Using the ‘per 90’ tool to assess FPL midfielders with the best assist potential

Our series of articles focusing on the new “per 90 minutes” addition to the Members Area has already assessed the standout defenders for key passes and goal threat.

Attentions now turn to the middle of the park as we take a look at the most creative midfielders in the opening 29 Gameweeks of Fantasy Premier League.

It should be noted that in order to qualify for our per 90 table, each player must have made at least 10 appearances this term.

Bottom left should be a picture of a desktop - I think you've clicked it by mistake which put it into desktop view, clicking it again (it will probably now look like a mobile) will put the display back to normal.

In my opinion, FPL have been explicitly clear in their statement that GW38 will be no different to GW30-37

"Given each fixture in these Gameweeks [inclusive of GW38] has been postponed, all players WILL earn zero points"

So, GW39 etc is a given if FPL returns to finish 2019/20.
      Don’t waste your BB, imo.

After careful consideration I agree with this. If FPL is to return they’ll surely have to add more game weeks. The chances of them going back on their statement and adding an enormous amount of fixtures into a game week AFTER the deadline has passed seems unlikely.

It may be the case that this happens but I don't really think you can say it's a given. They can quite easily just decide to throw the games in as part of GW38 regardless of what the statement says. They could well be referring to how things currently stand.

Let’s not forget the whole mega GW38 thing is something thought up by managers on sites like this. FPL has made no suggestion of it at all. It would be hugely controversial for them to put the fixtures in after the deadline has passed (let alone already stating that in GW38 players will all score 0) . Especially with no update. My small hope is that we actually get some sort of update from them pre deadline, but it seems unlikely.

The thing with the whole mega GW38 thing though is that something similar to that has happened before (albeit on a much smaller scale). They have never added GWs before. So if we were to look at this in a complete vacuum it would be the mega GW38 that makes sense.

That's not to say one will happen over the other though, just that anything that has ever happened before only points towards a mega GW.

Mega GW makes zero sense from a site traffic and maximising revenue point of view. Sponsors are hardly going to like that option!

T's and C's give organisers plenty scope to decide an appropriate course of action (see below), once it is announced how the PL intend to play things out. I doubt FPL will make an announcement til after that, as doing so would undermine PL position in what is an extremely delicate situation.

              "The Game Rules

              14. The Game will be governed by the Game Rules (as amended from time to time) published on the Site (and accessible via the App) by the Premier League ("Game Rules").

Are you referring to the postponed Utd game being “added” in to a Gameweek? Because I think that was a totally different situation and not comparable. That game was already in the game week and because it was the final game week it was an easy solution for them and the Prem. If that had happened in the middle of the season it would have gone into a different game week unless scheduled immediately after.

Personally I think the most likely scenario of all is that FPL will simply end after a blank GW38.

Yeah I reckon there is a good chance of it just ending. If I could on it bet I'd go with that.

In terms of the Man Utd situation it's not the same as the current situation but it's the closest example we have.

They have explicitly stated GW38 is a blank, exactly the same as GW30-37. The only question is what happens next.

I happen to think GW39 etc is the most likely scenario IF football returns - potentially with an immediate WC.

Alternatives are to start a new stand alone mini-game for the rest of the season, which would only make sense if there is a programming issue.

Or scrap it and finish everything as it stands at GW38.

Lastly, forced FPL abandonment because the season is abandoned.

Aye, but I'm not questioning the wording of the statement, just the use of saying it's a given. They could literally straight up tell us there is going to be a GW39 but that doesn't mean it will happen. It's an unprecedented situation so nothing is guarenteed.

Of course nothing is guaranteed - I agree, it's an extremely complex situation and full abandonment of the remaining fixtures is very possible.
But I think it is beyond questionable at this stage that a mega GW38 is on the table - and that only those willing to gamble their BB's on will benefit!

I'm probably just being overly pedantic over your use of "it's a given". I definitely agree that the wording as it is tells us there will be no games in GW38.

Though the part of the rules you quoted above does tell us they can change their mind as and when they want.

Fair enough 🙂 I expect the solution will be one which keeps most of us managers reasonably happy, but keeps FPL and their sponsors as happy as possible -- unless there are programming limitations, or the season is abandoned.

It's ok you think that but surely in your head you can't have convinced yourself it's a given ? There are no givens. It could happen sure, but saying it is a given sounds like you have convinced yourself to me. Poor choice of wording maybe ?

I've clarified that bit here (below). I do think it's a given there are no fixtures in GW38. The FPL statement is clear. Of course I'd still hold off making any GW38 transfers etc til close to the deadline in case a new statement is made and things change. There's no benefit to making decisions earlier anyway. Until then, we just have to take them at their word.

