We’re at the halfway point in our team news summaries for Gameweek 28, after ten Premier League press conferences were held on Monday.

The other ten are scheduled for either this morning or early afternoon, ahead of the Fantasy Premier League deadline at 18:45 this evening.

Things We’ve Learned

All of the “big six” managers will hold their pressers later today, so the information we have gathered so far may not quite pack the same punch as the injury news to follow at – for example – Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City.

Ben Chilwell (knock) has been declared fully fit by interim Leicester City boss Mike Stowell ahead of the Foxes’ clash with Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday night, with only long-term injury victims Marc Albrighton (hamstring) and Daniel Amartey (leg) unavailable for Gameweek 28.

There’ll be a great deal of interest in how Leicester’s Fantasy assets fare in their first match following Claude Puel’s departure, though Stowell suggested he wouldn’t be making wholesale changes when he leads the team out at the King Power Stadium:

Literally, we’ve had one training session with them because yesterday was a recovery day. We will tweak a few things here and there, but they’re not playing poorly, by the way.

Chris Hughton will make late checks on Glenn Murray (knock), Lewis Dunk (knock) and Jurgen Locadia (ankle), meanwhile, though Solly March (ankle) has been passed fit to play.

Leon Balogun (knock) remains out.

The Brighton boss said:

Balogun would be the only one that’s definitely not available. Glenn [was] introduced to training only the last day, Lewis Dunk as well, Izquierdo is back training. Solly’s trained the last few days, he’s fine. Jurgen’s trained only yesterday.

There was nothing new to report on Tyneside ahead of Newcastle v Burnley, with Rafael Benitez only without Rob Elliot (back) and Ciaran Clark (knock) for Tuesday’s match.

Sean Dyche added that the Clarets had come through their win over Spurs unscathed, so Steven Defour (calf), Aaron Lennon (knee) and Jon Walters (Achilles) remain his only absentees.

Nuno Espirito Santo also has a fully-fit squad to choose from, though his opposite number on Tuesday evening, Jan Siewert, reported a number of issues in his press conference.

The Huddersfield boss said:

Diakhaby’s still not available, unfortunately. I think it will take time. Isaac Mbenza is still injured and Danny Williams, of course. We have some small problems, but not as serious as those three.

Siewert said that he hoped Erik Durm (hip) will return, while Alex Pritchard is available after minor back problems.

Winston Reid (knee) and Fabian Balbuena (knee) have returned to training at West Ham United after their injury lay-offs but Manuel Pellegrini said on Monday that the pair had only participated in “part of the session” so they would appear unlikely to feature against Manchester City on Wednesday.

The Hammers’ boss also said that the club were being “careful” with Manuel Lanzini after the Argentinean’s recent comeback:

We must be careful with him. I think that he played 15 minutes [v Fulham] and he did very well. We will see which is the best way to give him more minutes in every game.

Kiko Femenia (hamstring) and Jose Holebas (suspended) are Watford’s only confirmed absentees for the trip to Anfield, though Javi Gracia said the former is closing in on a return:

In this moment we only have Kiko Femenia injured. He is training and today he trained with the team but he is not fit. He needs more time to stay in the best condition, but he’s the only player not available for the next game.

After a 17-day break, Everton are back in action this evening.

The Toffees are almost at full strength, with Marco Silva only having Yerry Mina (foot) to worry about from an injury point of view – though Kurt Zouma misses out through suspension.

Silva said:

Jags [Jagielka] is OK, working with the team since the break started. Leighton [Baines] also. Mina in doubt, worked last two days and will be in doubt until tomorrow. Let’s see after one more session.

The Toffees travel to Wales to play Cardiff on Tuesday evening, with Neil Warnock reporting that “one or two lads” had fallen victim to the same bug that caused Lee Peltier – who remains a minor doubt for Gameweek 28 – to miss the defeat to Watford on Friday.

Warnock also had plenty to say on Victor Camarasa (calf):

Victor’s training now so I don’t know really know about him. He’s looking on song, back to normal.

We think he’s closer to fitness than what his guys think, but then obviously you run the risk if you make him play and he breaks down, what are they going to say?

He obviously listens to his physios, medical people and Tom, Dick and Harry from abroad. I thought he was fit ten days ago, so they’ve said they don’t want him playing for ten days. So ten days is up today, I think.

