The FPL players who could change position in 2020/21

The relaunch of Fantasy Premier League for 2020/21 will see the usual price swings for various players based on last season’s performances but will also feature positional reclassifications for a handful of them.

In this article, we’ll outline the case for a change of position for a number of Fantasy assets.

Ten players were reclassified at the beginning of last season, including Diogo Jota, Ayoze Perez and Matt Ritchie.

It’s fair to say that the alterations could be more seismic this summer, with a few premium assets potentially moving from midfielder to forward or vice-versa.

Before we begin, we should stress that this is purely guesswork on our part and is based on how FPL have gone about classifying players previously.

It could be, for example, that they have other ideas on how they will group ‘wide-midfielders’ next season – although, given the short turnaround, a complete overhaul of the game perhaps looks unlikely.

As a very rough guide, FPL have previously classified players using the following criteria:

DefendersCentre-backs, full-backs, wing-backs (eg in a 3-4-3/3-5-2)
MidfieldersCentral/defensive midfielders, number tens, wingers/wide-midfielders, players on either flank of a front three
ForwardsLone strikers, strikers who play in a two-man attack, the central striker in a three-man frontline

The classifications are typically based on what each player in question has done in the previous season.

Marcus Rashford and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, for example, had spent most of their time centrally in 2018/19, hence their listings as forwards at the start of the campaign just gone.

There is the occasional high-profile error (more of which below), of course, but these tend to be either academy products or fringe players from promoted clubs who were perhaps not given as much attention at the launch stage.

So which new player do you still hope to see in the PL? I know many will say Sancho but at a record fee and crazy stats he will probably be listed ad a ridiculous 11.0 if he had to join UTD. Hardly anynoe will be able to fit him.

The player I am hoping to see is Havertz.

No chance. Must be 8m min after the season he had. Anything 9 or under and he is in my team.

Lol no chance, Pulisic was 7.5m after 4G and 4A.

Havertz this season 12G and 6A.

I'm slightly biased but Havertz. That kid is a serious talent already. Like Kdb but has a great finish on him too.

Not an Arsenal fan by any means but my god the Chelsea fans on here are being very salty today, there was one bad decision which was the second yellow which can happen, be upset about that sure but don't act like it's the worst ref performance of all time

I am an Arsenal fan, and to be fair some Chelsea fans here have class, but of course it's the ones that don't that get noticed more.

Totally agree with the refereeing - I did say before that the only clear mistake was the second yellow on Kovacic.

Arsenal deserved to win. I'm not terribly upset or concerned about the fact Chelsea lost.

I'm just getting tired of the FA & Premier League officiating. That's across the whole season.

What's a bit aggregating is that the BBC has shown Martinez as being in the box when a different frame, he is clearly outside (
      https://i.redd.it/10vy0cidtfe51.jpg)

Given, it is not as big of balls-up as the Nyland 'save' in the Villa - Sheffield United match.

Slow it down, the picture you're showing there's 0 way of knowing if he's touching the ball at that moment, the only clear touch is when he's in the box, as you can see from the video. So not quite the catastrophic mistake you're making out

I think it's the same with a lot of teams. You have good sensible football loving fans and some idiots.

His attacking output has reduced this season funnily. More CS so 33 points extra.

Boly even at 5.5 may be the one to be on

Was sceptical but the cs record with and without him is night and day. On a 100m budget that extra 1 mill goes a long way

All the other defenders get the CS when he is on the pitch so it's irrelevant to pick him because their defence is getting a lot better with him on the pitch.

This. Even Saiss was a better deal than Boly - still got the clean sheet, and was more attacking. Boly of course is the key in real life, but in fantasy everyone else (other than Coady) seem to be better options.

It would be a week 1 budget play initially. I'm not convinced cs will follow at Wolves. Boly at 5.5 still offers good value I suspect if cs happen.

Doherty without cs is a bit average.

I'll be very surprised if he's not 6.5. He started the season at 6.0 and finished at 6.5 - scored considerably more points than the season before, and the defence was better in terms of clean sheets. 6.0 would be a bargain. 6.5 would be reasonable.

