The third instalment of the Fantasy Football Scout Charity Cup takes place today.

Following the success of the first two competitions in February and November 2018, which featured around 80 players and raised over £2,000 for the Melanoma Research Foundation and for Campaign Against Living Miserably, this time we’ll be raising money for the Stroke Association.

Most of you will know that Joe, a much-loved member of FFS and the wider Fantasy Football community, recently suffered a bleed on his brain. Thankfully, after a fairly hellish month, he is gradually returning to normal.

The Charity Cup will be held this morning at Whittington Park Astro Pitch in London linked here, meeting at 9:15 am to finalise teams etc.

The full address is Holloway Road, Islington, London N19 4RS. The closest Tube station is Archway on the Northern Line (8min walk) and the closest London Overground station is Upper Holloway (2min walk).

As always, the precise format (including squad sizes) will depend on numbers but everyone will get decent game-time in a 7 or 8 aside format.

This is real-life football (not an FPL online cup!) with players of all ages, fitness and abilities very welcome.

As with previous tournaments, we’ll be organising players into squads, so you don’t need to round up a team yourself, although feel free to invite guest players to boost the numbers.

If you would like to take part please email peter.kouwenberg76@gmail.com with your contact details and you will be added to the WhatsApp group for further information (unless you state that you would rather receive information by separate email only).

Even if you are not able to play, please donate to the Stroke Association at the Just Giving page which is linked here.

I mean it's not the worst team I've seen but it's up there for sure.

You're just taking too many punts and it is almost certain that it would backfire.

He's felt the need to add his Christian name, thought he maybe highlighting his special status.
He misspelt his surname though, so maybe not.

    Bottomed sorry

    Pope (Button)
Robbo VVD Zinch Wan Bis (Lundstram)
    KDB Salah Martial (Jorginho) (Dendocker)
    King Kane Deeney

Plan to play 4-3-3 first game and monitor jorginho.

    Alternatively would you rather;

    A) Martial & Wan Bis
    or
    B) Pogba & 4.5 def

Martial and AWB over Pogba who may not even be here come start of the season.

Would rather see Coleman in there than WanB, but the rest looks good. I obviously love the Martial punt. Even if he doesn’t get to start upfront, I can see plenty of points incoming from him...

    Thoughts on improving this team?
    Ederson button
    Digne TAA Robertson AWB Kelly
    Salah Fraser zaha bilva dedoncker
    Jiminez Rashford long

Is bilva still a thing this year or better trying to upgrade to KDB?

Not to brag here, but this is the best team I’ve seen out of all of them on here. KDB could easily become Pepe, Son etc

    Ryan
    TAA VVD Coleman 4.5(Cathcart maybe)
Salah Sterling KDB Tielemans Wilson Jota
    Button | Dendonker | Greenwood | Kelly

      Brighton keeper 0/10

      Kelly bench warmer 0/10

      4.5 playing defender 4/10

      Otherwise sound enough

Kelly is 3rd on bench though, I’ll look at Lundstram but I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Also there are some good 4.5 defence options like Cath, Diop Guilbert

          Well Kelly has high ownership

          Sakho came back

So he won’t play and when people WC early as they love to do he’ll be straight out the door and result in an early drop to 3.9 imo

Lol because it's your team 😀 You picked it so if obvious changes stand out you must have been quite confused when choosing them or maybe have split personality.

Asking people what to change they will just tell you to swap your players for their players.

For anyone that follows the game closely this whole rmt circus is a waste of time. I couldn't care less what players you guys think I should pick. I know my sh1te as good as anyone 😀
It makes sense for people that don't follow the game that closely

Ignore pre season form it's a completely useless predictor. Doing well in pre season likely means you are fitter and/or trying harder and/or technically superior to the opposition.

Jota I think will do reasonably well in the premier league.

Why is there always so little love for Martial from United managers? 0.44 xG per 90 minutes last season. It's great score imho.

    1. Sgt Frank Drebin
      • 9 Years
      6 years, 9 months ago

Given that he tends to overperform his expected goals with his great finishing that's probably over 0.5 goals per 90 minutes.

