From John Lundstram (£4.0m) to Mason Greenwood (£4.5m) and everyone in between, there was almost as much pre-season discussion about budget Fantasy options as there was regarding premium assets.

Those heavy hitters excelled in Gameweek 1, with five of the six £10.0m+ Fantasy options all delivering returns for their owners.

Seven of the eight £8.0m+ Fantasy Premier League forwards who played this weekend banked at least one goal or assist, while the five £8.5m+ midfielders who started in Gameweek 1 all delivered too.

As Fantasy managers try to shoehorn as many expensive options into their squads, then, we need cut-price FPL assets more than ever.

With that in mind, we will assess the players in the bottom two price rungs of each position to see how they fared in the weekend just gone.

Do people not get that FPLstatistics do not influence price changes, they are simply trying to predict them with very little to base these predictions on atm. Folk going mad and blaming FPLstatistics for only having Martial at 68% is hilarious.

It irked me. I posted about it several times explaining that these price rise sites can’t *predict* rises and fallers until there is an actual rise or fall, but the posts keep coming so now I ignore them.

Yeah agreed. I think most of us who've been around a while understand that it's not gospel and merely an indicator of movement (especially at the start of the season with no data)

The amount of slandering of knee-jerkers is hilarious this year haha

Have people not heard of watching actual football matches, recognising a player not in your team is playing well versus one in your team that did nothing, and wanting to transfer?

I haven’t made a transfer personally as I am content with my team, but if other people want to leave them to it

I've lost count of the number of times I've seen perfectly valid transfers labelled as knee jerking or wasting a transfer. Having said that I've seen as many that actually are knee jerks

Yeh - getting Origi now is the very essence of knee-jerk; bailing out on Chelsea defenders isn't, imo.

As long as you have solid reasons for making a move other than 'he scored duh' it's fine to make a transfer.

Also prudent to remember why you bought a player in the first place. Perez comes to mind. He had a really anonymous game, but his strengths still remain.

After Chelsea he has two great fixtures, he's playing as a second striker (in theory) and he deserves at least another week or two to prove he's worth it.

If one of the reasons you brought him in changes though - if he suddenly is playing really wide and not getting involved, if his fixtures take a turn, then getting rid isn't a mistake or a kneejerk. Just business.

No he isnt. He is fpl gold when he's a starter which he is this season and for 7.5 a great option. Ive got stats to prove it.

Martial last gw + last 2 seasons in pl

      3275 mins = (approximately 36 matches)

20 goals 10 assists So Martial was involved in 30 goals in last 36 matches for united. Thats premium price returns

Martial seems more of a 10 or wider, than an out and out CF, he should get lots of game time but we really don’t know

We really need to watch out for Dan James settling in, I can see him starting down the left (great work rate in tracking back too) and Rashford playing down the middle ... after that it gets a bit iffy for Martial

Most of us who put Moura in their teams did so as a punt whilst we assessed Chelsea, Utd, West Ham mids. Same with Fraser. It was posted hundreds of times by different people over pre season. They are not knee jerking, they are following through with their plans.

An Everton mid to Martial you could at least make the argument that it's a knee jerk as Everton mids were chosen as long-term options due to their opening figures. Still, sometimes you have to be flexible, admit that you are fallible and may have picked the wrong player, and move quickly and decisively.

Especially if you've already decided that that's the move you want to make. What's the point in having 2 free transfers if you know what one of them is going to be, but now it's more expensive and you have to use the other transfer as a downgrade to afford it? It's better to do 7.5 to 7.5 this week, and 5.5 to 5.5 next week than 7.5 to 7.6 this week and 5.5 to 5.0 next week.

Have you kept Moura? I have and I feel surprisingly good about it. If it works out the. I could find an alternative way of bringing in Martial.

No, sold him. Always intended to. Short term punt whilst I assessed other options. I had always hoped to be able to transfer him out before the City game, obviously if I had other fires to deal with I would have kept, but I haven't, so I haven't - he's gone as planned.

Of course, there's other ways to bring him in, and other players will emerge but to me the idea that any gwk1 transfer is a knee jerk is absurd. Scroll through the comments from pre-season, so many people were talking about having x player for gwk1, y player for gwk 1 and 2. That's planning ahead, it's not knee jerking.

But if you feel good about keeping Moura, then of course you shouldn't transfer him out. Play your game, let others play theirs, just don't assume that you know the thought process behind their decisions.

No problem here mate. I don’t judge anyone.

While Moura continues to start I don’t mind who Spurs are playing. One could argue the Citeh game is better than Villa for him as he played very wide in a 433 where as I suspect Poch will go 4222 with Moura alongside Kane.

No doubt Martial looks a great pick. Will see how it plays out.

Wanted to have a slight differential. He also played the most minutes out of any ManU player in pre-season. ManU has good fixtures upcoming and against Chelsea I was quite sure he'd get something due to Chelsea not having Kante and Rudiger 100 % fit. Also the fact that he plays upfront and now wears kit number 9 from Lukaku was good news.

Had trouble if I wanted to have Siggy, Fraser or Martial. For me Moura wasn't an option I was thinking about since I'm not keen on short term picks. Pretty much decided on Martial a few hours before deadline. The other options were not that far behind.

De Bruyne, simply because he'll play more. Mahrez is essentially fighting it out with Sterling and Bernardo for two spots in the eleven over the next few months.

I've a nagging feeling Mahrez is going to go nuclear until Sane gets back

I had it before the weekend but couldn't act on it... He's always a selection risk but Sane injured plus the fact that Mahrez has had a season to 'adapt' to Pep make me think he's good at 8.5

If Vardy blanks again and Mahrez starts again I'd possibly consider a 2 FT move for him

Statistically, players dislike tackling ginger players more than any other, and also VAR is confused by ginger colouring and can't pick-up off-sides.

Reminds me of my Stats lecturer explaining "average" - he said imagine a bush pilot flying over the Alaskan wilderness. His plane crashes and he ends up with his torso and head lying in the snow, but his feet and legs trapped in the burning plane. But on average, his body temperature is perfect...(and then I remember some wag claiming the lecturer was just being mean...)

          Xg is even worse

I still can't get over mcgoldrick having 2 big chances yet an XG of 0.34

What is the XG threshold which when cleared a chance becomes a big chance?

Not sure tbh. Think a big chance is where more times than not, a player in the same position scores. So where xG > 0.5 maybe.

With a proper match on Saturday, they should play in 2nd gear.

FPLStatistics is still in "learning" mode. Every season the algorithm changes, which means it's not always reliable at the start of the season. Use it as a baseline, not as fact.

What to do with this lot?

    Heaton (Pope)
    TAA Robbo Digne Zouma (Lundstram)
    Salah Sterling Fraser Perez (Dendoncker)
    Wilson Jota (Greenwood)

    A) Hold
    B) Zouma out for...
    C) Anything else?

My friend had a pile of books fall on him recently, he's only got his shelf to blame.

How can you blame an inanimate object?? He should take a look at himself.

Have they removed the feature that would allow you to see if one of your rivals have made a transfer already and their squad value? It was normally in the bottom right of the page?

I know, very annoying. You could sometimes predict who they had bought from looking at that.
