Aaron Wan-Bissaka‘s (£5.5m) price increase in Fantasy Premier League is as eye-catching as the £50m move to Manchester United that followed in late June.

In 2018/19, Wan-Bissaka was the much-heralded budget defensive gem, starting 35 of Crystal Palace’s 38 matches and returning 120 FPL points over the course of the campaign.

Wan-Bissaka – who was priced at £4.0m in Gameweek 1 of last season – was on the pitch for all 12 of the Eagles’ clean sheets, while he racked up 18 bonus points to compensate for a lack of attacking returns (no goals, three assists).

A year is a long time in FPL.

Championed for his value for money (26.1 points per million spent) last season, there has been something of a backlash against his price rise this summer.

Still, that hasn’t stopped over one in three FPL managers from drafting Wan-Bissaka into their initial squads.

Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) and Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) are the only two defenders who are proving more popular in FPL at the time of writing.

As we have said before, that 34.1% ownership can perhaps be explained by a number of factors – a nostalgia for his returns in 2018/19, a move to a ‘big six’ club and a higher rate of so-called casuals playing the game at this stage of the year.

We shouldn’t just ignore those FPL managers who have acquired him, though, as there is much to admire about Wan-Bissaka’s game.

Whether there is enough to warrant a price rise to £5.5m is something we’ll be exploring in the Members’ article below.

    AWB £50 million
    Zaha £80 million

Who in their right mind would have thought Crystal Palace had 2 players of this value.

I know bench is cheap, but would like to know thoughts on this?

    Ryan
    TAA - Robertson - Trippier
    Salah - KDB - Sigurdsson - Moura
    Vardy - King - Deulofeu

    Bench: 3x 4.0 - 4.5

I like the Moura pick for the first couple of GWs. Can really be a bargain for the Villa game.

KDB as the only City coverage feels a bit light imo. Maybe Robbo or TAA to VVD and upgrade Trippier to Walker, I think it would be good.

I am not a big fan of spending much on forwards, but individually all three seem good picks.

      Good team!

      Salah, Sterling, Hazard
      Aguero, Aubameyang, Jimenez

    Burnley GK - 4.0
    TAA - VVD - Laporte - Walker - (Coleman)
    Sterling - Siggy - Zaha - Redmond - (Dendoncker)
    King - Kane - (Greenwood)

Any thoughts on where to upgrade with 1.5-2m instead of having Coleman/Redmond benched?

      Nice

Tbh I’d forget Walker - offers very little apart from expensive cs and upgrade Siggy to KdB . Coleman is a starter.

Like Burnley keeper call - one should be obvs by season start. Zaha only if Palace buy big up front imo.

He created 28 big chances last season. No other player in the league created as many as 20. He's still value at 7.5 based on his assist potential alone. Not a huge goal threat, but not small either

It is doable (probably with 5 at the back, or a couple of 4.0s in a 4 at the back) - but it's not something I'd consider unless/until some real bargains become apparent - AWB/Bennett kind of players, or players moving to bigger clubs, or players who had poor seasons last year.

So if, say, the following was to happen:

      Diop goes to Man Utd
      Maguire goes to City
      Andone becomes Brighton's 1st-choice striker

Then the following could be a decent squad:

      Ryan, (Button)
      TAA, Robbo, Digne, Maguire, Diop
      Salah, Sterling, Fraser, (Dendoncker, Hayden)
      Kane, Andone, (Wickham)

And 50mn for Bissaka when elite cancelo was available for half the price. By looks of this D James seems a spoof signing for 'only' 15mn

Which 5.0 max defenders are you looking at?

    Is Ake a decent pick?

Any option at Arsenal for the first GWs? Maitland Niles will be nailed?

None. Whether you play 3, 4 or 5 at the back 5.5 should be minimum spend on your starters

Yeah, namely this season in particular.

I guess it is just me trying to fit Salah Mane Sterling in the same team, ahah.

It leaves me 9.5 to spend in a mid and defender (both starting).

KDB might have to be the alternative if in fact wanting to go with the TAA Mane Salah squad

Yet another draft, 442 this time.

    Ryan
    Coleman Holebas VVD Trippier
    Salah Bilva FAnderson Siggy
    Aguero Wilson
    Button Norwood 4.5m 4m

    Thoughts?

I would go Wilson to King then Bilva to KDB, personally

I see where you're coming from, but I see King as Wilson's provider and picture Bilva in a more advanced role than KDB this season.

      Yes.

With those opening fixtures, a Bournemouth attacking double up looks good

With all.the tweaks I've played with to balance my squad. The only two players that have not changed since the first draft is Digne and Siggy.

What players do you have in your current draft that haven't left since draft #1?

Some early spread-betting market mid-points for number of PL goals this season (from Spreadex) - i.e. number of expected PL goas this season:

    Salah 23
    Kane 21.5
    Auba 21
    Sterling 16.25
    Vardy 15.25
    Rashford 13.75
    Wilson 10

Also a couple of interesting ones for assists (OPTA assists rather than FPL ones):

    TAA 13.75
    Robbo 11.25
