Pellegrini said:

For this game, we have the squad which played most of the games and we will have the squad list on Thursday, and maybe Lanzini and Nasri can be included on that squad list.

They worked not only today but they worked the complete week. We will talk to the medical staff about whether we can use them.

All four playmakers in our squad were injured, which is always difficult, so the return of both of them injects more quality into the squad.

We will analyse Jack Wilshere next week, then we will be more clear about his future.

Claudio Ranieri meanwhile declared that, Alfie Mawson (knee) aside, Fulham have no injury worries – meaning that new signings Lazar Markovic and Havard Nordtveit could be match-fit enough to feature.

Kiko Femenia (hamstring) is Javi Gracia’s only injury-related absentee going into Friday’s game at Cardiff, though Jose Holebas begins a two-match ban for accruing ten yellow cards.

Gracia said:

Roberto [Pereyra] and Isaac [Success] are both ready to compete. Roberto is a very important player, making the difference in a lot of games, scoring goals and assisting. Isaac hasn’t played the same minutes as other players, but the time he played, he played with quality and is helping the team. He’s a good option for us in attack with his power and pace. He is something different for us to help us manage different games.

Prödl is another option for us at centre-back where the players are playing well. It’s always good to have a player of his quality.

Kiko is feeling very well in all the training sessions. For the next game, it’s impossible [for him to play] but I think for the game after, he will be ready.

Sean Morrison (appendix) is back in training for the Bluebirds, but Neil Warnock cast doubt on whether the club captain would feature against the Hornets and provided an update on Victor Camarasa.

On Morrison, Warnock said:

He’s training, he had another tough session yesterday. He’s just got to have a bit of football in his locker. We’ve got three games in a week so it’s pointless rushing him. I’m hoping he’s going to be involved at some stage this week.

On Camarasa:

He has a medical team from Spain that look after him. Sometimes we don’t agree. It’s difficult for Victor because he’s got so many people talking to him. It’s [an ongoing] calf injury. He’s doing most things really well.

Huddersfield have been given a boost by the return of Jonas Lossl and Chris Lowe from illness, while Elias Kachunga has had a less-serious dose of the flu ahead of the trip to Newcastle.

Danny Williams (knee) won’t be ready to play despite a return to training, though Abdelhamid Sabiri (knee) featured for the under-23s last week and may come back into contention.

Managers Yet to Deliver a Press Conference

Unai Emery (Arsenal)
Eddie Howe (Bournemouth)
Roy Hodgson (Crystal Palace)
Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool)
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (Manchester United)
Rafael Benitez (Newcastle United)
Ralph Hasenhuttl (Southampton)
Nuno Espirito Santo (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Injury News That May Be Updated on Friday

  • Laurent Koscielny came off with a muscular injury in Arsenal’s win over BATE on Thursday night, with Unai Emery describing the defender’s substitution as “precautionary”. Ainsley Maitland-Niles missed out through illness.
  • Callum Wilson (knee) and David Brooks (ankle) are thought to be medium-term absentees for Bournemouth and are not currently scheduled to return till March.
  • Jurgen Klopp earlier in the week declared Dejan Lovren (muscle) a major doubt for the trip to Manchester United.
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ruled Anthony Martial (groin) and Jesse Lingard (hamstring) out for “two to three weeks” last Friday but reports in the media suggest the pair could possibly recover for the visit of Liverpool – this has yet to be confirmed by Manchester United, however.
  • Jonjo Shelvey (thigh) has returned to training for Newcastle United.
  • Danny Ings (hamstring) hasn’t been sighted in training this week, though Stuart Armstrong (calf) has been involved.
  • Matt Doherty came off with a knock in the FA Cup win over Bristol City last weekend, though Nuno Espirito Santo appeared to downplay the severity of the injury. Diogo Jota missed out on that victory with a dead leg.

Predicted line-ups and in-depth team news on the eight teams who have held press conferences already can be found here.

28-29 a good chance for CS ... and how nailed is Boruc anyways?

Begovic was dropped. Apparently him had a subsequent row. Howe denies it's that bad. Boruc 2 home CS in a row and good game against Liverpool 6 saves could've been more than 3-0. Nothing points to Begovic coming back and I always thought he was the worst keeper in the league before dropped

I've cracked it. Finally managed to put a plan together to dead-end my team by GW31 🙂

In theory, it allows me to keep Rashford, Pogba, Son, AWB, Bednarek and Patricio for the later doubles.

Apart from the obvious, "you can't plan that far ahead", can you see any players I've overlooked and should be targeting?