I'm looking at Laporte as someone who might just sneak in as the value premium.

Again the City cs record with him was great and having missed so much he might be priced kindly. Attacking returns possibly a tad below Vvd but not by a distance. You'd just need a 4.5 on standby

City have tended to go on cs runs over the last 2 seasons. Once they put a couple in then more seem to follow. A form defence perhaps. There's certainly been spells this season and last when they were a miss. Mostly at the start

      (xAttPts = 6xG+3xA)

Those 6pt goals are a huge bonus over the 3pt assists.

Wolves have elite defensive numbers too. As long as he has a decent fixtures and a respectable price, he's in for me.

The research is certainly there to back it up. I’m loyal to that at a fault: 4-5 premiums for me typically.

Last season was terrible for premiums imo. It was a strange season. Pool started off not being able to keep a cleanie, Laporte injured, and Doherty didn’t turn it on until late in the season.

Sheff Utd defenders killed me this season. Didn’t think they’d sustain such great returns

Henderson was a big factor for Sheffield United. Without him, their defence goes from an elite one, to a good one.

Very impressive shot stopping numbers from him. Only Lloris and Martinez had a better xGP/app.

Klich from Leeds is on my radar as well as their defence

He could be a McGinn - possibly useful player for balancing midfield. Leeds are a team that score goals and he's got a very handy record of popping up with goals over the last 2 seasons.

      Right price and fixtures needed.

I'm also interested in Klich - especially because, having scored more goals and made more assists in 18/19 than 19/20 (10 goals 9 assists vs 6 and 5), this season's decrease in output suggests he may be priced a bit lower than he should be (5.0 rather than 5.5). I think one Leeds fan told me he's on pens too?

3 finals that i can remember off the top of my head, but no cigar unfortunately - i'm still recovering from the CL final against Barca when we were 1-0 up with 12 mins to go, and Lehmann sent off early in first half, the stress in that game was unbearable, having a lead but being down to 10 against Barca on a big pitch that suited them, it was inevitable but we were 1-0 up and it's the hope that kills you!

It was Bellerin that made that 2nd goal, not Ceballos as I initially thought. Nice run from deep, drifting through the invisible Chelsea midfield, creating a 3v2 for Aubameyang to finish off.

I love Jorghino and Kovacic when they're on the ball against weaker sides, but defensively not good enough for this type of big game. Kante would have helped, but Frank said he wasn't fit enough.

It's one of the things Frank needs to work on. Too often opposition players can move 10, 20 30 yards through the middle of the pitch and not face a tackle. We need a ball winner to help out, not just a ball player in that position. Kova is more a box to box. He's great at turning and driving at the opposition. Kante is perfect but Lampard wants to use his athleticism for the press so he's often much higher up.

It's not as easy as to buy a couple of defenders and make us better. The defense needs support. Arteta is an example. Help protect that defense then you can let your attackers do what they do best.

I see this and think, okay potentially his left hand could be glancing/touching the ball while outside the box but it's way more likely his right hand is the first touch when the ball is in the box so correct decision right?

Wrong. Either way, it's a close call. I'm not sure why you've disregarded my comment above though.

      https://i.redd.it/10vy0cidtfe51.jpg

Compare the two freeze frames. Zouma's leg & Martinez' arms & legs (and the ball) are in slightly different positions.

In one frame he's handinlibg inside the box & in one frame he's handling outside the box.

He handled it outside the box but as it was so quick and he dragged it back very quickly, nothing has been done.

I didn't disregard anything, you're just being very arrogant saying "wrong" when it's really not clear at all

Again your picture isn't proving a touch, it's literally impossible to tell. Why rely on a fuzzy picture when there's a clear video that shows its not a clear touch, if indeed there was one. Very strange

i'm considering playing the BB in a single GW and quite early in the season too, maybe GW1 as opposed to a DGW. BB is a difficult chip to play and the occasions I have played it in a DGW it hasn't yielded over 20pts. The benefits to playing it early is that you don't compromise your wildcard later in the season to accommodate a BB chip.

my GW is structured for at least 8 gameweeks, i probably wouldn't wildcard before that. In all the seasons BB has been around. my bench had more points in a single game week than a BB in DGW.

