Joshua Bull has been crowned the 2019/20 Fantasy Premier League champion, with former world number one Aleksandar Antonov stripped of his title.

Almost a year to the day since Gameweek 1 got underway and a fortnight after the season had ended, there was one final plot twist to a chaotic campaign on Tuesday afternoon.

FPL issued a brief statement to say that, after end-of-season checks, “the team formerly occupying the no. 1 position has been removed from FPL due to a breach of our terms”.

The article in which the announcement was made didn’t elaborate on what those breaches were but the erstwhile winner was notified of the decision via email, with his team removed from FPL.

Quite honestly, we don’t know the exact reasons either, so we won’t be adding to the speculation elsewhere.

Joshua moved up to first place as a result of these latest developments, with Chris McGowan – aka site user Queens of the South Age – promoted to runner-up.

Chris was also elevated to winner of our Fantasy Football Scout mini-league as a consequence.

Joshua, who had never previously finished inside the top one million, played his Wildcard in Gameweek 38+, having used his Free Hit chip a week earlier.

He had first entered the top 1,000 in Gameweek 17 and had reached the top ten shortly before lockdown, rising to seventh in Gameweek 29.

Hitting top spot in Gameweek 32+, he had dropped down to second heading into the final Gameweek and looked to have finished there before today’s statement was issued.

Nick Pope, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kevin De Bruyne never left his squad all season, while Mohamed Salah was only sold for one week.

So he was disqualified from winning this year for comments made previously. And FPL have said he can play next season - what if he wins again? Will he have to be disqualified again?

Not sure if this is your monthly serious comment, but if it is - I would guess it's fine, he's already been punished for it.

        It actually is 😀

And nothing to do with the content of his comments - which I haven’t seen. But more about how the process works. His disqualification this season has erased the comments in FPL’s view?

Probably analogous to how (in most cases at least) you can't be punished multiple times for the same crime.

That was my first thought too. What if he hadn't won this year and won next year and then it came out, would he still have been disqualified?

There we go. If you want to post racist messages, be very very private and discreet and don't be found out.

Or just don't post racist comments, if you do, then face the consequences

Ok this is bs policing nonsense. How can they ever enforce this. Every year's winner will now get their social media scrutinized.

Good strawman, it's pretty obvious to sane people that they're not on some vengeance to scour social media. Something was brought to their attention, and they acted accordingly, simple.

New FPL rule. Never link any social.media to your FPL if you have a slim chance of winning. Any comment made either racist, sexist, rightist will be used against you. Also don't ever post you follow daily mail because that wrong.

Bro you missing the point. When did FPL towers move to being righteousness police? Also if he did sue them he had a solid case. He is wrong don't get me wrong. But a private chat.is a private chat. They deleted his account based on it and violated his rights to play the game. I am no legal expert but they have zero ground to stand on.

Watched a documentary on Aussie Rules the other night.

Was an episode where player called out someone in crowd for racist abuse. Problem was she was a thirteen year old girl. Player said she should be helped not vilified as she was a victim of her background/education. He was of course the one that ended up vilified.

I don’t think anyone is questioning whether racism should be punished or not, that’s obvious it should.
I think how they have handled and penalised him is wrong, the season finished over 2 weeks ago - this scandal has nothing to do with the original winner’s performance.

They should ban him for a year.

The Premier League's stance on racism is very strong and clear. No Room for Racism. They back the Black Lives Matter movement.
Premierleague.com can't give VIP match day tickets to someone who has been exposed for racism.
I think it is a great decision to disqualify Antonov. A great statement of active anti-racism. I hope more huge businesses' follow this example.

If somebody has broken the rules they should be disqualified, as simple as that for me. It will be interesting what the reason is, however.

But that's the very problem - what rules? How is he to know a private chat is grounds for disqualification? The rules just say, to paraphrase, FPL Towers has the right to make up new rules that cover anything they just thought of and you have no grounds to appeal.

The last thing FPL want to see is two entry females having a b*tch fight cursing each other.

Now at least we know they will be disqualified 🙂

Has a private chat conformation been confirmed as the reason for his disqualification? If that's the case it does come across as strange grounds for disqualification.

Whether you're racist in private or in public, there is no justification for it. I don't understand why Alexander insists on repeatedly saying the word 'private'.

    Accept, apologise and educate yourself.

This. It's actually not that hard to come out of it looking reasonably good. Nobody's perfect, and being anti-racist doesn't mean you've never been racist in your life - but it does mean taking responsibility for what you've done and learning from it.

True. Eventually accepted private racism becomes accepted public racism when you get the chance to elect right-wing, openly racist politicians.

The video is quite revealing that he must have written something pretty bad; didn't even touch on or attempt to explain what he might have said. I also find it a bit odd that he can just continuing playing next year.

What shocked me was not that someone said something racist in a conversation that he thought was private (this happens thousands of times every day and to think it doesn't is naive) but that a person bright enough to win FOR using tactics, knowledge and more knowledge could be thick enough to leave a n electronic, provable paper trail. If your that dull you deserve your title to be stripped.

I think he said it in jest and frustration, with ignorance towards the severity of racism. He probably then forgot about the whole incident and then as it became apparent later down the line one of his so called jealous friends released it somehow to the big wigs when he realised he had a chance of winning it.

Would explain why his team has only just been deleted now.

Are FPL deleting teams where they receive evidence of unacceptable Social Media posts? Significant chunk of the 7.5m user-base is going to go caput if so...

It is a historic call by FPL for sure. I congratulate them for having balls to do whatever they did.
But I'm sure the guy who used FB messenger won't tweet THOSE messeges. So it's has to be a case of someone waiting till very last moment and then submitting it to PL.

What is a plausible ceiling for Wolves cs over next season? Thinking Doherty mostly here of course but also wondering about 5.5 Boly/Saiss

Major disparity between how they started and finished season - can that really be down to Boly? If so is he a VVD in waiting somewhere else. Don’t watch them that much and it seems a stretch that one CB makes that difference and if he does he’s special

Not just Boly - a lot of the slow start was to the EL. Look at those early results - so many 1-1s that could have been 1-0 with fresher legs and minds. Remember they hardly rotated their squad. So for me, the answer to your question depends heavily on whether they win the El and are in the CL, or don't win the EL and just have the PL to focus on. If the latter, their defensive assets could be gold.

    5. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
      • 16 Years

They had a mad looking run of only 1 CS in 16 Gameweeks (9-24)

Boly was injured from GW10-24 though so make of that what you will

When Billy Willy returned in GW24, they kept 9 CS's in his next 14 starts

They also kept 3 CS in his first 9

I'd say it's fair to expect 15+ CS's when Boly is fit for 38 games- that's pretty elite, 15-20 CS's is generally difficult for any team

I'm still haunted by both the Sheffield United & Burnley "clean sheets"...

Their sheets were clean until the last second in both games - would pad their numbers out even further in that late season run

Horrible team for an attack to play against

        Yep

Logically of course his presence and absence are potentially two separate issues. It could be that the stand in was the problem and that it was just a defective high class defence

Like in my country, you are not allowed to protect your family when an intruder climbs into your yard even when they have a firearm pointing it at your face. So he can shoot your whole family dead but you can do nothing at first.

Makes sense right. There is no justice for the innocent and that guy which killed your family will get bail and walk the streets the following day 😀
