Our twice-weekly live streams continue with a community questions special this afternoon.

Joe and Neale will be on air on our YouTube channel from 12:30pm BST but you can also tune in via the embedded video below.

This will be converted into podcast format after the event.

Yesterday we put out a request for questions via a Hot Topic and Twitter and we’ll be addressing some of those topics today.

Giggs Boson asked about Bournemouth assets and we’ll be looking at the Cherries, along with Leicester City players, in our latest mid-price price bracket analysis.

Bambi wondered if 5-3-2 is too inflexible should an early bandwagon emerge and we’ll be sharing our views on that, too.

With the ‘going big in defence’ strategy gathering momentum, two relatively overlooked premium forwards are also discussed.

We’ll be filming another one of these videos on Thursday lunchtime tackling more of the requests that were submitted on our site or on social media.

Keep your requests coming in for topics of debate in the meantime and we’ll get through as many as we can before the season begins.

Further refining of my 4-3-3 alternative. What think you, fine people?

    Ryan/ Heaton
    TAA, VVD, Digne/ Walker, Dunk
    Salah, Sterling, Fraser
    Vardy, King, Giroud
    (4.0) (Hayden, Dendo, Kelly)

Giroud either to keep or placeholder for Haller if 7.0 or less. Dunk could become another 4.5 def if he doesn't go to LEI.

Walker-Peters is an odd one. There were so many opportunities last season for Pochettino to give him a run out, and he still preferred an out of position Foyth. I'd be amazed if they don't make a move for a new RB soon, I'm sure I read Aarons was of interest.

Over the past few years I've made notes through the Seasons of certain rules or advice for myself to follow, I've got 15 of them so far.

One of them that not a lot seem to be following is:

If Aguero is starting and fit, always have him in.

Can understand the thought that he'll rotate more with Jesus but I was thinking that 2 Seasons ago and it still hasn't really happened!

It's not really a Aguero @ City rule, more a Aguero @ City under Pep rule. FPL wise he's near essential for me when fit and starting.

    2. tburgess12

I think the only reason people aren't following that is Raheem Sterling. Same price, better underlying stats, and an extra point for a goal and a clean sheeet.

I do think he's going under the radar on here.

Fixtures aren't an issue IMO, his biggest hauls last season came against Chelsea and Arsenal, and we don't really have any concrete evidence to suggest Jesus will see more PL minutes.

The De Bruyne effect is also important. When playing together last season for over 45 minutes, which didn't happen much, Aguero was explosive. It was something like 9 goals and 3 assists in 7 games, including both of those hat tricks.

      1. Andy_Social
        • 14 Years
        7 years, 1 month ago

I think he played so much last season as Jesus was under par and Pep couldn't afford to drop a point in the race with Liverpool. If Jesus has rediscovered his form, I think Kun will have fewer minutes. That's the only thing that puts me off.

It's a valid point and could happen, but at the same time Jesus could start CL games, we just don't know at this stage.

We don't know, but we do know the likes of Kane and Vardy will play every game. We know Ederson and Laporte will play. The question is will Sterling get more minutes than Kun. Could be wrong, but my guess is yes.

You'd imagine Kane and Vardy will play more minutes, but they're not playing for City, who scored 44 more goals than Leicester last season. It could possibly come down to jumping on Aguero at the right time and trying to take advantage of those hauls, rather than holding him for weeks, but time will tell.

indeed. I will start with Aguero over Sterling...probably own Sterling for longer over the season.
Think KdB's direct style of play will benefit Aguero (and Jesus) as well...more than it will benefit the wingers imo

I've been putting the case. There's a huge Ryan/Button bandwagon where people assume they'll play a Brighton keeper all season. I forecast Potter's defence will be a trainwreck, as his record, suggests, so people will be dumping on mass and moving on to Pope or maybe Gunn or quite possibly both. If you're not first out of the block you're going to have Ryan at 4.4 and Button at 3.9. I think many cheap goalie sorts will want to switch to rotating 4.5s at that point and with the Brighton pair they'll find themselves severely restricted and taking hits.

