The arrival of Nathan Aké (£5.5m) at Manchester City could improve the club’s defensive prospects in 2020/21.

Pep Guardiola’s men were missing consistency and strength in depth at centre-back last season but Aké can be stabling influence this time around.

We have assessed the former Bournemouth defender’s credentials ahead of the new campaign, what impact he will have on the City defence and whether or not that can make him a viable Fantasy Premier League asset.

As we have used Opta data, only those with a valid Fantasy Football Scout subscription can access this article in full.

What defensive contributions did Aké make last season?

I’m a little bit disappointed in Messi, years of mega success and the first real challenge comes round to the team as the trophies dry up and he abandons ship.
Would have thought this is the time he should be loyal and show his importance to drive the team forward and improve.

Of course he isn’t getting younger and maybe he does desire a challenge elsewhere, but it does feel like all of a sudden he’s leaving as the sh** has hit the fan.

It's a two-way street. Messi has given everything to Barcelona past few years and they gave him little in return. He's a competitive player that wants to win trophies, if Barcelona won't do that for him, why not leave?

      1. Amey
        6 years, 1 month ago

        They gave him nothing ?????????

I'd lose respect for him if he leaves them in these circumstances !

It's not like every other player. He's an academy product.

        1. Amey
          6 years, 1 month ago

          So did they??
He's being paid handsomely over the years. Renewing contract every season.

Won so many trophies. Don't even think they won everything because of him. It was THAT BLOODY AWESOME TEAM !!

iniesta, xavi, bousquets, Puyol, Neymar, Racist C.nt etc

          1. Flaming Flamingo
            6 years, 1 month ago

No one wins anything on their own. This season at Barcelona proves that. He's still easily the best player in the world and if he did leave and succeed, I'm sure there would still be people searching for a reason to discredit him.

            1. Amey
              6 years, 1 month ago

I'm not discrediting him mate. I hate this though 😕

                1. Amey
                  6 years, 1 month ago

They got him when he was young. Helped him settle & paid for his medical condition.

He's a proud member of La Masia !

All his life he is playing for them. So it'd be awkward to see him elsewhere.

They paid him handsomely over the years. Literally renewal if contract's every season. Even CR7/Zlatan didn't get that much despite roaming around that much.

Winning everything. And now leaving when they need him to stay. I'd much rather see him go fighting down than go & find a "challenge" elsewhere.

I'm too emotional maybe but that's my point of view mate 🙂

                  1. Flaming Flamingo
                    6 years, 1 month ago

It's a different club then the one joined, both on and off the pitch. Everything Barcelona stood for as for as a football club is being disintegrated.

He has probably done more for a single football club than anyone, I don't think he owes them anything personally. Honestly, he's been carrying this team for years now and is still made the scapegoat when things go wrong. I completely understand why he'd feel the need to change and if he does leave, he'll do so with a heavy heart that's for sure. That's how I see it anyway.

Yes. Barca did their part but if you check the number of years Messi has spent at Barca, you can’t really fault him for wanting to leave now. He won everything with Barca already

There is a time in football when players seek a new challenge/experience & now is the time for Messi.

Don’t forget he was at Barca before Ronaldo joined Madrid in 2009... I love Ronaldo for this reason. It is always good for players to challenge themselves in a different league. You make it sound like he is married to Barca which isn’t the case!

That's what I hate about modern football. The elite level teams' sense of entitlement to trophies. It kills the game because it's the same group of Big Brand Name clubs monopolising all the trophies. Juve have won 9 titles in a row. Bayern 8 with their second CL win in 7 years. Real winning three CL's in a row. It's bullshït.

20 minutes into Saliba's first game in an Arsenal shirt and Messi says he wants to leave Barcelona.. idk man, seems strange

      How was he?

Looking forward to seeing him on Saturday.

Was out when the game was on but heard he was very calm under pressure and on the ball... he’s a giant. Hopefully now him and Magalhaes will solidify our defence after all these years.

Enough of the Messi soap opera, lets talk about Rhian Brewster possibly starting matches for LFC this coming season. Greenwood no longer will be flavour of the week.

Brewster going big, what a talent we have right there!

They will get mugged off, Doucoure is decent but they will pay 40mil+ which is ridiculous

There is talk of 25 + 5 mil add ons.

They need legs in midfield, Doucoure would be a great signign.

Really sad to see Messi leaving Barça, if this is indeed the end... sad stuff.

If he’s gotta go anywhere, think he should go to PSG. City don’t need him in the slightest and while it could be fun to see him in the Prem, would wreck things in terms of FPL a bit.

Ideally would like to see him stay at Barça, but PSG/Inter could be decent options if leaving is justifiable

Every team needs him, including City if they want to win CL.

So Messi shouldn't join PL because you won't have fun in FPL?