There is a possible week 2 scenario where the rest of the world goes WC when City and United get a DGW and you go BB. Fixtures and GW1 blanks would need to fall kindly of course.

Look at Palace for one 🙂

If United do go a long way in Europa and then get an early DGW with even less preseason and rest than others - doubt I'd want more than one anyway in a DGW. City are tricky anyway of course was you're likely selecting SGW players

          All very theoretical

I went BB in a SGW and got 20 points, I wouldn't do it in week 1 though, how can you be sure who will play? Wait until you have fought fires and got a reasonable 15 and then play it.

If we get early DGWs, probably FH is a better choice, or just set up for it at the start.

I do kinda feel the same. more to just get BB outta the way than anything. Find it more a hindrance than help having to have 15 guaranteed starters. I'd rather have a only 2 starters and 2 cheapies on the bench for most of the season. Playing it early means I can focus on strong 11 for majority of the season and not have to rip the team apart when a dgw turns up, which enivitably turns out to be a let down as the top teams will most likely rest, rotate or manage minutes then

What influences your GW 1 team? (Besides player prices)

I feel I always get off to a poor start. I typically pick the players I want for the season, regardless of poor opening fixtures. I don’t only pick players with favorable short-tearm fixtures as I don’t want be be forced into an early WC.

What goes into your thinking for a strong start?

Usually look at first 2 fixtures and go heavy on the optimal players for those, with a view to making moves quickly on the form players. Usually WC early.

Guess this year if City/United aren't involved in GW1/2 then an early wildcard will be mostly used for that.

Europa League qualifying is kind of a joke, though. Wolves only had to beat Crusaders (6-1 over two legs), Pyunik (8-0), and Torino (5-3; currently 16th in Serie A) to get through. Spurs could do that with a heavily rotated team.

Until Greenwood came along at 5,0 he was the best value attacker in the game. But this season Palace may actually buy a forward, We've been trying and failing for 4 windows now. That would relegate him to 4-5 goals a season likely

Truth is though that Palace goals output is likely to decline again. Small slice of small pie, The counterattacking game is more counter than attack nowadays

Once the game has been relaunched. you will be able to check the current ownership of all players in teams already entered.
Just go to FPL's Statistics tab and sort by 'Teams selected by %'.
But that's the template for all FPL players, will initially be heavily influenced by average price players in teams selected by Auto Pick, and may contain a few duff picks.
The template for FFS users or for other experienced players is likely to be slightly different.

It will be very good for us if FPL towers release the game early even the fixtures are not ready yet.

We can do some math to know who have the most value.

Can take time to consider going 2 or 3 big hitters too. 4 is too much imho.

I consider who can be captain as 'big hitters'.

Apart from the newly promoted teams, are there any first choice goalkeepers that could be priced at $4.5m?
It's hard to make a case for any of them, as most have had 100+ point seasons......perhaps Fabianski or Heaton/Reina, who were both affected by injury? Surely they won't risk pricing Martinez at $4.5

Indeed. Ryan was quietly effective at 4.5 and I can see him being the same again. McCarthy will prob also be 4.5 and a decent choice. And Guaita. So that's probably 7 starting keepers at 4.5:

        Guaita
        Ryan
        McCarthy
        Villa's
        Leeds'
        WBA's

Small chance Guaita comes in 5.0 imo

There was the dip from GW30 on but his record this season and last puts him in as a pretty clear 5.0 surely

Rumours of a return to Spain are resurfacing. No way Palace will want to sell and It’s perhaps unlikely enough money will be offered. But if he went a replacement 4.5 could be a decent deal. You’d be buying a RH defence keeper. Guaita got proportionally the same saves in as Pope largely down to the system last season

Add in extra minutes and adjust for pens and the distance between Pope and Guaita shrinks to cs count. I can see that being closer next season IF both defences were full strength - 12 apiece being par perhaps

Well he could, but I'd shy away. Not because of him but Palace seem to be degenerating with lack of investment every year. Roy got more out of them than I expected this year, but I can't see it lasting. Conversely, I can see Saints and maybe Brighton being stronger at the back and I'd look at their keepers before Palace.

