We’re at the halfway point in our team news summaries for Gameweek 28, after ten Premier League press conferences were held on Monday.

The other ten are scheduled for either this morning or early afternoon, ahead of the Fantasy Premier League deadline at 18:45 this evening.

Things We’ve Learned

All of the “big six” managers will hold their pressers later today, so the information we have gathered so far may not quite pack the same punch as the injury news to follow at – for example – Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City.

Ben Chilwell (knock) has been declared fully fit by interim Leicester City boss Mike Stowell ahead of the Foxes’ clash with Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday night, with only long-term injury victims Marc Albrighton (hamstring) and Daniel Amartey (leg) unavailable for Gameweek 28.

There’ll be a great deal of interest in how Leicester’s Fantasy assets fare in their first match following Claude Puel’s departure, though Stowell suggested he wouldn’t be making wholesale changes when he leads the team out at the King Power Stadium:

Literally, we’ve had one training session with them because yesterday was a recovery day. We will tweak a few things here and there, but they’re not playing poorly, by the way.

Chris Hughton will make late checks on Glenn Murray (knock), Lewis Dunk (knock) and Jurgen Locadia (ankle), meanwhile, though Solly March (ankle) has been passed fit to play.

Leon Balogun (knock) remains out.

The Brighton boss said:

Balogun would be the only one that’s definitely not available. Glenn [was] introduced to training only the last day, Lewis Dunk as well, Izquierdo is back training. Solly’s trained the last few days, he’s fine. Jurgen’s trained only yesterday.

There was nothing new to report on Tyneside ahead of Newcastle v Burnley, with Rafael Benitez only without Rob Elliot (back) and Ciaran Clark (knock) for Tuesday’s match.

Sean Dyche added that the Clarets had come through their win over Spurs unscathed, so Steven Defour (calf), Aaron Lennon (knee) and Jon Walters (Achilles) remain his only absentees.

Nuno Espirito Santo also has a fully-fit squad to choose from, though his opposite number on Tuesday evening, Jan Siewert, reported a number of issues in his press conference.

The Huddersfield boss said:

Diakhaby’s still not available, unfortunately. I think it will take time. Isaac Mbenza is still injured and Danny Williams, of course. We have some small problems, but not as serious as those three.

Siewert said that he hoped Erik Durm (hip) will return, while Alex Pritchard is available after minor back problems.

Winston Reid (knee) and Fabian Balbuena (knee) have returned to training at West Ham United after their injury lay-offs but Manuel Pellegrini said on Monday that the pair had only participated in “part of the session” so they would appear unlikely to feature against Manchester City on Wednesday.

The Hammers’ boss also said that the club were being “careful” with Manuel Lanzini after the Argentinean’s recent comeback:

We must be careful with him. I think that he played 15 minutes [v Fulham] and he did very well. We will see which is the best way to give him more minutes in every game.

Kiko Femenia (hamstring) and Jose Holebas (suspended) are Watford’s only confirmed absentees for the trip to Anfield, though Javi Gracia said the former is closing in on a return:

In this moment we only have Kiko Femenia injured. He is training and today he trained with the team but he is not fit. He needs more time to stay in the best condition, but he’s the only player not available for the next game.

After a 17-day break, Everton are back in action this evening.

The Toffees are almost at full strength, with Marco Silva only having Yerry Mina (foot) to worry about from an injury point of view – though Kurt Zouma misses out through suspension.

Silva said:

Jags [Jagielka] is OK, working with the team since the break started. Leighton [Baines] also. Mina in doubt, worked last two days and will be in doubt until tomorrow. Let’s see after one more session.

The Toffees travel to Wales to play Cardiff on Tuesday evening, with Neil Warnock reporting that “one or two lads” had fallen victim to the same bug that caused Lee Peltier – who remains a minor doubt for Gameweek 28 – to miss the defeat to Watford on Friday.

Warnock also had plenty to say on Victor Camarasa (calf):

Victor’s training now so I don’t know really know about him. He’s looking on song, back to normal.

We think he’s closer to fitness than what his guys think, but then obviously you run the risk if you make him play and he breaks down, what are they going to say?

He obviously listens to his physios, medical people and Tom, Dick and Harry from abroad. I thought he was fit ten days ago, so they’ve said they don’t want him playing for ten days. So ten days is up today, I think.

