One of today’s two Premier League matches has been called off.

Manchester City announced this morning that their meeting with West Ham United wouldn’t go ahead “due to extreme and escalating weather conditions and in the interests of supporter and staff safety.”

A date for the postponed match has yet to be announced (it remains to be seen if the winter break could still accommodate this clash) but City are facing a real backlog of fixtures, with Pep Guardiola’s troops also blanking in Gameweek 28.

Progression to the FA Cup quarter-finals (or Chelsea’s) would also force their Gameweek 31 meeting with Frank Lampard’s side to be rearranged.

City’s Gameweek 34 clash against Newcastle United would be postponed if either team made it through to the FA Cup semi-finals, although the free midweek afterwards would accommodate one of their outstanding games.

As it stands, the other Premier League match scheduled for today – Sheffield United v Bournemouth – remains on.

The Blades’ fan services account tweeted this update earlier on:

Weather is fine here. Slight drops of rain, trees aren't moving and shouldn't be too hard to knock the ball about. Considering city play at 4.30 it's a weird one

The weather forecast said this storm is 1000 miles wide and that at some points there may be a break in the storm in some parts of the country. But it has by no means finished hitting the country yet

If Maguire & Dendoncker play I have 11 players

With Aguero & KdB (vc) in my team and Salah (c) I'm not sure if this is good or bad for me overall wise in the full scheme of things, am currently around 13k in the world

Not convinced they will reschedule into this gw personally, players might have schedules, plans etc to keep, police reorganisation etc

Harry maguire? Is he a doubt?
If you have kun and kdb, the cancelled game is def a massive loss for you.
Maybe if you only had one city, its not so bad and have a good vc in place.

I think there's a decent chance Man City vs West Ham moves to this midweek or next weekend (and stays within GW26)

Man City really can't afford to have a second postponed fixture with a strong chance of two more postponements due to the FA Cup.

West Ham are obeying the winter break and will not reschedule within these two weeks.

The FA asked them to respect the winterbreak at the start of the season and that is what they will do.

If I was west ham I would not want to play in the winter break either. It has no benefit to them to play city now.

If the fixtures are congested going forwards it's the fa fault, i'd be quite pleased playing later as city likely to play a completely different team

It's not just the game, it's the training beforehand. West Ham have presumably been training this week, and would now have to train for next week, so they wouldn't get an extended break of any kind.

Bournemouth to be leading 0-1 thanks to a Dan Gosling wonder strike, which cannons off the back of Henderson leading to an OG.

Lundstram then comes on to save the game at 70 mins, before getting a red card for a reckless challenge inside the penalty box.

Penalty is scored and Bournemouth win 0-2 FT.
