Lacazette, Luiz, Ceballos and Pepe on the bench for Arsenal

There are two Premier League matches kicking off at 14:00 BST today.

Arsenal head north to take on Newcastle United at St. James’ Park, while Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers meet at the King Power Stadium.

The headline team news from Tyneside is that Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) – who had been a doubt for this game with an ankle knock – is only a substitute, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) leading the line for the Gunners.

David Luiz (£6.0m), Nicolas Pepe (£9.5m) and Dani Ceballos (£5.5m) also have to make do with a place on the bench.

Youngsters Reiss Nelson (£5.5m) and Joe Willock (£5.0m) start behind Aubameyang.

Joelinton (£6.0m) makes his competitive Newcastle debut and will be joined by an out-of-position Miguel Almiron (£6.0m) in attack, with Steve Bruce keeping faith with the wing-back system that Rafael Benitez favoured in 2018/19.

Matt Ritchie (£5.5m) has recovered from injury and will line up on the left flank.

There are no major shocks at Leicester, with Ayoze Perez (£6.5m) making Brendan Rodgers’ starting XI as expected.

Perez joins Jamie Vardy (£9.0m) and James Maddison (£7.0m) in the Foxes’ line-up but Marc Albrighton (£5.5m) drops to the bench as Wilfred Ndidi (£5.0m) is brought in to bolster central midfield.

Wolves are at full strength, with Raul Jimenez (£7.5m) and Diogo Jota (£6.5m) again paired together in a two-pronged attack.

Jimenez and Matt Doherty (£6.0m) both returned from injury lay-offs in the Europa League on Thursday night and the Irish wing-back also makes Nuno Espirito Santo’s first starting XI of the 2019/20 campaign.

Newcastle United XI: Dubravka, Schär, Lascelles, Dummett, Manquillo, Shelvey, Hayden, Longstaff, Ritchie, Almirón, Joelinton.

Arsenal XI: Leno, Maitland-Niles, Chambers, Sokratis, Monreal, Guendouzi, Xhaka, Mkhitaryan, Willock, Nelson, Aubameyang.

Leicester City XI: Schmeichel, Ricardo, Söyüncü, Evans, Chilwell, Ndidi, Choudhury, Tielemans, Maddison, Pérez, Vardy.

Wolves XI: Patricio, Coady, Bennett, Boly, Doherty, Dendoncker, Moutinho, Neves, Jonny, Jota, Jimenez.

West Ham couldn't even qualify for the Europa League. Neither could Burnley. Pipe Down.

No chance. Mid tier La Liga sides have beaten Premier League sides multiple times in European competitions although that wasn't the case last year. I blame the money Prem teams have been getting which gives them ridiculous benefits of attracting foreign players. Nothing against the Prem but I disagree that La Liga sides aren't capable of beating a side like West Ham.

I agree. As someone's who's British and I watch both league, I think both are pretty much equal. Spanish teams have the better players and more technical players. Premier league has the pace and intensity because its different style.

2 seasons ago, Atletico knocked arsenal out of Europe. Sevilla knocked out Man United. Real Madrid knocked out Liverpool. And Barca knocked out Chelsea. And it's been that consistent for years. Teams like Valencia, Sevilla beating the English sides.
Yes last season was a little different but that's like 1 season in like the last 10!

It doesn't need to be 5-0. Just easy scorelines in general. I watch every Barca game and without Messi they'd struggle to win most games. He's the difference. Hence why Madrid lost like 10 games in the league since Ronaldo left. People are delusional.

Vardy invisible and missed a tap in. Tielemans is the main man for creating chances. His touch, vision and passing range is brilliant. Maddison similarly and has the dead ball set pieces in his locker but not sure he is worth the 0.5 over Tielemans. Perez has been fairly quiet too and hasn’t been provided with a great deal of service in open space.

Jota looks most likely for Wolves. His link up play with Jiménez is fantastic but they have had to rely on a couple of counter attacks as the Foxes maintaining the majority of possession and territory of the pitch

Perez is the kind of player that will go quiet, then pop up with goal. Patience will be key with owning him. Over the whole season, I expect him to get north of 12 goals.

Can you explain to me what expected goals means with a player? If it is 0.55 does this mean that he should score 1 every 2 games? Just trying to work out how to use this data and what it is based upon when you looking in stats in members area

      1. IRBOX ⚽
        • 7 Years
        4 years, 8 months ago

xG stands for expected goals. An xG of 0.55 means that the quality of the chance should result in a goal being scored 55% of the time by the average player. An xG of 0.99 means the shot/chance is almost unmissable (eg a tap in), whereas an xG of 0.01 means a goal is extremely unlikely to be scored from the opportunity (eg 40 yard volley or bicycle kick from outside the 18 yard box). Hope that helps

Watching Leicester v Wolves. Leicester fan but no players in my team from either side. Was expecting a tight game. Upgraded Tielemans to KDB at last minute.

First minute - Doonckers shot over.
Last min 1st half - Jota on goal, falls over.

I'll definitely take a 0-0. 3 points each for Perez and Dendoncker and at least 6 for Soyuncu. That'll do. More of the same, please!