Yeh, Guaita's a good keeper; the issue is IF Palace invest in the squad. It's not looking likely. They could use Zaha money but he's had a poor season and won't get the fee they want. And there's not enough time, in my book. I'm tipping them to go down.

I think Guaita at 5 and Fabianski at 4.5, primarily because Palace have a comfortably superior clean sheet and goals-conceded record to West Ham, and Fab's PPG is lower than Guaita's

Rumours of Chelsea wanting Nick Pope. Like rumours of Jimenez to United, great for the club, but disastrous for FPL.
Much of Pope's heroics are due to being part of a superbly-drilled defence set up by Dyche. Take him out and stick him behind an undisciplined Chelsea defence and his value to us plummets.

Now with Wolves not being in Europe, if Jimi stays he starts (and plays 90 mins of) every PL game - not so if he's at United.

Based on the observation from David the people with good seasons get a rise beyond their end price of last season, he will be 5.5 if he stays at Burnley. He should be the same at Chelsea if he moves.

Would be a strange situation where Burnley go from 3 England international goalkeepers vying for the gloves a year ago to none, just an untested kid. I fear that would screw up everything Dyche has worked to achieve at Burnley. He'd either quit or see it as getting a fee for Pope that would enable him to do all the rebuilding he's asked for.

I've inked Pope into my draft squad and pencilled in a defender and Wood. If Pope goes I'll have to scratch all of them.

    2. FOO FIGHTER
      1 day, 20 hours ago

Wouldn't be out of the question of Pope to Chelsea when they want more than a century for Oblak. That much money for a GK is crazy and not very affordable with wages, bonuses, agent fees and whatever other fees on top of the transfer fee.

Looking at Pool defence - both VVD & Robbo regressed by 30 points versus last year’s scores

Could we get lucky with a slight drop for each?

Surely they at least can’t give either of them a rise from this season’s starting prices (6.5 & 7.0)

Imagine they came in at 6.0 VVD & 6.5 Robbo

Five at the back will suddenly become all the rage for GW1 again with TAA (7.5?), Laporte (6.0?) & Doherty (6.5?) plus those two 😉

    1. Andy_Social
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

Can't see them dropping - holding steady while TAA edges up 0.5 I reckon. But 5 of them would still be over the top for me; I haven't shifted from TAA, VVD, Robbo and a pair of benchmonkeys. Too much value in midfield to spend more at the back. I mean, you wouldn't turn your back on KDB and Bruno, would you?

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
        • 10 Years
        1 day, 20 hours ago

You’d still have loads for two big captaincy hitters - I started last season with the below for example:

        Pope,
        TAA, Robbo, Laporte, Digne, Coleman
        Salah, Sterling, Perez
        Vardy, Ings

        Thinking a similar setup but

VVD, Doherty in the “Digne Coleman“ slots
Bruno, KDB in the “Salah, Sterling“ slots (captaincy sorted)
Ings is now effectively the “Vardy“ slot

Find two 5.5-6.5 options, (Can be forwards and/or mids) for the “Perez & Ings” slots

What you miss out on is the likes of Salah, Sterling, Son, Auba, Rashford etc - who probably can’t really be captained anyways with Bruno & KDB there

        1. Bring back Rafa
          1 day, 20 hours ago

I'm going for Sterling over KDB if priced cheaper. Both would be ideal, but probably not realistic with a $100m budget

Heh, I started with Pickford and 2 Toffee defenders - cashed in for 2 weeks before it went pear-shaped. But what you're suggesting is very much what I have in mind. The difference would be my back line would be cheaper to go for one more premium midfielder (might be Greenwood).

5 at the back never lasts though does it. Is it because it takes a while for value to emerge / reveal itself in the midfield / fwd lineups? Or is it because team values are only at 100 at the start of the season?

