The Scoutcast is back for Gameweek 2 and will broadcast today at a new earlier time.

For the rest of the 2019/20 season, the show will run from 20:00 to 21:00 UK time on Tuesday evenings (where possible) on our official YouTube channel.

This is to ensure fewer late nights both for our Scoutcasters and our viewers too!

The Scoutcast made history ahead of Gameweek 1 as we overtook Last of the Summer Wine for total episodes.

The famous sitcom ran for a total of 295 episodes between 1973 and 2010.

Last week, we the Scoutcast’s episode count went to 296 and we were joined by one of the show’s long-time guest Granville.

After such a momentous episode, we felt like making history for a second week running.

Ahead of Gameweek 2, we are joined by founder of Fantasy Football Community Holly Shand, who will be the first female guest on the Scoutcast.

The maths teacher and mother of one has only been playing Fantasy Premier League a short time but already has an impressive record.

In five seasons playing the game, she has two top 10,000 finishes and has already started the 2019/20 with 94 points scored in Gameweek 1.

Holly will join regulars Joe, Luke and Az to discuss all the key talking points ahead of Gameweek 2.

That includes what to do with potential Harry Kane and Anthony Martial bandwagons as well as how to handle our transfers in the coming days.

As ever, you can watch live on our YouTube channel but after the broadcast is over, the Scoutcast will be available on the usual platforms.

Lessons learned from Gameweek 1

Not wanting to do Moura to Martial this week but if don’t and price rises will not be able to do next week without other move-which would be Trossard to 5.5 (McGinn or Robinson) or Wilson to 7.5 m striker.
Best option assuming Martial price rises ?

    A Make move this week
B Next week with Trossard to 5.5 m
C Next week with Wilson to 7.5
D Forget Martial and next week go Wilson to Kane and Moura to Dendoncker

    Pope
    TAA Van Dijk Digne
    Salah Sterling Pérez Moura Trossard
    Wilson Jota

    McGovern Rico Diop Greenwood

Don’t do it if you don’t want to

What is your current OR about 2.5m?

Thinking similar thoughts as worried will get left behind in the dust if action not taken (originally planned to roll a FT)

I think Moura to Martial is an awesome move based on the data we have so far but always best to try and hold 1 more week. Wolves is a tough fixture. However it's the price rise of Martial that am worried about

Coz it burns a FT and you’ll need to burn another by GW5

However if you’re happy it’s short term and it’ll pay off why not?

Yeah it’s def a short term thing, but I don’t see any issues in my team to fix with 2 free transfers next week. Might just do this and not worry about Liverpool getting clean sheet every game.

Is there a good reason NOT to get El Ghazi by GW3? Maybe he doesn't shoot often (Bilva type), or his spot in the AVL team is at risk? Not enough data to go off on from the Spurs game, so I'd appreciate feedback from Villa fans or those who watched Championship last season. Thanks 🙂

    1. Majestic Chanka
      • 9 Years

      A few reasons;

      He doesn’t shoot enough
      His spot is at risk
      We don’t have enough data

Trossard, if he's still out of the XI in GW2. I want to trust the manager's comments, but I'm ready to adapt and weighing options that could replace him. None seem to stand out for now though

      2. Ze_Austin
        • 7 Years
        7 years, 1 month ago

I honestly didn't know of his shooting or rotation risk, hence the question. Seeing that he ticks both boxes means I'd look elsewhere. Thanks 🙂

Also, the point on data... I'd need about 4 GWs for those to start counting to me, and I might need to ship out Trossard sooner than that. El Ghazi looked like a good option based on his position in the team and fixtures, so I asked for those who'd have the benefit of the eye test from Championship, as Opta stats from Championship aren't available to me. Would check for other replacements, then

After last game Trez did well and played instead of Jota so El Ghazi or AEG seems safe. I went with McGinn to start and he's still best Villa mid option in FPL imo

Honestly I’m talking crap just parroting back to you but they are fair points that I think you do already heavily suspect to be true.