MANAGERS YET TO DELIVER A PRESS CONFERENCE

Unai Emery (Arsenal)
Eddie Howe (Bournemouth)
Maurizio Sarri (Chelsea)
Roy Hodgson (Crystal Palace)
Claudio Ranieri (Fulham)
Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool)
Pep Guardiola (Manchester City)
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (Manchester United)
Ralph Hasenhuttl (Southampton)
Mauricio Pochettino (Spurs)

INJURY NEWS THAT MAY BE UPDATED ON TUESDAY

  • Arsenal have doubts over Alex Iwobi (knock), Ainsley Maitland-Niles (illness) and Stephan Lichtsteiner (back).
  • Callum Wilson (knee) and David Brooks (ankle) are thought to be medium-term absentees for Bournemouth and are not currently scheduled to return till March.
  • Aaron Wan-Bissaka (hamstring) missed out on the win over Leicester City on Saturday, though no timeframe was put on the Palace right-back’s return.
  • Andre Schurrle missed Fulham’s defeat to West Ham United through illness.
  • Roberto Firmino (ankle) was seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches after sustaining an injury in the 0-0 draw with Manchester United on Sunday. Jurgen Klopp said he had “no clue” about the severity of the problem after full-time of that match.
  • Gabriel Jesus (hamstring), John Stones (groin) and Benjamin Mendy (knee) missed the EFL Cup final but Pep Guardiola said all three were “getting better” in a previous press conference on Friday. Aymeric Laporte and Fernandinho, who picked up muscle injuries on Sunday, are set to be out for “some weeks”, according to their manager.
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Sunday that he would be “maybe surprised” if Marcus Rashford (ankle) was fit to face Crystal Palace in midweek. Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard all fell victim to hamstring injuries against Liverpool, while Anthony Martial (groin) wasn’t quite ready to feature.
  • Danny Ings (hamstring) is a major doubt for Southampton’s six-pointer against Fulham, while Michael Obafemi appeared to suffer a recurrence of his own hamstring problem in the defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.
  • Mauricio Pochettino said last Thursday that Dele Alli (hamstring) was “maybe one week, maybe ten days, maybe two weeks” away from a playing return.

Predicted line-ups and in-depth team news on the ten teams who have held press conferences already can be found here.

David Luiz. Sound mental but I'd go for it as you already have 2 Liv and probably don't want to drop to a budget defender. Added bonus is Luiz has fixtures in both GW31 and GW33. If you're thinking of going budget, go for a WHU defender (Huddersfield at home in 31)

Morning all, so I see many people talking about FH GW32 but not 31 but surely many already own UTD and Wolves assets? or am I missing something, are there other teams to potentially add to the GW??… cheers

They're building to 31 (and therefore 33, the other blank) and free hitting on the double in 32.

I think many feel GW31 will be quite low scoring, and would be happy to field 9/10 players - covering the highly owned players such as Salah and Robertson.
The potential of having 11 double game week players with a FH in 32 is very tempting.

Yeah but poor teams playing poor teams can produce points. How do we get 11 double gameweek players for GW32. I haven't been keeping up to date of late, are there other teams to add to the GW?

          General consensus suggests so.
          It'll depend on the cup results, but I think it's expected that;

          Che v Bri
          Man C v Car
          Tot v Pal
          Wat v Sou

Will all fall into 32, unfortunately we won't know until after GW31 though.

Wolves assets difficult and maybe Pogba because a lot of cash tied up in them for many owners.
can see myself going into 31 with 10 starters and Pogba, Doherty and Jimenez on the bench as there's the double in 32.
Think many looking at FH 2nd BGW (cup semis) as possibly 4 games will be off.

Seriously though - Leicester are a richer club, playing in a much better league.

On the other hand, celtic have many more fans, and a much bigger global following, as well as European football every season.

I'm trying to decide where I think Celtic would finish in the PL, it felt harsh saying they'd be relegation candidates, but then really which Celtic players would get into a PL team outside the bottom three?

They would be relegation candidates if they had the same squad and finance as now. But if they got the premier league tv money for a couple of years, they would be in the big 6/7.

        2. SADIO SANÉ
          • 10 Years

as they are probably 15th/16th but they'd have potential to be a top 8 team if they had PL funds imo

It isn't necessarily where they would finish in the first year but over a period of 5-10 years that I think would be relevant. They would have enough to avoid relegation, they are better than a Huddersfield or Cardiff for example.

If they survive the first season then the TV money combined with the fan base / stadium revenue would mean that they would comfortably be a top half side. I think they would challenge for a Europa League place within a couple of years. They could maybe push for a CL place in time but there is a hell of a glass ceiling with 6 clubs already competing for 4 places.

Good point, what happened to Scottish football, Celtic and Rangers used to put up a decent showing in Europe.
Did Rangers demise just allow Celtic to go into cruise control domestically, and fall away in Europe.

The winners of the Scottish league get about 2 million tv money. Bottom of the premier league gets about 60 million.

