Fantasy Premier League managers will already have one eye on the end of Gameweek 13 when Bruno Fernandes (£11.0m) visits Sheffield United.

Manchester United are not in action until Thursday evening when their midfield maestro shoulders the responsibility of 1.2 million captain armbands.

No asset comes into Gameweek 13 backed by that many, although among the top 10,000 managers, he plays a secondary, yet not insignificant, role.

As you can see, Fernandes was seen as the best alternative to Kevin De Bruyne (£11.9m) for the Gameweek 13 captaincy, backed by 28.1% at this level.

The strength of the Portuguese international’s following makes for a gap of just 4.2 percentage points compared to Manchester City’s number 17, who was chosen as skipper by 32.3% of the top 10k – and blanked in a favourable home matching against West Bromwich Albion.

Meanwhile, at least 20% of the top 10k are expecting goals at Anfield on Sunday, despite predictions of Jose Mourinho spoiling the occasion with his big-game conservative approach.

That’s because 11.0% of these managers have captained Harry Kane (£10.9m), FPL’s highest-scoring asset with just one blank since Gameweek 2.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah (£12.3m) has blanked just once at Anfield this season, convincing 9.1% of the top 10k to captain the Egyptian for Gameweek 13.

Jamie Vardy (£10.3m) completes the top-five continuing as a niche captain at this level with 5.4% backing for the armband ahead of facing Everton.

Incredibly, De Bruyne is still something of a differential among the top 10k.

Despite coming into Gameweek 13 as the most popular captain in this rank bracket, three more players can boast higher effective ownership.

As already alluded to, Fernandes is the most significant of these, sitting in 61.1% of top 10k squads and his captaincy backing taking him to effective ownership of 89.2%

Kane (81.2%) and Son Heung-min (78.5%) remain powerful effective ownership weapons, each one at least six percentage points better off than De Bruyne in this department.

This season best-performing Fantasy managers are slowly losing patience with the Chelsea defence.

Ben Chilwell (£6.2m) came into Gameweek 12 as the top 10k’s most-fashionable defender – sat in 56% of their squads at the last deadline.

However, James Justin (£4.9m) has overtaken him for Gameweek 13, edging past by 0.01 percentage points, although Chilwell has still suffered a decrease of 5.6 percentage points of his own.

Kurt Zouma (£5.7m) and Reece James (£5.3m) also suffered mild decreases in popularity at this level, owned by 30.1% and 24.3% respectively for Gameweek 12 and just 29.7% and 23.5% after Tuesday afternoon’s deadline.

For the second Gameweek in a row, the midfield is the area of biggest fluctuation, although the top-four players in this position have held onto their places in the template.

Diogo Jota‘s (£6.9m) injury sees him drop out of the top five while De Bruyne finally creeps in with 39.6% ownership.

Assessing how the top 10k made room for him in their squads is difficult considering that Salah’s ownership has stayed the same between Gameweeks 12 and 13, Son dipped from 79.9% to 77.3%, while Fernandes and Jack Grealish (£7.8m) have all increased their popularity at this level.

There has not been any sign of sacrificing funds up-front to facilitate changes in midfield either.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.9m) suffered only a minor ownership decrease (from 72.2% to 71.1%), Kane’s has remained virtually stable and Patrick Bamford (£6.3m) became more popular, rising from 54.4% top 10k ownership to 57.6%.

Wildcards continue to fall slowly among the top 10k as another 1.2% of them pulled the trigger on a new squad for Gameweek 13.

Unsurprisingly, interest in the Triple Captain and Free Hit chips was low indeed, although there was a smattering of Bench Boost deployments.

In fact, roughly as many made use of the enhanced bench as did Wildcards this time out – an interesting decision considering recent announcements about Double Gameweek 19.

Continuing the trend of top 10k managers finally taking notice of De Bruyne, we can see that he is the most popular midfielder on Wildcarders at this level for Gameweek 13.

Only Kane was chosen more often by such managers for the midweek deadline, the general theme of these Wildcard selections clearly involving templating-up among the forwards and securing the key premium midfielders plus Grealish.