I would say that no player in a promoted side is nailed on.
I don’t remember seeing him shoot much.
McGinn having got a goal will have that going for him as an alternative at the same price.

I do feel that other better alternatives at other clubs will also come through in next few weeks. Especially keeping an eye on Robinson at SHU.

If they have a bug with prices and haven't been able to make price rises, we might see soon more sudden surprise rices?!?

Not saying this is a fact or likely at all, but we are unable to rule this possibility out. Imagine the scenes here should that happen 😉

Ha, it’s always been slow at the start of the season

Who’s to say the amount of players in FPL dilutes the impact of transfers

It’s also based on player performance - who knows what FPL have chosen to consider when considering a price rise - maybe it’s just a case the criteria hasn’t been reached

    Anytime goalscorer odds:
    King 23/10
    Pukki 8/5
    Kane 12/5

I did upgrade Kane to Pukki, since Pukki is more likely to score this week than Harry.

These odds are a waste of time for selecting fpl teams . They only reflect by now the amount of punters money placed on each outcome . You need the initial book to view the general odds compilers opinions . Pukki is hardly an upgrade on Kane

      1. Wilshere Knowledge
        • 13 Years

Kane has only scored 1 goal in 3.5 years against City tbf, and that was a penalty...

Removing Kane right now is an error unless you are lacking on of Sterling or Salah.

Removing for this gameweek is needed imo. Maybe not forever for some. But this gw yes. He was poor at the weekend. Second goal was good, but the rest of the play was crap

Oh so it's for a hit ? Changes things then.
FWIW I think I'm bringing in Pukki as I think that could well prove to be great value long term.

      3. Olivier Bernards watch
        • 12 Years

i dont understand your claim. Sure, the bookies probably think that kane is more likely to score than is implied by those odds, but they will have discounted the scoring odds for all players in the same way, meaning that the ranking of which players are most likely to score remains unchanged.

        1. George Sillett
          • 10 Years
          7 years, 1 month ago

Doesn't quite work like that. It's only the initial book which reflects the odds compiler opinions ( granted with their margin built in which is pretty small on anytime goalscorer markets). Markets after that reflect the liabilities held by them for each outcome . They also trade with each other . The prices will alter due to this too. The 12/5 for Kane is the best price , most are trading way shorter . Same for Pukki.
There's a big difference between chances of something happening and financial exposure.

Not true. There isn't a mass market in goalscorer bets so the bookies don't have to adjust for their exposure like for England in a major tournament years ago.

        1. George Sillett
          • 10 Years
          7 years, 1 month ago

Yes there is. Huge exposure to Asian markets where goalscorer and correct score betting are by far away the biggest proportion of overall football bets and the sums wagered are eye watering.

Original offer for Pukki to score was actually lower, 13/10. Had I both, I would actually rather bench Kane than Pukki. But anyway, it would be no brainer since Teemu is also much more likely to get baps than Harry if they score this week.

We are nation of 5.5 million people and even if he is only temporarily upgrade (and only in fantasy and for just one week), it felt good to say that he is better fpl prospect for this gameweek than Harry Kane 🙂

It has been a while after Sami Hyypiä and Jari Litmanen (and times when Hodgson coached our national team). And mostly downhill after that.

I think most are getting rid of Moura due to son's return and city game which is sensible. I also seen that Perez wasn't very much impressive and was on the wing with tough fixtures coming up. Who would you lose 1st (probably for Martial)?

It would be a tough hold right now, considering the cheaper alternatives, but if you're happy with the rest of your team and don't need the cash, I think he'll eventually repay you.

    A) kane and martial

Thinking of bringing in Callum Robinson from Sheff United in for Perez - need to free up funds for Kane in GW3 & actually prefer Robinson’s fixture this week (Sheff U v Crystal Palace rather than Chelsea v Leicester) plus disappointed to see Perez playing on the right wing with little goal threat

What would you do - stick or twist?