      1. PogChamp
        • 14 Years

Makes sense. A switch to different rotating pair was the only thing I could think of.

Does his record suggest his defence will be a train wreck tho?

He likes to play an attacking game, but Swansea had the 11th best defence in the Championship last season, which wasn't bad considering there were mass changes when he arrived, and I'm pretty sure he was successful previously in Sweden.

It may well be, but I'm just saying his record doesn't suggest it'll be a train wreck.

They only conceded 5 more goals than Norwich who won the league.

He is the best of the £4m options anyway in terms of skill and chances of starting making him a season keeper if you're a set and forget keeper player (which I am) so it doesn't matter if he drops as he won't be moving from team anyway. If you're not a set and forget keeper player then you wouldn't have a £4m keeper to begin with (probably 2 £4.5m ones) so his price rises/drops are of little concern to you.

Very few seem to be going for Lacazette on here, barely even heard his name mentioned. Those two first fixtures could be great for him, especially if Bruce ends up as Newcastle manager.

Have him in one of my drafts. Fell off him for three reasons.

A - Questions on what system Arsenal will play. With Martinelli signed and Zaha being chased after, how does this fit with the two CF? With a classic Emery front three, and one winger signed and another being heavily linked, who gets yhat central berth? Preseason observance is a must I think before I pick an arsenal striker.

B - the price point. Auba is fine as I can switch to Kane in GW3. Laca, its not too clear, who to switch him out with. Vardy, maybe? 9.5 is such an awkward pricepoint for a premium option, the feasible sideways or dowgrades options are limited.

C - Laca played a decent amount of less mins to Auba.

The problem is Emery not Bruce, if he was nailed he would be a good option but with the random rotation , most would rather just go Vardy or pay extra for Kane/Auba.

This is the thing. I'm tipping Arsenal to have a very poor season and finish 7th, behind Leicester and Everton. He's too expensive for a striker outside the Top 6.

Emery wants his 4231 back. Means laca has to get benched again until he asks to leave in jan then emery tries to play them together again and it makes them play frigidly again

I've always seen Arsenal. As more 4-3-3 then a 4-2-3-1, with the winger playing quite advanced.
Agree, having two class strikers for a manager who prefers a one striker systen is bound to cause friction. Playing Auba on the wing is just plain wrong. With Martinelli signed and potentially Zaha, perhaps finally natural wingers can fill the wings.

    Kepa
    TAA VanDijk Walker* Coleman
    Salah Sigurdsson Moura Tielamans
    Aguero Adams

    Button Dendoncker Greenwood Kelly

    0.0m ITB

Back on premium striker route. With Son suspended, think Moura gets the nod in the XI. Double Liverpool defence seems the most sensible to start the season.

    Thoughts?

Please for the love of God accept that there is a difference between a death cult ideology that dehumanises, segregates and murders people and can only thrive at the expense of other cultures and races, and a poorly-implemented (and increasingly desperate - and yes, of course ultimately murderous - ) vision of what could be achieved when people work together and try to subvert the capitalist structure.

Modern Scandinavian countries are example of where socialism has been applied and, crucially, those countries have never been subjected to crippling economic sanctions by other powers determined to keep the capitalist system going at all costs. Quality of life there is probably the highest in the world.

If we take body counts as being the ultimate determiner of the success or failure of a politico-economic system then capitalism would come out worst, hands down.

He did. It was diabolical, evil, he was one of the worst people in history.

Is that a failure of communism or Stalin?

Does communism and socialism both start from the point of view that the workers should have more control over capital and a greater share of the profits? Of course it does. Norway (in your example)is an example of where certain aspects of this philosophy have been applied well - Soviet Russia is an example of where it was applied appalingly, inexcusably, vilely badly.

All I am saying is that there is nothing wrong with wanting to distribute wealth. To try and claim that I am equating Soviet Russia with modern Norway - that's disgusting.

