The fixture list for the 2020/21 Premier League season was published this morning and Fantasy Premier League looks set to kick off with a Blank Gameweek 1.

Manchester City and Manchester United will both start the season a week later following their exploits in European club competition.

Their scheduled opponents on the opening weekend, Aston Villa and Burnley, will also begin their campaigns in Gameweek 2.

Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers were in Champions League and Europa League action earlier this month but, although they have been handed a bit of an extra breather, their first fixtures still fall within Gameweek 1 and will take place on Monday 14 September.

Liverpool and Arsenal take on newly-promoted Leeds United and Fulham in two of the most eye-catching fixtures in the first round of 2020/21 matches, with Chelsea away at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Early-season interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m) may well be short-lived, with the Gunners facing Fulham and West Ham United before meeting four of last season’s top five and Sheffield United between Gameweeks 3-7.

Liverpool also have a mixed start, with the visit of Marcelo Bielsa’s side followed by clashes with Chelsea and Arsenal.

Manchester City get their season underway in Gameweek 2 with a trip to Wolves, with visits of Leicester City and Arsenal to follow in Gameweeks 3 and 5.

Their cross-city rivals meanwhile follow up their Blank Gameweek 1 with a more appealing fixture against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, with matches against Brighton and Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United coming next.

Spurs have a decent start: they have six meetings against sides that finished 10th or below in their opening seven fixtures, with Championship runners-up West Bromwich Albion then up in Gameweek 8.

Wolves’ run of matches from Gameweeks 3-7 also stand out, while Chelsea will be quietly pleased with their initial schedule aside from a Gameweek 2 clash with Liverpool: the Blues take on Brighton, West Brom, Crystal Palace and Southampton in the opening five Gameweeks.

West Ham United may well be the team to avoid in the opening two months. After a favourable opening-weekend clash with Newcastle United, the Hammers then face six of last season’s top eight in quick succession.

We’ll be back later today with a more detailed inspection of the best and worst fixture schedules.

Our Season Ticker has been updated in the meantime, with Fantasy Football Scout subscribers able to sort by difficulty, attacking and defensive potential and rotation pairings.

Happy with my strategy and team structure, 4-4-2

    McCarthy - 4.0
    TAA - Robbo - 4.5 - 4.5 - 4.0
    Auba - Salah - Son - Armstrong - 4.5
    Kane - Mitrovic - 4.5

Kane, Son and Auba (total 31.5) --> can become KdB, Bruno and Martial (total 31) when available - with 0.5 itb for wiggle room

I see Robbo being a great pick this season. Sitting at only 10% ownership for a player with his return potential is crazy. With everyone owning TAA, Robbo is a great way to climb

Last two seasons total points would suggest not imo (outscored VVD by 3 and 5 points). Added with the fact I think Robbo will see less minutes this year (like 300 maybe) due to the new signing, I don't see how he's worth it.

I guess he's more consistent and it's easier to predict when he might get attacking returns, but Liverpool defenders are set and forget for me anyways.

One of my rare RMTs. Very satisfied with it for now. WC gw2 is the plan. Triple Liverpool and Arsenal. Both the new boys in Chelsea.

    McCarthy 4.0

Salah Auba (C) Willian Ziyech Soucek

Word of warning for those going for Dier. From the Project Restart matches, he played only 5 of the 9 matches, and only 1 of the last 3. Sanchez + Alderweireld looks like the first choice partnership, so I'd look elsewhere.

        TAA/Doherty/Vinagre/4.0/4.0
        Salah/Mane/Auba/ASM/Soucek
        Jimi/Mitro/4.5

Very risky, but gives me 11 players GW1. Mane/Salah and Auba can easily become any Man City or United players, freeing up at least 2.0 if I go KDB and bruno to upgrade elsewhere and jump on an emerging bandwagon.

Fixtures not that appealing for the Bottom half teams (AVL, BHA, CPL, FUL, LEE, NEW, SHU, SOU, WBA, WHM).

Fulham have probably the best of the fixtures, so Mitrovic is an option. But looks like a case of focusing on Wolves, Spurs, Chelsea, Liverpool and then bringing in Man City and Man Utd players from GW2 / GW3 onwards.

Not sure you can trust Everton and Leicester with their recent form and injury situations.

