Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) has made a strong start to the season with two goals and two assists in the first four Gameweeks.

That has made for a total of 27 points, two more than colleague Sadio Mané (£11.5m) and nine short of Mohamed Salah (£12.5m).

Such a score after four matches is made all the more impressive when we consider that Firmino is now by far the cheapest attacking option in Liverpool’s FPL ranks.

The Brazilian represents a £3.0m saving compared to Salah, and can also offer £2.0m in cash compared to Mané.

Despite his potential value, he currently sits in just 11.7% of teams while Mané is owned by 18.9% and Salah 42.9%.

With that in mind, we have assessed whether more Fantasy managers should turn to Firmino from Gameweek 5 onwards.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

How has Firmino compared against Salah and Mané so far?

Lessons learned from Gameweek 4

No one's claiming that..the article just gives a perspective on if he is or can be "better value" than Mo or mane

If you're not gonna captain Salah too much over the next few GWs then Firmino might be the better value option.

      1. Party time
        6 years, 11 months ago

Mané will simply outscore Firmino this season if no injuries. The only reason why he might not outscore salah is because Mo is on pen & some corners. Sadio still scored the same number of goals as Salah last season even with the extra pen duty assigned to salah

Salah had most of his assists from set piece situations, penalties when Milner on the pitch & rebounds. Mané unselfishly gave Mo an assist against burnley but he found the pole, whereas we all saw what Salah did last gameweek.(Don't get me wrong, I like all 3 and they are good players)

It'll drop to the 4.0 which is the price most people bought him at, if he loses his place. Unlikely he would drop hard as a fifth choice as it won't be a priority transfer.

if KDB is not injured i think this point is moot. You can´t sell him, he will skyrocket in price and will bring points almost every week. Only way to have Son is to have another team structure that allows it. 3 cheap strikers, where one is Firmino or Vardy, alongside no Sterling, and a decent but not too expensive defense can give you Son/Pepe.

            1. Warby84
              • 11 Years

I still think son can go on an explosive run like last year and match DeBruyne.. It won’t make it difficult to get DeBruyne back if needed..

WCing is all about plans, and letting price structure give you easy routes to what could come. And for me, that includes priorities and and compromises. And, i want to play with more fun and more points sources. For me then, KDB is a mainstay, Sterling is the compromise, oe of Salah or Mane, plus you can then have Firmino/Vardy AND Son/Pepe and still have 3 decent defenders 6.5,5.5, 5.5 and a 4.5. Yes you might lose a premium captaincy, but you have one and four players that can be captained. Hence why i chose Kun, so i´ll be able in gw7 to readjust to get some of those mentioned in for their prime fixtures. Yes, City have good fixtures but you wil lalso want some of them others when they have so that´s my thinking. I think we are on the same boat.

One should choose only one out of Son, KDB or Pepé in that price bracket, at least if going with two captainable preiums in addition. Can't be swapping all the time due to price rises, will deplete your TV. So I'm sticking with KDB.

It's all about that LCB spot. Ota played the majority of his games last season in that position. Stones and Fernandinho to rotate for that RCB spot - perhaps even Walker.
So Ota is the safest pick between the two.

Salah and Firmino owner here in the wild. I’m thinking of selling him after the Newcastle game, strangely enough to free up funds for TAA or a switch to Lacazette if he looks like starting against easier opposition.

He’s been quite the differential so far. Hope he returns safe and sound from Brazil and starts vs Newcastle.

I thought Leicester may struggle for goals at the start but they could now be clicking into gear. Ill see how they do vs Man U.

Funny, I'd have thought it was a better time to bring Auba in, given the fixtures. There's almost a case to go Salahless for a few weeks to fund it.

People on here deluded about Otta not being nailed........With Laporte out he is the ONLY left sided CB at City. Talk of Walker and Fern only will apply to cup games and easy CL games and a lot of other issues at City back line need to be kept tight with Zinc not first choice and Walker having a great sea on so far.

Not sure that’s true, playing as a winger really not striker. He barely got a touch against Brighton and if he’d have been playing where Aguero was (as he covered in charity shield and pre season) he’d have been in the goals.

Not saying he is a bad option by any means and I’m keeping, just don’t think he is OOP.

Yes true, think that is more just because he has great timing and positional sense overall though. Guess my point is that if he was playing as striker outright, I think he would be getting 30 odd goals rather than 20 odd a season as an attacking winger.

How much is no Salah going to sting with this lineup in GW5... I put faith in Son & Kane ahead of that run of fixtures with Eriksen back and hopefully Lamela dropped...

    Pope
    TAA, VVD, Digne, Lundy
    Raz, KDB, Son, Mount
    Pukki, Kane (c)
    (Button, Cantwell, Kelly, Wickham)

If Kane doesn't deliver with captaincy I think that pair are looking at being booted out for Mo + a 7-8m striker

I'm sure they'll come back soon however. Their only weakness, once their midfield is up to date, are their fullbacks, and they aren't tremendous weaknesses either. Son especially tempts me a lot, his PP90 last season was something else

Hi all, would love your opinion on what to do here for gw5. Current squad is:

    Pickford
    TAA | Digne | Zinchenko | AWB
    Salah (C) | Sterling (V) | Martial | Mount
    King | Pukki

    Bench: Button, Kelly, Dendoncker, Greenwood
1 FT, £1.8 ITB, WC is available.

