Captain Poll

Fantasy Premier League managers have been handed the first captaincy conundrum of the season ahead of Gameweek 3.

After relatively simple debates for the armband in the opening two rounds of matches, it is wide open this week.

Despite amassing more than 50% support for Gameweek 2, Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) blanked at Southampton, which could dent his appeal for the visit of Arsenal to Anfield on Saturday.

However, the Egyptian registered a goal and an assist last time he hosted the Gunners in the Premier League, while it is likely that he and his team-mates will have shaken off any cobwebs following the Super Cup final too.

With Arsenal bottom of the league for clean sheets in away matches last season, Sadio Mané (£11.5m) might enter the conversation this week after he registered a goal and assist against Southampton. The former Saint also scored a goal against Arsenal last season.

However, the man with the best record against the Gunners in 2018/19 was Roberto Firmino (£9.5m), who netted three goals in two such matches last term.

The Brazilian has registered attacking returns in both Gameweeks of 2019/20 so far too.

Those put off by Liverpool’s recent displays might turn to Manchester City’s attack as they prepare for a trip to Bournemouth.

The Cherries are without a clean sheet so far this season and had one of the worst defences last season.

That said, Manchester City scored just once on their last visit to the Vitality Stadium, Riyad Mahrez (£8.5m) getting the goal.

Either way, Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) has made an excellent start to the new campaign, with four goals in his first two matches, which is certainly captainable form.

Kevin de Bruyne (£9.6m) has begun 2019/20 in a similar vein, with three assists and four bonus points so far and a total score of 18.

Those invested in the Belgian to save money can probably feel more confident putting the armband on him than they did ahead of Gameweek 1.

Presenting a third fixture for us to consider are Spurs, who host Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.

The Magpies have already conceded four times this season, letting in three goals on their travels.

In Gameweek 1, Spurs had 31 shots at home against Aston Villa so we might expect a similar volume on Sunday afternoon.

That could be good news for Harry Kane (£11.0m), who scored twice in that match.

We should remember that Son Heung-min (£9.5m) will be back from suspension for Gameweek 3 and could improve Spurs going forward if he is handed a start by Mauricio Pochettino.

You can now vote in our latest captain poll either below or in the sidebar of our website.

Joe and David will be discussing the tricky debate live on our YouTube channel at 12:30pm BST.

Lessons learned from Gameweek 2

I know Newcastle were awful vs Norwich but perhaps they won't be as open vs Spurs.

Sure is tempting though. Would you want Kane long term?

I think I want Kane long term, was always the plan. He is nailed as they come and doesn't get shifted out wide, on pens and has great fixtures. I forget that hits don't have to pay off in one GW at this point in the season.

I think he will. My expectation was for him to start against City, barely touch the ball and be the fall guy for Son. However, coming on and scoring will probably see him rewarded with a start against Newcastle. Guesswork really though.

Suggested changes here, if any? 2 FT, 0ITB.

Hold and wait on injury news re Digne or else go Robbo & King > AWB & Pukki (possibly followed by Perez > Martial the week after)

    Pope - Button
    Robertson - VVD - Digne - Zinchenko - Lundstram
    Sterling - KDB - Salah - Perez - Dendocker
    King - Jota - Greenwood

Three players walk straight to a price fall...
    Zouma, Aké and Perez.

My FT is Kane In Kuba Out (was a one week punt).

Would you stay calm or take hits or maybe WC because of these three?

Think Perez can deliver now and i am actually on the point of pushing on Zouma. #againstallodds #nopukkiniceparty

    Pope Ryan

    TAA VVD Digne Zinchenko Lundstram

    Salah Sterling KDB Perez Deondocker

    King Jota Greenwood

Got 2FT - thinking Perez to Martial and TAA to Wan-B/Maguire? Can't really find a way to shoehorn in Kane so will just need to hide behind the sofa on Sunday.

    Any thoughts guys?

You dont HAVE to get Martial. Id be more interested in trying to get Pukki or Barnes or both. People like Mount, Trossard wont score as many points as martial but could offer similar value.

I've wildcarded and pretty set on the following

    Pope (4.0)

    AWB, Emerson, TAA, Digne, Lundstram

    KDB, Sterling, Mount, Martial, ??

    Kane, Greenwood, ??

I've got 13mill left, do i get King and Like Grealish so i can rotate and still have money left over, or go big on a 5th mid and bench foddler attacker, or good striker and bench foddler 4.5 for midfield...

I genuinely don't think Pukki is going to keep this up, so it's a wee bit of a punt on my part...

Of course he isn't gonna keep this up but anywhere between 15-20 goals is exceptional value for 6.7

you just ride it and jump on to the next one with additional money in the bank.

in some ways ALL of the non-premium slots in your team are just there to make money not points (points for non-premiums are very unpredictable), in order to re-invest into more premiums in 2H season