    All input gratefully received

I own Robinson and think he could prove to be a good pick. However, I also own Perez and despite a blank in GW1 I think he needs more time. We can't expect attacking returns from a 6.5 mid every week, he plays for a decent side, is a proven goal scorer in the prem and will get chances. My advice would be to hold off for now. I'd monitor the likes of Robinson and McGinn another week before investing regardless.

Hmmmm - it’s a tough call , looking at my team , I’ll need to shift out Perez regardless next week to fund Kane, for me it’s a question if I do it a week earlier for the better fixture

Agree with you on the Robinson / McGinn situation, just prefer Robinson’s average position & pre season goal scoring

        Will wait & think

This week you are thinking Perez is the one to ditch, next week you may change your mind based on his performance or another member of your team looking poor, getting inured etc. Up to you of course but I think I'd wait.

Fair points but normally 60% is mid table and out of sight

A player in late 80s with interest could be considered one to monitor, late 90’s will they won’t they

As below Ederson and sterling have exceeded 100 twice this week and no price increases have been implemented

I’d say based on that currently it looks unlikely

If come Fri he’s in the 90s then maybe things change

Twice now ederson and sterling have gone over 100 and still not moved with considerably better performances and significantly more transfers

Are any Pope-Heaton owners starting to second guess? I mean, is Aston Villa at home to Bournemouth really that much of a better chance for defensive points than Burnley away to Arsenal? And is it enough of a difference to justify the extra 0.5? Maybe Pope is just as likely to get save points, if not not more likely, considering he is behind the Burnley defence. I know the fixtures stay tough for a while, but starting to think it might have been better just to run with Pope...

I went with Heaton (4.0) but wish I'd done Pope tbh, I was kinda thinking I'd swap them when wildcarding but we'll see - Pope can def outscore Heaton over the next 3 despite the fixtures

      1. Dananz
        • 11 Years

Yeah tough one. I think the thing we need to remember is that the keeper doesn't make the team. I was drawn in by Heaton's pedigree, but I forgot that it doesn't mean that Villa will suddenly become as resilient as Burnley.

As a long-term "casual", not very much, evidently. And no offense to your team, but I'm sure many previous teams coming up from the Championship with a great defensive record have had a hard time in that regard in the PL. But I guess Burnley show that it can be done. I'll be happy to be proven wrong. All the best to you and your team!

GK rotation is fraught with benched points. Pope could well outscore Heaton this week but you presumably picked the two of them so that Heaton could play in GW2 and GW4. Stick with your plans in these GWs but agree that Pope should end up the better option.

For some reason I just couldn't bring myself to go with Ryan. Maybe it's because his team was nearly relegated last year. But most probably because as a Kiwi, I just couldn't go with an Aussie. Not in the spirit of the game...

trossard and king to rashford and 4.5 mid

i think rash will rise soon and cant afford the 0.1

if i do it im (very) short in midfield so i would have to play dendonker every week or 5 at the back with Rico

    would leave me with:
    pope/heaton
    vvd zinch KWP coleman rico
salah sterling martial dendonker guendouzi? (or other 4.5)
    kane rashford greenwood

    Thoughts please...

    A) Wilson, Perez, Coleman
    B) Kane, Robinson (SHU), Lunstram

    Which would you pick?

With B) I’d have others in the mix for starting / bench options including Dendonker & Rico - feel confident that I can field a strong XI each week - just believe Kane will be essential from GW3, if I go for B) will stagger the transfers over the next two weeks

    All input gratefully received

It’ll be a -4 in total over two gameweeks for B)

Dunno how your team looks like, but I would go B with McGinn instead of Robinson...

Any value in Ndombele? Or just a flukey goal?

He actually seemed to get forward a fair bit which I wasn't expecting. Wouldn't get him yet though, one to watch.

Cheers, yeah I've heard some "Essien rather than Kante" comparisons; would be nice if it works out that way!

Thanks for that, Sir. Ok guess I'll have to hold out for Lo Celso, if he manages to lock down an attacking spot.
