It has been the most remarkable start to a Fantasy Premier League season in recent memory and arguably the hardest to predict accurately. So what now for FPL managers?

There has been a bucket-load of goals, an abundance of penalties, and yet so many of us are struggling to gain real traction in the Fantasy rankings.

As each team has come into the campaign with different preparations, and some even starting on a Blank Gameweek has hampered transfer progress for Fantasy managers and robbed us of easy access to consistent trends.

But the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area holds the key for isolating these from the perspective of underlying statistics.

Delving deeper into the data yields greater clarity on the reliable trends for our FPL sides going forward as we try to pinpoint our transfers and potential wildcard plans for Gameweek 5 and beyond…

As most of the article is stuck behind a members pay wall here is a great video that spells it all out for free:

Kun will be back on them imo, Kdb 2nd choice. I just can’t imagine a scenario whereby Kun allows Kdb to take them. As a natural goalscorer I bet he will & he has been at City before Kdb dreamt of playing in the PL...

How about an outlandish scenario where Kun isn't the manager and the actual manager decides it's best to let the guy who has solved a major headache from last season keep on taking them? There's enough problems at City at the moment without bringing back new ones.

Agueros last penalty was against Leicester Feb 22, 2020 and he missed. After that De Bruyne has scored all 5 he took BUT Aguero was not on the pitch during any of those.

      1. Party time
        5 years, 9 months ago

        Fair enough.

It will be interesting to see what happens on the pitch but I doubt if Kun will back off & just watch Kdb grab the ball to take it. Strikers want goals while playmakers prefer to assist. Let’s see what happens on the pitch

      2. @persecuted_by_mods
        5 years, 9 months ago

I'm sure there was an instance where aguero was off penalties and somebody else took, it may not have been kev as it seems to have come to him last but I'm 99% sure when Kun was off them somebody else took over him. That suggests he won't get them back over someone that hasn't missed

Just took a look at Man City penalty statistics. June 22 2020, Man City - Burnley. Aguero got fouled for penalty, went off injured straight away, Jesus came on for him and Mahrez took the pen. KDB wasn't on the pitch.

          1. @persecuted_by_mods
            5 years, 9 months ago

Cheers. So nobody has taken one while aguero has been on the pitch? My memory is hazy but something in my brain tells me that happened once

    Current team, got 2 FTs:

    Ryan / Martinez
    Robertson / James / Justin / Mitchell / Dunne
    KDB / Son / Rodriguez / Zaha / Anguissa
    Kane / Jimenez / DCL

    2 FTs, 0.3 ITB.

Was thinking about KDB -> Salah and Jimenez -> Wilson to make the money for it (would be 0.3 short otherwise)... Thoughts?

    Team now:
    McCarthy Button

    KDB Sterling Bruno Soucek
    Jimmy DCL Adams

    Potential WC team:
    McCarthy Button
    Robbo CTaylor Ayling Lewis Mitchell
    KDB Salah Son Soucek Bissouma
    Kane DCL Antonio

    Or
Sterling and Bruno to Salah and Son for -4?

I love statistics and have an unfortunate habit of jumping to conclusions too soon, but even I must admit a big statistics dive to inform team selections after 4 weeks is a little premature.

We can see some general trends, but analyzing individual player performance at this stage will be extremely skewed by 1 or 2 hot performances.

After the Everton game, Kane was super unappealing as an option. He was too deep, didn't take shots etc. But after the super free scoring Southampton and United games, all of a sudden he's a world beater on the statistics front.

Couldn't agree more. And on the Kane example, the Southampton game was a weird one with the defensive tactics and much of United was against 10 men.

Not that the eye test doesn't have issues early on as well of course, but looking at 'last 4 Gameweeks' or any range like that, through the season even, gets so skewed by fixtures that the data often doesn't tell us what people think it does

TAA + Robbo combo was looking so great after Arsenal game and then next GW Villa thrashing.

Kane and Son are on fire. Irritates me their returns are shrugged off as horrific defending, the quality of Kane's passing was KDB like, no one would have dismissed KDB's stats if City had done that to Saints

I don't disagree by the way. I think both are outstanding options. Spurs' busy schedule might actually have helped them find their form rather than hinder them physically.

If I was on WC, I'd build my team around Salah, DCL, Kane and Son.

        Nobody knows the exact number.