Anyone else looking forward to just drawing a line under 2020 (FPL included) and moving on to hopefully better times?

I feel like this year has really put into perspective how things like FPL are just a pass time/game and should be treated as such, especially when so much else is going on IRL.

Wish everyone the best, don't worry about KDB blank, don't worry about your rank, lets focus on making 2021 as good as we can, lets try and see the light at the end of the tunnel ladies n gents 🙂

Most definitely. FPL is a hobby and doesn't get to me like it does others. But as a whole yes 2020 has been a disaster for me personally. Just one of those years, one thing after another.

        Likewise.

I recommend anyone who is potentially giving themselves more stress via FPL, after what has been an unbelievably stressful year for may reasons, to let themselves have a break over Xmas and concentrate on things they can control!

        GL mate 🙂

      Well said.
Even if I were to win the whole thing, all the people that matter to me wouldn’t care whatsoever or indeed blame me for bringing it up looking for recognition haha

2020 has been the worst year of my life by far. Relationships have suffered, breakups, isolation was crippling during the first lockdown, put on weight and generally let myself go. Improving a lot now and lost the weight but damn this year has been rough.

Ironically 2020/21 FPL season has been my best ever FPL season to date. Funny how that works.

Was planning on doing Vardy -> Bamford before Leicester's fixtures significantly worsened following this week.

Does it make more sense to do DCL -> Bamford now and stack Vardy till the DGW19? Cheers!

I'm personally going Vardy --> Kane this week to catch Kane against his favourite team. I'd do DCL to Bamford though out of DCL or Vardy, yeah.

      (playing 3-5-2)

      1) DCL and Walker -> Kane and max 4.9 def
      2) Grealish and Walker -> Son and max 5.9 def

      Current def:

      Chilwell/Zouma/Walker (Dallas, Mitchell)

I think gw 18 & 19 are a bit overhyped here. It is actually possible to ride gw 18 with 7-9 players & some single gw players could outscore dgw players in 19.

Well, it depends on your team but I am thinking of riding both gw’s & keeping them chips for later although I am already down to just 2 chips also part of my reason for this

    1. Flair

IMO If you play it right you can get through BGW18 and DGW19 with a significant rank rise and not need to use a chip.

      1. Party time
        5 years, 8 months ago

Yes, that’s true. This is what I am looking at & even if things don’t go as planned. The chips would still be in the pocket for other gws

I'm struggling to see it that way. There aren't many players that I want long term who play week 18 apart from Son and DCL so I'm going to focus transfers on week 19 and play my FH in 18.

All I'd say is : Don't let DGW19 dictate who you want from 14-18.
It's okay to lose 10 points in DGW19 by earning 20-25 points in the next 5 gameweeks.

Yep- this is true. KDB is presently surrounded by a lesser team. You better factor waste into his attractiveness for C

I feel MCI is about 2 goals inferior every game compared to two/three years ago.

Plus Johnstone was Gigi Buffon yesterday

    2. Party time
      5 years, 8 months ago

It was not a bad choice to captain him imo. You were unlucky. He played very well last night looking at those numbers, on another day it could have been a monster haul. Cheer up buddy, still a lot of gws to go

I was the opposite.mine never moved off KDB and never thought about moving it.
I agree with you though. Nothing is definite and we have to expect the best captain choice to do poorly from time to time.
There was nothing wrong with your captain choice.

The fact he got 2 bonus points without an assist or a goal shows it was bad luck (I am not biased as I have not captained him) just like Dias’ OG.

2 baps without a return shows how good he was. If only Sterling and Gundogan could finish.

Captained Bruno over Kdb the week before last week and that didn't turn out well. When you have that many premium options, there is a chance of someone blanking at some point. This stage of the season is always tricky with the short turnaround and some unexpected results.