Well Celtic are a bigger club than Leicester, so I can see that argument, but the Premier League is the place to be, raise his reputation and test himself against the best. I doubt he'd be considered for a job at a top 6 club and Leicester have one of the best squads outside of those sides so it makes sense.

A step up... only thing you'll ever get at Celtic these days is an easy title win (even if Rangers get better, the other fixtures aren't motivating)

Leicester looks like a great project to turn the club into a top 6 club over the next decade - plenty of money there to be spent and with the right manager, could turn into a very good club.

Not in terms of size of the club. It's a massive step in terms of accolade and competition.

Celtic wouldn't finish top 10 in PL imo.

Celtic would be top 6 . 60k stadium , attendances of over 50K week in week out . Would take a few seasons to accumulate the tv money , teams like Huddersfield getting 125 million last season. The whole SPL get 30 million total !

Stadiums don't put you into the top 6. A good manager and good players do.

Step down . Celtic are renowed worldwide , steeped in history , European football year in year out . Champions League winners.. Must win every game . Massive games against rangers .
      Leicester won the PL once.

celtic bigger club than Leicester but PL obviously bigger league.
Technically leicester a richer club than Celtic but that's also league-relevant as well.
Also probably a big bigger pay cheque as well.

PL > CL knock out stages or even group stages when you loose 7-0 7-1 to teams like Barca, PSG

    Ederson
    Robertson / TAA / Doherty / Pereira / Digne
    Salah / Pogba / Maddison
    Jimenez / Barnes

    Fabianski // Son / Rashford / Camarasa

Biggest benching headache ever, and that before I potentially transfer Rashford, too.

Who should I bench? Feels wrong to bench Digne as he's a handy differential, although Everton defence from big Sol Bamba set pieces...

Despite Everton probably failing to keep a clean sheet, also need to think about Digne possibly scoring a goal/assist from a free kick against an equally poor Cardiff defence. I'd stick with the current bench you have (or maybe Son in for Trent)

Do people think Rondon did well this week because it’s Huddersfield of have Newcastle turned a corner ?
Looking to prepare for the next few weeks and into GW31
Can’t see Rashford playing next 2
    Rashford to Rondon ? Thoughts?

I think it depends on how much you bought Rashford for and how much this will cost you if you want to bring him back in. If you want to bring him back in and his price has gone up £0.6m or more since you bought him, hold him

Last week, there were 4 players who did not contribute positively to the OR unless you captained one of them (Salah, Pogba, Rashford, Son) and it is the most boring part of the game for me.
It will be more fun this week as Rashford owners going different directions with Rondon, Barnes Kun, Vardy etc. and Son EO will possibly decrease to around %50 from %113. On the other hand, Jimenez will join to the team of "non-contributers" but at least we will play with 8 instead of 7.

Agreed. Everyone's teams look virtually identikit at this point in the season. Can't wait for Blank 31, DGW 31 and Blank 33 though. That's when the players will come out and shake things up

Looking at a 4.2m defender to fund Sterling (if positive comments from Pep). I want to get into WHU's back line, not for this week but the coming 3/4 GW (before FH and then WC). Looking at Ogbonna or Balbuena - the former is first choice now, but it is sensible to go with the latter over the next 3 weeks? Anyone with WHU insight, would appreciate your comments. Thanks!

I know we have to take the guidance with a pinch of salt but the RMT tool is telling me to bench Son and Barnes and play JWP and Pereira instead..... hmmmm

    1.6itb
    Fab
    Robbo, TAA, Doherty
    Salah (C), Pogba, Son, Jota
    Kun, Jimi, Barnes
    (Hamer) (Pereira, JWP, Luiz)

I thought I was ok with bench but now the tool is making me doubt my choices! G2G?

I'm convinced Rashford will play tomorrow after Ole saying 'It's not as bad as first feared' and considering we don't have much option but to play him considering all the other injuries.

Don't think he will get much at Palace away though. Solid defence and Utd don't have any first choice attackers. Can see it being a 0-0 or a 1-1. Defo keeping for Soton game and crossing my fingers he's not ruled out for longer!

He'll play IMO - who else have they got in the attacking positions? Lukaku, Alexis... ? Chong will be on the bench. Palace will be a tough game but Watford scored twice there recently.

He played 90 mins with the injury on Sunday so it's something that can be managed, albeit it restricts him somewhat

        Captain Auba over Salah imo

Liverpool playing a crack Watford side, well managed by Gracia & with no Firmino & no goal in last 180 mins of football

Arsenal home to possibly the worst away defence in the league (only fulham have conceded more - even changing their GK have still shipped 6 in last 3 games)
