With no goals, assists, clean sheets or bonus points to his name after three Gameweeks of the 2019/20 campaign, Emerson Palmieri (£5.5m) is hardly staking a convincing claim to be in Fantasy managers’ squads going forward.

The Chelsea left-back has shown some encouraging signs in an attacking sense, however, while the Blues’ forthcoming fixture run is among the more appealing in the division.

Between now and the November international break, Frank Lampard’s side face just one of the ‘big six’: a Gameweek 6 clash with Liverpool the only cloud on the horizon.

The Blues thus sit top of our Season Ticker for ‘defence’ between Gameweeks 4 and 12, which will provide faint hope of a long-awaited first clean sheet of 2019/20 – even if Chelsea’s defence is currently doing anything but.

Only Norwich City have conceded more goals than Lampard’s troops (seven) so far, while the west London club are among seven teams yet to register a shut-out.

Clean sheets are also thin on the ground across the Premier League, though, with just three in Gameweek 3 and two in Gameweek 2.

Indeed, Everton are the only club to have kept more than one league shut-out this season.

With that in mind, perhaps we should be placing even more emphasis than we usually do on defenders who can compensate for a loss of clean sheet with a semi-regular attacking return.

Emerson’s attacking credentials will, therefore, be the primary focus of this Members’ piece.

Lessons learned from Gameweek 3

    Gtg?

    Ederson
    AWB VVD Digne
    Sterling(c) Salah Mount Perez
    Wilson Jota Barnes

    Button, Diop, Dendo, Rico

Is there a better move than
Martial, Perez to Kdb, McGinn with 2ft and exact funds?
    Or WC?

So Mendy walks back in team when fully fit or what? Will he be ready after IB?
If so, currently at 5.9, surely everyone will get him right?
Template back 4 of Digne TAA Emerson Mendy is what I am calling

keeping my WC to do the formation switch once Zinchenko starts getting rotated, will be 2 much rotating between the 2 when city are playing in all comps!

    RMWCT:

    Pope (Button)
    Laporte/TAA/Digne (Mings/Lundstram)
    Salah/KDB/Sterling/Mount/Cantwell
    Pukki/Barnes (Greenwood)

    Thanks!

Looks nice, but strike force slightly could be a worry long term. Maybe downgrade one of the premium defenders and upgrade up top?

On a WC. Any thoughts on this team....? Defence worries me, but keen to get the city trio...

    Pope - Heaton
    Matip - Mings - Soyu - Kelly - Lundstram
    Salah - Sterling - KdB - Mount - Cantwell
    Aguero - Pukki - Greenwood

    Playing 3-5-2

    Cheers!

      Heaton > Button

Gives you money to upgrade your defense. Matip way too risky with Gomez who could easily come in.

But hard to fault your front 7. You're committed to getting Aguero. I don't think it's worth it, but it's your call. Would rather have Haller up front and have a stronger defense seeing as I rate TAA and Digne as equal in attacking threat to a mid.

If you want 2 keepers go with Pope and Adrian. I'm doing that and getting Lowton in defense so I can get Burnley CS's in easier games either way.

What we learnt in the runup to gameweek 4…

    Liverpool

Klopp will not rest players until after the IB, so expect a full strength team. Alisson’s recovery will still take time because after the his muscle recovers it will still have to reach the needed level of strength.
    https://twitter.com/neiljonesgoal/status/1167415503532544001?s=20

    Man City

Stones and Jesus are a lot better but Pep doesn’t know if they’re ready for tomorrow. They’ll be back after the IB regardless. Cancelo is “Starting to understand” so “maybe tomorrow, maybe after the IB” he could be looking at playing.
    https://twitter.com/City_Xtra/status/1167415764615356416?s=20

    Arsenal

Bellerin, Tierney and Mavropanos are aiming to return in September whilst Holding has already been picking up minutes for the under-23s but isn’t 100% ready. Lacazette has been struggling with an ankle injury recently, Monreal may still be sold. Ozil is available.
    https://twitter.com/charles_watts/status/1167064873395789824?s=20

    Leicester

No decision has been made on Chilwell’s fitness, but Ndidi is fit. Morgan has a small issue, so will also be tested late.
    https://twitter.com/BBCRLSport/status/1167421404347850752?s=20