Thats clearly what you are doing when you are bringing up Scandinavian socialism in a thread criticizing communism though.

Scandinavian socialism doesnt care one iota about workers controlling the capital. It cares only that the state gets enough income through taxes and/or income through national control over resources to provide everyone with a decent basic living standard.

It does if you consider the effort that goes into making the labour maket a collaborative environment between the worker (via trade unions), the state and the employer. I agree that there is, in these systems, very little interest from the state in allowing workers to decide what they produce, what of, and what the terms will be, but there are (working) socialist processes in place which cannot be ignored.

All I am saying, and I think we got off or ended up on the wrong foot here, is that there is a need to make distribution fairer on a societal level. The need for growth and shareholder profit hard-coded into corporate governance is unsustainable, terrible for the environment, and is giving rise to far-right political movements since the base of the pyramid is no longer broad enough to support the bloat at the top.

Ultimately we need to think about how to distribute capital in a fairer way, even (EVEN) if this is to allow capitalism to limp on for another few decades. Saying we can't look into the implementation of some socialist policies because Stalin killed millions of people will hinder this process*.

*and I'm not saying that this is *your* argument, just something that is regurgitated without any critical analysis,

    Thinking back to last season, the three things that hurt me most are;

    1. Keep switching between Salah and Sterling
    2. Not trusting Kun enough
    3. Being late to the double Pool defence party

Perhaps I should address all 3 of these from the off this year. Sterling AND Salah. Double Pool. And Kun! Hmm.

What do you think? What lessons did you learn last year that you might try to rectify this time around?

It's doable, but of course you'd have to rotate someone like Noble and Dendoncker for your fourth midfield spot. That rotation would give you lei, bha, BUR, NOR, avl.

I just put this together, which I quite like...

      Pope
      TAA, Robertson, Zinchenko, O'Connell
      Salah, Sterling, Perez, Dendoncker
      Aguero, Jota

      Button, Noble, Hanley, Greenwood

Even if Gomez or Matip is nailed at 5.5m , yes they will be a better option than any other 5.5m def but it would still be worth it to upgrade them to TAA/Robbo or VVD so not worth a Liverpool slot for me.

Too early to say. If one of the 5.5 nails it. he's golden. But even Lovren is staying as Klopp won't let him go, so guess which of 3 is too much of a risk at this time.

I think Gomez will get the starting position. However in Fantasy terms I'd prefer a double up between TAA VVD and Robbo they offer much more offensively

    a. Walker & Coleman
    b. Zinch & Digne

I know Zinch may be a risk but haven't heard too many people on Walker?

Rumours of Cancelo coming in. Pep doesn't seem to fancy Danilo and is ready to offload him, if the whispers are to be believed.

would love to see Danilo at another PL team though.
But probably will go to Italy if he's sold

More of Aurier I guess. 5m could be good.

Probably means they will sign a new right back. Don't think Aurier can be trusted to play the full season + CL games.

I'm pretty much nailed on with my front 6 now, but still not sure about my back 5:

    Lloris
    Azpi-Coleman-Walker-TAA

Anyone have suggestions on how I can rejig?

Lloris -> Pope/Heaton (the one who seems nailed)
      Coleman -> Digne
      Walker -> Zinchenko
      Azpi -> Robbo

Jay Rodriguez scored his first goals back in a Burnley shirt as the Clarets made the most of two training-ground games against League One opposition.

Rodriguez netted a brace against Accrington Stanley with strike partner Chris Wood bagging a hat-trick to make it four in two games.

And then after the Clarets swapped opposition at half-time, summer signing Erik Pieters also scored his first goal as a Burnley player.

Wood can be an interesting one if partnered with jrod

What are your thoughts on these options? Salah and Sterling are nailed in my team, King is the other forward

    A) KDB Perez Deulofeu
    B) Siggy Vardy Dunk/jorginho rotation