MANAGERS YET TO DELIVER A PRESS CONFERENCE

Unai Emery (Arsenal)
Eddie Howe (Bournemouth)
Maurizio Sarri (Chelsea)
Roy Hodgson (Crystal Palace)
Claudio Ranieri (Fulham)
Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool)
Pep Guardiola (Manchester City)
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (Manchester United)
Ralph Hasenhuttl (Southampton)
Mauricio Pochettino (Spurs)

INJURY NEWS THAT MAY BE UPDATED ON TUESDAY

  • Arsenal have doubts over Alex Iwobi (knock), Ainsley Maitland-Niles (illness) and Stephan Lichtsteiner (back).
  • Callum Wilson (knee) and David Brooks (ankle) are thought to be medium-term absentees for Bournemouth and are not currently scheduled to return till March.
  • Aaron Wan-Bissaka (hamstring) missed out on the win over Leicester City on Saturday, though no timeframe was put on the Palace right-back’s return.
  • Andre Schurrle missed Fulham’s defeat to West Ham United through illness.
  • Roberto Firmino (ankle) was seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches after sustaining an injury in the 0-0 draw with Manchester United on Sunday. Jurgen Klopp said he had “no clue” about the severity of the problem after full-time of that match.
  • Gabriel Jesus (hamstring), John Stones (groin) and Benjamin Mendy (knee) missed the EFL Cup final but Pep Guardiola said all three were “getting better” in a previous press conference on Friday. Aymeric Laporte and Fernandinho, who picked up muscle injuries on Sunday, are set to be out for “some weeks”, according to their manager.
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Sunday that he would be “maybe surprised” if Marcus Rashford (ankle) was fit to face Crystal Palace in midweek. Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard all fell victim to hamstring injuries against Liverpool, while Anthony Martial (groin) wasn’t quite ready to feature.
  • Danny Ings (hamstring) is a major doubt for Southampton’s six-pointer against Fulham, while Michael Obafemi appeared to suffer a recurrence of his own hamstring problem in the defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.
  • Mauricio Pochettino said last Thursday that Dele Alli (hamstring) was “maybe one week, maybe ten days, maybe two weeks” away from a playing return.

Predicted line-ups and in-depth team news on the ten teams who have held press conferences already can be found here.

Cold feet on Barnes. Feels like dead ending my team.

Yeah his stats are amazing.. but he’s got an awful scoring record over his career and is almost 30

    Convince me otherwise 😉

I always had the impression he was a bit of a crazy guy. Swear my Brighton friend used to tell me he had about as much as scoring as getting sent off.

Maybe he chilled out, or maybe I am confused with someone else.

How are his fixtures good? New away and Liv away are as close to bad as they get.

Or are you saying just having a game in 31,33 means "good"?

      Absolutely THIS.

Barnes will not continue this form, such a dead end move.

Vardy the way forward if you have the cash.

It's really not a dead end move. For 5.7 you don't expect him to continue scoring a goal a game, but he'll still offer value playing in a Burnley side who's non penalty xG since the turn of the year is really good. Interested to hear your thoughts on why Vardy is the way forward?

it's whether you think he will continue his run.

Players like Barnes go through purple patches, will it continue probably not but when will it end is the question.

"Rash(ford) we're still waiting to see how his ankle is responding to the treatment, muscle injuries are too early to think about. That's it."

not sure why this cant mean he is ruled out.
Firstly, what does the second part of that sentence mean? muscle injuries are too early to think about. maybe that means its too early to think about a return date.
secondly, he says were waiting to see how his ankle responds to treatment. that means there is an issue with his ankle that needs treatment and its unknown whether it will get better or not.
i think a combination of the first and second part of that comment pretty much rules rashy out.

“As for Rashy [Marcus Rashford], we're going to work on him for as long as we can to see if he gets ready because that wasn't as bad as we first feared, so luckily I don't think we damaged it any more by him finishing the game. He might have a chance of playing.”

I'd be very surprised to see him involved on Wednesday.

I assume that he's referring to swelling around the ankle, and until that goes down they don't know the full extent of the injury, I assume the only reason he's not ruled out is that he continued to play through the injury on Sunday.

Because that isn’t what being ruled out means.

There’s every chance he doesn’t play but without an unequivocal statement to say he won’t play, he has not been ruled out.

Took him out last night because I can't be arsed with the uncertainty. He won't be 100% either way, will keep dropping in price in the meantime, and has a blank in 31. I'd rather get rid now & avoid the headache, will have him back cheaper for my FH team in 32.

Even if he's ruled out for Palace selling him is crazy imo - look at his fixtures, look at his form, look at his price tag...

