The Champions League returns this evening – and so does the world’s largest Fantasy tournament covering Europe’s footballing elite.

FanTeam‘s Champions League Fantasy tournament offers a guaranteed €100,000 prize pot, with the winner taking home €20,000.

Pay-outs extend all the way through the top 600, and there are plenty of weekly prizes on offer.

Latecomers to the game are in luck too.

FanTeam is currently offering a special bundle for new users, so late registrations will receive an additional Weekly Monster ticket worth €20.

That, in effect, means you’ll get €45 worth of value for just €25.

The advantages of joining now don’t end there either. Late registration opens up new in-game strategies, as managers can now optimise their picks across Gameweeks 2-6.

If you feel like trying out Daily Fantasy, but are not in the mood for an event that covers the entire group stage – tomorrow’s fixtures will also have two unique events to add even greater value, with FanTeam offering Early and Late games across three different buy-in options (1,10, 5,50 and 22,00) and excellent prize pools of up to 7.000€. Those can be found in the FanTeam Lobby.

FanTeam‘s Champions League event is very similar to Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

There’s the same 100m transfer budget, a 15-man squad and the standard three-player maximum from each team.

And the scoring system, with a few slight tweaks, is virtually identical, making it nice and easy to pick up and play.

Key differences only add to the experience.

Each Gameweek deadline is just ten seconds before the first kick-off, so there’s plenty of time to tweak your team after the teamsheets are announced.

And although you get two free transfers every Gameweek, you can roll them over to a maximum of four – if you’ve got the nerve and the patience.

FanTeam’s €100,000 Champions League Event runs for the six rounds of the tournament’s group stages, with €500 going to each Gameweek’s best manager and €1,000 up for grabs for the highest Gameweek score of the competition.

All that for an entry fee of just €25, with a maximum of 20 teams allowed per user.

Gameweek 2’s first matches kick off at 17.55 GMT this evening.

Here are some key players worth considering.

Aguero should start tonight’s Champions League match

In attack, Sergio Aguero (10.4m) could make hay at home to Dinamo Zagreb.

The Manchester City star was rested at the weekend, playing just 24 minutes of the 3-1 win at Everton.

So he should be very fresh to face a Zagreb side that are winless in their last 15 Champions League away matches (D2 L13), losing each of the last 12.

In midfield, Philippe Coutinho (9.0m) has the form to be the star of the show in one of Gameweek 2’s major encounters – Tottenham Hotspur v Bayern Munich.

The Brazilian has scored and assisted in back-to-back Bundesliga games and he’s always enjoyed facing Spurs, scoring three and setting up a further two in 12 appearances against the north Londoners.

At the back, Nacho (5.0m) should be a good value way into the Real Madrid defence.

He’s only in the team because of injuries to key assets on the left-hand side of Los Blancos’ backline, but he was superb in the weekend’s 0-0 draw at Atletico Madrid, both in defence and attack.

Zinedine Zidane’s side are finding some form since their disastrous 3-0 loss at PSG in Gameweek 1, and a home match against Club Brugge looks like a favourable fixture to continue that run.

There was some ambiguity to that. Ruled out today, yes. But they basically said they have no clue how long his recovery would take

    Bottomed. Repost:

Man City's attacking midfielder preference this season so far seems to be: KDB > Dilva > Bilva > Gundogan > Foden

With Rodrigo relatively nailed (but Gundogan can fill in) at DM, this means Pep can toy with combinations of the other four for two slots with KDB out, most likely Dilva and Gundo when he plays Bilva on the wings, or Dilva/Gundo and Bilva when he plays Mahrez at RW

I don't think 2 GWs of absence would make anybody other than Sterling more nailed, as KDB was among a plethora of CAM options already. This is unlike Laporte's absence making Ota more nailed or Sane's injury automatically giving Sterling more minutes

Furthermore, you'd need KDB out for a while for the effect on their minutes to actually show, as KDB's already been benched once and subbed off thrice this season... Showing Pep has a way of surviving without him on the pitch this season. If we're looking for a direct correlation, I think it makes Bilva more nailed as his versatility would serve him like Sterling's did last season. Problem there is Bilva's FPL output anywhere other than the LW, which is Sterling's home. Dilva should also be affected positively, but his age might limit minutes per week. Maybe more of Foden in UCL and Carabao?

    *sighs*

For what might be a short period (in FPL terms) of KDB's absence, the best way to know who's become more nailed might be hindsight. Please don't rush to conclusions... Except KDB's confirmed out for 3+ GWs, as EVERYBODY else would then certainly have more minutes than they would have had with KDB around

I've only read the first paragraph but Bilva is playing left wing so really he's competing with Mahrez and Sterling, not those mentioned above

I actually do not like the fact that I predicted this, especially as a KDB owner. Recovery from a year of injuries is rough. I'm amazed by how Kane did it. KDB and Kante are feeling it more... Kante suffering the most, I think

Well, its not like he is guaranteed to score every home game, so that limits his chances for points. But you could say the same for away games, he cant go the whole season without producing anything away from home, or can he? Options as Wilson, Tammy, Vardy etc are also doing well too.