    Would you:
    1) Use the FT and if so what change?
    2) Hold
    3) WC?

    Salah 36 points for £12.5m = 2.88 pp£m
    Mane 25 points for £11.5m - 2.17 pp£m
    Firmino 27 points for £9.5m = 2.84 pp£m

The most basic formula shows Salah and Firmino basically the same value, however Mane result is skewwed because he only made a cameo sub appearance in 1st game.

    Salah 36 points in 348 mins = 9.67 mpp
    Mane 25 points in 266 mins = 10.64 mpp
    Firmino 27 in 344 mins = 12.74 mpp

Value based on cost x points per minute.
    Salah 9.67 x 12.5 = 120.8
    Mane 10.64 x 11.5 = 122.36
    Firmino 12.74 x 9.5 = 121.03

If they had all played the same amount of minutes, their value is basically identical.

Compared to all the players in the game, that's not great value for any of them. You'd get a lot more bang for your buck elsewhere.

This! I feel like there must be a better use of salah money but can't find sufficient 9m+ players (kdb only one) that offer significantly better value?
With martial, Mount, pukki, Abraham, haller all offering value, you've really got to find an upgrade to one of them and a downgrade to Salah that proves better use of funds.

The only 4 who have a chance for me for 'value' are pepe, son, lacazette and vardy... All have question marks for me though

Small sample, but Firmino is doing better than last season. Unfortunately for him, he's classified as a forward even though he drops deeper than Mane and Salah, so not sure if he can keep it up. Also not explosive enough to captain.

Will be a coin toss throughout the season between the other two as Mane will often keep up with Salah once again.

          1. MTPockets

You're still right though - should really say:

            Salah 36 points in 348 mins = 0.103 ppm
            Mane 25 points in 266 mins = 0.094 ppm
            Firmino 27 in 344 mins = 0.078 ppm

Value based on points per minute / cost.
            Salah 0.103 / 12.5 = 0.0082
            Mane 0.094 / 11.5 = 0.0082
            Firmino 0.078 / 9.5 = 0.0083

      Mane Firmino TAA
      Sterling KDB Otamendi

..which allows for a 352 with in my case Mount Pukki Cantwell and a 5.0 4.5 4.5 rest of defence.

Salah terrifies me and I know the concept of cover etc...but this looks like a side with more firepower all round...

I would've chose Mane over Salah any day but I'm scared of Salah's EO as soon as Mane blanks and Salah hauls going to fall rank a lot. You'd have to invest that 1m pretty damn well if it was Mane price last year of 3m less it would be easy to find a top quality upgrade to keep pace with the EO of Salah

Cost was multiplied by mpp, not ppm!

This could finally be the day Scotland overtake Kazakhstan in Euro qualifying. Big day for the nation.

As long as Joshua King plays they should be alright.

WC Team (will play 451 or 541) –
    ____ 4.0
    ____ Otamendi 3 x 4.5 (Soyunco Mings Lascelles)
    Salah Sterling KDB Mane ____
    Pukki 4.4 4.4

    1 - Pope, TAA, Cantwell
    2 - Adrian, Alderweireld, Mount

    Option 1 or 2?

Also the 4.5 defenders - suggest the best 3?

Pope is safer bet long term
TAA risk of rotation around champions league is a concern given my bench players (2 out of 3 dont play)
Cantwell will rotate with a defender.

If I can see past not having TAA i think option 2 could be good? but will use transfers when Alisson is back?

If you're worried about none starters, and TAA play time, how about vvd+ayew upgrade for one of 4.4s? mings > Lundstram if need to make up £s

Love 1 really cool team just really annoying about your bench as when UCL rotation kicks in you’re in trouble.

The rotating 3 I came up with were Lundstram (or baldock), Montoya and Aarons

Cheers! If switched to VVD over TAA as suggested above then VVD and Otamendi are nailed on I think!

2 best defences in the league right?

If playing 4 or 5 at the back I'd want better defenders. Not sure the money spent in midfield is worth the lost points in defence.

I have WC to something very similar, but I bought in Matip for LFC cover with Otta and have Barnes up front and Cant in midfield ,......if this helps

I looked at Matip, but then got sucked into trying to own TAA.

I like the VVD suggestion above... especially with roatation risk with Champions League.

Seems sensible with a weak bench!

    Hi all

Any thoughts/feedback on this WC team?

    Thanks

    Pope
    TAA - Digne - Zinchenko - Lundstram
    Salah - Sterling - Tielemans - McGinn
    Aguero - Barnes

    Button / Soyuncu - Cantwell - Nketiah

Otamendi feels marginally safer than Zinchenko depending on Laporte news. I'd fancy a punt on Ceballos over mcginn but minor tweak... I like it.

Laporte has had an Operation on knee, so not looking like he will be back any time soon
