What has happened to Ryan Fraser this season?

It has not been a memorable start to the season for Bournemouth midfielder Ryan Fraser (£7.3m).

After registering a total of seven goals and 14 assists in 2018/19, the Scottish international has now gone three matches of the new campaign without a single attacking return.

Not surprisingly, Fraser has already dropped £0.2m in price as Fantasy managers look elsewhere for value in midfield.

However, is there a possibility that they may come crawling back when Bournemouth’s fixtures become a little more favourable.

Gameweek 3 pitted the Cherries against defending champions Manchester City, while this weekend takes them to face Leicester City.

After those two tough matches, Gameweek 5 sees Eddie Howe’s men host Everton before they clash with Southampton (away) and West Ham (home).

We have assessed Fraser’s numbers from the first three matches of 2019/20 to see whether his owners should be patient or not.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for the new season can access it in full.

How has Fraser started the season?

Lessons learned from Gameweek 3

    Anyone else think now isn't the time to buy Mount? Lovely fixture this week but then Wolves away and then Liverpool after. If you already have him great... but I think I'd rather wait until their crazy run of fixtures start in GW7.

        I actually thought this, but if I implied Sheff Utd was a harder fixture than it looks, people would've jumped all over it.

        2 goals away to Derby last season suggests otherwise but as a Henderson owner I hope you're right

      This has been my advice to new suitors, as a Mount owner. There are better fixtures out there within the bracket (and, heck, Cantwell), and it's easier to handle the price rises if you count Mount as a 6.5m mid and stop attaching self to preseason prices. Mount and/or Tammy from GW7 would be awesome. Before then: Sheffield is a defensive team which won't give him lots of space. Same with Wolves. Liverpool looks shaky but is still a good defence. He's capable of scoring in each of these fixtures or assisting as he's on all set pieces, so that's the counter-argument

      This is the man who said Lacazette needs to be more professional. Yes, Lacazette.

      There's a running theme with pundits picking on a certain type of player, only to do idiotic and illegal things themselves.

        I would get rid of Mané (don't need Liv players, and the money tied up in them, for this fixture), and as mentioned get Aguero and triple up on citys attack. Zinch - Boly and Coleman - Digne is also something I would do for the same money.
        Otherwise it looks good, could go Haller instead of Abraham as well. Like mentioned Sheffield play a tight game, and while Abraham scored a brace and should start this one, there is still a lot of questions around that spot in Chelsea. Up until now they've been alternating between him and Giroud, so Haller a safer pick.

        So maybe:
        Adrian(button)
        Boly - Digne - Kelly (Lundstram - Rico)
        Sterling KDB Lanzini Son (Cantwell)
        Pukki Haller Aguero

        Son could be Pépé as well, just think there will be a lot of goals in that game and they're both great differentials.

        Best of luck

      Quick forward vs mid argument.

      Low value Mids are never consistent imo and their respective players e.g. Pukki over Cantwell, Barnes over Mcneil and Haller over Lanzini etc are much more reliable.

      Whereas the high value forwards have cheaper midfield options who are just as reliable. E.g. KDB over Aguero, Son over Kane and Pepe over Aubam. Even Maddison over Vardy.

      Therefore I'd much rather spend the money in midfield and rely on cheap attackers to get the goals. Ofcourse Aguero, Kane, Aubam etc may get hattrick or braces every now and then but long team i see money in midfield the better option.

      Thoughts?

      1. Witty Pun: Not good at this…
        • 7 Years
        4 years, 8 months ago

        Maddison and Pepe aren't as reliable as Aubameyang and Vardy lol. Not even close.

        These things change in a blink of an eye. There is often a very cheap highscoring mid or two (look at Fraser last season, King three seasons ago, Mahrez and Alli in the greatest PL season ever, just to name a few), and until this season, very few cheap forwards were really worth buying the past few years (Jimenez being the exception).

        I always prefer spending on midfield as a rule, but that doesn't mean I don't like cheap budget mids like Cantwell who probably should have been priced at 6.0 or the occasional premium forward like Kane or Vardy (does Vardy count?). Don't pigeonhole yourself, consider every option.

        1. Tsparkes10
          • 5 Years

          Yh for sure. I had Aubam and Kane for first few weeks but jumping on Pukki and Welsey as my forwards rn.

          I honestly do think Pepe can match Aubam especially if Laca plays up top and Aubam on the left. Also Maddison on set pieces and their most dangerous/creative player from what I watched last week. Ofcourse Vardy is Vardy and is more explosive.

          Guess it will change all the time but for rn I'd rather money in midfield, not saying I'd avoid Cantwell etc at all just prefer premium mids to premium attackers

          1. Witty Pun: Not good at this…
            • 7 Years
            4 years, 8 months ago

            Maddison is very fickle, having watched all his games last year. His regular shooting is also often quite poor. He is a great asset to the team but he'll be more of a creator and that's why Vardy is more reliable. Pepe could MAYBE match Aubameyang, especially with Auba disrespected and shoved on the left. But even in France he had trouble with parked buses which is what Arsenal will see a lot of so he's a big wait and see for me.

            Yeah that's a fair enough position to hold its fairly similar to mine really.

      What to do this week guys?
      Jota is a major concern obviously.

      1) Jota-> Haller
      2) Jota-> Barnes
      3) Perez-> Mount
      4) Martial (if out) KWP-> kdb soyncu for -4
      5) Perez robbo-> kdb soyncu for -4

      Heaton (pope)
      Robbo vvd kwp digne (lundstram)
      Salah sterling martial perez (dendo)
      Pukky jota (greenwood)

        1 or 3. Maybe target 3 to strengthen mid if Tony is out?

      What do we think of James (Man U)? If going to play, looks like good value? Or too early to say...?

        I think he looks promising long term, im not sure about him at the moment he scored a good goal but didn't really do a lot else against palace

          Avoid the -8. Seems attractive but I took same hit last week and regret it.

            Quick question - I'm doing monthly prizes with a mate. Am I right in thinking August will conclude after Arsenal v Spurs on Sunday 1st Sept?

            Slowly repairing my starting squad.
            I still have Siggy Perez King Jota damaging my value (and rank)
            what's my most urgent move?
            I'm reluctant to hit the WC so early into the season.

            Ederson
            TAA Robbo Digne
            Salah KDB Siggy Perez Ceballos
            Pukki King

            Button Jota Lundstram Rico

            Is Jota the right player to bench this GW?
            Any moves worth a -4 this GW?

              Not for me with his risk of rotation. Different story if you had Aguero.