The regression in points was mostly due to the injury to Alisson right?

Along with squad depth, thats also a big question mark over them

But to be honest I’d say Klopp & Henderson will set the right tone with them in preparations etc

In fact I think this very fact is going to be lost on a lot of people and there will be very few double-ups. My only concern is Liverpool's motivation.

Also we need to think about the likelihood of team absences at the beginning of the season due to CL delays.

I'm looking at a 3-5-2/4-5-1 option with someone like Che Adams alternating with a 4.5 defender fixturewise. But it is looking like you'd splurge the bulk of your budget on a strong midfield and minimise your striker expenditure.

If you can find the odd outlier like Dunk, he'll do for mainly bench duty when Liverpool rest a defender (I'll be keeping an eye out for a Leeds equivalent of a Blade). Not great loss if none emerge. Like others are pointing out, if we discount another injury to Alisson (you can't legislate for bad luck like that), depending on those 3 Reds defenders is as secure as it gets.

If you do decide to go double/triple LIv defence then you're going to have to artificially set aside that horrible sinking feeling when the Pool oppo score and think of the total scores at the end of the season.

Funnily enough I have just spent a few stupid moments looking at a TAA/VVD/Robbo defence with another useful back-up - I chose Dunk. Even with two 4.0 duds It's going to be very difficult to accommodate KDB/Bruno/Sterling/Auba and the other super-picks. Compromise will be the order of the day, as always.

Yeh you can't have 'em all. For me the 3 defenders, Bruno, Kev and one other premium will do. Add Greenwood and maybe Ings and I think I'm good.

Lundstram was a massive factor last year - an anomaly like that doesn’t happen often!

Maybe a cheapie/4.0 at Palace left back while PVA is dead?

Also there could be some 4.0’s unlocked after the price release given the transfer window rumbles on for so long now (October!)

The last forward to get over 230 was 2018/9 iirc 😉

Posted this a lot a year ago. A switch from Kane to Kun when Kane got injured and Kun felt a natural replacement matched Sterling overs the season that time. One move.

I actually did better as I got Vardy late season ditching Kun on WC. Two moves.

Not disputing poor value in premiums up top season long. But excess of theory last time would have precluded you jumping on Vardy at 9.5. As it happened many were late on him not least because they were heavy in midfield.

Don’t even want to get into “hopping on & hopping off” to generate 230+ scenarios - it’s a different thing altogether

I don’t think we’ve actually had an individual 230+ forward in years maybe?

                One move Max one move

It was one move to Vardy this time - all you had to do was not keep him when he started missing - not that hard a call as his attraction was that he was on a roll. He wasn't hauling he just kept scoring

Yep - one move can get you the OR#1 rank when it’s the right move

But back to the original point - to have zero strikers hitting 230/240+ points (someone will have the exact breakdown/deterioration over he years I’m sure) says it all really

No big deal for cheaper strikers, if anything it allows the likes of Jimmy & Ings to thrive

Werner is intruiging though & Kane if he kept going on the same trajectory plus Vardy if he doesn’t have any more kids, missed pens or consecutive injury niggles 😉

Look at the matches 1-20 in 2018/9

Sterling Auba Kane all within 2/3 points of each other. That Sterling was the only one who sustained form over 38 matches was the difference. It wasn't that Sterling had a poor first half and a great second.

Look at Vardy this season gone. 9.5 for sure but even at 11 he would have been matching/outperforming all mids.

For bursts of form I'd hate to be locked into a situation I couldn't easily get money up top.

You’re always missing the front end of that form by definition though is the problem and you’re stuck with the back end , and you’re burning transfers, and, and, and etc

I think the striker landscape is (Generally) evolvoing away from premiums & towards mid-price & cheapies

There are always exceptions of course, but generally better to plan for the rule, not the exceptions

Werner is intruiging though & It’s such a shame Kun got injured in GW30 (as captain grrrrrrrr) as with that fixture run he’d have done serious damage....Kane if he kept going on the same trajectory plus Vardy if he doesn’t have any more kids, missed pens or consecutive injury niggles

Last pre-season there was big noise about playing the fixtures between Kane and Auba. Never monitored it myself as it seemed daft but I bet it was a disaster. You just can't anticipate getting your timing perfect.