He did not blank but those could have been twice the point totals with fewer Donkeys surrounding him

Already have son, kane, kdb, grealish, dcl and bellerin so im going to try fielding 11 in gw 18 and FH GW 19. Probably end up with
    Martinez
    Dier Lewis Dias Bellerin (3.8)
    Son Kdb Grealish Neto (Bruno)
    Kane Dcl (Brewster)

With Bruno on the bench GW 20 onwards doesn't look too compromised either. Now to sit back and watch Christmas and covid decimate my team and plans 🙂

Next 2 transfers are Bowen and Ayling to Neto and Dier over the next 2 gws. Will start with that and then hope I can do chilwell to Dias, Mcarthy to Martinez and Dallas to Lewis over the 3 gws after. After more than a decade with fpl I already know this will fail lol. Have to plan and hope the chips fall in your favor though

If I say KDB has 3% more owners than Bruno, it means KDB has 103% of Bruno's ownership, regardless of what Bruno's ownership is

If I say KDB is 3 percentage points higher, it means KDB has 43% ownership if Bruno has 40% ownership

"Percentage points" is the proper way to indicate that they belong to the same set

The doubles the following week don't look great either. Of the big 6 only Pool, United and Chelsea play twice, and the first two of them play each other and Chrlsea have a tricky fixture away to Leicester.

                Vardy have SOUTH/CHEL
                Bamf has BRI/SOUTH
Bruno also has ful in 19 as part of his DGW

I've currently only got 4 for GW18, so am thinking FH then and use upcoming FTs to build for DGW19.

who would you want on a FH in 18 anyway? Surely not Arsenal? Newc/Shu are hit an miss.

BB is very hit and miss I reckon. Could even get away with pts in a SGW
            I prefer having 11 DGW's I reckon in 19

3 Spurs currently only have Son, 3 City only have KDB, and 5 budget option should take up my full budget.

    Triple win for me yesterday:
    - brought Stones in instead of Dias (Dallas coming on for me)
    - sold Mahrez for Bruno (C)
    - I have no KDB with plenty of my ML rivals captained him so 4 points is a victory for me

How are your teams shaping up for blank GW18 ?

    Sheffield United v Newcastle United
    Wolverhampton Wanderers v Everton
Manchester City v Brighton & Hove Albion
    Aston Villa v Tottenham Hotspur
    Arsenal v Crystal Palace

I currently only have four players with a fixture (Lamptey. KDB, Son, DCL), that must be well below average considering half the PL teams are playing that GW.

Will bring in Kane and Dier with 2 FTs, this GW.
Kane, Dier, Lamptey(might switch to Bellerin), Watkins, Martinez, Bissouma(if that counts) and KdB.

Not sure I need more than 7 in 5 games.

Exactly, what about those BGW fixtures is so appealing when most teams have the key players anyways? I'm sure there will be better opportunities going forward for a FH, DGW19 the closest.

Kdb all day. I sold Vardy last week based on him returning in the 85th and 90th mins the weeks before and looking starved of service. That said the sudden return to form and fitness of Maddison has changed the landscape his way a bit

I rather not be chasing points later in year when next BGW/DGW is , you never know it will be another one will happen and if be better than this one. Also then I play my TC when utd or city play twice

That's fair. Everyone will have their own strategy. I personally wouldn't play a BB if I have Ferguson and Bissouma on it and I wouldn't play a FH for a BGW with only 5 fixtures.

That leaves the FH for DGW 19. That one kin of makes sense.

IMO team in GW 34 and 37 we'll know which teams are fighting for survival and Europe, so we can eliminate the other teams and maximize points potential.

Well next sgw normally happen at quarter final f a cup stage. Where u could get 3 matches or 7 matches in the GW. Too much uncertainty. And when DGW don’t happen , this goes into meltdown.

the blank is ok, just need to get by with 6-7 players.
the double is pretty big - 5 extra games is a lot i think for a dgw - not sure if we will see one that big later on

  27. FPL Daniel

What about this team for GW 18

    Martinez
    Lamptey Justin Dias Dier
    KDB Grealish Son ASM/Neto/Podence
    Kane DCL

If I feel puny I might sell Bruno for Sterling as well.

    Thoughts?

  28. Karan_G14

Don't want to get rid of Salah, KDB, Bruno, DCL & Bamford because of these blanks & doubles.

I'm just thinking of keeping these 5 and play around with other spots for the DGW.

FH18 for Triple Spurs, Triple City, Grealish, Zaha, DCL, Podence/Neto & one more defender.
