Fantasy Premier League managers may have a tough decision when considering Wolves’ attacking options in 2018/19.

A price hike for Raúl Jiménez (£7.5m) has put clear daylight between him and colleague Diogo Jota (£6.5m).

Despite the latter’s switch from midfield to the forward department, his offer of a £1.0m saving is certainly enticing.

In this latest members article, requested by readers on site and social media, we will compare Wolves’ two central strikers to assess which is the better option for our Fantasy teams.

As this uses data taken from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for 2019/20 can access the bulk of the article.

Selecting the right period for comparison

Wolves changed their formation to a 3-5-2 in Gameweek 15.

On the surface, it’s hard to look past Jiménez given that he outscored Jota across the 2018/19 season.

The Mexican recorded a final total of 181 points compared his Portuguese colleague’s 139.

That is probably why Jiménez is, by a long way, the more popular of the two following the release of the 2019/20 game.

In fact, currently sat in 42.7% the former Benfica man is the most fashionable asset in any position.

Obviously, his price means that auto-pick selections will still be influencing that figure, and it has dropped slightly from the 43.5% he was at on July 5.

However, to suggest either his 2018/19 score or early 2019/20 popularity are cause to back Jiménez over Jota would be somewhat naïve.

KDB or BILVA? Kev is almost locked in my team, but an extra 1,5m could come in handy as I am without TAA/ROBBO/VVD atm 😮

KDB obviously wins 1 vs 1 due to price.

      Perez... From GW9

"Tough fixtures" doesn't mean we're expecting them to lose. Their squad is good enough to win or draw many of those games

Problem is that we need goals, assists and clean sheets, and those come in higher numbers from games against easier opponents, increasing the chance of your assets getting points. This is why I'm going with Bournemouth assets from GW1 in my future Leicester spots

This is my best shot at fitting in Vardy with Salah and Sterling. Glaring compromises are: no city defence, Coleman instead of Digne, rotating 4.5 defenders. Some compensation is having decent(ish) bench, normal looking squad balance wise and still having nice midfield.

    Ryan, Button
    Roberston, VVD, Coleman, A.Smith, Taylor
    Salah, Sterling, Siggy, Brooks, Dendoncker
    Vardy, King, Wickham

What do you think - is it worth it?

I think your a bit obsessed with having 3 premiums after watching your previous RMT's and comments (Salah, Sterling and Kane). I don't see the value in that. I honestly don't. No 4.5 defender is worth playing week in week out. Downgrading one of the premiums will give you a much much more improved team imho

What is your take on this team?

    Ryan
    TAA Robbo Laporte Digne
    Salah (C) Sterling Siggy Zaha
    King DCL

    Subs: Button Kelly Greenwood Dedoncker

    Thought of doing the following:

    A) Ryan + Laporte + Kelly -> Ederson + 2x rotating 4.5 def
    B) Ryan + Laporte + Zaha + Greenwood --> Ederson + Maguire (if he signs for city) + 4.5 mid + Deeney/Deulofeu

I know DCL is somewhat of a risk. But hopefully a 5.5-6.0 will emerge quickly (monitoring Wesley)

    1. Netley Lucas
      • 11 Years
      7 years, 1 month ago

The good thing about Laporte is you can use him as a bank. Once a City LB emerges you can decide to save or cash-in and then upgrade elsewhere if you want whereas starting with Ederson limits this flexibility somewhat.

      1. FC Hakkebøf
        • 9 Years
        7 years, 1 month ago

One could argue Ederson is a bank as well? Don't see the validation in that argument. Two transfers needed none the less. One to downgrade a City defender/GK and one to upgrade another player.

          • 11 Years
          7 years, 1 month ago

In a sense you're right, but you go from Laporte to the left back in one, the Ederson way takes two. But yes, the upgrading does take another move but that doesn't matter too much as your options increase with the flow of the game, if you see what I mean.

          1. FC Hakkebøf
            • 9 Years
            7 years, 1 month ago

I do! I will go for Laporte and a cheap goallie.

If Mendy / Maguire / Zinchenko emerges then I have 0.5-1.0 to use elsewhere. I mean even DCL might need a 0,5 upgrade. So it's the better strategy at this point until we get further information. Just needed to get my head around it.

Thanks KK. I prefer wingbacks over CB's myself.

I agree Deulo is a better pick than DCL, but for now, DCL stays in the team. If Mendy is a sure starter or if City sign Maguire, then DCL will most likely be the one to upgrade. But DCL got a lot of praise from the manager. So I'm taking a gamble on him.

    Question

Do you think Zaha would be a better prospect at Palace or Arsenal?

If the transfer happens, pretty much everyone will get him, but I feel being the main man suits him. Could be a similar case as Siggy at Spurs or Mahrez at City. I'd expect Zaha to play more than both of them did/have but wouldn't expect him to be as involved as he is for Palace.

Do we understand what the Europa League did to Burnley?