I quite like that given Bournemouth's fixtures, we'll have a very clear idea of who Howe's first choice keeper is for the remainder of the season by GW31.

I'm going to leave enough ITB for Begovic just in case. It has meant going for Rice over Chilwell, however.

Yep, that's it... FH in 32, then I get my 31 team back for 33.

It's a good point about whether what I'm left with is good enough! Let me update the sheet with GW33 and report back.

It's not great tbh 😕 I'd need Palace to lose to Watford in the FA Cup to field 11 before transfers. Some very undesirable matchups such as Bednarek vs Liverpool and Rice away to Chelsea.

It's going to need some more work this.

Important Technical Question (not another bloody RMT)

I'm building my team with Double GWK32 in mind and need to know how many free transfers I will have until then. Easy enough, but I'm using Free Hit in Blank GWK31 I need to know if using that chip I will lose the free transfer for that week?

If you have 1 this week, you have 4 for 27-30, FH31, then 1 in DGW32 so 5.

I have a technical question more curiosity than FPL related. If Schär got 2 YC in one game would miss 1 game but would mean 10 YC so would he get 2 games or 1 for 2nd YC red plus 2 so 3 total?

Great question! Every league has its own suspension rules which may vary. I think the second yellow card is automatically counted as the red card but the first yellow will still count as a yellow card, that will mean 9 yellow cards for schär from the game.

    Fabianski (Button)
    Robertson, Pereira, Doherty, AWB (TAA)
    Salah, Son, Pogba (Puncheon, Richarlison)
    Aubameyang, Rashford, Jimenez

    0FT, 1.8m ITB.

    GTG?

Looking ahead (and purely hypothetical moves), with free transfers alone I could potentially put out something like this for GW31:

      Fabianski
      Robertson, Alexander-Arnold, Pereira
      Salah, Hazard, Richarlison, Fraser, Puncheon
      Vardy, King

Would also work for GW33, with FH on 32.

Aside from the chips, depends on the relative states of your teams and preparedness for the upcoming blanks.

A big swing of points can happen in only a few weeks.

With that kind of gap my advice would simply be to make the decisions that you feel will gain the most points, and not to chase the way they're playing.

Have found your team and his from the link above.

Given that he's currently top 10k and you're outside the top 100k, you're basically going to have to hope that what you do goes very sweetly and that he falls far enough that you'll meet somewhere in the middle.

        BGW thought.

Spurs could well have Brighton at home in 33. Millwall are no mugs, at home and dangerous from set pieces. Brughton dont so away and are vulnerable from set plays.

I definitely want a slot for Son and Kane for 33. That means going into 31 with Son on bench and enough funds for Kane.

Anyone who doesn’t have those 2 and/or a Spurs defender in reach could suffer in 33

Not that anyone cares, but I've finally settled on a tentative plan 😆
Posting for my own future reference as much as anything, but would appreciate comments if you notice anything untoward. My team:

    Patrício (Hamer)
    Robbo, TAA, Doherty, AWB (Digne)
    Son(C), Pogba, Martial, (Sterling, Sane)
    Aubameyang, Rashford, Solanke

    GW27: Hamer ➡ Boruc
    GW28: Aubameyang ➡ Aguero
    GW29: Digne ➡ Luiz
    GW29: Sane/Pogba/Son/Martial ➡ Kante
    GW30: Doherty ➡ Azpi/Rudiger
    GW31: FH
    GW32: TC Aguero

    Patrício (Boruc)
    Azpi, Luiz, AWB, (Robbo, TAA)
    Pogba, Martial, Sterling, Sane, Kante
    Aguero(TC), Rashford, (Solanke)

    GW33: Buy at least 2 more players (2FTs). E.g.:

    Patrício (Boruc)
Azpi, Luiz, Robbo, TAA, AWB(55% chance of fixture)
    *Mane(C), Kante, (Sterling, Pogba, Martial)
    *Aubameyang, Solanke (Rashford)

    GW34: WC
    GW35: BB

All for freeeeee! (With the option for hits along the way - most others will be planning mutiple hits anyway). Plenty can change, maybe even tomorrow/today, but feels good to have arrived at something that seems to work.

Any thoughts on this, besides the fact that Chelsea are a bit tosh? I'm thinking Luiz, Azpi and Kante each have some attacking threat. Kante is benchable in GW29-30, so I'm not wasting too much money on premium assets I don't want for my strategy to work. Plus I get to keep those juice Manchester attackers along with Son (besides one of them) all the way to the DGW. I'm hoping Azpi will link up with Higuain's head as he seemed to be doing with Morata's a year and a half ago.