I did it around Christmas 18/19 - a better run of juicy blue fixtures you would never see

And it was a *disaster* - I hate both Kane and (especially) Auba for this reason

Kane did it again to me at the start of this season with 2-5 from BUR- CPL

And Auba did it to his unlucky owners all season again with

              6, 5, 2, 2, 8, 5, 2, 8, 2

              From

BUR, AVL, BOU, PAL, WOL, SOU, BHA, NEW, WHM

              A pair of trolls!

My problem with playing 5 at the back (or even 4) is that you always get decent basement priced players in defence, so it makes sense to get a couple of good bench options there. I'm not a fan at all of picking a $4.5m defensive midfielder in my midfield

Ah it’s extreme, no doubt and not something really advisable especially for newer players

It’s more something you try after you’ve done 12 or 13 seasons & are confident in trying something “different”

Last season for example I pretty much had to Wildcard out of it after 2 GW’s (even though it had done pretty well with double-double cleansheets from Everton) because of Allison & Laporte getting injured, and KDB & Lundstram’s emergence as well as Martial’s OOP etc

Not really, those basement-priced players are often flash-in-the-pan sorts, excepting one-off anomalies like Lundstram. The premiums are set-and-forget, allowing you to focus transfers further up the pitch. I'm looking at 2x4m not for rotation but for the bench, and if they don't play, it doesn't matter.

          You're right.
3 premium + 2 *4.5 probably makes sense. Even AWB can be a good option if he's 5.5 next season too

That was mainly due to Alisson being out for the 1st 8 GW's. Missed another two GW's as well.

Allison only 0.3 points per game behind Pope.

      Fit Alisson = clean sheets.

This was how my starting 11 looked like beginning of this season.

      4.5
      Premium premium premium
      Permium premium budget budget
      Premium midprice 4.5

I will be looking at doing the same again.

        My current thinking is:

        Pope if at Burnley, benchie
        3xLiv, 2xbenchies
        2x premium, 3xmid-price
        midprice, 2xbudget

I'm not tied to systems though - all comes down to price and value in the end for me.

        1. FOO FIGHTER
          1 day, 19 hours ago

I am going to be all about value to maximise my starting eleven. For instance if Firmino comes in at 1 to 1.5 less compared to this season then I may very well consider him. Midprice fwd at 150+ points is tasty when the likes of Jimenez at 9 to 9.5 next season.

I'm thinking about getting a strong defense & GK combo so that won't have to use FT on them. Bit like RAM if you remember 🙂

So that I can follow up with the lateriser theory of swapping out Big hitters for premium fixtures. Let's see.

Should have 5/6 player's locked IN the team in order to even think about it though.

GK Taa Robbo Doherty/Jonny 4.5 4.5 Jimmy/Ings Bruno to form the core of the team. Maybe it doesn't make sense but hopefully you got what I'm thinking about trying to do next season 😛

Newcastle depends on takeover - if it doesn't happen, they'll stick with Brucie until it does.
Palace just gave Roy an extension - if they start poorly then Eddie would be an option, yeh.
But he's not a parachute sort like some - he's a built-for-the-future type. Maybe Villa or WBA/playoff winner if they struggle early.

No, not for me. It would be tempting but at c12m, no. Take last night - he didn't do that much and a decent defence would have kept him out. I'd still prioritize Kev and Bruno over him.

Well I'm not kidding. I'm prioritizing Kev and Bruno. It's unlikely I could afford Auba on top of those 2. Which one will you miss out on - Kev who as you say, outscored him, or Bruno who in terms of points-per-match, also outscored him?
If i can reasonably squeeze him into a balanced-ish squad, I will, but it's unlikely the prices will allow that.