They were a scary side for even the big guns to face in 2017/18, due to how organized they were. Defensive, yes, but organized

They didn't change their system or key players much over the summer. A few additions (don't recall any major exits), but those didn't fit easily into the system

Europa League qualification rounds wrecked them, and they took almost the whole season to recover. But when they did, we saw the old Burnley again. That time when Barnes was a solid under-the-radar pick

With this in mind, Wolves are repeating that with their lack of significant signings so far. Even worse, main man Jimenez hasn't had a summer break

Burnley was SEVENTH two seasons ago, and it wasn't a fluke: they earned it. I really like Wolves and I wish them the best, but who are their rotating squad members in the 3-5-2? Who has the quality to come in and rest some of their main guys to prevent fatigue? Can they remain injury-free when they play Thursday, weekend, Thursday, weekend again every week except international breaks? Even worse, they are good enough to win many qualification matches so this torture will continue for long... Or will they lose matches on purpose and disappoint their cult-like following?

I think Burnley were overachieving for a long time and their results didnt match how poor they were for several seasons. Then the added fatigue from EL came at the same time as regression towards their true level in terms of results. Wolves on the other hand are an actual good team. I think the effect on them from EL will be a lot weaker.

That said, Im still waiting until a few weeks into the season before picking any of their players.

The games v Aberdeen were clearly too much for Burnley, injuries to keepers too I think forcing the disastrous move for Hart. Wolves must learn and really use their squad, they could finish top 6, they must know that?

Same. The 4.5 goalkeeper pick from the get go is a bit random though and requires a bit of luck to make the ''right pick''. Not much between Burnley GK and Brighton GK as I see it. But it free's up a lot of cash and as long as they get some saves they are worth it.

    Fab

I think Fraser is a solid option at 7.5. May also consider Felipe Anderson in that range as well and by week 3 Pulisic and Fornals may be worth thinking about depending on what they do

That’s my thinking if I go this way. By week 3/4 I should have options of switching one or both of them. I’d hope one would hit.

I’m half tempted by Townsend at 6.0 - unexciting but likely to be steady value. If Tielemans comes in at 7 I might go with the two of them

I pretty much agree. If I end up with the choice between them - quite likely - what would probably sway it is that Siggy has a fixed role in the team whereas its perfectly plausible that Bilva will fill in for Dilva as the assister assistant fairly regularly.

If he had scored the 3 penalties he missed, he could have easily hit 200 (5 points per goal, no point reduction for missing, then bonus points)

He's still the designated penalty taker, and this was his first EPL season of missing any... So it's a bit safe to say his missed penalties skewed the data a bit

Getting someone at 8.0 whose team came to life halfway through the season and still managed to merely miss (literally) the 200 point mark feels like an absolute steal... Especially with those fixtures

    Can’t decide here:

    Ederson and Bernardo

    Or

    KDB and Pope/ Gunn

Ederson and Bilva. The keepers in the other option are not good as Burnley's opening fixtures are terrible and Gunn isn't nailed

Think Gunn is as they’re looking to sell their other two keepers. Still neither keeper inspires confidence!

Think Ryan is a wait and see with a new Manager. Problem is I probably wouldn’t captain KDB so maybe I should just get Bernardo

I can’t look past Ryan for my 4.5m keeper atm.

KDB is a good captain option imo, he’s nailed to start, chief creator and good with baps

    A or B?

    A) TAA, Sterling, Zaha
    B) Trippier, Salah B.Silva

    Ederson

    Robbo ______ VVD Digne 4.5m

    ______ ______

    Kane Vardy King

      B. Going for all 3 Liverpool defenders would be a ballsy move. Not sure I would go for Trippier at 5.5

Vardy seems the perfect compromise in the forward market. I think the premiums just completely offset everything. Has anyone managed a team with TAA, Robbo, Digne, Siggy, Salah, Sterling & Vardy in?

      Ryan - Button
      Robo - TAA - Digne - A. Smith - Kelly
      Salah - Sterling - Siggy - Brooks - Deadknock
      Vardy - Deulofailu / King - Greenwood

      Pretty much a 4-4-2.

Not seen Spurs mids mentioned here. Anyone getting Eriksen or Alli from the start?

I almost always start with Eriksen. Scored in GW1 last week aswell. Usually a season keeper.

For some reason I haven't considered him this year due to KDBbeing my only city attacker

Are you sure he scored GW1 last year? I had a great start and remember my only regret was picking eriksen over Mane cost me lots of points. I don’t think Eriksen had any returns in the opening weeks

Just an assist wasn't it for Vertonghen? Header from a corner at Newcastle

Alli is awful, I don’t think either get enough points compared to others

Looking at Kane and Moura at the start , just feel Eriksen and Alli is overpriced and would rather stretch to KDB or just pick Fraser/Siggy instead.

I think Eriksen's situation makes it a little bit complicated. His comments plus the fact that he's on the final year of his contract may make him a bit disinterested

In their traditional line up, Spurs play 4231.

      Kane is the 1

The three will then contain Eriksen, Lamela, Alli, Son, Moura and even Sissoko.

At around 9m, you want your player to be either playing 90mins every week, or one of a team that score shed loads of goals and hope they get enough of the spoils.

I don’t see that with the Spurs big 3 mids.

The 7.5ish mids, people like the certainty of “talismans” like Zaha, Sigurdsson or Gross (2017) or City/Liverpool players due a run due to other player injuries.

      Just my two cents
