We take our regular look back at the Premier League line-ups from the weekend just gone, analysing the systems and personnel used by the 20 top-flight clubs and seeing what lessons could be learned ahead of Gameweek 7.

As was the case last week, we are harnessing the use of the average position maps in our Members’ Area and highlighting some of the key stats from each game.

The figures in brackets given after each player name in the article below correspond to the numbered shirts in the position maps.

Members can read on for further analysis, while those wishing to subscribe can still do so by clicking here â€“ memberships cost the equivalent of £2.19 a month for the remainder of 2019/20 and a video of the benefits can be accessed here.

It's more about fund allocation. Soyuncu and Tomori are terrific value. And Aubameyang has great fixtures. If he doesn't work, you can at least swap to a stronger attacker or move the funds to midfield.

Tierney I am sure emery wants in as soon as. Gave him the start in mid week soon after completing over an hour in an U23s game. Building up his fitness. Bellerin’s injury was a mad one. Emery doing the right thing and taking it slow with him and he can afford to do that as AMN is performing really well (apart from vs Villa in fairness). Chambers is impressing as his back up too. Bellerin will be first choice again eventually but it will take a long time I think maybe even a month. Tierney I predict will be there in a couple of weeks

Why is there no discussion about B.Silva, D.Silva and Mahrez? It seems to me like one way to combat Pep roulette is to go quantity over high price tag, e.g. with triple MCity mids of KDB + both Silvas so at least some of them play every week.

    Sterling + Dendoncker
    16.5M
    48points
    = 0.34M per point

    D.Silva + B.Silva
    15.3M
    69points
    = 0.22M per point

    Aguero + Cantwell
    17.2M
    79points
    = 0.21M per point

That comparison makes the Silvas look pretty darn good. Not sure if Son and Pepe as hyped as they are will be able to match that or even come close to it.

7-8M mids: Martial injured, Maddison possibly injured, Sigurdsson and Richarlison not delivering, Zaha not delivering, Fraser not delivering...Silvas blasting full steam but nobody talks about them...purely out of Pep roulette fear?

You make a decent point about the price point. Many would prefer having Ota, KDB, Sterling/Aguero though. I have Dilva over Sterling/Aguero currently so I could get Auba and exploit the gap in 7-8m mids and it’s worked well so far. Pep roulette has all the mentioned options safe this weekend except Bilva who played 90 the other day. One or even 2 of the 3 will always miss out is the issue. Just have to have the right ones at the right times. I am selling Dilva next week if not the one after

      1. Karhumies

I guess the other counterpoint is many people preferring a weak, non-playing bench rather than e.g. 3x 4.5 defenders and mids. Well, saving money on the Silvas allows a much stronger bench for sure.

    2. MTPockets
      6 years, 9 months ago

You could be right, just can't bring myself to sell Aguero and consider it while he keeps starting

There's a lot of RMTs with Ota/Zinch, KDB, Sterling/Kun asking if it's OK to drop Sterling/Kun for Auba/Son. My current opinion is that Auba/Son is OK to bring in, but dropping third MCity player to go down to 2 pool + 2 MCity is not OK, and you should either get third Pool (Mane/Firmino) or third City (Silva/Silva/Mahrez) while you're getting Auba/Son.

I settled on KDB and D.Silva for this reason, pretty unlikely they will both miss out in the same week - adding Bernardo probably isn't a terrible idea. I guess in my current team it's Haller vs Bernardo … I'm just hoping Haller sorts it out

I did this last season with Sterling, Sane and Mahrez, around late November, and only stuck with it until early January. Issues are:

A - None are captaincy options
      B - Takes up 3 midfield spots
C - To lead on from C, you have to be patient with this tactic, so if new midfield options emerge, you might miss out on successful bandwagons.

I would anticipate that many have Aguero OR Sterling as captain options, plus KdB and Otamendi. In that case you’re dropping a captain option to get one of the Silva’s.

Could work if you captain a Liverpool attacker when City are away and KdB when they’re at home.

If you are comfortable cptaining KDB, Salah/Mane, non city non pool great form forward (Auba, Abraham, Pukki), I don't see any issues with this.

    7. tafrère

You need one of Aguero/Sterling for captaincy, KDB is essential, and a 5.5m nailed City defender will get more points throughout the season than the Silvas and Mahrez.

You're overthinking. Some casuals with Bernardo + Dilva had an amazing GW6. But they won't have an amazing season. Period.