      1. Get up ya bum
        • 16 Years
        6 years, 9 months ago

Managers couldn't care less about your xg stats. They have certain demands of their players and martial while very talented obviously struggles to do what's required consistently.

        1. Sgt Frank Drebin
          • 9 Years
          6 years, 9 months ago

What is it exactly that is required from him? well if they don't care about xG maybe they should... Maybe not solely xG but stats overall. There are two teams that use them very much and wiped out the whole league last season...

          1. Sgt Frank Drebin
            • 9 Years
            6 years, 9 months ago

I mean I realize that he's probably not that good in pressing, winning the ball high up the pitch or something like this, but I would like to know precisely.

            1. Get up ya bum
              • 16 Years
              6 years, 9 months ago

Couldn't tell you precisely because I am not these managers you refer to. I'm just saying it's obviously the tactical/mental side that's his problem not ability

              1. Sgt Frank Drebin
                • 9 Years
                6 years, 9 months ago

That's why I wanted to know precisely, because a personal opinion of a manager may be very biased from number of reasons, even such as a player is not popular in the team. Especially that from what I know Manchester United do not us statistics as much as City or Liverpool.

All teams at this level use statistics. But managers have far more detailed and nuanced tactical demands of players than that. It's funny you bring up Pep and Klopp because they are two of the most precise and demanding managers in the game and a player like martial would never cut it for them. Heck just look at sane. He's the most talented left winger in the world and he can't get in the team because he can't implement what's required tactically and mentally.

            1. Sgt Frank Drebin
              • 9 Years
              6 years, 9 months ago

Yes they use statistics but to a different extent. And there are even top-level clubs that don't care that much about them and still win. And I'm not saying that a players doesn't need to implement what's required tactically. I'm just geniunely corious what's wrong with him despite having a great talent managers don't rate him. Hence my question.

Grealish is nailed (and a very good player) but I'm not sure if he's a FPL player. He'll be involved but not many assists and goals throughout the season. James i like the look of but not sure if he'll start.

I like Grealish - 6 goals 5 assists in his last 15 league starts (I think that's right) - I reckon he'll thrive in the PL, and prove good value at 6.0

Not greenwood, but plan to rotate Jorginho with a couple of 4.5m defenders. Not keen on Maddison as I already have Perez

Grealish, Brooks, Willian? I've similar draft and also considering Wilson instead of King + 5.5 mid. Willian still on holidays which is bit worrying though he should be having set pieces and maybe penalties.

How’s this out of 10 and how should I improve it?

    Ryan/Button
    Robertson/Laporte/Digne/TAA/Kelly
    Fraser/Salah/Perez/Sterling/Dendoncker
    Jota/King/Greenwood

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Sort of agree but only on condition Villa stop buying.

They’re still in the market for another 2/3 apparently so they’re all wait and see for me. How they line up and if they gel feels completely up in the air. I prefer known combinations and certainty to start.

Think I am starting with this at present, yes there are a few unknowns but need to start with bones of a solid squad & go from there?

    Ederson
    Trent, Virgil, Digne, Zinchenko
    Salah, Sterling, Moura, Cellabos
    Wilson, Jota

    Button, Dendoncker, Greenwood, Stearman.

GK expensive but thinking set & forget, Allison & Ederson top choices.
Moura & Cellabos give me options if a Levi’s mid or similar shines.

How you setting up at present?

Thoughts on this? A couple of real cheapies starting, but allows some big hitters, and will give me time/funds to act quickly.

    Ederson
    VVD Digne Robertson
    Salah KDB Richarlison Jorginho
    Aguero King Greenwood

    Button Dendoncker Lundstram Gibson

True, although 5.0 gets you a playing mid, but no playing forward.

          Aguero & Jorginho
          V
          Sterling & Long/Ayew/Success

Aguero on pens just about swings it for me (and maybe a tiny bit more nailed), but agree it’s a bit of a coin toss.

Obviously Jorginho is just an enabler, but probably on pens in a team with fairly quick skilful wingers.

Kdb still a question mark, but absolute bargain at 9.5 if he can get the sort of returns he’s used to.