I really don't get the sales of him & Son, i must be missing something

I think I agree with you for those who bought him for less than 7m - dumping all that value when he may be out for 1 or 2 is silly.

I haven't had him for long and only lost 0.2m. I am building for GW31 and will FH in 32 then WC in 34 anyway so I'm not so worried.

But depending on chip strategy it does make sense.
Let's assume he's out of the game in midweek.

          GW28 - out injured
          GW29 - 50/50
          GW30 - Arsenal away
          GW31 - Blank
          GW32 - FH Team
          GW33 - Blank
          GW34 - WC Team

So it's not crazy to sell him now really.

I just can't bring myself to bring in Barnes, stats look great, but I'm an eye test manager, and every time I've watched him (v Spurs, and Brighton recently) his footballing abilities are questionable.

I hear what you’re saying and don’t disagree. Tbh it was an FT and leaves me with a good amount itb so if he looks pants next game or 2 I will just dump him. The fact he had opportunity to return all through the blanks helped as well.

I was looking at Rashford to Rondon, purely because of price changes...and Rondon works through the blanks.
But I gambled on waiting for the press conference today, and doesn't sound good to me.
Happy to roll my FT into next week, Anderson off the bench for me.

              Except 28, and 29.
I can get him in my FH team easily for the double.

His SV to me is 7.3m after his drop last night, I'm guessing by GW34 he'll be down to 7.5m at most.

Seems crazy to me - Admittedly there is an injury doubt hanging over him, but he played 90 mins with the injury on Sunday so it can be managed albeit it resticts him somewhat - so we have a great player with great fixtures in 28, 29, 30, who is being heavily sold...

It's obviously team dependent so if you cannot afford to bench him 31 & 33 that's a problem...

But i find it a stretch that there are teams whose best use of a precious FT is to transfer OUT a player like Rashford before three good fixtures and that there isn't a better move they can make for their team

You can play through a new injury sometimes. But then the next day happens, and you can't get out of bed for a week.

Yep absolutely, but the fact that he stayed on the pitch for 90 mins suggests its manageable. All he needs is even 10 mins from the bench to nick a return v palace, and even if he misses out completely, he has two nice fixtures after that before the blanks

Using a FT to sell him just seems like shooting yourself in the foot, then loading the gun, then pointing it at your foot, and pulling the trigger again

OGS said the only reason he continued to play on Sunday was because he had no subs left, and you could see he wasn't right at all.

For me I planned to either bench Jimenez, or Rashford through the blank in 31, Jimenez probably edges Rashford for fixtures over the next 3, especially if you assume, as I do, that he won't play tomorrow night.

He definitely didn't look 100% on Sunday, but equally he didn't look 100% injured either - if the injury was severe enough to force him off the pitch it would be a different scenario, but playing 90 with the injury - even making the bench against palace seems a more realistic outcome than omitted entirely from an already injury hit squad

You would have to think he's given every chance for Palace, and even more chance for the nice Southampton & Arsenal fixtures - just doesn't seem like a priority use of a FT

If you plan to FH in GW32, his fixtures are pretty rubbish until GW34 (WC for lots of people).

I think this is probably what I'm missing the mindset that his fixtures are rubbish - I actually think southampton home is a great fixture, Arsenal away is a good fixture, wolves away is a good fixture, West Ham home is a good fixture... Everton away doesn't scare anyone... really don't get it, i must be blind!

Totally get the FH & WC timing piece

I just think it's odd that a popular move for the majority seems to be selling a great player who is not confirmed out for three great fixtures, who for the majority will then need to be brought back in at a higher price than what he was sold at - we all have benches that can hold three players, to me this is worst case a bench scenario rather than worst case burning a FT scenario

I think it's safe to say the injury is what has triggered the majority of the transfers out, coupled with the upcoming blanks, and peoples chip strategy.

I think the ''injury'' is definitely what has triggered the sales - but when we look at the fact pattern, we have no definitive confirmation that he is out for palace, we have utd with injuries to other forwards, so Rashford will be given every chance to start or make the bench for palace... we have 2 great fixtures following that... we have a finite number of FT's...

It's all team dependent as I say, but it's very hard to reconcile use of a FT with transferring out a player like Rashford, with his form & fixtures in the abscence of any confirmed injury news, and when he has just completed 90 minutes on the pitch with the same injury

It's not the same injury though. We already established that the injury an be a completely different beast the following day. As for the "fact pattern", I mean... I have no idea what you're saying. But injuries to other players don't increase his chance of starting. In fact, probably the opposite, as they can't afford to extend the length of Rashford's recovery.