Solanke could be the biggest issue with the plan (besides it being too early to know the fixtures of course!), but luckily he's just a small issue, and I'll monitor him.

      Hello mate,
After reading the Jarvish's post, my first reaction was that playing FH in that dgw 32 is less appealing compared to BB
      Brilliant fixtures.

But since I haven't got TC chip to use i have decided to use FH in gw32 & BB in 35.

So, the point is you should also consider playing BB in that gw ( biggest one & has some great fixtures for popular cheap player's )

Hmmm. It would take 3 hits to get a bench with double fixtures, then 4 hits to get players back in for GW33 (incl GK).

Looks reasonable, and you seem to have enough flexibility to adjust as you go. Keeping hold of the United assets for as along as possible is savvy IMO. Aguero TC in GW32 could be dynamite.

Guessing the reason for FH31 is due to lack of preparedness in your current squad?

I'm looking to prep what I already have for GW31/33 - posted above and would appreciate any input!

Cheers. You could say that. Or you could say the opposite. I was already tentatively planning to FH in 31 and made transfers accordingly over the past month. So I've been trying desperately to find a way to make it work, so I don't concede any ground. I could switch, but it would mean selling the integral players in my squad for players I don't want, starting as early as this week. Just trying to gain an advantage, but could easily backfire.

        I'll take a look

I am leaning towards FH 31 because I have 8 probable dgw players for gw 32 already and might not be able to afford them for a free hit in 32 if transfer out before then, the likes of pogba, rashord, doherty.

What do we expect to happen in this United/Liverpool game? So many players tied up in it. United are the form team and at home. Liverpool don’t look great to be honest. Salah doesn’t usually do well in these types of games.

I'm like you don't fancy sal to do well I think it will be a 1-0 or 1-1 type of game

I fully expect Man Utd to score, and probably win. Being at home, against their biggest rivals (who are back on top for the first time in a while) and back in form...

Put it this way, a Utd win would not surprise me. A Liverpool win would.

I actually feel both sides will score. An end to end type of game. A 2-2 score draw is what comes to mind

My own expectation, like a few people, is a very tight game and low scoring. I don’t think a captain option in this game is a good shout. Hard to tell what happens though

I think Pogba will do well. He enjoys these kind of games. I will be surprised if Liverpool win.

I have 5 players for gw 31 including 2 bench fodder huddersfield players.

I have all chips and wildcard available.

I am leaning towards building towards dg32 and FH 31. I have 8 probable dgw players for gw 32 already and might not be able to afford them for a free hit in 32 if transfer out before then, the likes of pogba, rashord, doherty, aub.

Anyone else in a similar scenario?

Can be good plan, but don't agree with "might not be able to afford them in FH in gw 32".
The beauty of that chip is you can pour every ounce of your TV in your first 11, can get 3.8-4.2m bench players.

How many players for 33? I have no Leicester players atm. They have some ok fixtures. Do I want to load up for 31 for away game to Burnley? Not really. 3 Liverpool yes. Couple from Bournemouth West Ham Chelsea maybe. It's not an attractive fixture list

I have Sterling since 24 and Aguero longer yet not much value tied up. If sold both now would cost me 0.1m to buy back. Could easy swap for any two combo

Looks fine, lots of pool and utd but same as most I suppose. Hard call whether to bench or play TAA. Going Son C too.

    Some advice here please.
Is it worth taking a hit to replace Martial. No bench as it stands and would bench TAA for a suitable Martial replacement
Max budget is 7.5 for replacement as I want cash for Laca to Kun next week.
Also preference is to bring in a player with a game in 31 but finding it hard to find the answer. Much cheaper than 7.5 works fine too.

    Fab

    Robertson TAA Trippier Kola

    Fanderson Salah Son

    Rashford Laca Jimenez

    Boruc Martial Luiz Stephens

    A. No hit
    B. Martial to Noble / Fraser- free up some cash
    C. Martial to other suggestions?

Next week is probably Laca to Kun anyway and Martial still needs to be got rid of. So it is better to replace Martial and take the hit now and bench TAA this week?

Don't take a hit for a bench player. He's supposed to be a chance to play then it's Palace next week

Oh did not know Martial might play I thought he was out for a few weeks. Thanks.
But with no bench ( if Martial out) players like Trippier are scary as could be benched any time then I am down to 10 🙁

Probably hold 2FT and get Haz and Hugain in for 31 and hope they play well for 1 GW. Would now get them before then. I have Luiz already so he stay as anyone with a 31 game stays.

Because they play fulham, wolves, everton, Cardiff, Brighton(possibly) etc etc