    Manchester United

Martial and Shaw have been confirmed out. OGS hopes that Martial will return after the IB, with Shaw a week or two later. Smalling is off to Roma and will likely be followed to Italy by Darmian.
    https://twitter.com/ManUtdMEN/status/1167364169605292032?s=20

    Burnley

Gudmundsson is unlikely to feature this weekend but only has a minor calf issue. Brady and Defour still out.
    https://twitter.com/BurnleyOfficial/status/1167057296146468867?s=20

    Tottenham

Dier is likely out, KWP and Foyth both definitely out but Sessegnon is now in the late stages of rehab. Ndombele is also out.
    https://twitter.com/Dan_KP/status/1167403554627358720?s=20

    Brighton

Bissouma could be involved to some extent vs Burnley (after IB), but Isquierdo and Schelotto are out. There’s no new injury concerns other than that.
    https://twitter.com/Brian__Owen/status/1167058743164620801?s=20

    Sheffield United

Wilder confirmed he was keen to keep the defence and goalkeeper settled, but was open to changing around the options higher up the pitch – he was pleased to have different options to try. Mousset and McBurnie could be in contention for minutes. Fleck expected to miss out.
    https://twitter.com/FFScout/status/1167063140514877440?s=20

    Crystal Palace

Tomkins is close to recovering and Dann has a cast on his hand so will face a late test. Other than that, Palace are ok.
    https://twitter.com/CPFC/status/1167413797214216192?s=20

    Bournemouth

Daniels will miss the rest of the season through injury. Cook and Francis are close but not ready to return, Kelly and Gosling are working back but aren’t ready. Danjuma is not clear, but still out. Brooks will miss another 12 weeks.
    https://twitter.com/peterrutzler/status/1167353215740010496?s=20

    Everton

The only injured player is Gbamin, everyone else is ok.
    https://twitter.com/philkecho/status/1167415600051892224?s=20

    Chelsea

Kante is not fit and won’t travel with France either. Pedro is also out, Rudiger is getting closer to a return – will play for the development squad this evening. Mount is fine.
    https://twitter.com/NizaarKinsella/status/1167408938272337920

    West Ham

Antonio is out of the weekend game but the severity of the injury is not known yet – it’s likely a pretty bad one then. Reid is also out (only for a few more weeks), but Hernandez is back

    Wolves

Wolves got through their EL without picking up any injuries, so should be ok for the weekend. However, Doherty revealed he didn’t feel 100% yet during the week. Most news (if there is any) likely embargoed from Torino post match conference.

    Aston Villa

DS talked about how El Mohamady will be really challenged for the position by Guilbert. Targett is out, as is Chester, with Kodija unlikely to feature. Everyone else is ok.

    Norwich

Klose will be out for 4 months at best case scenario, but it could be up to a year out. It was important that a number of players, Pukki and Cantwell included, had a rest after the Chelsea game because they gave a lot. Hanley is out for tomorrow after injuring himself this morning. Drimic is available, Tettey will travel too. Zimmermann is back too.

    Southampton

Redmond will be out for “Two or three weeks” so will definitely miss this weekend. Djenepo is injured and Obafemi is struggling to be fit enough to start as well.

    Newcastle

Bad news for Newcastle with Ritchie out until October. Saint-Maximin will miss 5 weeks and Gayle is still not improving, but Carroll could be back for the Liverpool game after the IB. Yedlin trained for the first time yesterday.

    Watford

Only Deeney is out for Watford, meaning Gracia has a huge (30 ish) squad to choose from.

Nothing was said, but I think there's a good chance it's just embargoed or something.

None of the Wolves accounts said anything, so unless it's a training thing (probably unlikely) I'd guess it's minor.

Where are these rumours coming from? He played the full 90 minutes and all news seems to be embargoed.

More importantly. Why do I care so much about the fitness of a 4.5 mil midfielder!

Kelly, Rico is now 2nd choice having been 3rd choice. Neale thinks Ake could start at LB.

    Which do you prefer guys?
    A) Maguire, Ceballos, Aguero or
    B) Van Djik, KDB, and Abraham

    My wild card is:

    Pope, Button,
    Digne, Soyuncu, ____, Lundstram, Rico
    Salah, Sterling, Mount, ____, Cantwell
    Pukki, Haller, ____

Abraham would become Barnes soonish, depending on how he performs.