Yep it is explicitly saying that but it is quite possible they mean for that particular gameweek 38 it is a zero as it stands but they come out and say now we have new fixtures we are still in gw38 technically ( there is no real end date for 38) so they open it up for the mega one.

Their lack of updates may suggest they don't know themselves yet. I think it leaves them open to anything. Even ending the game at gw38 and declaring it a dud so they can concentrate on next season. Wonder what odds you would get on each option.

I respectfully disagree and think that outcome would be both nonsensical and cause great displeasure from both FPL managers and sponsors etc. Plus as I've highlighted, they've already stated GW38 is a zero pointer.

I think their lack of a further update is understandable to a degree. FPL is a cog of the Premier League. Their updates so far are consistent with PL current standpoint. They will need to be careful not to undermine PL, or jump the gun with any announcement. I'd be utterly gobsmacked if they didn't have a strategy or even multiple strategies in place for how things may play out.

I have to say I agree with this opinion. To clarify in relation to the first post - I think playing the bench boost chip would be an incredible gamble. For it to come off you need FPL to back track on their statement, add all remaining fixtures into one game week and announce all of this after the deadline has already passed (meaning most won't be able to change their team for the return of the Premier league). It all just feels so unlikely and so risky.

When I say most I actually mean all, all managers won't be able to do anything to their teams if they go for a mega GW38 after the deadline has passed.

The gambler in me is still wanting me to play the BB. If I do, and I’m right, it gains me what, about 170 points? If I’m wrong, I lose 20 or so. Gotta say I like those odds.

Looks good, Virg, but Wolves' attack is too good not to include, in my opinion. I'd probably rather have Traore than Zaha, and Jimenez than Vardy. I'm sure it's tempting to spend all your budget on a free hit, but there might be better, cheaper options.

Forgot he'll also have another 2 weeks of quarantine to go through on top of the late return. Might be worth considering, depending on when (if) football returns

Looks good. Only quibbles would be that Alonso doesn't appeal to me that much and 442s never sit easy with me.

Alonso + Cantwell to Lascelles + someone like Mount / Barnes would free cash up and allow a formation change, but comes down to how much you like Alonso!

Far too many full backs. You need centre halves asap to protect from extreme rotation.

So several teams opposing the use of neutral grounds to finish the season. Why are they making an already difficult situation worse by opposing it?

I would like to ask those clubs, what if this was the only way to finish the season. Bit silly if you ask me. Surely if it came to it's either play the remaining games on neutral grounds or abandon it completely they wouldn't oppose it.

Why are some clubs making an already difficult situation worse by opposing the nullification of the 19/20 season?

I would like to ask that club how can you start the season with one set of rules and finish it with another with any credibility?

I imagine the vote on project restart is a tough call for a few clubs. By voting against it some may inadvertently be condemning themselves to relegation (Norwich, Villa, Bournemouth or West Ham if you think a ppg method could be used?). Only a void or no relegation would save clubs like that. I wonder how much info they’re actually getting around what the alternative is to not restarting.

I really think that it shouldn't be put to a vote by clubs and someone like the FA chairman should man up and make a decisions one way or the other for better or worse. At least this way there would be a head to be axed when/if it goes wrong.

It seems to me nobody wants to grasp this hot potato as in the government,FA,clubs all passing the buck around only having talking shops where kites are flown but little of the way of leadership and making the tough decisions that have to be done.

If anyone was to be voting on this well then it should be the players and staff who are going to be the ones putting the health of themselves and their family's at risk and not the clubs who mightn't have those factors at the forefront of their decisions.

It would not sit well with me at all if the players were forced to participate in this circus against their will.

I suppose so,the clubs have a responsibility to their owners/share holders that they might put before the welfare of their players and staff.

Put not your trust in princes, bureaucrats or generals, they will plead expedience while spilling your blood from a safe distance.

In normal circumstances once the game week 38 deadline passes you lose them, just like any other game week. I guess if they added more game weeks your carried over transfer should carry.

In V-FPL just played 2 Spurs away games-

Do you mean after next Sunday? If so yes, likely no more (unless more game weeks are added). Currently there’s one game week deadline left so just one more opportunity to make transfers.

Just done a sim game with Chelsea at home in vfpl and was lucky enough to draw Watford who they are playing this gw.

the score was 3-0 to Chelsea with Alonso scoring 2 goals and being the player with the most attacking involvements,Jorginho got the othewr goal with assists coming from Azpi and Pulsic.

*moves armband from Rashford to Alonso.

Rag if you're around, a question about the cup. Is it a standard knockout bracket, and if so how did you get the exact number of teams? Wouldn't you need a power of 2?

Yes, standard knockout. Some teams are seeded to round 2 directly, and that solves the power of two thing.