Yeah fair point I guess. Can't have everybody. Depends on what the prices are going to be. If Auba is 1m less than 1 or both of those other 2 he could be better value. I'm fairly confident he will be 0.5-1m cheaper than KDB

Always depends on prices sure, but all 3 will be premium. Now my intension is to rotate the captaincy between Kev and Bruno, so having Auba at that price and not captain him will be wasteful. If you captain him you'll be biting your lip every time Kev and Bruno haul and Auba doesn't. I think, as a rule of thumb, 2 captainable premium assets is right to enable good quality throughout the squad.

                      2 9 2 7 2 14 3 0

Unfortunately players are not going to haul every GW and irrespective of fixtùres Auba as a mid over KDB when Auba is nailed AF 24/7 365.

The point isn’t that premium players don’t blank... or that simply “holding them for a season” is enough for them to “reward” you as you put it

The point is that you need to be able to regularly *Captain* 12.0 players to get the most efficient use of budget

Hence - How would you have done captaining a Auba for his “Captainable” fixtures below?

BUR, AVL, BOU, PAL, WOL, SOU, BHA, NEW, WHM

                        6, 5, 2, 2, 8, 5, 2, 8, 2

There’s a bit of cherry picking there, but it’s required to illustrate just how notoriously dodgy & inconsistent this guy is when you rely on him - perma capping for a season is the only way to smooth that...

(KDB can blank with the best of them - that’s for sure. As can Salah, As can Sterling . As does everyone really)

‘Notoriously dodgy’? Have you looked at his record in ‘captainable’ fixtures in prior seasons?

You’ve also chosen to leave off his most recent 2 ‘captainable’ fixtures with 16 points in each (19 if he’s a mid!) which *drastically* increase his PPG (4.44 vs ~6.5)

KDB vs AVL, SOU, EVE, CRY, NEW

                        6,2,2,2,7

If you like, I can include some carefully selected away bankers too (where city were popular captain options and often ended up destroying the opposition)

                        bou, bha, wat

                        5, 3, 6

Wow - Point >>>>>>>>> Missed once again 🙂

                        Let’s take these 1 by 1

Firstly, I have already stated there was a bit of cherry picking in the Auba sample - and that it was deliberate, and didn’t put in the watford & Norwich scores because it’s not rocket science to see his hauls there 🙂

Secondly, Normally I would also include the obvious references to the fact that KDB is in fact human because again - it’s obvious isn’t it?

Thirdly - Yes I hAvE lOoKeD aT aUbA’s sCoReS iN pReViOuS sEaSoN’s - I’m speaking from experience here after he let me down during an even better run of fixtures over Christmas 18/19 - that’s why I sat back & observed him doing the same thing this season (rather than getting caught backing him with the armband)

Fourth - at no point have I said Auba doesn’t haul - he clearly does - but (This season) he’s generally hauled more unexpectedly and in Weeks where Man City & Liverpool has plum captaincy fixtures, so - again - difficult to get the best out of him on value

The point was that there’s a natural kneejerk/groundswell of opinion when Auba is classified as a midfielder that he’s an absolute no brainer

This is adding some balance to that kneejerk/groundswell - he could of course do well, and even though he’s positionally been even wider/more-POO under Arteta, his output isn’t suffering

Point missed once again eh? Guess here’s the point where friendly debate turns into patronising condescendence (although I’m not surprised, all of your posts have that air tbh, especially when you’re challenged).

Carry on cherry picking your stats - you picked 9 games, I picked 8, similar difficulty, similar ‘captainability’, similar sample size, same flawed conclusion.

He’s not a ‘no brainer‘, but neither is anyone else - your argument of ‘oMg lOoK aT tHeSe 9 cHeRrY pICkEd fIxtUrEs hE dIdNt hAuL iN iN tHiS pArTiCulAr sEaSoN’ can be applied to any player in any season, and that’s my point. Guess you missed that though, eh? 🙂

Nope this is two steps after the point where friendly debate turns into patronising condescence 🙂

(The point was actually where (a) Notoriously dodgy’? Have you looked at his record in ‘captainable’ fixtures in prior seasons? and (b) kDb iS iNcOnSiSteNt)

Just waiting for an analogy where Auba is hearts, Mané is Diamonds, KDB’s PPG is a gutshot flushdraw in historical seasons and Kane has gotten 3 penalties to Salah’s 10 missed big chances 😉

Nah actually it was before that, where you banded around words like ‘bizarre’, ‘ridiculous’ and ‘silly’ where it was obvious you just weren’t willing to engage through fear your thinking might be flawed.