😉 but seriously there are other good captaincy options this week. I have neither sterling or Aguero for the last couple of weeks and have rocketed up the rankings

Aguero, Sterling, Salah and Mané are the most reliable captaincy options, and so you can chose the better fixture, I guess you need 2 of them. I know it hasn't worked well yet this year, but I think it'll settle up. But I don't mind people going for the Silvas or Mahrez instead, they'll all miss the big hauls and understand there's a reason we're paying 12m for some players. 😉

      Nice post +1

I don't think anyone knows including the City players who Pep will start as he likes to keep them on their toes.My own guess is that he will name an unchanged stating 11 for the next game but i could be wrong of course.

It would be great to know if Mahrez,D Silva and or B Silva were in for a run of games as it would be a no brainer to get em in but we all know that Pep roulette is a major headache for an fpl manager and could make you or break you.

The key is watching who he rests and subs off early/manages minutes of. As a result it means a line up of this for this weekend:

        Ederson
        Walker Fernandinho Otamendi Who Knows
        KDB Rodri Dilva
        Mahrez Aguero Sterling

One of the easiest predictions of the season so far

Wow that West ham result is crazy and with a lot of first team on by end. No shots for haller by the look of it? Time to suck up my mistake of preferring him over pukki on wildcard, kinda wanted to wait incase I wanted a reshuffle to 343 or 451 but doesn't feel like they're doing anything right attacking wise atm!

We are doing it right it’s just the new system when Haller has to create. Lack of direct runners in the team means Haller is the key link up man. He does his job well it just sends responsibility over to our wingers to do the scoring now. Anderson the best pick but still not a great one, we are a very unpredictable team.

So potentially not the best option after all - seemed to be playing more advanced vs Norwich etc now retreating back. Pukki is the opposite, miles ahead of everyone else - so feel like it's an inevitability even if the haller pick felt more hipster!

It was very liberating to sell just now myself for Abraham. Pukki is a must but if there was a time to go without you got lucky. May the goat continue to be fed x

The answer when we play badly in cup games is usually Carlos Sanchez. Same thing happened here. When you sell >10 good squad players and replace them with 3 first team players then you get yourself into a pickle for depth. That’s exactly what we did. Great first team, terrible squad depth

      Yer, my acca buster tonight.
I think Noble is very important to that team and a very understated player. He does so many things so well, especially breaking up the opposing teams attack. Busy little bulldog and a great Sheriff, should be getting more plaudits like Kante.
      Big miss when he's absent.

I think so for the next game at least but even so he is better 1st choice on bench than Lunds or Digne. It is more of a cash enabler at his price he can be 3rd sub.

Virgil down to Soyuncu to fund Lanzini upgrade? He’s number priority this week but nothing around the 6.5 mark to make it straight swap (already own amount).
Would have been Maddison but looks to be out for the weekend

Ritchie about to come back. I have Schär myself but I understand that is probably way more than anyone sensible would spend on Newcastle defence so look at Lascelles for some minor goal threat or Dummett for the BAPs

I've been reading what Lampard has said and Chelsea fans on the forums, they all rate him very highly and think/want him and Rudiger to be the starting defensive partnership.

Obviously still a question mark as to whether that is true, so probably makes Soyuncu a more sensible option. 4.5 Chelsea defender is appealing though

        1. MTPockets
          6 years, 9 months ago

Yeah that's what it comes down to. If there's a time to risk a 4.5m chelsea def it's now, but need a reasonable backup if wrong.

What would you do to this team so I don’t have to start Cantwell every week? 0.1 itb

    Pope (button)

    Digne TAA Ota (Lundstram Rico)

    Son KDB Mane CANTWELL (Hayden)

    Abraham Aguero Pukki

I’m thinking change Hayden to someone but who do I lose? And I want at least a mount-Martial option

Was thinking Digne Hayden to 4.0 Mount

    2. MTPockets
      6 years, 9 months ago

Could downgrade Digne but that still doesn't leave enough £ for Mount unless willing to risk another 4m def
It's a decent team really - Cantwell/Hayden is the price of having the rest

Guess you have to weigh up Cantwell/Digne or other prem def vs. Mount/Lundstram

Why not start him every week? Not much point in having more than 4.5m for benched mid. It's money you could better spend in your 11.

      1. Doctor Evil
        • 7 Years
        6 years, 9 months ago

I only paid 4.5m so I don’t mind him being on the bench. The dream would be to have martial when fit but think I would have to lose TAA for that and that’s not worth it.

just play him! he's a great enabler that allows you to have the rest of your team. The way he is playing I can see him easily outscoring anyone you could bring in.