For me, the analysis must be at least 6 games - one against a challenging side, one against a top 8 side, one against a bottom half side, one against a relegation fodder team, and then two more games for general form. I think maybe GW7 we can start to definitively see individual player trends within the statistics.

        WC

I really like Lamptey, not sure about his injury though - could just be so he's rested over internationals for U21 squad
Dallas plays as a winger I think?
        Saiss seems popular...

Dallas is a bit of a utility man but looks dangerous up the field - not sure if he is a better option than Ayling.

Lamptey looks great and has some nice fixtures from GW6

Saiss is one that could be under threat from the new signings or even Dendocker pushing back. Coady is safer but has zero attacking threat.

Would go Lamptey and Saiss for now.

    Thoughts on this WC Team.

    Martinez
    Robbo Semedo Dallas Mitchell Ferguson
    Salah Son Pulisic Barkley 4.4
    Kane Werner Maupay

Giving Werner a last chance on WC as i feel he will play in his preferred position with Pulisic and Ziyech back. If he looks bad he is an easy switch to Rich/Jimenez.

    Thoughts??

        Balbuena Stephens Ferguson

Ferguson is first choice when Back.
        Stephens regular 2 pointer
        Balbuena is somewhat nailed.

How do you know Ferguson is 1st choice? You're basing that purely on Palace fans not rating Joel Ward aren't you. And besides he could be out for months yet we just don't know

overweight in For - means you are compromised in mid and def and means you will need hit's to buy into the next must have's.
I admire your dogged faith in Werner but would suggest either him or Kane not both.

Why the F would Kun be on pens again? Absolutely clueless opinion... City had a massive problem with penalties last season which included Kun being shite at them. The problem was solved when KDB took over the penalties and it's been a non issue for City since. Pep even stated outright that KDB is their penalty taker. But now for some reason Kun is supposedly taking the penalties back? Some of the stuff you see written on here is a joke

So you've never seen someone take a pen that you thought wouldn't be on them? Kevin Miralles springs to mind

      19/20 in chronological order:
      Jesus misses vs Atalanta.
Sterlings pen saved by Patricio, retaken, goal.
Jesus misses again vs Sheffield Utd.
      Gundogan misses against Spurs.
      Aguero misses against Leicester.

At this point Pep is probably fuming.

Then KDB scores 5 and Mahrez 1 inbetween.

Makes u wonder why kdb wasn't on them from the start. Clearly their best shooter of the ball

    5. Pukki Blinders

Settle down mate. Aguero has always been the preferred taker over KDB, why do you sound so certain that KDB keeps them when Aguero’s hunger for goals far exceeds KDB’s. Aguero missing one penalty doesn’t change anything

      1. Zimo
        • 7 Years
        5 years, 9 months ago

Because it's not up to Aguero. It's up to Pep.

              5 years, 9 months ago

Its part of the reason he has had them for his whole career. Nobody has taken a pen over Aguero at City while he’s been on the pitch as far as i know. To dismiss Aguero getting them back is delusional

Yes they have, and it shouldn’t be dismissed but it’s more likely than not KDB keeps them.

          2. Zimo
            • 7 Years
            5 years, 9 months ago

Also if you want to say its up to the players on the pitch then KDB is the captain so it really is his decision.

              • 6 Years
              5 years, 9 months ago

In that case I think KDB would happily let Aguero take them, he knows Aguero loves his goals...

      2. @persecuted_by_mods
        5 years, 9 months ago

Yeah he always was, until he wasn't. Hunger for goals won't override KDB having a better scoring ratio on them

Nothing is 100% obviously but the likelihood is KDB retains them

Can't see any real justification for aguero taking them back other than saying "you never know"

        1. Pukki Blinders
          • 6 Years
          5 years, 9 months ago

Why did it take Aguero being injured for KDB to take his first pen then? “You never know” is always the justification for Pep, but Aguero has always been the preferred taker at City for a reason, that’s the way I look at it

          1. Goonsquad245
            • 10 Years
            5 years, 9 months ago

Others have taken penalties last season with aguero on the pitch. Gundogan springs to mind (he missed).

KDB hasn’t missed a pen since he started taking them - I think he takes all the ones that matter, with Aguero and others potentially picking up the ones that don’t.

      3. Rhinos
        • 12 Years

This. And I can't see Pep being that bothered as to lay down the law that KDB takes them. He's not gonna lose a second of sleep over whether one of the greatest strikers in the premier league's history is on pens or not