If you can stretch to it, then Leno / Martinez looks the best combo to me. Arsenal will keep around 12/13 CS I reckon and because of Arteta's 'park the bus' attitude against better teams they will also get save points.

Otherwise it is McCarthy / Gunn or Ryan / Button.

Haven't looked into them in huge detail yet but here are my first thoughts after seeing the fixtures.

    - McCarthy seems the best 4.5 keeper option, I expect him to be the template GK pick.

    - I don't think there are obviously outstanding fixtures either way. Wolves, Spurs and Chelsea have probably the best mid-long term fixtures. Leicester decent too. Mixed bag for City, Pool, Arsenal, Utd (factoring in blanks for Manchester clubs also.)

    - Will the GW1 blank have an impact on prices? I predict literally millions of transfers in for Manchester players for GW2, especially when there are so many active managers at the start of the season. I'm not sure if there has ever been a GW1 blank before and not familiar with the process of freezing prices, etc. Could we see a situation where KdB is 11.7 or 11.8 by the time GW2 kicks off?

    - It will be interesting to see different tactics also - will people bench the likes of Bruno, KdB for GW1 or will they plan transfers or even hits to get them in GW2-3?

    - Soucek looked a strong contender for a place in many teams, but West Ham have probably the worst run of early fixtures.

    - Liverpool's so-so initial fixtures might take the shine off the defensive double up early doors. But GW4-7 look good for CS potential for those who are patient.

What are your initial thoughts? Any patterns that you notice emerging?

Mitrovic is an option for sure, can see him finding a spot into a few teams.

I agree about Leicester and Everton in that they are a bit of a wait and see. Both can be hit or miss.

I think when looking at fixtures, it is important to look at them in the context of the position. For example, when looking for a GK it is important to look 8-10 fixtures in advance. Similarly defenders need a relatively long-term view. Most transfers go on attacking form players for which fixtures aren't as important anyway.

Agree pool defence is a no from me double Salah and Mane looks the way forward. All against attacking sides.
Disagree on Soucek can be benched rotated.
My tactic is likely wc gw3 but will see.

McCarthy always no1 choice keeper imo.

    RMT please:

    McCarthy-4.0
    TAA-Saliba*-Vinagre-(Ferguson-Brantwaite)
    Auba-Salah-Son**-Bowen**-Ritchie*
    Werner-Mitro-(4.5)

*In my team if there is any indication that they will start.
**Placeholder for Greenwood and Fernandes when the time comes for that.

Made a few tweaks, more I think of it I don't trust Spurs should be priced around same as Leicester!

    McCarthy [steer]
    Saliba-Justin-Taylor (Braithwaithe-Ferguson)
    Mane-Salah-Aubameyang-Soucek-Maddison
    Adams-Werner - (Mitrovic)

I know Justin-Saliba are gambles. But think defence is place to take risks this year.

Starting with Soyuncu worked wonders for me last season

Oh yeah he was great value as well as in form. Horrible to type though.

Seeing Son in a lot of teams but isn't it worth it to find the extra 1.5m for Kane? I seem to remember a lot of Son's points under Mourinho coming when Kane was injured and he was playing upfront. When Kane returned he was very wide.

He's a good placeholder around that kind of Rashford/Bruno price point.

I'm starting with both, intended as placeholders for Manc assets.

I remember owning Kane and watching him play as a midfielder very annoying for 10.5. Basically pray for pens most of time. Son/Alli better value.

Quick draft of a bench boost team for GW1, it will be followed by an early WC most likely unless it’s ok and can be adjusted with transfers.

    Martinez - McCarthy
    Taa - VVD - Doherty - Vinagre - Saliba
    (S)alah - Saka - ASM - Armstrong- Soucek
    Werner - Vardy - Ings

If Martinez and Saliba don’t look like starting I will have to rethink that.

Arsenal could concede either. Will be curious to see how you get on with BB. Bookmarked!

Have you considered a GW1 team without BB followed by a GW2 WC?

Maddison or Barnes? Both seem like good differentials but hard to separate them.

Kane vs Werner is a big one for me. I’m on Kane at the moment, but Werner is so enticing...

i dont fancy a new player, and liverpool 2nd fixture.
wait and see for me, especially when you have the likes of Kane/Vardy/Ings for wk1, and also Jimmy/Aguero/Martial thereafter who have proven credentials