    A: Taa + Mount/Yarma + Kane

    What do you think of:
    Pope
    TAA, Lund, Rico, Guilbert, Kelly
    Sterling, Salah, KDB, Mount, Cantwell
    Pukki, Auba, Fodder

Playing 442. Lund, Rico and Guilbert all have attacking returns. I just don't know where my clean sheets come from....

    1. mazkills
      • 8 Years
      6 years, 9 months ago

Deadly attacking...you are right, the defense is a bit weak.

I'd keep what you are doing, and keep a pulse (as we all are) on KDB. If he is injured for weeks, you can easily KDB > and upgrade a defender. Depending on the extent of the KDB downgrade should it happen, would open the door for Fodder > 3rd striker

I'm trying to bring in the Auba/Kane. I'd be happy with 442 if I had a better 2nd def. Maybe a Leicester or Brighton. KDB would make the moves very simple though.

For me it seems quite likely that this KDB injury is just a convenient way for City to let him get out of the Belgium games. Martinez is a bit of a twat and has a long history of not caring about injury management when players come to him for international duty. He played KDB for 90 minutes twice in the last break in meaningless situations even as he has been struggling with injury the last few years, and has the same history of playing Hazard for full games even as Conte was managing his minutes a lot to shield him from injury.

Now KDB can drop out of the Wolves game and have a nice excuse to sit out the IB as well. Probably back after that.

      1. Brosstan
        • 11 Years
        6 years, 9 months ago

Small groin injury is probably true and he was taken off precautionary but they could very well be overselling it now to make the most of the situation.

    3. sunzip14
      • 9 Years

But can injuries be faked like that? Players can pick and choose when to play and not so easily? What are medical teams there for?

    4. jtreble
      • 9 Years
      6 years, 9 months ago

Doubtful. All medicals need to be signed off by a physician - there are obvious legal implications in falsifying a report.

      1. Brosstan
        • 11 Years
        6 years, 9 months ago

They dont have to falsify anything, just oversell it so he can drop out of international duty. Also if what you say is true how does that explain all the BS international injuries that happen every single IB? Like AWB last break who was obviously not injured.

        1. Ze_Austin

          There's a clause to this

The player has the final say over his fitness. All I have to say is that I have pain in my thigh, and that's all... No matter what a doctor's examination and tests show. This rule is to protect players' rights, of course, but it does lead to some freedom of choice in priorities πŸ˜€

Players don’t need to feign injury: FNR (Fatigued Needs Rest) is used all the time.

Not sure what you are on about. There are teams every IB who make up or exaggerate injuries so their players dont have to participate on international duty. Im not sure how they do it technically with medical reports but it clearly happens.

As much as I'd like to believe this, I think the timeline of events makes it seem more likely to be a real injury:

      - KDB's groin issues last season
      - KDB subbed off thrice and benched once in EPL already this season to prevent injury
      - KDB subbed off looking uncomfortable and clutching at the muscle in a way
      - KDB saying he felt fine in a postmatch interview (coach would have told him to say otherwise if he wanted him rested)
      - City releasing a statement after running scans, yet choosing not to rule him out of the Wolves game (they easily could have, even as a precaution)

Arsenal had a nice run of defensive fixtures last season and people bought Kolasinac

It is a trap. It has been a trap since Unai was appointed. It will remain a trap, like Bournemouth's defence, simply because of Unai's tactics

Arsenal is the type of team to scrape two clean sheets from a run of eight easy games... At a more expensive price than some routes to Burnley, Leicester and Chelsea defences

    Need your opinions.

Who to play and who to bench?

    Otomendi or Lundstram

Potential GW9 IB WC team. Hinges on KDB being fit by then. If not, would shuffle some funds around and mayyy be able to keep Salah. 352 or 442 most weeks. Little bit left ITB afterwards

    Pope 4.0
    TAA Soyuncu Tomori Lundstram Rico
    Sterling KDB Son Mount Cantwell
    Auba Vardy Greenwood

Changes from current team (which is linked, with planned Barnes to Abraham likely this week):
    Digne to Soyuncu
    Otamendi to Tomori
    Salah to Son
    Pukki to Auba
Barnes* to Vardy (or if Abraham does well this week I may keep him instead) πŸ™‚

I think it will be a mute point if Pukki scores big πŸ˜›

Yeah that's fair. Really annoying that Auba keeps returning points - my bro has him and keeps edging the lead over me because none of my puntier/uniquer options are firing whereas his (like Ake, Auba) are

Which 4 will gain most points?
    A) KDB, Cantwell, Lascalles and Gilbert
    Or
    B) Mcginn, Maddison, Robbo and Soyuncu

Asked previously and a mixed response, after this GW what do you prefer:

    1) Vardy + Mount

    2) Pukki + Son