Your analysis around Auba being inconsistent is garbage because the same cherry picking of easy fixtures can be applied to almost any player at all including this seasons top scorer/first name on your team sheet next season. It’s also clearly heavily influenced by your past experience as an owner which is preeeeeetty much a cardinal sin in terms of objective analysis 🙂

No analogies needed for that my friend 🙂

                        It’s ok - no offence taken 😉

And words like ‘bizarre’ and ‘ridiculous’ I’m afraid are going to have to be used when ‘bizarre’ and ‘ridiculous’ (sic ‘hypothetical’) analogies are trotted out as a response to a portion of a larger discussion taken out of context (A pattern that seems to be repeating with alarming intensity perhaps?) - But it’s all good buddy 🙂

And I’m actually glad that “cardinal sin” was committed in avoiding that Auba banana skin on so many occasions this season... I don’t feel at all guilty about it to be honest 🙂

Because I’d hate to think you’re comparing Auba’s output in games he started against 9 “easier” home bankers (Selected As an illustration of his captaincy inconsistency) to KDB’s output in games he didn’t even start (GW8), games against the top 4 (Liverpool, Man Utd & Chelsea are in your sample) as well as *relatively* tricky away games (Palace, Burnley)

I started this season with Sterling and Salah.

Sterling could also be a very good option should he come in cheaper but with UTD and City likely to start late, I would want to avoid both start of next season.

Plus Pep will be rotating his squad till kingdom come at the start having had little rest.

I would like an extra 10m on top of the 100m to fit in 3 premium mids thank you very much 😀

That is why I would love Auba as a mid in order for my 2 midfield premiums to be Salah and Auba. Cap rotation between those two is a tasty looking situation.

Yes we have and we found that Salah's points per game never dropped.

And at the end of the day, it is about picking who we feel is best to fit our squads otherwise we all would have won FPL by now.

Once you have a vague awareness of a players weaknesses (or perceived weaknesses) and devise some sort of plan to work around those perceived weaknesses, that’s really all you can do

E.g. For Auba - think twice when rotating the captaincy with him as shown above (very untrustworthy player in single gameweeks)

E.g. For Salah - think twice about captaining him when Mané plays, particularly away

E.g. for KDB - have a good VC for the 5 or 6 benchings

E.G. For Bruno - be aware hpthat he isn’t going to score 320 points a season (his current rate) and will probably regress at least 15-20% down to the 250/260’s

E.g. for a Sterling be prepared for him to underwhelm at home and excel away, and also disappear for a portion of the season if he gets disillusioned with life out on the touch line etc

That’s all you can do really 🙂

If FPL Towers shoogle about with changing player positions and it causes discussions like this, it means the end of dull template teams, which is all to the good.

Not sure how reliable this link is, but it's the only one I can find pertaining to schedule release dates:

    https://www.sportekz.com/football/premier-league-fixtures-2020-21/amp/

Can anyone improve on that? Because if they're leaving it until the end of August that gives FPL 12 days to tinker with the website, drum up interest and leave people enough time to tinker with their squad.

Well, we're all operating in constricted circumstances. Don't expect last year's normal. Can't see how else it would work. Last year they liked to drip-tease us on twitter with a couple of popular players' prices every day - that'll have to go.

They'll be priced between 11.5-12.5 if strikers. I wouldn't be looking at spending that much on any striker.

Never going to happen but 11

Say pool kept 15 CS and they scored 18 goals

That’s a 33 drop in points which would take them to auba jimenez territory

Pointless question as they won't be. They'll be not less than Aguero and Kane.