But we have already established that injuries are often not black and white? There are lots of 'grey' areas. The facts are that (a) the last we saw of Rashford he played 90 mins with his injury and (b) OGS has not defintitively ruled him out

In a scenario where Martial & Lingard are fully fit for example - that gives OGS more flexibility when making a decision on a Rashford who may/may not be 110% fit, but who is probably fit enough for 30, 45, 60, 75 mins

There are many scenarios where injuries to other players increase partially fit players chances of starting

Okay, but he might only play 1 match in the next 5 that people are owning him for. Rashfrod isn't a prime option for people's FH32 strategy's, so using a FT to get someone who is, e.g. Barnes, is not a problem. In fact it's super convenient. And they'll get 5/5 fixtures from him if they want them.

They'll also only lose 0.0-0.4 on Rashford, while spending up to 0.4 extra on their team in the meantime before buying him back (which they also have the option NOT to do, unlike those of us who are in some way committing to own him in GW35)

I think it's the convenience factor that may be blindsiding some folks for sure - but if you had already planned your FH32 strategy, it would have involved targeting having 9+ players for GW31 & GW33...

Rashford's ''injury'' may look like a convenient opportunity to pop an Ashley Barnes or a Salmon Rondon in for those games (both players in good form with decent-ish fixtures) to get an extra player for those two GW's

But Rashford has the ability and the fixtures to make that look a very dubious move in even one of GW28/29/30 - especially when hits are involved

Barnes for example is in super form, and is puting up quite frankly ridiculous stats but has newcastle away, palace home, liverpool away... while Rashford has his three fixtures

Again, people are thinking about the 5-fixture block, not just the next 3. But even over 3, I think Barnes is likely to match Rashford. Rashford owners will be lucky to see him play big minutes against Southampton with a must-win against PSG midweek, especially if still recovering. It's not exactly blindsiding, and most people probably haven't planned specific transfers for their chip strategies, or are in any case adaptable.

I think it's a stretch to see PSG being a factor, personally i'd imagine if (in a hypothetical fitness scenario) OGS was constrained and had to choose one game for Rashford - PL or CL - he'd choose Southampton every time... there are no expectations or implications of utd not winning the champions league whereas there are massive expectations & implications of not finishing in the top four...

The convenience factor could be blindsiding in the sense that people are not giving any weight to his 90 minutes with the injury on Sunday, and instead are assuming he definitely can't play any more minutes in GW28, and will have no or very limited minutes in 29, and possibly very limited minutes in 30.

All of which could all be very good predictions by the way... but we do know that he played 90 minutes with his injury on Sunday... and we do know that his manager has not definitively ruled him out... and we do know that he has 3 great fixtures coming up... and we do know that he is a great player.... and we do know that he will cost more (potentially a lot more for most) to buy back... and we do know that we have a finite number of FT's... to me that factors against selling him far outweigh the factors for selling in the majority of cases

He won't cost a lot more to buy back. If you sell for a profit, you buy back with the profit plus the difference. Plus you enjoy the profit in the meantime, while Rashford potentially drops more to reduce the difference (from absolute max. 0.5 to more likely closer to 0.0 for most sellers).

It depends on buying & selling prices, he had >1.0m owners at 7.1m, for those folks, selling at a 7.8m would have realised 7.4m yielding 0.3m profit - but buying back at 7.7m would then cost an additional 0.3m over retaining him, buying back at 7.6m would cost an additional 0.2m and so on and so on.

It gets worse for those who bought for a lower price, and better for those who bought at a higher price etc. But it throws yet another ''if'' into the equation - ''if'' his price keeps dropping.

Nicking one attacking return v Palace & his price is not going to be falling, start v southampton & his price is not going to be falling... and this is a fantastic player who will be given every chance to get minutes in what are three very good fixtures...

Thought Mane was really poor against United and I fancy Spurs v Arsenal at the weekend to be a goal fest. Plus there's Chelsea having played extra time and possibly not 100% interested in playing for the manager so Son's fixtures aren't as bad as people think. It's best to have 2 ft going into gw31 if you can.

Laporte as he is confirmed out the longest and of high value. AWB you can leave on the bench easily enough and Rashford could yet make wednesday's match

So from Ole's comments, 3 at the back all but confirmed? Mentioned that Bailly, Lindelof and Smalling, they are ready.
So assuming thatvis the case. Shaw+Young/Dalot get wing back roles?
    Excited Shaw owner here.
